One of Canada's longest-running fishing shows, Fish'n Canada travels from coast to coast in search of fishing opportunities. First started by brothers Angelo and Reno Viola in 1986, The Fish’n Canada Show has been on the air for over 30 years. Today, Angelo is joined by lifelong fishing buddy, Peter Bowman, and the pair continue to travel across Canada educating anglers using the experience they’ve gained over the years. #Fishing

0:09
taking you to Pigeon Lake in the heart
0:11
of the Cortez our attention will be
0:12
focused on a fall musky trolling pattern
0:14
that will have us fishing break lines
0:16
adjacent to areas are still have a good
0:18
green weed growth we've got some great
0:20
muskie action to show you so stay tuned
0:23
we'll be back in one minute
0:30
welcome to Fisher Canada folks guess
0:32
what we're gonna be fishing for today
0:33
that's what the bait we're gonna be
0:35
using wooden plugs wooden plugs you got
0:38
it that's the bait we're going to be
0:40
using for them of course we're gonna
0:41
doing some muskie fishing today and to
0:43
help us we're gonna do something a
0:45
little bit different you've seen us
0:46
fishing off of bass boats and aluminum
0:48
fishing boats today we thought we'd do
0:51
something just a little bit different a
0:52
good friend of ours rick lyons invited
0:55
us up to fish off of one of his
0:57
houseboats i'm going to give that a
0:59
whirl today the people standing beside
1:02
me
1:03
Rick Lyons Jack Williamson you've seen
1:06
him on the show before and Steve smart
1:10
and the other little character on the
1:12
end there we're gonna meet up with some
1:15
friends of ours Cecil ray and Jerry
1:18
cherish they've gone on further ahead
1:20
I'm gonna meet up with them in about a
1:22
half an hour to an hour and we're gonna
1:23
be muskie fishing like angela was
1:25
explaining we're gonna be using a couple
1:27
of different techniques we're gonna be
1:28
using some trolling techniques and some
1:30
casting techniques
1:31
thanks East we'll be doing most of the
1:32
casting out of his boat he's still he's
1:35
gonna go out in his bass boat any worm
1:37
as well so will we do most of trolling
1:38
out for the houseboat and he's gonna try
1:40
and cast some shorelines and we'll see
1:42
which one works best I know we can catch
1:44
fish out of a houseboat I'm almost
1:45
positive that we can I know we can let's
1:47
give her a whirl you ready guys let's do
1:50
it
1:52
you
1:56

[Applause]
2:01
it was a chilly November morning on
2:04
pigeon Lake in the courses and the
2:06
overcast conditions told us that it was
2:08
a perfect day for this serious muskie
2:10
fishermen after casting shoreline
2:12
structure for the early part of the
2:13
morning without any success Cecil and
2:16
Jerry decided to change tactics and join
2:18
us in our trolling pattern they caught
2:20
up with us and we took the opportunity
2:21
to discuss strategy with them elite
2:29
minimum 12 to 15 feet you know what this
2:33
is fun I'll tell you what this is fun
2:34
this is from fishing deep and hitting
2:36
the bottom my mom was pumping my off the
2:38
bottom she look bluer you can tell I'm
2:41
working deep cuz I'm wearing all the
2:42
paint right off after smashing into the
2:44
rocks
2:47
let's see they're down about 15 feet but
2:52
what a lot of them will do is and these
2:54
tight breaks so the breaks they'll come
2:55
out if it breaks at 12 feet or 15 feet
2:58
sometimes you get the fish suspending it
3:00
about 15 feet down off those breaks and
3:02
they can be a quarter of a mile older
3:04
they can be farther out but in the fall
3:07
like now when you look the shoreline
3:09
because it's getting cold and the fish
3:10
is starting to bunch up or the wallet
3:12
they're starting to punch up the monkeys
3:13
gonna start moving to or holding those
3:15
brakes tight or is it and they're gonna
3:17
be feeding on those wallets now if I was
3:18
fishing this in the summertime I might
3:20
move way out and fish open water where
3:22
they're suspended put in but this time
3:25
you're gonna just act like a funnel all
3:27
those pipe breaks they're just gonna
3:29
suck every muskie in the lake onto those
3:30
breaks
3:31
Cecil ray has been a member of Muskies
3:33
Canada since its inception so we decided
3:36
to pay close attention to what he said
3:38
with our plugs hitting bottom it wasn't
3:41
long before we connected with a scrappy
3:42
fall muskie last week I was fishing here
3:45
and I got into a 2500
3:47
this point same place and please
3:55
all right that's almost like a log it's
4:13
like deep-sea fishing yeah unless the
4:27
boats go back first all I got a boat
4:34
come on break some water gonna look at
4:37
them oh the dirty job but somebody's
4:59
gotta do it
4:59
oh well get pots up a little shark
5:09
[Laughter]
5:11
[Music]
5:19
no I hope it's not the tree guy there's
5:26
a nice fish I got it right on the bar I
6:09
wouldn't want to get one let's figure
6:10
that I can handle them today there he is
6:19
boy he's well hooked anyway whoa whoa
6:23
easy not ready yet that third is that
6:26
ready look at the way they tangle up on
6:28
that line go there come on baby oh I
6:33
think we're gonna get off that one you
6:37
spent the first Hulk anyway look
6:44
is he in there check if we're gonna grab
6:48
him grab behind the neck he's got to
6:49
come in I think he's on there pretty
7:00
very good okay what that believers made
7:04
a believer out of me I'm worried about
7:09
it kills themselves
7:16
a little bit down
7:21
[Music]
7:30
[Music]
7:49
we just lost a quarter each good Allah
8:05
was the first time we've tried trolling
8:07
for muskie from a boat as large as this
