1:40
reasons not the least of which that it's very B very good we have B man here the good man we have the good
1:47
man by the way over there is uh baa uh over there's Dean and somewhere over there is Nick we're not quite sure where
1:54
Nick is did anybody see I saw him this morning he was in oh he was in yeah yeah
2:00
he was diligently working away until you came in soon as you came in he wow maybe
2:05
it's me then maybe I'm the problem dude that's weird because usually when the boss comes in everybody goes to work
2:11
like the rest of us are just sitting around doing nothing and then when you get in we get do more nothing when they get here in other words I don't affect
2:18
you at all right but I like Nick's I like this way of approach Nick just gets to hell out here if he doesn't see me he
2:26
won't know that I'm not working heon give me [ __ ] he can't give me [ __ ] but you guys like you don't care you just do
2:31
more of the same we just take [ __ ] we don't care all right yeah I say quite the system we got here Productions um
2:39
before we get on to oh by the way I want to welcome a brand new sponsor to the
2:44
show give me a hell yeah hell yeah and I believe also a network sponsor I could
2:49
be wrong with that but it doesn't matter whether I'm right or wrong it's a big deal really it's a big deal uh J&B cycle
2:56
and Marine woohoo give me a hell yeah uh by the way they're the large I did not
3:01
know this but now I do know they are the largest Princecraft and Mercury dealer
3:08
in Ontario in this part of the world and that's signant a that is very significant pretty pretty awesome um
3:15
also Freedom Cruise Canada this is an exciting product and we're going to talk
3:21
about that a little later on in the show in fact towards the end of the show we are once again maybe Dean can correct me
3:28
on this but do we not have big contest announcement huge contest the biggest of the Year biggest of the year of the year
3:35
and it's all because of J&B cycle Mercury Marine Freedom crws like all of these wonderful people that have joined
3:41
the team and uh they're going to put on a hell of a contest I'm telling you
3:47
you want to be involved in this one this is one that I you know how we always joke about saying gez too bad can we win
3:53
it you know all that we get this one I wouldn't be kidding I would love to get involved in winning it but I won't
4:00
and at the end we're going to have a bonus code for some entries oh in this episode in this episode if you listen
4:06
along I'm not going to tell you when but it'll be in there perfect so we're going to slide that in somewhere to to those
4:12
Skippers that have to listen a little bit right yep thank you uh Skippers
4:17
Skippers I like that like to Skip Along they're not right boat stiff neck this morning what's going what is going on
4:23
there you're looking at little Franken St it is Halloween today I don't know if we can put that on this podcast but it is Halloween that we're must got draft
4:30
or something fren draft cold draft I could use one of those right now cold
4:36
draft thank you okay I'll take a bottle I don't care a bottle of beer it doesn't matter we're
4:42
going to have one so uh before we get on with the meat of the show which very
4:51
this is totally different I just want to remind folks about fishing canada.com the Gateway the portal in case you have
4:57
forgotten uh to your next fishing adventure and it doesn't have to be real it could be virtual because at fishing
5:04
canada.com you can do all those things there's howtos there's great stories there's a little bit of everything
5:10
including the news of course and contest page of course and and and and and by
5:16
the way I have to be remiss if I didn't mention uh new and improved
5:21
functionality on the site the speed working a lot better now is oh my God the speed is you know when we're
5:28
complaining about our own website you know there's a problem so slow right so we got her fixed up pretty good now
5:34
she's fixed up real fast yes sir you go check it out fishing canada.com it's
5:39
called and then can go to shop. fishing canada.com as well if they want to purchase some these nice little outfits
5:44
that we have on so you that in keeping with that I do want to mention I'm not sure when this actually airs but there
5:52
uh there are some new products that are uh being uh unveiled for the first time
5:58
wow I don't know whether they're there yet but I can tell you they are in keeping with this theme the new fishing
6:05
Canada look uh hoodie with the species uh you'll see that right now we
6:11
have largemouth bass walleye and uh musky uh coming up well they're already
6:18
not coming up I don't they might be there as we speak is uh speckled trout
6:23
woo rainbow trout and oh my God they're beautiful and uh and shanuk salmon are
6:29
they are they like these aren't really full color is that would that Brook Trout speckled trout would it be in full
6:35
color do you think or is it going to be kind of uh they're going to be more uh well you say these aren't full colored
6:41
what do you mean well they don't I mean they look pretty much the same they look all green to me but maybe that's the monitor you know what I mean well it
6:46
could be the monitor but the Artistry involved in in this is I'm asking
6:52
because you know if you get a full colored Brookie on there damn Almighty that's going to be one Brookie is more colorful than a
6:59
walleye than a bass I would imagine that the Brookie and the rainbow would be much
7:06
more colorful sh maybe not it might be good I'm hoping so a brown shanuk it's big spawned out
7:13
shinuk yeah one big dark one that's what I was
7:18
laying there half rotten away that'd be a nice image to how many you going to sell them man a few I'm hoping your your
7:26
