I remember when I was about the same age as my grandson my Dad took me at swan lake in northern BC just SE of Dawson Creek which is where I took this picture of my Grandson Callum . As we did not have a boat my Dad rented a rowboat and rowed to the middle of lake . He stopped and fixed my fishing rod with a hook he said would catch any fish anywhere. He then cast his line out and I cast mine . About thirty seconds or so I felt a huge jerk on my line . I hollered at Dad and he laughed and said ok son bring in that monster you caught . It was all I could do to hang onto the rod let alone reel it in . My Dad was laughing so hard I think he was crying . Well I did finally reel it in and it was the biggest pike I’ve ever seen. It must have been Six pounds or more . My Dad was stunned as he thought it would be only about one or two pounds . Well to make a long story short I did catch two more Walleye and Dad caught nothing . We laughed about this day many times over the years .I wish he was still here. He’d laugh all over .
