in canada
0:31
top of the evening to you cover the humanitarian air sunshine how are you
0:36
good did you move that fish i can see the whole fish behind you now
0:42
wow i probably did one of these days or these
0:50
days joining us uh he's pete i'm ange this is fishing canada live
0:56
on a tuesday evening a chilly tuesday evening by the way in southern ontario what the hell is going on with that eh
1:02
winter time my friend you know what uh very quickly and i'm sure some of the people along the sidebar here will
1:08
attest to this we have a nephew out in alberta right now and he's running minus 15 minus 16 every day
1:13
he's been doing that for a while like i mean unbelievable we're we're lucky to get what we're getting right now
1:18
it's crazy right got dumped on there too not too long ago i'm sure somebody from saskatchewan will be on and tell us
1:25
about it but yeah we can't complain it is going to be winter here very shortly
1:31
for sure we're going to get it this is about this it's the same progression every it seems to just move a little bit later
1:37
every year you know what it means i mean you remember 20 years ago 20 30 years ago like everything was
1:42
frozen solid here by now like into november you were skating on the lakes not now not yet maybe a different winter
1:49
this year i mean obviously we're where none of us have ever been where we are right now in terms of
1:54
the whole pandemic thing and locked up and not locked up and now are we going to be locked up is it going to get worse
1:59
here in the weeks to come i mean what do you think very interesting winter what do you think
2:05
lockup um i don't think i don't think the politicians have got the balls to to
2:10
do it now to be honest with you uh do i think it's required man i remember
2:18
it seems like a hundred years ago now but i remember a few months ago i took a stand uh on
2:25
that whole position and i got hammered pretty good by everybody as to whether i thought we
2:30
should be locked up or not um should we be locked up should we be locked up listen
2:38
uh it ain't getting any better it's getting worse it ain't getting any better no matter how
2:45
maroons these idiots are having parties and containment areas and they're ruining it
2:51
for for everybody so those same people though are saying you guys are the idiots because there's really nothing going on
2:56
it's just the food for god's sakes what's the big deal it's party on let's rock on you guys
3:06
that it is something more than the flu and i'm also the opinion that i'm afraid that you know my loved ones and people i
3:12
know my my friends like yourself and everybody else is at risk and so you know i would feel guilty
3:19
thinking that maybe i was a part of somebody getting ill and uh and so you know i'm of the
3:26
opinion that we should be a little more restricted right you know jay's gonna be isolated that's for sure
3:34
absolutely a couple of cans of beans in there a.w.j catch some fish you're good for a month
3:39
damn it absolutely i'm with you oh god i think we should all go the ice here the next few weeks as it forms the hell with it
3:47
yeah i i think i think i can see worse before it gets better oh yeah sean says they should shut it down and
3:54
get it over with you know he's almost right you know what i mean is that i don't know if that's you know shut it
3:59
down and get it over with you have to have the vaccine still because otherwise you're just gonna you're just gonna put it on a pause i think but well no
4:05
no i mean think about it sean's right i i've said that all along right okay you want to get rid of it you
4:12
have to stop exposing people to it right that's how it perpetuates yep so if we stop exposing ourselves to
4:19
it which we're doing with masks and cleaning hands and staying away from everybody
4:24
if we stop exposing ourselves to it eventually it'll run out of fuel because right now the human race is the fuel
4:31
and if we stop giving it the fuel it's got to die eventually i don't know everybody everybody needs
4:37
to watch the south park pandemic special that's all i have to say you gotta watch that buddy my god it
4:44
makes so much sense how it started all i could say is there's there's a marijuana dealer
4:50
mickey mouse and a couple of animals involved that's all i'm gonna say okay
4:57
it's so good fantastic i love it
5:02
i gotta watch it i just gotta i keep forgetting have you watched borat yet no that's
5:08
another one i'm going to watch it the other day you're going to laugh but people will probably hate it most
5:14
people hate it but the lovers of guys like that is pretty good anyway sorry
5:20
we're way off topic we're supposed to be talking about something else and what that something else is that uh peter and i are now entering into the
5:28
post-production phase of our jobs and uh that's probably the most intense
5:34
part of what we do all year uh when we go into post-production it's a daily grind
5:41
and um we are we've been at it for a while already but now is now the doors have gotten shut you know
5:49
what i mean uh what's rob saying here and your foot fungus scares
5:55
people more than cool rob buddy you are the man brother that
6:03
is so good by the way just uh an update i'm i'm i'm looking pretty good actually
6:09
my i could almost i could almost walk on a beach with this foot now
6:14
wow they found a vaccine for that foot beautiful excellent that was good anyways thanks
6:21
rob for that one so we're entering into this this critical part of our
6:27
annual cycle and um one of the things that unfortunately
6:32
we're gonna have to give up for a few weeks actually four weeks to be exact is this show
6:38
and we will be going this will be the last one until december 15th which is a little bit less than a month
6:44
from now the significant date december 15th is that uh that's also the day that
6:50
we're giving away the motor boat and trailer package that a lot of you have had entries in on for some time now but
6:58
we're going to do it live yeah i'm going to do it live on this show
7:04
so it's going to be really exciting we're actually going to do the draw while we're on air we're going to call the person if
7:10
they're not watching we're going to dial them up here live and we're going to see if we can just shock the hell out of them
7:16
if they're not watching if they are watching and their name gets drawn they're going to faint and
7:22
it's going to be awesome it's going to be mayhem so that's on the 15th of december you do not want to miss that
7:28
of course along the way we'll be communicating with you uh through social media through our website uh and through all the other channels
7:35
and avenues that we have gotten accustomed to talking to you folks through
7:40
everybody's better remember to realize that it's not just ange and i there's a team behind even these little these things seem so impromptu us they
7:47
seem so off the cuff while they are with ange and i sitting here but we got mike jordan and sarah all you
7:53
know we're putting hours upon hours upon it when they need to go back in the post side of this company so can we
8:00
can can they come on there for a second can mike is it possible for you and and jordan to uh pop up or
8:08
and by the way we got to say happy birthday to jordan it's his birthday today it it is his birthday he hold on maybe
8:16
uh get me off put him on well no he doesn't have a camera uh going hold
8:22
on wow he had some package like that on his birthday and he doesn't have a camera going sheesh i thought he's a little more vain
8:29
than that come on anyways happy birthday jordan uh just wanted to let folks know that
8:34
that um there's more than just a pete and i on everything that we do although we are
8:41
the front and people see us and get have gotten used to our ugly mugs and talking to us there's a lot more
8:48
to us than meets the eye and michael is just one and jordan is another pete mentioned sarah
8:53
we've got joe we've got all kinds of people that work every day to try and make us look good
9:00
thank god we have them because can you imagine if we
9:07
thank you didn't much i'm not saying a word i'll just let him go
9:12
[Laughter] michael works on the roland martin
9:21
show uh and um has been doing a great job and i just viewed the uh the
9:27
finished product for episode one for roland nicely done okeechobee thank you very much he's
9:34
roll of got a bass in that episode looks like it looks like it's half pregnant half full of food half whatever it must be a
9:41
belly full of shad as the most unbelievable is going to ball on the side of this it couldn't even jump it couldn't even
9:48
jump through the water so fat so four seven eight pounders a beautiful large mouth so oh
9:53
my god uh it's uh so happy bird birthday jordan i apologize i didn't
9:59
even know thanks for reminding me peter you're welcome buddy and as an update roland is doing quite a bit better too
10:04
you talked to roland martin too but after his uh colby as far as he's concerned he's uh
10:11
100 completely recovered from uh cohen 19 and uh he's a testament to he's
10:18
saying uh if you stay healthy if you eat right he reminds me a hulk holder now when he
10:24
talks to me right okay do your vitamins kids exactly exactly so he says you know you eat right then you
10:30
rest and you sleep and you're dead you too can be covered 19 according to
10:36
romani i don't want to slag rolly but i'd love to see this workout regime before that
10:41
you know what i mean like but she said i better work out before i get this coping i wonder what is it i know i want to get in shape
10:49
because in case i get it you know at the age of 80 in the event that i get it i i need to
10:55
be in good shape and right and he's right you know what i mean no so
11:01
anyways so that's uh that's it on that part of it uh between now and the 15th
11:06
of december i would strongly urge each and every one of you to get as many ballots in that drum as we possibly can because
11:15
um we're gonna we're gonna we're gonna do a little something extra on this one i haven't even told you this
11:21
yet peter or tonight or for a month from now no on the 15th of december oh my
11:27
on the 15th of december here's what we're going to do here's what we're going to do i just
11:32
thought of this i just thought first of all first of all uh we've got a big garmin
11:38
prize package being put up sometime we're told like
11:44
i got the box beside me you want me to try and show it yeah yeah yeah let me see that okay i gotta need roland martin to help
11:49
me lift it because he's been eating his wheaties invite no wait okay folks just wait what do you see that
11:54
scream mike take me off the screen because this box is bigger than the screen there you go box is like freaking huge okay i'm going
12:00
to show you the size i'll show you the picture first of it it is like ah
12:07
i don't even know if i can hold this okay there's the box boys and girls and children of all ages
12:14
where's the others right there this is what this is what is in here look at how big this is honest to god
12:20
this is one fish binding unit in this box holy [ __ ] how big is the screen pete
12:26
what's that that's a nine inch screen but it's got everything in it it's got it's got it's a uhd
12:33
uh ultra high definition transducer at it um lightning screen of course it's a
12:39
portable unit but now they've they've put everything into a live scope everything is in this unit so
12:45
in the in the bag and we're gonna unbox this later at some other time and show everybody what's in there but in the bag they've got it all set up
12:51
the fish finder here the livescope unit here your battery pack is here it's just an amazing an absolutely
12:56
amazing price wow things that i'm taking it
13:01
do we know the price of that oh thousands oh i don't i don't know for sure like
13:08
i i honestly got ants i wouldn't i wouldn't even know how to guess but the live scope alone is two grand you
13:13
know what i mean portable kit it's a five thousand dollar
13:19
item if it's a penny yes probably is that you know what i mean it's uh so we're going to be giving that away
13:25
uh sometime here over the course of i have a feeling what they're
13:30
planning is putting it up as soon as we get rid of the last mercury 9.9
13:36
correct yeah it's coming up in a matter of days right the end of this month so today is
13:41
the 17th so in a couple of weeks we'll be giving away our last mercury motor for the year
13:47
and i think on that same day we'll be announcing that that huge uh garment package will be the next