next raise will depend on it so let's let's pray together how's that let's pray together all right that's all at uh
7:35
shop. fishing canada.com heck yeah even our friends are going there I just had a buddy that
7:40
went there the other day too so it's good we're having they're enjoying the product everybody's enjoying the product
7:45
there's some good stuff there I love these hoodies I love those hoodies but I also love the traditional fishing Canada log good hoodies by the way the new the
7:53
new an improved version of those hoodies will also be on the site soon if it's
7:58
not already up so making them better uh I think they they improved them um
8:05
there were a couple of issues uh in terms of the Stitch count so they've gone and I don't remember the numbers
8:11
but if the Stitch count was 10,000 on the logo now it's 15,000 so they've
8:17
tightened up they made a little more detail and the logo is actually larger
8:22
by an inch so you won't really notice that part uh the Garment itself is still
8:27
the same pre-wash that nice hand hoodie probably the nicest hoodie in terms of
8:34
the feel nicest hoodie on you throw that sucker on you can put that on without a t-shirt on right just put it on bare
8:40
chest it she feels real good I like that I do that a lot do you rub right against me it's oh on the treadmill and and with
8:48
the logo cuz you can feel and it's you can touch the logo and touch and feel you're a kinky bastard aren't you come
8:54
on now uh we better move on all right so that's all at at the store now about
9:01
this episode that we're about to unveil um so it all took place a few
9:07
weeks ago when we had the the pleasure and the honor of of being in New Brunswick uh covering the uh
9:16
Pan-American black bass competition that was there it's it's a wonderful event
9:21
and we were covering it uh as the fishing Canada show we actually shot it a couple of episodes that will be airing
9:28
in the uh 2025 broadcast come on now yeah going to be interesting it's going to be a cool show and show aside from
9:35
having some wonderful teams there because there was teams from all over uh the Western Hemisphere well in in the
9:41
case of china they were not from this hemisphere but they were there for other reasons
9:48
regardless it doesn't matter they were there there was teams from everywhere and uh we we did interviews and stuff
9:55
but uh some of the members were of the teams were pretty special people to us because we we've known them for years
10:02
and it was kind of nice that they were representing their countries including ours and so we thought we would take a a
10:09
moment of their time they were gracious enough to give it to us and do interviews for uh of them that we would
10:15
put on these podcasts we were going to do um we were going to do them live from
10:21
there but then we ran into some logistical issues that we couldn't because of the event being live etc etc
10:29
so here they are now on this episode and we're going to show you all four I
10:34
believe yep yeah we certainly are to show you all four of them big names of
10:40
different they're kind of the same caliber but a different you know maybe light or Styles just to be a name
10:46
dropper which I love being uh Bob isumi obviously everybody knows Bob uh legend
10:52
legend in the Canadian fishing industry also making a name for himself South of the Border through Tournament Fishing uh
10:59
uh the real fishing show was uh was the longest running show up until recently
11:05
uh he retired Bob retired about three seasons ago anyways uh we did catch up with him and did an interview a great
11:12
interview with Bob was so good in this whole trip that whole trip that was on and he was the captain of Team Canada
11:18
and how fitting is that absolutely you can't pick another better person than that uh Scott Marton uh whose lineage uh
11:26
is nothing short of royalty is most people who know them will agree his
11:32
father of course being the legend himself Roland Martin well Scott's gone on to make a career for himself in the
11:38
industry as well and some folks might even say has surpassed what Dad did hard to believe but regardless yeah he does
11:47
yeah in a way especially from a digital standpoint yeah he hasn't in the tournament standpoint but he has in
11:53
everything else pretty much right but anyway a great guy that we've known for a while he's part of the uh Team Garmin
12:00
uh folks that we work with so we get a chance to uh interact with Scott y so he
12:07
gave Team USA by the way he was he was captain of Team USA captain of Team USA so there's the two captains of uh of
12:13
north of yeah North America and um then we've got an interview with Gussy who's
12:19
been on this show a few times um um Jeff gipson of course who is the only
12:27
Canadian bass master classic Champion boy he did her good that year 2023 man
12:34
oh man that was fun watching that that was so exciting watch on that but anyways great interview with Gussy and then and we got cooper glant cooper
12:41
glant who was his partner in this event yeah which is kind of ironic but how
12:46
fitting was that so exactly four great interviews uh we're going to start off
12:52
with uh the bit of time that we spent uh with Canada's own Bob isumi I'm with
12:58
legendary Canadian fishing icon bab isumi who by the way told me he retired
13:04
a couple of years ago and here he is captain of Team C what the hell are you doing there's no retiring it was I
13:10
retired for my TV show and all right all right but but I'm still working my rear end off i' got you know maybe 11 12
13:17
companies I've got contracts with that I'm doing uh prize contests appearances
13:24
sales meetings Consulting different you're busier now than you were before in other words yeah cuz I got no staff
13:30
it's there's two eyes in a Zumi me and myself and uh and I'm a oneman show now
13:35
