We took the kids to Crooked Lake Lodge when they were 5,7&9. It was there first fishing trip. Trey 9, Mackenzie 7, and Josh 5. Everyone had an opportunity to drive the boat but my youngest was so excited he couldn’t stop smiling if he tried.
As for fishing, well we arrived in the early evening, got the rental boat all set and went over to a little bay. Mackenzie hooked into a fairly big smallmouth and screamed way more than once. Gave me the rod but I gave it back to her and coached her into landing it. She cried when we got it in the boat and cried again when we released it. She could hardly wait for me to put a worm on her hook so she could fish again.
The next morning the 2 boys and I went out. As I had fished Crooked Lake before I took the boys up the lake to a good spot for largemouth bass. Got skunked. So we moved and Josh got into his first fish. Big sunfish. He caught one and was beaming. He wanted to take the fish off the hook. got stabbed, cried and gave me the fish. We returned it to the water. Josh stopped crying and I baited his hook and he was right back at it.
Trey was the last to catch fish but when it started it just didn’t seem to stop. One out, back in, another one out. Small mouth bass seemed to love him. I had to remove every fish he caught. No touch Trey.
We all fish now Trey 27, Mackenzie 24, Josh 22. Josh has a 14 ft tin tippy, I won a 2.5 Merc in April last year. Josh can’t get enough now. Every Saturday and Sunday early- family fishing.