13:54
uh and we'll have a we also have another small garment package uh but you know we should throw that we
14:00
should give that one more like a month like a one month drop but people can get that on the ice as soon as they won't work
14:07
see see you're you're going beyond where i wanted you to go now because what i want to do
14:12
what i want to do oh yell at me i didn't i said uh uh oh what i would like to do
14:19
is offer that other garment package yes on the 15th of
14:26
december when we make the live draw if the person
14:32
that we draw is on here live with us watching when we make the draw i don't
14:39
even know whether we have the technology for this but but we will find out if the person is
14:44
in fact live with us when we make the draw they'll get that extra bonus of that garmin unit if they're not
14:52
then that garmin unit goes on as the prize for next month for the month um
15:01
motor and trailer package we should but but they have to they listen it's a
15:07
gauntlet that they have to run here because first of all they have to get drawn and secondly they have to be on
15:13
here with us live they have to remember that the 15th of december we're going to be doing this thing live
15:18
so to me it's still a big chance if they if the planet's aligned and the stars
15:24
are all and why not okay but if if we don't which we're probably not going to
15:30
if we don't get a winner live we'll give away the garmin unit afterwards as it does all right that's good to
15:38
everybody everybody agree can i see a show of hands please that sounds all right that sounds all
15:43
right with me all right but that's fine okay i'll let you get
15:50
mikey like that you and i might get up there peterborough and drop that on a little lake get some carpets underneath that
15:55
thing you'd be doing good all right we're gonna do 15th of december we're all going to reconvene
16:01
here and do the draw and hopefully that to everybody that will be here uh out of all of everybody that's with
16:08
us one of them will [ __ ] how would that be the best like what are the chances of that paul kobiel says keep it separate we
16:14
should get a bunch of people in the uh we'll see what everybody says on here most of them are saying they're cool
16:21
i think well well that's what we're aiming for but things happen you know if we get if we
16:27
get annihilated in the in our comments and you guys don't do that then we maybe we won't be doing
16:33
that so this is just a a tentative plan how's that well right now i'm saying we're good because i see perfect good plan
16:39
sounds good uh way to go all that good idea great ace there's a lot more
16:44
of those positives than they do the negatives so all right people decide hey
16:51
what else you got to talk about because i got an interesting one that i've been holding back for a couple what i don't know i got this thing and
16:59
i have to let it out okay ryan gregory our our blogger from the northwest territory so ryan gregory is
17:04
an export from oshawa he used to work for angelo at barclays at the tv show or at the store and he
17:09
did a couple tv shows with us so ryan is now working uh up in in yellowknife in great slave lake
17:15
and in the process him and i have been talking and all that and i got a few fishing laws up there that blew my mind
17:21
and i wonder if you even knew about these six and i'll let the audience hear this because if there's anybody from northwest territories watching they can
17:27
verify this fact so i had heard that on great slave lake there is no closed season on walleye
17:35
pike and lake trout and he comes back with there's closures on walleye during the
17:41
spawning season you can as some of you can catch and release some you cannot depends on the areas a couple areas
17:47
other than that no closed season on those fish up there on that lake pike
17:54
all year doesn't matter spawning not spawning that doesn't surprise me i mean i mean you have to look at the
17:59
conditions too i mean closes in open seasons were designed to protect fish during their their most tolerable time right yeah but
18:06
they're spawning you shouldn't take any like if you're going to look at it that way you shouldn't anyways it was just a surprise to me
18:12
you're going to agree or disagree i'm not i don't wanna i just wanted to say these things out here okay okay how about this one how do you like this one
18:18
then mr biola you know i'm just saying any licensed buying angler
18:24
non-aboriginal anybody can purchase a gill net license
18:30
for ten dollars in a specific area of the lake and they can get
18:36
they can kill and keep 100 kilograms of whole fish anybody
18:42
this is not great bear great slave great sweet great slaves the northwest territories
18:47
uh residents only uh they have to be there living there in one year can purchase a substance harvesting license
18:53
and use a gill net in yellowknife bay only and maybe in the hay river there's a spot there they're not sure about that
18:59
one yet the size of the net uh that time and duration and the time
19:04
of year have various regs and mandatory reporting but yes it's 100 kilograms max this is good 100 kilograms
19:10
max total weight with guts and head unless you are feeding a dog team this is how dog sled companies feed
19:17
their dogs sometimes you can get a special amendment for this to supplement food for your dogs with
19:23
agree i agree with it a hundred percent i think yeah you know why because a lot of folks up there rely on
19:31
fish as sustenance and whether whether they're you know aboriginal and you mentioned that you
19:37
know the native community is exempt or or this this this is this is an addition too
19:42
in addition to what but but [Music] anybody pretty much anybody who lives up
19:48
in that area relies on wildlife as part of their intake all year in terms of sustenance
19:55
so that doesn't surprise me at all okay and the population numbers are so low
20:01
comparatively speaking of the body of water oh yeah the last one here's the last one
20:10
spear fishing is allowed for all game fish walleye pike lake trout
20:17
no matter who you are as long as you are scuba diving snorkeling or swimming
20:23
scuba diving snorkeling or swimming if you're just waiters poking them you can't do it
20:29
but if you're swimming around you're doing this right off the bat you're talking about
20:35
such a tiny percentage of people who would even be predisposed to to to doing kind of
20:42
diving in that cold body of water even during the open ice season well you're no fun anymore you used to be fun dude you used
20:49
to be formally responsible these are these are crazy though but just think about the laws themselves
20:55
it's like no way no way no way and then you say okay well they make you know obviously obviously you disagree with all this right you
21:00
totally disagree with i think it blows my mind as to what the these rules are that's all i've never heard of them before i've
21:06
never heard of that anywhere in canada before that you could spearfish as long as you've got a pair of fins on a mask and
21:11
snorkel for game fish for pike let's go spearfishing for pike lakers and walleye up there though yeah
21:18
you're good right only right there no you want to shock me and knock my socks off give me give me some of the rules and
21:24
regulations that are more uh uh urban centric in other words in the southern part of the country where
21:30
you've got more and more people and then i would be shocked at someone and by the way there are some insane
21:35
rules still on the books from 100 years ago that most of us aren't even aware of right oh yeah
21:41
but up there nothing shocks me you've been up there i mean good god that's good fishing is awesome azores
21:48
has some awesome spots yeah when you're yeah in the caribbean i can understand it for sure it would be fun
21:53
you know what i mean and it is harder than it looks oh you get that spear gun i mean you guys
22:00
should try it hell uh sean says we should try it do a show wouldn't that would that get the audience going
22:06
and she's gonna go spearfishing today while i pull my gill nets up okay i got 11 inch look at this big old pike
22:13
in here and yet we say that and yet you know it's still legal
22:18
to to go bowl fishing for carp in this part yeah so you know i mean
22:24
it's who knows anyways i just thought i wanted to bring them up i thought it was very interesting i i love interesting stuff like that
22:31
fishing you know fishing stuff claire phillips uh blair says we need a spearfishing episode
22:36
that's what i was just saying buddy
22:46
okay enough of that sorry i had to bring that up that's it you threw me off now now now i don't know where i was where was i
22:53
before you uh rudely interrupted you we were talking about the hiatus you were talking about the prizes the
22:58
beautiful government price package i have you were going to give away a combination of the little garment with the uh boat motor trailer if the
23:05
person's up there all right uh what's happening on uh
23:11
first of all we're gonna do we're gonna do an extended q a a little bit here in a few minutes uh we have no guests tonight
23:19
uh i can hear that i could hear everyone go ah chris johnson i saved my spears for
23:25
cormorants there's a sport chris i'm with you i i'm
23:30
gonna throw a question out to the audience has anybody participated in the cormorant hunt
23:36
that's what i want to know i haven't talked to anybody who's done it
23:41
i've read a little bit but i haven't talked to anybody no if uh if you've participated let us know
23:51
behind me in that over here in the shadow box yeah that's uh here
23:57
let me see if i can do one of these it's a shadow box right there it's like a director's chair
24:04
and uh a camera and and all kinds of neat stuff commander dory you're the commandatory
24:09
there yeah i'm the commandatory all right uh oh boy oh we're starting with the
24:16
questions and answers all right you just put it out there chase no we're
24:21
we're going to go there here shortly um what's on the uh on the website anything exciting right
24:28
now well tomorrow the boy's going to put up a fish du jour uh the latest and greatest fish du jour
24:33
and i have to say this to tuna is it poke or poke how do you say okay
24:38
and salmon ceviche that'll do i don't know i don't know how
24:45
to say it but i bet you it is good sebby shade that's correct yeah there you go is that italian what is that
24:53
spanish spanish okay anyways it looked good when the boys were filming and jordan mike got to
25:00
again uh shoot it and then indulge afterwards and they looked like they very much enjoyed it so that's going to be up on the site tomorrow another
25:06
thing yeah so in lieu of uh doing it here every tuesday like we we have have planned uh the boys are
25:14
just gonna put it up on the website every every week and uh give you a different recipe yeah from
25:19
uh from our in-house fish expert and they you know what so far they're
25:26
both very doable by like if i can do them anybody anger's a good cook and cooks all the time i don't cook a whole
25:33
lot and my fish cooking is very limited mostly to frying fish and walleye perch and pike et cetera et
25:38
cetera uh some shrubs too but these recipes so far what i've seen they're very doable if somebody wants to
25:44
take a little bit of time and they're almost in real time too mike and jordan were saying this is almost real time guys this guy does it so fast and it looks so
25:50
easy so they're great the thing is you know people don't realize fish fish is uh if you
25:56
cook fish more than three four five minutes six minutes you're you're overcooking it unless you're
26:01
making a stew out of it or something but if you're just uh quickly preparing fish
26:07
man it's three five minutes you're done so so really all the recipes are just down and dirty and quick using your imagination
26:14
but antonio does it so well oh my god it's uh it's uh fantastic
26:20
yeah but a very quick tip when you're frying your fish one time just once without any breading
26:26
on it or whatever put a filet in the pan and just watch it a walleye especially your clearash kind of you know it turns to white
26:32
just watch it just cooks you'll just see it go about halfway you see go to halfway you flip it over you won't believe how quick that happens i answer
26:38
like that's a minute and a half two minutes most you know when you're in a thick fillet flip it over you just