but what a great event here they've got going uh in New Brunswick with this
13:41
whole team Canada thing and the worlds and the PanAm and and it's so exciting
13:47
this reminds me of the old days when we started doing this whole tournament thing here in it's almost like come full
13:52
circle but now it's International in a big way and this could be out of all the
13:58
world championships and the pan Americans that Team Canada's been to the
14:03
best because we we've got a ton of countries fancy hotel here the Delta
14:08
hotel in frederickton there's uh all kinds of boats uh from Nova Scotia New
14:14
Brunswick and all over the marit that are helping out to take some of the International Teams like Mexico and that
14:19
Puerto Rico that don't have boats out um it's a lot of I think there's 50 some
14:25
odd teams here I know the logistics is mindblowing I first heard about this now
14:30
how many have you been involved in um I fished um the first one was in Florida then then the panaman in uh um okobe
14:41
then we did the world championships in uh Lake Murray I guess uh I guess three
14:46
three and Canada won one of these things in Mexico two we won we won the last Canadian PanAm in Cornwall that I that I
14:53
had organized and and we won by 01 of a pound oh that's like over it was like 10
15:01
and some odd pounds and and whatever it huge weight and uh 01 like that's just a
15:09
a a mo full of water for a fish it is and now and there was one happy team there and there was one unhappy team but
15:16
uh Team USA have won enough over the years they've won lots of pan Americans
15:21
and World Championships so they've since made up for it so fishing in other countries in this event and the reason
15:28
I'm asking this question because the audience might be thinking well it's an unfair Advantage I mean first of all
15:34
we've got legendary Canadian angler Fishing in Canadian Waters like what
15:39
chance do the other teams have but you have fished in their nations in their countries tell us about that is there an
15:47
advantage I wish I wish there was but you've got a couple of things happening
15:53
of course I live in Ontario we're in New Brun exactly but I did fish a tournament here back in the80s when I had you know
15:59
full head of hair and I was young and and we didn't have GPS mapping and none
16:05
of that stuff so so it was a long time ago but but I did a couple shows out here in the TV years and stuff in the
16:11
back in the 80s 90s but not really hardc fishing just get show done and then I'd
16:17
be on the road again I'd say that the I I would say that this is about as
16:24
close to fair for everybody because the fishing's Fairly good good here I mean
16:29
it's not fairly good it's really good there's lot of fish you guys have shot shows here fantastic it's easy to get a
16:36
show shot here because there's so many numbers right you want numbers you fish this way you want size you maybe try a
16:43
different technique but it doesn't matter you can get you can get numbers and size on probably we've got about
16:49
eight different patterns or techniques going with our team right now and so
16:54
when I grab some rods today I start grabbing and grabbing grabbing I need like 15 rods to take minimum because I'm
17:01
going to use all of them so there's a lot of things to do and makes it fair I think it's it's a Level Playing Field as
17:07
far as I'm concerned talking to some of the other teams um they they've got members on some of those teams that have
17:13
probably fished these Waters even more than some of our Canadian guys have right so right I mean Maine's not very
17:19
far away te USA has a guy from Maine but you know we've got some folks from this
17:25
province on our team and actually two from Nova Scotia which is ways away but
17:30
here here's the thing is you've got um great Anglers here from all the
17:36
countries and you've got phenomenal fishing it's going to be a riot oh my
17:41
God I can hardly wait to be Hest I'm just St pins and needles I have to ask you um now I'm dating us going back some
17:49
30 years plus ago you were the keenest tournament angler that this country has
17:54
ever seen for the one simple reason is that you were so so Keen you were so
18:00
competitive you you in your mind had won tournaments before anybody even showed
18:07
up the fishing do you still have that same drive you still have that same burning desire to beat everybody I do
18:13
but it's harder now and you know I I what is it yeah I've won like 70 or 80
18:19
tournaments and lots of bass boats and stuff and '90s were good ' 80s were
18:24
phenomenal '90s were phenomenal early 2000s were pretty good and it's slowly gotten tougher and tougher and tougher
18:31
I'll tell you why is you know as I get older I get a little more set my ways
18:37
and nowadays technology is so good both learning on YouTube and and you know on
18:44
demand learning as well as um you know of course forward facing sonar and all
18:51
the the you know Side Imaging and and uh and you know you can do everything now
18:57
and look around to see where the you still have to catch them right yeah but it but it it's fast cck the younger guys
19:03
could get really good so my goal this fall is to get glasses or laser so I can
19:11
be better than I am at forward facing cuz as that little bait drops on that big 16in screen I still you can't see it
19:19
I need to put either wear my reading glasses and put my graph this close on I
19:25
know let's see let's call it 5' 3 in pest still yeah because I'm you can't
19:31
you down s but I look kind of goofy speaking of
19:37
young competitive Anglers you've got one on your team you got a couple of them but one in particular uh Coupe uh who is
19:44
just lighting it on fire South of the Border talk to us about him W you got
19:49
Cooper Gant and then of course Jeff G who who won the BB does that get under