8:09
it won't be our last the rear deck area
8:12
of the boat was large enough to
8:13
accommodate four fishermen and a film
8:15
crew and even with that many lines off
8:17
the back of the same boat there were
8:18
none of the follow-ups that we've
8:19
expected and you know when it got cold
8:21
and miserable out there there was that
8:23
hot cup of coffee waiting inside for you
8:26
[Music]
8:31
you know it's just one of those fun
8:33
trips all the way around it sure was
8:35
and we had a lot of fun with the fishing
8:36
that day too besides boating and
8:38
releasing the one muskie we hooked into
8:40
three others that we couldn't quite get
8:42
in but they gave us some exciting
8:44
moments
8:45
[Music]
8:50
while heading back to the dock she also
8:52
found Cecil and Jerry again just in time
8:55
to watch them hold a good-sized muskie
9:02
yeah they must have been cast and I've
9:13
upload
9:31
[Music]
9:34
good
9:36
[Music]
9:48
like that that's what he's counting on
9:51
you had such a good time why don't we do
9:53
it again tomorrow hey you don't have to
9:55
push my heart convert it over here great
10:03
let's do it again tomorrow
10:05
well why don't we stay tuned for more
10:07
efficient candidates the houseboat
10:16
we've done a few things differently the
10:18
neighbors I guess we're going deluxe
10:20
there got all the toys Reno and Jerry
10:25
weren't able to join us today so this
10:27
will be four of us fishing off the back
10:29
of the boat and I would have to say guys
10:34
that today is a better day than us all
10:38
sorry muskie fishing goes an overcast
10:40
day like today that this will be up and
10:41
active it's it should be you'll notice
10:43
Cecil is on the boat with us take your
10:46
rubber he was out on this bass boat
10:48
yesterday we were filming as he wasn't
10:50
quite convinced that you can catch
10:52
muskie off the back of a houseboat
11:08
in addition to occasionally checking
11:10
your line for necks sharpening your
11:12
hooks regularly is a must when tangling
11:14
with these two three predators once your
11:19
gear is ready
11:20
finding the right pattern will greatly
11:22
increase your odds of boating a foul
11:23
musky there's a shoreline on our right
11:26
side here overdue it's a flat up to the
11:31
shoreline we're talking point eight nine
11:33
or eight feet
11:34
drop off right now we're Colette's go
11:53
[Music]
12:06
[Music]
12:15
[Music]
12:26
want to bring em up throw them on the
12:31
platform nervous eating at home on the
12:33
platform then we don't up to what we
12:34
want trade do tax here diggers I got uh
12:37
some things in my pocket though so we'll
12:40
open that help no doubt yeah it's
12:45
difficult getting attention
13:02
they want to go you want to call
13:54
[Music]
13:56
we are fishing frequent tip but a
14:01
12-foot drop offs from selling shells
14:04
this is a combination that area for
14:06
quite a lot of bait fish to then turn
14:08
your wallet late to the bait fish also
14:11
your muskie relate to the wallets what
14:13
we're doing complying mean weed on these
14:15
plots
14:18
a lot better getting
14:21
yes that's what we're looking for a
14:23
cabbage we this is poorly cabbage by the
14:26
way I'm starting to die though
14:40
don't see it
15:00
yeah that's pretty good doesn't that
15:05
target one thing about fall vision
15:09
though you all kind of wildlife up there
15:22
stay tuned for more efficient Canada
15:33
because of the size and action of
15:34
conventional musculars and a higher
15:36
choice we've associated requested the
15:38
rod keep our usual amount of string this
15:41
is no place for lightweight bride so
15:42
make sure that your equipment is heavy
15:44
enough to take the punishment
15:49
the action of your lure should be
15:51
clearly visible on your rod template if
15:54
your tip stops vibrating it's usually an
15:56
indication that your plug has fouled up
15:57
you can check this by gently pulling on
16:00
your line to feel for proper action
16:05
oh you know when they
17:07
[Music]
17:38
I think we fell in a shoreline
17:41
Nancy taught this is where I got that
17:50
running on the North Shore of Pigeon
17:53
Lake skirting a shelf in about 18 feet
17:58
of water and we're cruising at
18:00
approximately 1700 rpm and that's that's
18:04
been our best speed all day for picking
18:05
up muskie
18:59
really
19:52
on today's conservation corner we're
19:55
going to show you how to properly live
19:57
release on musky because trophy musky
20:01
fishing is one of the most popular types
20:03
of fishing in any area that's Tara found
20:04
these price fighters are under constant
20:07
fishing pressure here at fishing Canada
20:09
we feel that it's important to give any
20:11
muskie that you're not going to hang on
20:12
the wall another chance to fight
20:16
whenever possible release muskie beside
20:19
the boat in the water
20:21
if hooks are deeply embedded just cut
20:23
the hook off eventually the fish's own
20:25
acid will dissolve it always exercise
20:27
caution when removing hooks from one of
20:30
these freshwater barracudas the
20:31
needle-like teeth of a muskie and the
20:33
sharp treble hooks make a potent recipe
20:36
for disaster if you're not very careful
20:41
[Music]
20:43
most of all be patient and don't rush in
20:46
releasing your fish after his fights of
20:48
the boat a musky each time to stabilize
20:50
a large amount of lactic acid he has
20:52
built up in his muscles
20:55
[Music]
21:00
just hold the fish up right in the water
21:03
and gently pass water through his gills
21:05
he'll tell you when he's ready to go
21:10
[Music]
21:21
[Applause]
21:24
[Music]
21:29
you