26:43
watch it cook and then you can the rest you know breading on that et cetera et cetera here's a question worth
26:48
asking uh clayton wants to know how did ange become a legend
26:54
wow that's a great question i will i'm going to let the audience answer that one wow
27:01
the legend that's a great question huh all right we'll uh we'll see what
27:07
the audience has to say about that i like that as well on the website uh we found a great little thing this is just
27:13
a discovery that we just found on the mercury website believe it or not it's how to maintain your outboard motor and i mean
27:20
although we all have our own little procedures that we do here and there i mean even angie and i although we have the latest and greatest we like to
27:26
up you know upkeep our our equipment as best we can but if you go to our website you're
27:31
going to see a link to the mercury site they have all these little movies on on different
27:36
ways of maintaining your motor from cleaning it from simple cleaning to flushing to getting fishing line off
27:42
your props et cetera et cetera so it's a really cool site so you want to check that one out i think it's a it's got to be valuable to anybody you
27:48
know i mean we all love our mercury fellow mercury people but any outboards i'm sure it would work
27:53
for any of the brands too right when i was asked the other day is do you need to drain out your lower
28:00
unit when you're if if you're not storing it indoors under you know climate controlled conditions
28:06
do you need to drain your lower unit the the gear oil i what i've been told is as long as you
28:13
change your gear oil freshly in the fall going into the winter then it won't freeze that that oil or
28:21
what do you call it uh hydraulic whatever it does not freeze but if you have water in there
28:27
so that's the problem sometimes water inadvertently snoops in through the seals et cetera et cetera you don't want to go without
28:35
maintaining it that way so you make sure you get that gear case oil changed and the reason being is that
28:42
a lot of the especially the older engines a lot of uh two-stroke and the older engines
28:48
tend to get some uh moisture in that lubricant get a bit of water in the oil and if
28:54
that freezes obviously but if you replace it you're good to go yeah we gotta we gotta before they slide
29:00
by me here we gotta answer some of the uh answers to why or how did angelo become a legend and uh ruben says
29:08
shameless self-promotion not bad that's pretty good i agree with that one uh every saturday
29:16
morning okay by starting starting canada's premier fishing show after a pioneering tournament career
29:24
there you go very nice reuben reuben you redeemed yourself after the shameless self wrote
29:33
he followed in his brother's or he followed his brother to stardom so reno led me
29:38
to he pulled me to stardom okay that'll work um ice fishing
29:46
that's it okay so uh he and his older brother were so far ahead of everyone getting on
29:52
national tv just amazing all right all right i've got i don't know whether i've said i
29:57
i've i've told you about this story or not but uh richard you are closer to being a
30:03
hundred percent right than you even know and sean you're almost 100 percent right
30:10
that you even know because i believe that uh both peter and i and reno obviously
30:16
really hit the the mother lode when uh we became a cbc national network property in the late
30:23
80s and through the 90s but the story on how that happened is absolutely
30:28
uh hilarious what you got another good one he said when he hired peter
30:44
the story is um that we had been struggling like
30:50
everybody else in our early in our careers to get airtime because at that time you know fishing
30:56
wasn't exactly uh the most popular tv commodity you could get and the other problem is there were
31:01
only like i think 12 television stations on tv so right it was more more uh product than there
31:09
was uh distribution uh areas right so it was tough for us to get on air
31:15
anyways so we were we were you know hit and miss here in small markets uh mostly in in uh ontario um
31:23
but reno my brother who had befriended a cbc program director in bc
31:32
on the uh west coast uh of the country um they got
31:38
really close they he we couldn't get the fishing canada show to play on the west coast because
31:45
because this particular gentleman who was in basically he was in charge of cbc all of
31:50
cbc's acquisitions for the province of british columbia he loved the show but he says i
31:55
can't i can't have you guys on the air out here you don't shoot very much bc stuff if you shot bc stuff that would
32:02
be great and then at that time pete i think we were shooting what one episode a year on the west coast maybe
32:07
if not maybe one or two yeah so anyways but regardless he loved the show and he kept
32:13
in touch with reno and then lo and behold the same guy's name was was ron devion or still is ron
32:19
debbie and hopefully he's still with us um he became program director for cbc
32:26
national network so he went from being a regional program director to being the head chief for the whole country and
32:34
that's how it happened reno contacted him and got a hold of him and
32:40
next thing you know now that he's in charge of canada the fishing canada show made sense to him so they picked it up and uh
32:47
i think that really gave us a kick in in the in the pants and uh and shot us up into
32:53
the certainly in terms of a national audience it was what we uh what we needed and it's great help so
33:00
you're probably right i did uh follow reno because he's the one who made that that deal work for sure he was a little
33:06
pit bull back then remember that he was just like a relentless little pit bull man he was good
33:13
[Applause] oh my god anyway so that's what happened uh moving on and there's one more we
33:21
have but one more thing on the website there's the uh the bae quinte fall walleye uh article which is going
33:27
on right now as we speak they're starting to get i'm getting reports from from guys out there that are having some
33:32
you know two and three fish days and some four or five fish days and a lot and some big fish again so there if you want to read an
33:37
extensive article on the bay quinney fall like in particular this time of year even if you're not going to go there
33:43
um but you just want to read about what everybody does out there what and i do out there it's a pretty good read and then and
33:50
then as well we give you uh a list of guides i mean for their websites we have places you
33:56
can stay in merlin park and and pick the number in there's lots of links et cetera et cetera and then we
34:02
link to all the baits that were you know we have been using in the past and then the transition to the newer stuff and why
34:07
and all that stuff it's a pretty it's a pretty uh involved article that's uh took some time to put together and i think
34:12
people so far responded quite well to it so are they uh have you did you reach out to uh scott and some of the other
34:18
boys are they running regular charters this year has covered changed the setup um i didn't ask that part of it but they
34:26
are running charters so so what's happening with scott for instance scott and david they're the walcott brothers that are out there and
34:31
they're based at picton harbor and they got two big boats giant boats david is on the water six days a week guiding uh scott's on
34:39
only about two uh right now but he's working on uh his west lake property remember we stayed that time
34:45
over on west lake so they're doing a great big gigantic rental over there too so that's taking up most of scott's uh
34:51
scott's work and scott's time so but they are together putting uh eight days uh a week on the water right
34:57
now so i'm assuming there's got to be some kind of cloven protocol because their boats are very
35:03
different than anybody else's their boats are enclosed there's a nice cabin inside the boat with a bench and heated
35:08
like if you want to go fishing in luxury and comfort at this time of year you get a hold of
35:14
the walcott voice and you go there because i'll tell you what it's like it's like no other it's luxury at its best you can be warming but but i'm
35:20
assure that it's a small little cabin area so there's got to be some kind of protocol in there you know what i mean or maybe
35:27
to make them stay outside at the back i don't know um and then the other the other one is kevin levers at merlin
35:34
park kevin just has a 22 foot walleye boat so he's more traditional does the same stuff out planner boards et cetera et cetera but
35:39
he's an outside boat and i know kevin will be guiding right now too i don't know how they situate the people on the boat but
35:46
i i would i would classify for those who have not fished
35:51
that fall fishery in the bayquinti and especially for those of you who have not experienced it uh with with
35:58
a high level guide like either any of them one the ones that pete just mentioned i would classify it as a bucket list
36:05
trip wouldn't you yeah i i really would yeah it's so different yeah it's one of those things
36:12
that that you have to do to experience first of all first of all that that
36:18
extreme fishery because it is extreme well you can imagine this time of year from here on in as the colder it gets going out on lake
36:24
ontario even though it's the bay equity it's still big water and cold and windy
36:31
and miserable and water spraying and ice forming on the deck and
36:37
like all the things that you would expect fishing in november and december right yeah what but i gotta tell you
36:44
the the adventure that it will give most people the opportunity to
36:51
experience is next to none when you when you hook up into a double-digit walleye and it's
36:58
your personal best and you know out there if you hook one up it's probably going to be your your pb
37:05
without question right the excitement that shoots through your body when that happens you might you could be
37:11
naked and you wouldn't feel the cold so it's definitely one of those one of
37:17
those must do's once in your life you know what good point good point and you know i'll tell you
37:23
another thing that i've got a lot of walleye in my life uh but i haven't got a whole lot of
37:29
10 pound plus walleye and the by far majority of the 10 pound plus walleye i've got
37:34
are in the bay 20 when you it's funny because you get these goals so i but for the longest time i
37:40
lived in napanee and fist debate my whole life never had a ten i always had nines eight seven i was i was going nuts
37:45
everybody's getting these tens and i was going crazy long story short i got my ten i was just what not oh my god look at the size of this fish then when
37:51
you get an 11 it looks that much bigger than a 10 when you get a 12 it looks like that but and we start i've got a couple of 14s now i've got two
37:58
fish over 14 pounds when you see a 14 pound walleye folks you are not gonna believe what that thing looks like
38:04
in a net it is gargant you'll swear it's 20 balance if you don't know what a big walleye looks like you're going to say that's a 20
38:10
pounder it's that it is that big that's a 34 35 inch walleye 34 inch fat walleye and it's just the most
38:18
incredible sight you'll ever see and there's a good chance of that every year there for sure by the way i
38:23
have to uh mention this um i got uh i got told earlier today that
38:30
apparently my daughter was on here has been the last couple of weeks and making comments and
38:36
saying hello and i ignored her has any did have you noticed abby on here nope did she go on an alias or did she
38:42
go no no she was on i thought i saw a comment or
38:47
something like that i have i did not notice so if anybody sees my daughter on here let me know
38:55
look over at me if it happens again it might be you heard about it didn't you she gave
39:01
it to you she gave me the gears so that's it for the website that's the
39:06
new stuff on there the the walleye the quinty walleye they maintain your outboard motor and the fish dude coming up tomorrow so
39:12
that's the new stuff that's coming up right let's uh divest ourselves with some of these questions shall we
39:18
uh do you guys ever use floating jigs for walleye we talked about this a couple of weeks ago with the dock as a matter of fact
39:26
um i i don't use them that often but that when they're required absolutely