19:55
your skin a little bit no I it actually it makes me giggly because I knew Jeff
20:02
through gour piser when we did the radio show for like 30 plus years when he was like 12 or 13 years old I met him at
20:09
gourds and he'd hang around while we were there for the canor bass tournament then he got older and won the bass tournament when he was like 16 or 17 so
20:17
but but coup is is once again another one of these guys that I've watched over
20:23
the last bunch of years kick people's rear ends in tournaments in Ontario and then go down to the states and hey he's
20:30
won tournaments there too and he's going to continue to win that kid lives eats
20:36
Bree drinks fishing I mean he's hardcore he sleeps in his truck sometimes he he
20:42
is he a young baboomi well somebody at Mercury told me that the other day that that's what that reminded uh this person
20:49
of and and I think he's got more of a want because he's more focused than I
20:55
was cuz you know I was doing the TV and the radio similar to what all those years when I was and I still
21:02
compete a lot I mean I'm doing as many turns now as I did in the 90s 80s but I'm trying to be more focused but you
21:09
know in his case he's 100% focused he's so Keen he is soen I love his enthusiasm
21:16
such a nice guy you know and so so is gassi and you know we got two of the nicest full-time professional Anglers on
21:24
our team to complement all the other great Anglers on it so pretty good for
21:30
some of the young folks that are watching this right now who maybe aspire to be professional angers down the road
21:36
tell them what they need to do to be sitting in that chair well I I wish I would have taken Marketing in school uh
21:45
first or gone to school well grade seven was the best four years of my life and then they said I'm going fishing no I'm
21:51
joking folks um but yeah marketing I would say Angelo and then and then of
21:56
course have a backup plan if it doesn't work you know because it's in media is
22:03
evolving as you know now there's so much uh there's TV networks that have
22:08
specialty networks that do fishing and then you've got YouTube channels and that so there's a lot of different ways you can do it and uh it's changed a lot
22:16
since you and I got into it oh boy has whatever um but but you know you you you
22:21
got to look at it as like Cooper and Gussy look they're making a living doing tournaments I envy them that's always
22:29
what I wanted to do but no I took the media route instead because I I was
22:34
tired of sleeping in the back of my car in the early years of tournaments and that's what it takes right a lot of
22:39
sacrifices that people might not realize so it does anyways uh my friend I am
22:45
tickled pink to be involved in this thing an absolute pleasure and now that you've given me the inside scoop I'm
22:51
going to run out and put 10 bucks on you guys so don't let me down hey better make a Canadian not American all right
22:57
the legendary baboomi everybody all righty welcome back to to our that was
23:03
that was a good interview that was good well anytime you get somebody like Bob H you got you got honestly you got two
23:09
legends sitting there and and that have been very much uh competitive yet you
23:15
know kind of buddies and all that at the same throughout the years and all that stuff we we've had our ups and downs
23:21
we've had uh both in the media world you know both did tournaments back in the day you know we competed
23:29
Bob I mean I'm trying to think back when we first met it was in the late 70s I'm
23:35
7879 wow we've been competitors in one way shape or form ever since now yeah
23:44
while we were competitors we also became friends and during those friendships we
23:51
we got very close to uh partnering up on a business right so we were like
23:57
extremely close at one point but you're right it's always been competitive and yet you know I look at him today and and
24:04
I I I still see in my eyes you know he is still
24:10
the legendary Bob isi you know nothing has changed even though for 40 years
24:16
we've been battling it out uh side by side I still there's something about him
24:22
that will never change um he is still the man right he's still the man you
24:28
weren't you guys both Ang and Reno and Bob and Wayne you were a big part of
24:34
excuse me getting the Canadian tournaments seen together you guys did the pro bass and you guys put all that
24:40
together so there's there's a lot of history in there there are so many stories from those days when the four of
24:46
us uh would get together and and have a few beers and and conjure up these ideas
24:53
of you know we had we had Grand
24:58
of of turning the Canadian keep in mind back when I'm talking about yes bass was
25:06
was still the biggest thing going but it wasn't like it is today it wasn't as big
25:12
as it is today right for sure we always aspired to not only catch up to them but
25:18
to dwarf them the whole notion the four of us were going to along with a couple of other guys too by the way um we going
25:26
to put B fishing not on the Canadian map but on the North American map and that's
25:33
uh when we started prob bass yep yeah and we started it because we really
25:39
believed that it was going to make it and it was big back at that time it was big just to give folks an idea of how
25:44
big is Big uh I think for two seasons running
25:50
and I don't remember which years they were but let's just hypothetically it was the early ' 80s so probably 81 82 or
25:56
maybe 83 we had we cut the fields off at 150 teams so that's 300 Anglers 150
26:04
boats that 150 boats and we had a waiting list of over 100 boats that
26:09
would actually show up at the event in hopes that something would happen to one of the 150 competitors and and they
26:17
would make it in you've never seen anything like when you watch the blast and it was a blast off of the 150 boats
26:24
and there was no two different uh flights it was all one shot 150 boats taken off and going every direction on
26:31
that Lake it was pretty insane but and and yeah the weigh-ins I mean you see the weigh-ins back then it was it was
26:37
like 150 boats waiting it took forever to do it but it was good it you guys did a lot for the for the industry that's
26:43
for sure and then we uh we got tired of running them we got tired of uh of doing
26:49
the work because all we wanted to do was just fish them I mean that's that was at the end of the day that was yeah really
26:54
what we we did it for and so in order to do that we had to uh hand over the reins to somebody who took
27:01
it from a not for profit to a legitimate corporation uh Mark mandic was name Mand
27:08
and uh um he went he ran with it yeah he ran with it and then it turned in didn't it
27:14
turn in the CFT after that or something like that tour it two or three iterations of it and then finally I
27:21
think it just died something Bob said in that interview that uh that I know you'll agree with and I agree with is
27:27
that he got set in his ways against the young guys and that's s that's such a a
27:33
strong point that anybody listening you will eventually probably get set in your ways as an angler and all that and what
27:40
he's saying is keep an open mind like these young guys are doing right now and girls are doing right now they're just you know watching YouTube they're trying
27:46
NE techniques and all that stuff you get set in your ways you're starting to put a stop on things you know what I mean on your progression and that and so true
27:52
I'm set my ways on a lot of stuff I try to get we're guilty of it every every day we go out every time out yeah Weil
27:59
of it because and and there's nothing wrong with that than it stunts your
28:04
growth in our case and in Bob's case he made a career out of it so did we so it's hard to break away from things that
28:12
have worked for you but the problem with that is that that it stunts growth
28:17
today's Anglers you know Cooper glant is a classic example and and Gussy uh Jeff
28:23
G gson um is that you have to continue evolving yep
28:29
because today more so than ever before everything's constantly changing
28:35
including the environment which means that these fish are evolving and
28:41
changing and readapting to their conditions and surroundings which means that the Anglers should be following
28:47
suit well some old geezers like us we get so stuck in our ways that sometimes is difficult especially if you have some
28:55
success with your tried and true ways of doing things it's almost impossible to me and I think that's Bob's case but I
29:03
got to tell you I admire him for at this stage in his life and at his age to
29:09
still go out there and go you know right up against some of these
29:16
worldclass young superstars I mean just the fact that he's doing it good on him
29:23
absolutely anyways uh that was one uh we've got the rest of them coming up first uh some housekeeping items that I
29:31
neglected to include in the first part oh Angelo uh listener feedback Mr Bowman
29:37
let me get back to that uh listener feedback by Cody goodchild via Facebook
29:43
in response to a video discussion of ANS and Pete releasing an out of season musky by not netting it and shaking the
29:50
hooks off a boatside we didn't want to put the fish in the net and that was at Karne uh that we did that and it was a
29:56
week before the season and we said you know what we don't we don't need to put that fish in the net let and and an could see it was very easy to pop the
30:02
hooks out so Cody says you can also net it and cut the Barb tips off the hooks hooks are cheap to replace and saves
30:09
fish from having barbs ripped back to their lips compounding compounding bolt cutters are a must for uh safely
30:15
releasing muskies and that's so true in that in that case we didn't need to for a couple of reason so compounding bolt
30:21
colors you see Cutters you'll see probably only musky Anglers carry them as a tool because there's not many in
30:27
the freshw world and what it is is basically it's you know the big bolt cutters that you have out there well
30:32
these are just a little we set they're the best ones are made by a company called knipex KNN I PEX I believe it is
30:39
expensive as hell um but basically it's just a little B set of bolt cutters that you just cut the hook off uh whatever
30:45
Hook is in the fish's mouth like that you leave that little B piece of hook in there the rest of the hooks are all out and everything else and it's a quick
30:51
release and the most musky uh angling Community does that a lot and it's great for the fish sort like that so uh if you
30:58
if you want to get a set of those now they're not cheap they are like 80 90 bucks maybe 100 bucks or they're
31:04
expensive they're big they're a little clumsy but not really big but they're in
31:10
big enough when you're trying to I mean if it's just on the side of of the fish's face then you're okay then you're
31:17
okay but in most cases if they are if it is there you're going to you're going to be able to release it without cutting
31:22
them but once that bait goes inside of the mouth area yeah that I hate like
31:28
putting in there I mean listen the perfect solution to all of these
31:34
discussions which is going to happen sooner or later it's happening already
31:40
now in some parts of uh of the angling world and that is baress hooks you know
31:46
I mean that's really the answer to all of this but it's not going to happen unless it's mandated it's not going to
31:52
happen unless you know jurisdictions like there are jurisdictions here in Canada that
31:58
but you know we have to do it as a as a whole as not as a country but as