39:31
they're they're a valuable tool it's not something that you require every time you go jig fishing though for
39:38
sure you know what ann said right there just quickly they're a tool he made it's a good point
39:43
what he just said it's a valuable tool you use them when you need to use them if you don't need to use them don't use
39:48
them gmj outdoors wants to know what's the best depth for ice fishing for lake trout i'll give you my version and then
39:55
pete can give you his i'm telling you right now mine's pretty simple the best step to fish for lake trout is
40:00
where the lake trout are that's on the bottom is the bottom if they're up on the surface
40:06
it's on the surface and if they're somewhere in between it's somewhere in between
40:11
you know what yeah i mean this is the time of year where you don't need to do that hundred foot of water i mean that's the thing i'm sure they
40:17
still go out there i don't know anybody that ice fish is that deep i mean even guys probably do but i'd say you know what that that
40:23
30 to 50 range is a nice range and ligand said again we're pushing that garmin unit
40:30
your fish finder is crucial this time of year because the lake trout is a it's a follower all year
40:36
but ice fishing you can tease those fish into biting by bringing them up off the bottom and having them chase up sometimes they won't bite them
40:42
so um i think a 35 to 50 range and keep your electronics on all the time when you're
40:48
ice fishing if you have them and there's going to be a couple people have them pretty soon here
40:53
and by the way you know that that i mean that unit that we're giving away would obviously be a huge help to everybody
40:59
but uh and we've talked about this at nasum for the last couple of months the new electronics out
41:06
although they're designed for open water fishing and they're absolutely spectacular for that i really think
41:13
they're going to come into their own this winter uh as an ice fishing tool
41:19
that is that live scope that we've been talking about i i really believe that anglers that are going to be deploying
41:26
live scope this year through the ice are going to have a distinct advantage
41:31
over all of the other anglers on that sheet of ice that don't have it there is no doubt
41:36
about it right for sure the reason and the reason being is you're going to be able to drop
41:41
put your transducer in a hole and look all the way around in a big area around to the side it's not just necessarily
41:48
below you now you can see oh look over there there's a school of perch or crappies over there 55 feet go over there you know what i
41:54
mean yeah these things are bundled they're called ice bundles but what ann said they're open water slash
42:00
ice bundles do not be stuck in that oh i got to put it away for the year after the winter's over for the spring
42:05
uh keep that thing out 365. uh what type of jigs do you prefer for
42:11
ice fishing um once again depends on where and what
42:17
but stuff like swedish pimples are a really good ice fishing jig that i
42:22
like to go to but anything vertical anything that's got i if you're referring to just your regular lead head jig head i probably would say
42:31
i i would use them maybe five percent of the time maybe ten percent of time
42:36
all other jigs have got uh some sort of uh body form to it like a pimple like uh any any of the uh
42:44
of the ice fishing jigs that have got they're basically an imitation minnow made out of lead and generally painted
42:49
and or have got some kind of a a finish on them with a hook on the end and you can what's nice about them is that you can
42:56
by popping them they actually start and swim around before they settle back down so it's uh and and always in my opinion
43:05
if you have the opportunity always tip them off with some form of live bait if you can if
43:12
it's legal in that jurisdiction if you have the ability to bring it with you out on the ice always
43:17
always but always tip it and not necessarily with a whole minnow either by the way in those cases it's probably you're
43:24
better off without a whole minnow yeah and right just using the head or you know
43:29
yeah yeah and let the jig do do the action let the the part of that mineral that that's on
43:35
there as attract attract fish as a sense more than anything else it used to be back in the day used
43:42
before all the little portable huts came out and all that stuff it was very hard to deal with live bait because you you
43:47
know we started back in the day you stick the hook through his back and that'd be the whole minnow laying on his back and it'd be gone if a fish even sniffed it
43:53
or whatever but nowadays with these huts and that you want to take like we've taken a lot of things we'll take the split ring right off take the hook
43:59
right off put the middle put the shaft of the hook right through the middle's head out of his mouth then put it back on so that thing stays on there for two or
44:05
three fish you know what i mean so but now with your little portable huts you can do that with your hands keep yourself warm and all that just making
44:11
things more effective but another good bait uh inch is is uh the horizontal style baits
44:16
like or apollo jig jigging wrap stuff like that those are still to this day really
44:22
good like dan says that action it was like the those jigging wraps are crazy and
44:27
sometimes that's what it takes um to guess those fish so what the little northland spoons the this pimples
44:33
against them were the old champs the bevels and jacks they're great to this day you know
44:38
sometimes you put some mylar tape on them sometimes they're just good gold or silver so yeah
44:44
hopefully that answers your question uh tim hey tim how you doing buddy uh when does uh outdoor drew oh god
44:54
tim's relentless to it i won't be away from this um i i don't know tim i can't i can't
45:02
answer i honestly don't know i get asked that every single day
45:07
every single day i get asked the same question and it has the answer has so many moving
45:13
parts that i cannot possibly um answer it right now
45:19
with any sort of certainty i do not know so i i apologize for
45:27
for using that answer in every case but that's the god's honest truth i don't
45:33
know it's not just up to one person it's it's a whole collection of of
45:40
events and people and uh you know not to mention i'll be honest with you not to mention the fact
45:47
that that that uh it i've been doing that show for
45:52
almost 30 years and committing saturday mornings for two hours every
46:00
saturday morning for two hours to go live is i know it doesn't sound like much to
46:07
most people but it's huge it's a monumental commitment because once you commit
46:14
you're in it's not like you say okay well let's try it for a week or two and see what happens right and um so i i guess what i'm saying i
46:22
don't wanna i don't want this to sound like a cop out and i'm blaming somebody else
46:28
i'm part of the blame because i have not i have not clearly
46:36
decided whether i want to continue committing my saturdays that's the bottom line
46:44
and that's very difficult for me at this time to uh to i miss it like crazy like you wouldn't
46:49
believe how much i miss it but i don't know man i i don't know
46:59
what are your favorite rods and reels for walleye there you go pete well tom or tom barrero
47:05
um i mean it breaks down again to spinning and bait casting
47:11
as as all of our fishing does um i i'm gonna say i use spinning more than i do bait casting for
47:17
for a while i probably probably two-thirds at least or three-quarters spinning to a little bit of bait casting all my
47:24
jig fishing for 99 of my jig fishing is with spinning gear
47:29
um i like a lightish medium medium fast kind of seven foot
47:35
rod in that area um the same stuff i used basically for smallmouth bass goes for
47:40
walleye too ten pound test braid to a nice little eight or ten pound fluorocarbon leader
47:46
does most of the deal for for me i will run some straight fluorocarbon sometimes depends on the day but i like that break the floor i'm
47:53
getting used to it even more now for walleye and smallmouth the more you use them on multiple species the better you get
47:58
with the tools too you get a better feel for it no matter what um the times i do use baitcasters uh are
48:06
when i'm throwing big cranks and i'm throwing big big baits like casting a big crankbait
48:11
that's something i need to get down quite deep and you just you know with spinning it won't handle that torque when you're reeling it in
48:17
like that if i'm throwing light crank baits which i do a lot around the weeds etc spinning is great for that spinning with
48:24
a limber rod and maybe some braided line you can throw you know small little shad wraps and small cranks like that
48:29
and the berkeley cranks there's all kind of tons of them out there that are very light spinning is great for that nice limber
48:35
rod when you're throwing those hard baits for walleye especially you want to use a limber rod you want to make sure that that rod's got a lot of
48:41
flex especially if you're running braid because while i weed walleye are crazy they fight so much harder than any other wall
48:47
i don't know why and angela attest to that because he's done it through the quartus here his whole life as well and there's
48:53
something about weed walleye that they just go nuts so when they're hitting your cranks you've got to have a nice soft rod so they'll
48:58
have a lot of give then you set the hook and have all the fight going on you want it to all work to your favor
49:03
so um spinning seven footish medium fast
49:08
braid to floral is the 75 percent or higher for me for walleye excellent
49:16
pretty much covered at all the other thing i would add to that is uh uh don't forget to
49:22
and i think it's way underutilized for walleye don't forget drop shotting it it needs to be part of that arsenal
49:28
yeah but that's 100 spinning again right exactly and in that case it's that seven foot uh
49:35
uh rod that pete was just talking about or there are specific rods designed for drop shotting which i absolutely
49:41
love by the way uh shimano's a great one i don't know what model it is but uh i use it religiously for drop shotting
49:48
and it is yeah a lot a lot of companies have technique specific rods and drop shotting is included in that
49:54
and mary malone wants to know any further updates on possible lodge 88 trips as a matter of fact i'm glad
50:00
you brought that up because it is very much uh still in play we just have
50:05
to decide when we want to unveil it uh but we will be giving away a trip for
50:10
two to lodge 88 for the 2021 season
50:16
i i i i would like to say uh probably in early in the new year uh but it will be
50:22
coming up we've talked to david i've talked to david uh about this uh as well because what he suggested
50:29
that we do and i think we've talked about it here on air in fact i remember um a few months ago
50:36
we had buck martinez on the air and we were talking about lodge 88 and he said man i'd love to go when you guys
50:42
do that trip i'd love to go and then people started chiming in here on the chat board saying why don't you make a whole package out
50:49
of it you know and so we are contemplating that um damn it there's just so many
50:57
variables uh moving into the new year we don't even know this year i guess it's just this
51:02
this year's problem what the landscape is going to look like
51:08
i mean i i don't know but but in a let's put this way if we have our way in a perfect world
51:14
and i've talked to david uh the owner of lodge 88 on this fact if we have our way in a perfect world
51:20
what we'd like to do is is kind of take the whole or a big part of the camp uh
51:27
over for that period that weekend or four days but whatever we decide it to be and then have a special price
51:36
for people to uh join us at lodge 88 for that four day period
51:43
a very special price that lodge 88 will put up uh four guests during that four day date um
51:50
we'll bring in a few other uh personalities uh buck martinez being one of them uh maybe
51:56
we throw in a roland martin maybe we throw i don't know we'll we'll we'll come up with a package but the the deal would be this
52:03
is that we we publish those dates people book those dates and
52:10
then we make a draw for somebody from that group to win their trip free
52:18
so that's what david would like us to do uh how the logistics work i don't even know
52:23
whether we we from a from a legality standpoint whether we can do that without opening
52:28
it up to the general public so these are all things that we're gonna look into uh but uh if if we can i think that would be
52:35
the best way to do it we'd have a blast that would happen it'd be a fun trip for sure right yeah
52:40
and then of course we have the other problem is that if we do that with david in lodge 88 uh we have a few other lodge owners who
52:47
would have their uh they have their lower lip sticking out uh at us so we would
52:54
probably have to maybe an annual thing but it's an annual thing then we make we make it an annual thing and i don't
53:01
know i think it's great we've been those in the past obviously we've done them uh when we were doing boot camp uh we
53:08
we would uh entertain groups of uh 30 to 40 people um for a week
53:14
and man it was a riot so yeah those would be great uh yeah it
53:20
says boot camp too what was that oh tim's got another one
53:26
though very quickly what sort of shape are northern lodges in right now a lot of the lodges are tim are are open
53:32
they are just doing uh uh it's funny because you're asking this because ange and i have been talking to a lot of this week
53:37
especially and uh uh like eric and es nagamilad she said that they you know
53:43
it's they're totally different in the dining areas it's every second seed it's every two weeks
53:50
this or you know there's every second trip and all that but what they're doing a lot of these camps is in
53:56
what ted putnam told us is they're working on their camp a lot too they're upgrading everything in these
54:01
camps um making them that much better for when all this craziness stops so they're still going
54:07
um a lot of them are closed now for the winter of course um but they're still they're bettering
54:12
themselves still they're you know they're doing whatever they can too a lot of them did not open
54:17
a lot of them just couldn't see fit to open because their client was predominantly uh american and of course border that
54:24
border issue is uh is a huge huge problem for some of our operators but you know what
54:30
as we've been saying all along to them and to you uh maybe it's a perfect opportunity for them to
54:37
depend less on american guests and more on us more on canadians uh so uh maybe maybe 2021 will be the
54:45
year when when we make that change and uh that'd be great so we'll see
54:51
we'll keep you important on that but we will definitely be giving away a a lodge 88 trip in 2000 for
54:57
2021. just viola don't bring your blowhorn that's all i ask okay don't
55:03
bring that freaking russian army horn that you had a boot camp but people don't do that to our friends okay
55:11
so what i do at these camps just so that you know so just so that you know is
55:18
nobody gets a break if you want to stay up and play with the boys
55:25
at night you got to get up with the man and the men get up at 3 30 4 o'clock 4 15
55:30
at the latest meaning if you're up all night be prepared to have a loudspeaker
55:38
blown into your ear to wake you up at those ungodly times that's tradition on our boot camp so
55:44
just so that you know
55:53
oh no viola get lost here he comes you can hear him coming from halfway across the campus
56:07
leeches i don't know oh leeches for for uh ice fishing maybe you're saying oh no no no we're talking about leeches
56:14
with nick at lodge 88 when nick didn't like him and all that i bet you all right right right right perfect
56:20
perfect tony gotcha what's the best time to use snap weights
56:26
for walleye in northern lakes in ontario wow that's a good that's a great question i never hear anybody asking that
56:32
yeah i bet you barry watch i read that article we had on there he put the snap barry it's obviously you're trying to
56:39
get deeper with snap weights right now depends on uh he said walleye didn't he i think he said well
56:44
yeah yeah um you're obviously fishing really deep lakes uh to begin with because let's be honest
56:51
some of the cranks you can buy nowadays will go down to 30 feet of water right 25 30 is not a problem getting down to it
56:58
nowadays with 15 pound fluorocarbon with even 20 pound model you can still get down that deep
57:04
these cranks were that deep so you're talking about getting down even deeper than that so you're pretty much talking the summer time
57:10
once the spawn is over the bishop moved out the summertime and into the fall and there's there's
57:15
there's ants and i have discovered through the years there's there's we kind of break our populations
57:21
of walleye into two groups there's the open water group that feed on schools of bait fish all year long they
57:28
don't care about going to the shallows they go to the shallows to spawn and breed and that's it and then the other ones that go in the
57:33
spot and then they find the weed bits they find the shoals and they find everything else like that you're looking for those open water fish
57:38
so right off the bat you need your good electronics to show you you got to figure out those are walleye that's the toughest thing sometimes
57:43
because there might be suckers you might be late trout who knows what they are down you know in the deep and then you got to start running your
57:48
snap weights out there so you know that mid summer time when the water temperatures are are heavy duty and and
57:55
work from there but snap weights you've got to remember these ones that were running out on quinte we're trying to get that bait down there
58:02
40 40 plus feet in a hundred and something feet of water and that's what we're fishing so if you're fishing over 100 feet of water
58:08
for your walleye up here that's you know in the summertime definitely go for it and even in the fall it'll work in the fall as well like
58:14
right now not right now it's probably frozen where they are up there now but two weeks ago three weeks ago you can get back on that
58:19
deep bite with that so you know let the spawn happen and then start looking deep
58:26
good answer hopefully that works hopefully that works i'd like to let me know your results i'd love to hear your
58:31
snap weight results up in the north for sure that'd be cool
58:37
uh what have we got uh what's your favorite species to fish in southern ontario oh wow wow um
58:45
well uh personally personally i i've got to say that
58:53
smallmouth bass has kind of been on my favorite list for
59:00
a few years now prior to that largemouth would have been uh that fish but i think
59:06
smallmouth has taken over um and not just southern ontario anywhere pretty much their
59:12
their range has expanded so much in the last decade it's just incredible so i i'm gonna have to say smallmouth
59:18
for sure oh my god i'd say large mold bass bucket mold bass and big mouth bass have been my three my
59:25
three favorites right there i'm very biased i'm very biased still too large both i still
59:31
love it i get enough of it i don't know what it is about it because the smallmouth like yes is talking about fights better than marshmallow
59:37
i guarantee he plays better six pound to six pound there's no comparison but i just there's something about
59:43
largemouth fishing it's about the hunt going after that fish the whole game there's something
59:49
about it that just keeps drawing me in every year i'm not even done this year if i can get out one more time this year
59:54
i'm going for it but you know it's fewer and far tree but it's just that i love largemouth fishing something about
1:00:00
it yeah it's more of a hunt than i think than any other type of uh fishing yep there's a lot of visual
1:00:06
contact that you make with the fish which is always exciting but it's more of a hunt you're right
1:00:12
and i i still love it i just said smallmouth lately last few years has really been at the
1:00:17
top and they're getting so big in southern ontario too that's the thing with the gobies right the smallies are getting so freaking
1:00:23
big it's ridiculous how big they are so
1:00:28
hit like what's that what would be some ice fishing adventures planned this year
1:00:35
would you like to get out be nice to get out for sure this would be the year yeah for sure
1:00:42
exactly like i said the air i mean everything is who knows
1:00:48
at this point i mean it's one thing i know for sure is that we've got our work cut out for us the next
1:00:53
three weeks with in post-production so there'll be no outdoor activities for the next month
1:00:58
for us let's put it that way yeah yeah yeah yeah no kidding
1:01:04
and richard and hanson are greasy i'm advanced smallmouth are the best for sure i mean most people are gonna i
1:01:11
mean there's a i think there's a i wonder maybe we could ask the yachties what do you like better large mother
1:01:16
smallmouth in a mini pole there is there is there a preference because we know we i get the small
1:01:22
is a better fighter et cetera et cetera i like that but i also i want to throw this up uh richard uh corcoram
1:01:30
quarkum what causes guilt lice in speckle trout never even heard of it
1:01:37
never even hurt i'll tell you you stumped the chumps that's a great question i'm not familiar
1:01:44
with them at all to be honest with you not gill lice um yeah and fill us in if you've got any
1:01:52
information let us know what uh what that's all about for sure yeah yeah what's the largest
1:01:58
fish you have ever caught while ice fishing well that's a great question calvin
1:02:03
i for me it was a drum freshwater drum and it was insane
1:02:14
going through the ice too they're ridiculous those things i don't know it was absolutely insane i don't know
1:02:19
how big it was you know let's just say it was like 78 pounds it was awesome but i was light lining it and through
1:02:25
the ices certainly not expecting uh i might have been perch fishing on simcoe as a matter of fact if i'm not
1:02:31
mistaken but it was total mayhem but that would be it i i should say that i think i've caught the
1:02:36
odd big pike through the ice in my years years ago yeah yeah yeah the drum is the one that stuck
1:02:44
to my head now and i'll tell you that was that had to be 30 years ago at least
1:02:50
because i i'm thinking mine was when i was a kid lake trout or something like that my dad and i i used to go out all the time but i
1:02:57
caught a i caught a drum on bay quinny once through the ice as well and this fish but they're you know drum
1:03:03
everybody watching they get big this way they get big deep they don't they're not real fat they're kind of thin this song [ __ ]
1:03:09
wouldn't come through the hole i had a i had a boga uh and i couldn't i had an eight inch hole there's no way i was gonna get this
1:03:15
thing through the hole i thought okay what am i gonna do here you know what i mean and i think i got two that day and one i got
1:03:20
through the hole that that one i just flip them off and let them swim away because i couldn't get them out there was that they were that
1:03:26
and fight even in the wintertime those things are ridiculous they're great fighting fish it's one of
1:03:32
those under utilized fish in my opinion you know that we don't target none of us really targets like carp it
1:03:39
wasn't until a few years ago that we started targeting carp but i don't know of anybody who ever says okay i'm
1:03:46
going to go out to sheephead fishing today no it's always an incidental catch
1:03:51
but i think if we got better at catching them and finding them and and and whatnot i think it'd become a great
1:03:56
sport fish because they are a fighting machine oh my god you know so
1:04:02
crazy george pern isis for drinks
1:04:09
georgie's always coming through uniform a lot of small mouth guys on the by the way on the side there a lot of
1:04:15
guys are liking the smallies i saw one guy for uh for topwater for largemouth but love the fight of a smallmouth and how
1:04:21
good they are at spitting the hook no kidding well no kidding buddy that's
1:04:26
[ __ ] that doesn't go to cook spitting university oh yeah yeah they they grow up that's part of
1:04:33
their apprenticeship to get bigger i think smallmouth without a doubt
1:04:39
burbot is my next goal burbanderga suli silly outdoors i guess this um
1:04:46
they're popular fish through the ice eh uh yeah more and more people here
1:04:52
fishing for them they're they're uh they're plentiful in a lot of our our lakes and uh
1:04:57
apparently really good eating uh i can't tell you that for certain myself because i don't think i've ever