32:04
Anglers no more barbs then problem solved problem solved
32:09
with probably I'm going to say 90% of the problems of releasing a fish
32:16
um without having the clumsiness of putting in a pair of pliers and let's be
32:23
honest the the Barb on a hook was made to stay in that's why it's there it's made to stay in the fish's mouth right
32:30
and so what does it mean when you remove a Barb what's it mean to the angler yeah there there are probably statistics
32:35
somewhere that will tell you that you'll probably lose a few more fish if you're
32:41
not experienced you'd lose a lot yeah like if you can't keep tension on it like if you're new you would lose a lot
32:47
of he's making a great point you know have to know how to fight at the end of the day though it's just going to teach
32:53
you eventually you will not be be a noice angler and eventually you will so
32:58
a novice anger okay so let's just say let's say that the failure rate for
33:06
keeping a fish on your line for a novice let's just say the failure rate is like 60% I'm I'm going to go over the halfway
33:14
mark small price to pay it's going to teach the angler to uh become a better
33:20
angler quicker number one but more more importantly it could save especially
33:25
novice Anglers releasing fish that's another recipe for Disaster by the way
33:31
it's one thing uh being an novice angler and keeping a fish on a hook but it's a
33:37
whole other thing too trying to release a fish as a novice angler and handling
33:43
it and doing more damage than not so at the end of the day I believe that that
33:48
barbless is is a winwin win for everybody including the fish my opinion
33:56
only one out of 10 is it going to happen barbus let's say all around Canada and
34:02
then all around everywhere let me ask you another question if I could just uh answer that with another
34:08
question in your lifetime which is going to become a
34:15
reality barbless hooks globally yeah
34:21
or mandated life jackets in the boat must be
34:26
worn which is going to happen in your lifetime well mandated life jackets
34:32
would happen before the the hook thing for you really believe that yeah yeah and I'm hoping to hell it does happen
34:39
you believe that that will happen before the hook thing yeah okay yeah I do wow I think that because I think one there's
34:46
an absolute must for one and then it it's helping the fish in the other one for sure but they that saving lives on
34:53
the water just it's a no-brainer really to be honest right I to me both of them
34:59
are no-brainers to me the fact that we're discussing that as a what if I
35:05
find so go back to my question now is it going to happen in our lifetime no no
35:10
way in our lifetime globally well keep in mind a lot of the countries speaking
35:18
globally now a lot of them are already barbless and I I don't know more countries I know part of our country is
35:25
and certain certain types of fishing are already barbless so we're probably a lot closer
35:32
to that than we may think and my answer to your question is
35:37
yes I think we will see it I think and I think we will see it before we see
35:43
Canada mandate the wearing of life jackets in all water vessels I could see
35:48
tournaments adopting it especially now with the push back of here's the weird one in the tournaments to me boys we'll
35:55
get into this a little bit I watch a lot of tournaments mhm a lot of these guys are wearing
36:01
their Inflatables to drive the boat and then they take them off and put it in the seat an inflatable life jacket so I
36:07
don't un if they have another life jacket in the boat that's right here then it's legal to do it's it's right
36:14
there you're right it's mental if they don't have another life jacket in the boat it's illegal actually you have to wear an inflatable all the time maybe
36:20
it's not maybe it's not in those areas maybe not in the US maybe here in here by the way just what he's saying here in
36:26
Canada if you only have inflatables on your boat as your life-saving devices
36:34
they must be worn at all times every person over 16 years old over 16 however
36:41
if you have the traditional big you know whether it's the the keyhole or or some
36:48
of the other flotation devices they don't necessarily have to
36:53
be worn they can be stowed in the the bowels of the boat which I find
37:00
absolutely ridiculous yep they force you to have them on the
37:06
boat and and and and think about how ridiculous that no seriously let's just think about I love you when you go you
37:12
always do that they force you to spend money you're
37:18
being as boting people forget just as Anglers the Canadian government is
37:27
forcing you to spend your hard-earned dollars on life jackets that you must
37:35
have in the boat for everybody that you have on your boat so you have six people
37:40
you have seven 10 whatever that number is you have to go out and spend your
37:45
hard-earned dollars buying the life jacket that will perhaps save their life at some
37:52
point they're forcing you but they stop there and say and by the way we really
37:58
don't care whether you use them or not we really don't care whether you save a life or not we really don't give a damn I just want you to spend your money
38:04
buying them and then you can bury them in the deepest darkest part of your boat
38:11
never to be seen by light again that's what they're doing what
38:17
we're saying is you've already gone to that point of making these poor folks
38:22
spend all this money on on flotation devices for their boat they why don't
38:27
you do the right thing go one more the final step make it mandatory get them out of
38:36
the bowels of that boat put them on people to save lives that's what they're
38:43
for no they're not therefore the government to force you to spend money