1:05:03
tried it but apparently very good eating so and they spawn they spawn under the ice that's the key to these because
1:05:09
there's no i don't think there's a closed season on them so you're allowed to fish them spawning and apparently they bite really well at
1:05:16
night or they come up to spawn at night or something like that i've never fished for them either but from what i've heard and there's some
1:05:21
big ones remember that one we put a post on the web and so one time on our own fishing canada giant yeah it was unbelievable
1:05:29
yep okay what else we got michael come up throw them up there bud
1:05:39
piecework what's your favorite ice fishing rod uh
1:05:45
set up and set up that's it um i mean i mean you can't beat uh
1:05:50
purpose-made uh short little rods designed for specifically for ice fishing
1:05:56
and not for any other reason other than if you are uh jigging them if you are actually
1:06:02
putting some action in your bait those little rods are just so much easier to handle that than than a long rod that you're you
1:06:09
kind of awkwardly have to keep over the hole so a purpose-made ice fishing rod in a medium action and now you can get them
1:06:15
in all the same actions that you can a regular run so it really becomes interesting um
1:06:22
as well and matching it up with the right size reel and line and all that stuff becomes it's it's now i think ice fishing has
1:06:28
gotten to a point now where it's as complex as you want to make it just like regular
1:06:33
yes right you could go out on the ice with six rods now six seven rods almost like
1:06:39
that right yeah and um and so it's become really uh that's why more and more people are
1:06:45
doing it because it's just so much fun to uh to experiment and now as mentioned before with
1:06:50
new electronics that are available to ice fishermen the game has changed completely no more uh gone are those days where
1:06:58
you'll sit on top of a hole all day long and get one or two bites that just won't happen anymore in
1:07:04
ice fishing unless you want it to happen because now you can literally chase the fish follow the fish
1:07:11
chase the fish because you can see them for the first time ever you can see them 100 feet away
1:07:18
you drill a hole drop your your unit and 100 feet 150 feet 120 feet
1:07:25
away you can see that school of fish so why are you going to sit here for the next hour hour and a half
1:07:31
when there's nothing here so you're going to up move that 150 feet drill a hole set yourself up and start
1:07:38
catching fish i'll tell you a rod action that freaked me out when and this was
1:07:43
back when reno was working with us reno and i went up to us a crappy fishing area uh on the ice and it was really tough it
1:07:52
was freezing cold nasty nasty nasty day we knew the crappies were there i don't know we're running a fish finders back
1:07:57
then it was that long ago we might not have been but anyways long story short we couldn't
1:08:02
feel the bites at all these fish were getting so light we couldn't feel the bites but we had
1:08:08
a rod which they have a lot of now but we had a rod back then the tip was so light on it that you
1:08:14
couldn't you tried to jig with it and it wouldn't do anything the rod doesn't bend like crazy it was horrible for that but
1:08:21
we set it on the bench on a little chair sticking out like that so that was just sitting
1:08:26
there above the hole with it with a live minnow on it and just and a weight just enough weight to get
1:08:31
the middle down like that and you just watched that rod tip it would be just it would be i don't know if i can show it here you just see
1:08:37
this the rod tip would do that just just barely even moving it that was a crappie that grabbed that
1:08:44
minnow and just walked in his mouth he didn't take off but it didn't move with it he just did like that nowadays you can buy a lot of rods that
1:08:49
are specific to that but back in the day that's how ice fishing rods sort of evolved with stuff like that because
1:08:55
you we couldn't tell we got and then we ended up catching some big crappies that day only because we saw that we said wait
1:09:00
wait wait wait and then finally okay hit him there he is wow it freaked
1:09:06
us out it was so cool so yeah you hate you hate that though when that's when that happens
1:09:16
there's a question here um about whether we have ever seen a mud
1:09:22
puppy if you could put it up for me please because i got a funny story about that
1:09:28
so andrew pete have you ever caught a mud puppy no i have not caught one but i can tell you
1:09:34
something a mud puppy scared me to the point where i crap my pants one day and i'll tell you what happened scary
1:09:41
edible i don't know how many of you are familiar with these things but they're they're basic basically um a lizard-looking
1:09:49
creature but they've got these exterior gills that are really freaky looking round sort of
1:09:54
fetish head but anyways so we had built this huge aquarium this
1:09:59
was when we first opened barclays in 1983 the retail store and we had built this huge aquarium
1:10:07
um out of out of boulders and rocks the aquarium was
1:10:12
approximately 10 000 gallons of fresh water massive the size of a bedroom anyways george who's on on here with me
1:10:20
might have been around at that time he might have been working for berkeley so he might remember the story so we we were starting you know we we
1:10:27
started um bringing in all sorts of fresh water fish we wanted to populate the aquarium
1:10:32
uh so that it resembled a typical freshwater lake that we would have in southern
1:10:38
ontario so we were putting everything in there including uh two
1:10:44
uh mud puppies that came in that were that were you know i'm gonna say at the time they they
1:10:50
might have been six inches in in length from from nose to tail they weren't huge but that'd be kind of cool because you
1:10:57
know they are although most people never get a chance to see them in the wild they are prevalent in
1:11:02
our freshwater systems so we put them in not thinking that these things are going to disappear
1:11:09
immediately in 10 000 gallons all rock and gravel and and boulders and stuff they're going to
1:11:14
be gone like nobody's going to even see them so well that's what happened and uh
1:11:20
and they disappeared so months later somebody
1:11:26
said hey it might have been me for all i know you know what happened to the mud puppies and of course they were gone
1:11:34
and we made an assumption that they were eaten that fish the bass and and
1:11:40
whatnot that we had in the tank the walleye the pipe somebody ate the mud puppies so they're gone because they did totally
1:11:45
disappeared off the face of the earth so now roll forward about two years
1:11:50
later and i'm at the top of the aquarium um it was it was uh the store was closed i
1:11:56
had gone in for something else and i was all by myself and so i climbed up to the top of it
1:12:01
and sort of worked my way down and i was i was doing something around the aquarium and watching the
1:12:08
fish from up above and stuff and i heard this this this
1:12:13
this rustling over my over my shoulder there was a a trough that that took the
1:12:19
overflow water and dumped it into the filter and i heard this little rustling so i
1:12:24
put my head next to the opening underneath it and all of a sudden all i can tell you is that in my mind
1:12:30
it was a dragon it came out and hissed at me and flared those gills i just about
1:12:36
died i just about died so i found out where the mud puppies were they were living for the last two years
1:12:42
in behind all of the rocks and stuff and coming out at night when there was nobody around they'd come out and feed they'd feed on
1:12:48
the minnows and all the other bait that we'd have in the tank right yeah so that was my experience with the
1:12:54
puppies you're trying to get out of me believe me how big was it but did you get an idea i just saw the
1:13:00
head we never did discover where they ended up going the only thing that we could think of eventually they got so big
1:13:06
that they probably either died behind the rocks died and one of the you know the
1:13:12
predator fish started chewing them up and eating them but we never found them other than that
1:13:17
one incident i had two years after the fact we never saw them again and as you know we demolished that tank
1:13:24
about 10 years later and moved it but we never found them so holy [ __ ] no idea
1:13:32
based on the head that i saw hissing at me right i think had to be 20 inches long
1:13:39
if not oh it was massive the head the head was was the size of a of a a good-sized
1:13:46
apple oh and it was and the flared gills oh my
1:13:51
god and you still have those guild things like do they keep that their whole life yeah
1:13:57
they they they're an external gill because the fish can breathe both water and air right
1:14:03
and or not fish whatever it is i don't even know what it is whether it's a fish or a reptile but yeah so anyways that's a
1:14:10
long about way to tell you yeah i've had an encounter with never coward i'm curious has anybody ever caught one
1:14:16
that would be kind of wonderful i've never caught them but i've seen them caught uh and i've seen people bring them in
1:14:21
buckets to say they got them on the line but i've seen them like literally right beside me and i didn't touch them i said that's pretty gross you know
1:14:27
you know and we always ask ourselves when we're when we're using lizards as bait
1:14:33
especially you know carolina carolina rigging lizards we we always say well why in the world would a lizard
1:14:38
work well that's what a mud puppy looks like in the water exactly
1:14:43
exactly what it is exactly uh do you think uh terry will produce a 10
1:14:49
pound largemouth or smallmouth anytime soon if so what uh would you guess where
1:14:54
would you guess well uh smallmouth if it's going to happen there's two lakes that i think
1:15:00
it could happen uh lake simcoe would be would be one and of course the
1:15:06
saint lawrence river i think that's probably where where if it can i think it'll come out of the
1:15:12
saint lawrence at some point in my opinion you know what i i definitely
1:15:17
would agree with you i i i'm more of a tendency to simcoe though than than like i mean then they're both
1:15:23
just flip of the coin but just when you see the every year they seem to be getting a little bit bigger out of simcoe those tournaments et cetera et
1:15:29
cetera the late fish and there you're getting here num number of eight pound plus fish now every year coming out so i'm gonna say
1:15:36
it's to happen i don't know when and largemouth i don't know i mean the canadian record
1:15:41
is i think 10.41 and that's that of preston or prescott lake not that far
1:15:48
from here there's there's even questions on the legitimacy of that one um there has been a 10 pounder in canada
1:15:56
caught that was in bc but i don't know about ontario man i know that's that is such
1:16:03
a huge largemouth bass i mean it is freaky if you i mean i don't know who's ever caught uh
1:16:09
a seven let's say you ever see it i was like talking about those 14 pound walleye 15 pound while
1:16:15
it's the same thing the equivalent is just it's unbelievable i would love to hear if somebody catch you know a 10-pound largemouth and if you if so
1:16:22
where where would you think of largemouth ants i would i couldn't even guess at that one a 10-pound largemouth it was
1:16:28
gonna come from ontario what lake would it be out of i mean would it be out of a rice lake with all the food i don't think so
1:16:36
i don't think so i don't know i i can't see it happening i mean i i i the only the only place that
1:16:43
that has the potential of rearing an animal a largemouth that large you
1:16:49
know would be any of the great lakes great lakes tributaries but in our inland lakes i
1:16:55
i can't see it i really can't but hey you know uh before we get to the next question i
1:17:00
just want to address one that i just saw there mike from a gentleman who says he asks us
1:17:05
questions and we never answer there we go i asked the question he never answered i think you guys only answered questions
1:17:11
from guys you know now michael i can you verify what this man is saying
1:17:17
that's not true and it you know it's funny um that you brought this up i was literally just messaging jordan
1:17:22
and i was telling him ron i was telling him to message on youtube and encourage ron
1:17:30
uh to ask his question again because sometimes what happens is uh the queue only lasts so long
1:17:37
so if we don't get to a question fast enough they disappear forever and uh so ron i i tried to find
1:17:44
your question and i i couldn't find it so it may have been that it was just a while ago uh but yeah we definitely
1:17:50
don't just answer questions from particular people in fact uh you people who ask multiple questions
1:17:58
probably notice that they typically only get one answered at at best because i try my best uh to
1:18:06
spread spread the love uh so ron i i apologize personally that was me if i if i missed
1:18:12
your question uh please ask it again uh and when i see it come up i'll make sure it gets uh put on the
1:18:19
screen there you go thank you thanks for bailing us out michael oh you know what i take it all back i take it all back
1:18:27
ron we did answer your question it was the first one i put up on the
1:18:33
screen right here on shame on you you must have left your seat
1:18:39
you must have been in the bathroom we've got to do it and you're going to have to watch tomorrow
1:18:46
because they answered this question all right thank you michael michael there you go
1:18:53
ronnie don't let don't mess with mikey we've learned that a long time ago ron you do know oh boy okay hell has no fury
1:19:01
than a michael scorned i'll tell you right now and you guys if you guys fish the
1:19:06
pickerel river near port loring we've driven over it a million times
1:19:12
right yeah we did fish at hands it was part of it uh uh uh uh uh uh when you got that giant
1:19:19
walleye in october you're gonna eat eight and a half pound walleye that was part of the nickel system it
1:19:25
wasn't the pickerel river but it's part of that system um it'll come to me that that part but
1:19:31
uh as well i i fished the pickerel at a at a time we were staying my family and
1:19:36
i were staying at grundy lake provincial park and i went down pickle river's right down the road from there so i did fish
1:19:42
uh the pickerel for bass and pike one time a long time ago but ang ants caught a giant like i mean an eight
1:19:49
nine pound wall out of the water like that was like a twenty eight and a half inch walleye i can't remember the the name of the place we were at there
1:19:55
was a town or something like that but we have fished it but it was unarmed you have to remind me i
1:20:00
can relive it all over again because i've completely forgotten
1:20:08
by the way ron says sorry i might have been on the phone sorry there you go i had a boy ron man
1:20:14
up that's that's good remember this the best part about this round is tomorrow like mike says you can
1:20:19
go watch it again and you're going to hear answer your question answered so there you go
1:20:24
uh where do we go what else can we go at do you guys use uh one brand of rod and
1:20:32
reel or do you mix it up great question uh we mix it up
1:20:37
i can tell you that right here uh our boat looks like the united nations of rods
1:20:44
rods are screwing all over the deck and you you're going to be hard-pressed to find two of them from the same manufacturer and the
1:20:51
reason being and i don't want to get into this the politics of the whole thing but i think i will because we're going to be
1:20:58
off for the next three or four weeks so i don't have to worry about having to explain myself um we are
1:21:04
one of the few maybe the only i'm going to see probably the only
1:21:12
fishing property certainly in canada maybe in parts of the us that are not
1:21:18
affiliated with a rod and reel manufacturer so what that enables us to do
1:21:26
is we can use the best of the best and each one of these manufacturers has
1:21:32
strengths and weaknesses they do certain things better than others
1:21:37
we're fortunate enough to be in a position where we can pick the lines and i'm not kidding you
1:21:44
and pete you correct me if i'm wrong but i you're going to be hard-pressed to find two of the same brand rods in our bow
1:21:51
for the simple reason that we're using the best of the best from each one of them and that's a huge bonus for us having
1:21:58
said all of that you're saying yourself well well how come you guys aren't with
1:22:03
anybody and and whatnot well we spent 20 years with rods and reels
1:22:09
uh shimano was was our very first partner as a matter of fact next to mercury marines shimano
1:22:15
uh rods and reels were were our partners for for good lord i think 20 years pete 15
1:22:21
20 years something like a long been there done that and fortunately for
1:22:28
us we were able to circumvent that because what happens when you get tied up to one
1:22:35
um one rod and reel or even one tackle company is that you're limited
1:22:41
you're limited to to their products and so we're fortunate we're very very lucky uh that we having said
1:22:48
that they're all great they all have their strengths as i told you before they're fantastic products uh but they all do
1:22:56
definitely specialize in their own little uh the good thing about it is the technology is getting better and better
1:23:02
all the time it really is getting better and better all the time so there's a bonus for all of us that
1:23:08
angle right so okay what else you got there michael
1:23:15
have you guys ever fished the grass river in manitoba no i i i i i i i'm not going
1:23:21
to say no right away because i believe it doesn't think we've already done that it does have a familiarity
1:23:28
um maybe you can put a point as to where what area is in or am i thinking grassy lake
1:23:35
manitoba i don't know i i honestly i i'm not
1:23:41
prepared to uh throw it out the window at this point uh we might have but i there's something
1:23:47
about grass in manitoba that i just can't quite recall
1:23:53
uh josh summerville any luck catching fish on sturgeon lake uh was there
1:23:58
in summer and no luck hey you're about the tenth person that i've talked to that fish sturgeon this year that didn't have luck
1:24:05
on that lady that's funny i must have because uh one of our past guests here chris hawkley speaking of uh uh run real
1:24:12
manufacturer and baker from her pala chris said he had a great year on steroids yeah i don't know
1:24:18
big walleye and and et cetera et cetera so it's funny i guess maybe it's a locational thing or
1:24:23
something like that i haven't i haven't finished sturgeon in years now at least three years at least i
1:24:29
it's a great walleye fishery and uh it used to be a really good largemouth bass fishery
1:24:36
but was not getting hammered for bass at all but it was fantastic down at the lower end and that shallows before it
1:24:42
dumps into the river or something like that sometimes called gooseberry i think goose bay was fantastic
1:24:49
had one of the best spinnerbait bites on the planet going for a few years white spinnerbaits you could just throw
1:24:55
them around there at will and and now they weren't giant fish by any means but your typical kawarthas largemouth
1:25:01
you know if you got a three and a half pounder that was a big fish but tons tons of them so
1:25:08
there's a there's a little piece in the grass river mikey you maybe throw it up from ronnie pratt yeah grass river important waterway in
1:25:16
the hudson bay drainage basin in the northern region of manitoba canada it begins at the cranberry lake
1:25:22
surprise cranberry we have fish for sure approximately 27 kilometers east of cranberry portage and runs northeast 500
1:25:30
kilometers to its mouth on the nelson river so it's a big that's a big river yeah i'm gonna i'm
1:25:36
gonna guess that we have um we did we used to do a lot in manitoba like a lot
1:25:42
and i'm going to guess that we have i mean great waters to fish in that province
1:25:47
yeah we fished flintland quite a bit back in the day so yeah yeah i wouldn't doubt it did that we
1:25:54
can't remember right that's that's sad
1:26:00
do you prefer freshwater saltwater canada wow um
1:26:07
by the very nature of of the geography uh we're exposed to an awful lot more
1:26:13
freshwater uh opportunities than salt but um boy it's pretty hard to
1:26:21
not get excited about going out to the east coast and and chasing down you know schools of of tuna
1:26:28
or stripers in the mirror machine uh you know it's it's pretty tough not to like that
1:26:34
but i'd be a that'd be a hard one you know i i really i really um personally
1:26:43
yeah more fresh water for sure no doubt about it no that's our situation where we live so
1:26:51
lake and says but when you get out like i did a a trip this coming two years ago last year to the
1:26:56
reversing falls in in in on the east coast and it was the most
1:27:02
unique i didn't even catch a fish there but it was the most unique fishing i did for half a day it was freaky it was salt
1:27:08
water because it was coming in from the ocean going up river it's supposed to be coming out sort of reverse whatever just it was just the whole environment
1:27:14
was just so cool you know what i mean and the fact that the fish are so big out in the salt water and they fight
1:27:19
they do fight better than freshwater fish okay there's no doubt about it any saltwater fish that i've ever caught
1:27:25
it's like oh my god these fish on steroids compared to our fish this is they're all smallmouth bass and plus you
1:27:31
know what i mean so but it's just weird and i are so close to you know to all this fresh water
1:27:36
right around i mean we look ups right there and then everything north of us is just crazy so so we're spoiled to fresh water i guess
1:27:43
the next fish i have on my line will be my favorite i'll guarantee you how's that i hope you get a mud puppy
1:27:59
uh i saw one uh mikey what about georgian bay for pike uh
1:28:05
what is your favorite spring spot on g bay i don't know ryan if you've ever fished out of uh
1:28:12
point of barrel in that area where there's a place well the actual the the town of point a barrel
1:28:18
yeah all the docks and everything around there is a very good spring pike believe it or not it's a river mouth right there
1:28:24
but the other place if you're here or you ask around there it's hard to get to it's called mud channel and i'm telling you what if you're gonna
1:28:30
get to big pike in georgia bay in the spring it's called mud channel i don't know how to get there
1:28:36
because i haven't been there in years and i know i had to follow some of you guys we went through every friggin island and rock and all that [ __ ] that was out there that
1:28:43
was captain mike yeah y'all better keep up with me don't get too far behind it stays
1:28:49
great mass that's all he said to me and i swear it was the most scary boat ride ever but i had the princecraft with us
1:28:55
and i'm thinking this is not my boat this is our work boat and i'm gonna smash it and when we got in there it was like oh my god it was good fishing so
1:29:02
so mud channel or the point of barrel uh harbor is very good in spring
1:29:11
what else we got michael you're falling asleep on me
1:29:19
what's your favorite fish for you canada wow that's pretty much this the same question we had there you go
1:29:25
take that then yeah that's a tough one that's you can't
1:29:30
we can't answer that that's that's be almost impossible to every bit of it is fantastic and and
1:29:36
we don't take any of it for granted let me tell you we uh it is much as much as we probably
1:29:41
spent as much time on the water fishing in this country as anybody else i i can honestly say between pete and i
1:29:46
there isn't a single day that we we don't pitch ourselves and say man are we ever lucky we we take none of it for
1:29:52
granted every time out is a brand new experience and the most enjoyable experience
1:29:57
and the next time is the same thing and uh it's yeah we have our favorite species
1:30:02
as we talked about earlier on but but in terms of fishing in this country how can you have a bad experience good
1:30:09
god just getting out there and doing it it's we're so fortunate we're so blessed yes yeah yeah
1:30:15
again gary white's got a good one there mike just came up yeah this is a one that we've talked about a
1:30:22
lot and then we're gonna go on an online market for apparel you'll have to buy a hat and a shirt and all that kind of
1:30:28
stuff so you could say we're we're virgins
1:30:33
when it comes to that stuff right so it'll be such a big deal when it happens it'll be monumental
1:30:39
it's all i can tell you yeah you know you're right it's it's an iconic brand