38:49
and pay taxes by the way on that in order to do what take up space in your
38:55
boat it's ridiculous it's ridiculous yeah it is it sounds
39:01
weird we always harp on it the these Inflatables nowadays folks honestly they are when you wear them you will you'll
39:09
get so used to it that I mean the first thing we do when we either for the TV
39:15
show for a tournament or for our own fun in the boat own fishing we throw that little guy on there and it's
39:21
non-existent from the rest of the day you're so used to it it's just it's not even I to me it's it's it's part of the
39:27
fishing it's like the rain jacket right it's like you throw that rain jacket on for reason so it's easy to it's easy
39:33
it's easy to get used to let's just say that so we love to see everybody wearing at at least wearing Inflatables that's
39:38
for sure and they also make sure that they come out and check you when you're out underwater that's the other Beauty
39:44
too so so now you're just spend all this money hundreds of dollars for these life jackets which they force you to do but
39:51
then they pay somebody three or four guys in a big boat with a big outboard motor that's sucking down all kinds of
39:58
gas they go around all day long checking on you to make sure that you have life
40:04
jackets buried in the bottom of your bow your bat I can guarantee you though I
40:10
can guarantee you that those OP officers that are doing that want you to be wearing it they wear it they're all
40:17
wearing it every time you you will not see an OP boat without the officers wearing their life jackets and they want
40:22
you to wear them they can't make you wear them right that's because there's no log so that's they're just saying
40:28
make sure you have them there but I guarantee if you said okay yes they should or should no they shouldn't they'd all say yes they should be
40:33
wearing them right that's think about and think how easy it would be for them to do their job if everybody had to wear
40:39
them they don't need to stop pulled over I've been pulled over they see a life jackets they go okay guys if they see
40:44
you wearing your inflatable they're not even going to check you for other stuff cuz they think okay that guy's wearing his life jacket he's got a safety gear
40:50
he's good I'm going to go to the that next boat over there that doesn't wear them so for sure I've seen it it's happened to me many times so and all
40:56
we're doing with that is conserving lives conserving lives wait do we ever get off path eh look at that just take
41:01
off speaking of conservation we are rogue speaking of conservation grass
41:07
carp do they wear life jackets well you know what we should put life jackets on them that maybe are with some lead
41:14
filled and no but they would they can breathe in water Le but yeah but they got to move to breathe right uh there is
41:20
a fish that is threatening uh your favorite species of fish we've told you this countless times in the past it's
41:27
called a grass carp uh one of the four species of Asian carp that have the
41:33
ability to change fishing as we know it forever forever it's the end of the
41:40
world as we know it they can eat 40% of their body weight and these guys grow up
41:45
to 80 lbs so that means they can Chow Down a lot of a lot of uh vital
41:51
nutrients and vegetation in the water so these are nutrients and vegetation that all of our fish need to live live let's
41:57
be honest if they you rip out the weeds you kill the fish pretty much done right pretty much a done deal I don't know of
42:03
any species of fish that can totally survive the zank and everything else that needs the
42:09
weeds it's a whole ecosystem that can be ruined by these fish so and that little
42:15
character on the screen is the reason why we're doing these pieces by the way if you're not familiar with this
42:22
creature uh you better get serious about it because although there are supposedly
42:29
no established populations of grass carp in Canadian Waters there is DNA evidence
42:35
that would lead us to believe that they are here uh we just have not found any
42:40
uh populations of them that are actually reproducing so there have been sightings there have been um uh recovery of some
42:48
grass carp in our waterways and as Anglers I guess you know I I don't want
42:54
it to sound like this is a vigilante thing but I guess it is a vigilante
42:59
thing because that character there is the bad guy that's the outlaw and we
43:04
need to make sure as Citizens we need to make sure that uh we know our stuff when
43:10
it comes to these things the worst thing you could do is not know and not be able to identify uh one of these things so
43:17
that when you do encounter it in a wild you can take some action yes so the
43:22
invasive species Center along with us are calling on all Anglers to learn how to identify and report this species
43:28
while out in the water to help protect Great Lakes head to Asian car.can
43:39
car.can from the site and then you uh you can be armed and hopefully you can
43:44
be dangerous to that species armed and dangerous to that species Angelo what would you do what what would you do if
43:51
you saw one if you're let's say you're shallow water fishing for large mouth or or whatever and you actually cuz you
43:58
know what they look like now you spent enough time on this site and you saw one what would you do I
44:05
would do everything I could to get that fish in my boat you would yeah I would so you'd stop fishing oh my God you me
44:12
and you would spend the rest of the day I told you that story about that koifish I spent days trying to get that koifish
44:17
thinking what should I do what shouldn't I do called the M&R they brought Nets up they did though I yeah I put a lot of
44:23
time on a great bass fishing spot and I said no no let's try and get this you know figure out what's going on so yeah