1:30:44
those are hats behind angelo you see that logo up there it's uh you know what i mean a lot of people like that stuff so i'll tell you
1:30:51
you know what our philosophy has been through the years with with that brand is that uh we use we give it away
1:30:57
i know it's kind of weird because everybody uses as a profit center um
1:31:02
every year we give away thousands of fishing canada hats at live events now obviously this year
1:31:09
there were no live events so this year not so much but uh usually when we're doing a live event
1:31:16
we give away those hats that are behind us and we give away thousands of them as
1:31:21
opposed to selling thousands of them but it's just been our philosophy uh from day one that's all we've
1:31:27
kind of ever really done i realize it's a lost opportunity trust me as a an
1:31:33
entrepreneur and a businessman i i look at that every day uh but you know we made that decision years ago and we
1:31:39
haven't strayed away from it however having said that with e-commerce being what it is and we
1:31:45
get asked so often uh about this stuff i i'm gonna
1:31:51
tell you that we probably are not too far removed from opening up um fishing canada retail
1:32:00
rob rob says give a hat with the boat i like that we can do that we'll do it rob
1:32:06
tell you what rob you win that boat and i'll give you a dozen hats how's that oh there you go buddy
1:32:15
yeah we we need to and i'll tell you why because in order we need to expand uh our base and the
1:32:21
way to do it is to to have people uh get connected more with their brand and
1:32:28
one of the best ways to do it is to allow people to to access it more and by that i mean wearing it more
1:32:34
so yeah we we we definitely will we'll be doing that a lot of things are
1:32:40
coming up it's a new world we live in just uh we're planning on being around
1:32:45
for another 50 or 60 years or so that's what we're going to sound like but yeah after that foot of yours cured up you
1:32:51
thought hey that's it okay i'm good to go now kick butt now
1:32:57
how about yeah we'll we'll get you some hats don't you worry uh well yeah we'll get everything going
1:33:03
in there for sure about that i saw one i saw one sorry mike i'm gonna
1:33:08
go back you guys somebody should get a hat for stomping the chumps
1:33:15
uh new brunswick we're gonna we're gonna get back to new brunswick don't worry it's just gonna be a while for that one
1:33:21
obviously you guys won't let us in i come down here tomorrow but you got the gate locked you got a big padlock on it you won't
1:33:27
let me in you know i wanted him back uh uh calvin very quickly have you ever
1:33:34
fished the manitoulin island lakes yes uh i did one trip late later in my life ange and mike went up
1:33:41
and he's got a great story i'll tell you my little story about i was the best fishing guide ever on the
1:33:46
story my cousin has a cottage on two cousins side-by-side cottages on the lake and uh
1:33:52
i can't remember the name of the lake but i took his two sons so my cousin's sons
1:33:57
whatever you call that and nephew of some type i don't know how that works but and my youngest son a small mole fish fishing one day and we
1:34:04
went over to this point i'll make this story quick the one the youngest of the two uh
1:34:10
brothers cast out and had about a three and a half pound small mouth on and i thought right on buddy really man
1:34:15
i look behind it and there's this giant following that one so the other son i say okay cast over
1:34:20
there he tries to cast he misses it no no he'll give you a round i took his rod threw the cast out before it even hit the water hand on the rod
1:34:27
sets the hook the kick is a three and a half pounder the one kid the bigger fish was six and a quarter pounds okay six
1:34:33
and a quarter pound small month for a kid okay this is that fish will never be exceeded in his life
1:34:40
long story short again we're getting we fist the rest of the lake nothing's happening my son cole who's really young
1:34:45
doesn't have a fish yet in the whole of the whole day these two guys are killing them so they're loving these giant fish we get back to the
1:34:51
cottage that i'm staying at the swim raft is sitting out front of this on the on the lake and i said call here give me a ride and
1:34:58
i threw a senko to the swimwrath here let it go and i started to swim and i could watch this line i said call
1:35:04
pull hard he got a six pound smallmouth on that cast we had two over six with these kids in
1:35:11
the same morning that we went out it was ridiculous so many tool and islands and i've only fished a couple of lakes it's got some great fishing on it so
1:35:18
do you want to tell your story it's pretty good first i just want to address uh russell
1:35:25
uh jonathan makes a great point about you know maybe what we should do is promote
1:35:30
uh we could sell uh the fishing canada brand products and promote fisheries in canada
1:35:36
and use a portion of money to help with development of positive fishing russell i'd like you to if you could
1:35:42
send us an email uh detailing what what you're thinking about that because i i like i like the direction you're going
1:35:48
so uh send us an email if you would mind at info at fishing canada um or angelo and
1:35:56
fishing canada whatever whatever you would prefer um oh so my story of manitoba lines i was
1:36:02
fishing with uh it was the first year that we had brought on mike miller who was a co-host with us
1:36:08
for a few years and mike and i went up to uh to fish it and we were after
1:36:13
giant pike i can't remember what time of year it was but really it's not important other than the
1:36:19
fact to say that it was not the perfect pike right we went sort of in the off season
1:36:26
when they were scattered um they weren't uh you know as easy to find or or catch and um where we were staying
1:36:34
there was a native community that was running um like a guiding service type of thing and
1:36:40
so they they asked us if we would mind promoting them and we said sure
1:36:46
we can do something um because they said we can we can certainly tell you where all the fish are in fact
1:36:52
we can have one of our members go out uh with you in his boat and he can go out ahead and
1:36:58
sort of pre-scout the areas where the fish normally are and he can let you know you know whether
1:37:05
they're there or not and see because it's such a bass body well anyways he said you know so so you can save time because i think we only had
1:37:10
two days to fish or one day even and so you know he can go ahead and kind of let you know
1:37:16
uh where they are uh because this time of year he says they're really scattered and and
1:37:22
you're gonna find one fish here you know then then you're gonna have to go two or three miles and find another
1:37:27
fish there and he can go and check them out and make sure that they're there for you
1:37:33
duh i was born at night and of course i'm in for that you know
1:37:39
bring it on so that morning we meet up at the dock and then and clarence or whatever his name was i
1:37:46
can't remember he that we talked and we said yeah yeah he says i'll go ahead and i'm going to scout them for you
1:37:52
and if there's no fish in the area i'll just let you know but if they're they're there i'll just tell you they're
1:37:57
there hey good so off we go and uh we're fishing in an
1:38:04
area and all of a sudden uh he comes back you know runs the boat back and and comes over he says yeah yeah he says
1:38:11
yeah that that second spot i was telling you about this morning uh they're in there they're in there you
1:38:17
need to go there oh sure you know we packed up what we were doing and off we go
1:38:22
that we that weed point that he was talking about and we cast and we cast and we cast and we cast and we look and we cast
1:38:29
and there's nothing there so we move on start going off on our own and then you know
1:38:34
an hour or two later he comes running back he says how'd you make out well we didn't make our name there was
1:38:40
nothing there oh huh they were there okay anyways so off he goes and a little
1:38:47
later on he comes over he says hey yeah yeah yeah they're over on that uh you know that uh shoal i told you about over
1:38:53
there and yeah they're in there okay off we go we go in there nothing not even a sniff
1:39:01
the end of the day we come back and uh we're tied up to the dock and and you
1:39:07
know we're we're kind of licking our wounds and within a couple of minutes so clarence
1:39:12
comes running back to the dock and ties up beside us and him and his
1:39:17
couple of buddies that were on the dock they jumped in his boat and they helped them pick up this i swear this
1:39:23
this cooler looked like a coffin like a white coffin imagine a white coffin anyways there was like four or five of
1:39:30
them they pulled this white coffin out of clarence's boat and plopped it on the dock and opened up
1:39:35
the lid of this coffin and it was the biggest pike massacre i
1:39:42
had ever seen in my life in this coffin i've never seen so much
1:39:48
carnage in one confined area than that coffin lord or clarence
1:39:54
picks one of them up that was about you know a 45 46 inch or a huge bite bleeding you know
1:40:00
he picks up says says that's that's the one i told you at that first point
1:40:05
where you were gonna go and we looked at him like so what he had done he got ahead of us
1:40:11
and he basically vacuumed every single pike that was in those points that he was telling us he caught them all and put him in his
1:40:18
cooler and then came back and told yeah they're in there oh my god oh my god
1:40:26
i'd love to have heard yours and miller's watch you guys watch your guys faces when that cooler opened up i would
1:40:31
just have died to see that that would have been so good you know i've never seen anything like it in my life
1:40:37
we wasted the whole day following money right after he raped and pillaged every
1:40:43
single one of the points that he told us that they were holding fish oh my god anyway i i don't mean to
1:40:50
bad-mouth anybody but that's that's my story for manitoba
1:40:56
now you know who goes there quite often is the uh the former minister of natural tour uh
1:41:02
tourism not natural tourism uh t-below michael uh he goes every couple of weeks
1:41:08
yeah i think potential i mean like that trip i did it i only hit about two or three lakes
1:41:14
um but every one of them was and there's a lot of fishing and then there's got the course the channel and all that which i
1:41:20
think you guys were fishing although i mean so there's a potential there for a lot of uh minimoya
1:41:25
there's some big some big uh walleye in some of those lakes too i think i believe there's a quinty strain
1:41:31
that's been brought up in one of the big lakes up there too this whoa yeah so from what i've heard wouldn't
1:41:38
that be cool yep uh what do we got here michael i think
1:41:44
we're winding down any ass fishing in northwest bc
1:41:50
how far up bc are they found north north west uh can't i can't answer that
1:41:57
i don't know whether pete you know anything more concrete well i i i will say tim i like your logo beside your
1:42:02
your name though buddy i think yeah it's uh but show that logo again mikey just let everybody see that
1:42:08
does that mean anything to anybody else out there nobody knows that that does that angie don't know what that is i should
1:42:14
because you're going to tell me it's some kind of head banging uh loud
1:42:20
you call it music i call it noise it's related to something like that right it's it's this is called frankenstein
1:42:27
tim you rock buddy this is frankenstein that's all it is right there finally with that tim knows what i'm
1:42:32
talking about it's a big old freaking site no it's eddie van halen's got paint job
1:42:37
on his guitar he created a guitar that made it world famous so the
1:42:43
frankenstein frankenstein um i don't know how far north they go they uh i mean obviously vancouver
1:42:48
island is full of largemouth well not full of ours full of smallmouth and some largemouth as you go to the warmer parts of the of
1:42:56
the province osoyos etc there's lots of bass in that and uh in that area but i don't know how far
1:43:02
they uh north they go but so sorry about that
1:43:08
all kinds of interesting reuben kincaid got it that boy stevie uh some people are getting it
1:43:14
frankie stratt tom knows it hey hey we got some rockers i was gonna try and hope you know what i