44:29
I would totally totally I don't know how I'd get him in the boat maybe I don't want to discuss that right now but I'd
44:36
get him in the boat if I could somehow or other I would get him in the boat the views and opinions discussed by this
44:42
host they're not necessarily the views and opinions and no they are actually they really are probably by everybody so
44:48
yeah make sure i' try to make sure I got them in and then I would call I would I notify both Asian carpc and definitely
44:55
call the mnrf on on it too and and make sure everybody knows how about taking uh some images some stills of it in the
45:03
water if it's clear water and you know it's a grass carp how about taking some pictures so that when you report it to
45:09
the m&f um they can actually see it and they could geotag your picture you they
45:15
know exactly where that was with with the GPS Etc yeah yeah is that geotag is that right Dean sure why not GE tagging
45:21
I think that's right yeah metat tagging meta metad data anyways they can figure it out I like that thank you uh sale is
45:29
also one of our advertisers by the way Wonder we talked about the new new sponsors at the top of this program uh
45:36
but we need to talk about sale The Outdoor Store um if there is not one in
45:42
your neighborhood which is quite possible all you have to do is go to sale.ca it's home to All Things hunting
45:50
uh and fishing and just outdoors in general you don't even have to be a hunter or an angler to enjoy
45:57
the uh experience at a sale store or even the sale online. CA I went in there
46:03
the other day and uh and I cannot go I can't go there without going upstairs
46:08
have to go you have to go upstairs so now I'm I'm looking over there and all of a sudden I see the the hard by way
46:14
upstairs he's saying upstairs cuz they have a whole upstairs floor that's nothing fishing hunting and fishing and
46:19
there was a a row of um the yui product the hardcore baits which are getting
46:24
harder and harder to find right now they're 40 % off right now no yes sir minow bait like jerk baits 110 mm I
46:32
shouldn't be saying this I should be going buying them all but mm uh 40 odd could be the best bait on the market
46:38
right now it's a very good it's a good viy they have all the right colors they had good colors let me just say
46:43
especially for Smallmouth bass so wow yeah um head on over to your sales store
46:50
or better yet go to sale.ca right now and check and see if they've got those your baits he's talking about on the
46:56
site because they have and hardcores both 40 off yes well because if you go
47:02
to the site you could get up to 60% off on some items if you order them online
47:07
so maybe you can combine the 40 and the 60 that's 100 they're ging all stuff for
47:12
free come on uh that's sale.ca folks
47:18
sale.ca lots of fun going in there what about you you missed a little something there did you do that on purpose yeah I
47:23
did okay cuz we're front loading back loading and we'll do that after we can do that sure let's do that after right
47:28
now I want to get to interview number two cuz it's exciting uh Jeff Guston
47:35
Canada's only first and you know what there will never be another one another
47:41
first because he was the very first Canadian it up to actually win the Holy
47:47
Grail the Super Bowl the Stanley Cup of bass fishing in on the
47:54
planet the Bassmaster Classic and uh he um he's first of all he's just such a
48:01
wonderful guy to to but but but in terms of an angler he is a machine Beast an
48:07
absolute machine uh here's his interview that we did in frederickton with him all
48:12
right the big moment is upon us folks I've got him here sitting next to me Gussy Canada's first and only bass
48:19
master he's a world champion I don't care what what we want to call him congratulations on the win we haven't
48:25
had a chance to talk face to face what a what a thrill this country I know you
48:31
you you probably didn't feel it on the water that day that you won uh the big
48:37
event but this whole nation anger wise was just under feet cheering man
48:42
congratulations yeah no I for sure like in the you know the days following it was uh it was pretty awesome the the
48:49
messages and just the you know how happy people were and my God I hey it's it's a
48:55
year and a half later I still like a few times a week have those moments of like I can't believe that actually happened
49:01
and you know for anyone that fishes competitively that's the dream the dream event and uh and there will be I'm
49:08
predicting there will be more Canadian champions in the future but there's only one there's only one that was the first
49:15
and you will always have that distinction my friend yeah well I I I uh I you know I have to hear about Chris
49:21
Johnson was the first to do the you know win win an Elite Series Elite
49:27
just those guys are topn and uh it's it's a it's uh it's a good good crowd in
49:35
Coupe too to be uh associated with what makes Canadians so difficult to be what makes them so
49:42
tenacious why are we doing so well now when in babaz Zumi's era it just wasn't
49:49
happening what's what's the reason I think a number of things we got obviously like it's a lot easier to get
49:54
information now we kind of we can go to a lot to Florida or Texas and you know get on YouTube and you can kind of have
50:01
an idea of what how what kind of fishing you're going to do the second part of it and you hear this from all the guys you
50:07
know from the Johnson's and Coupe um northern anglers in general we we uh you
50:13
know cuz the southern it's mostly reservoirs Shad based a little different than what we have in Canada totally
50:20
different but totally different the good thing up here is we have a lot of different types of lakes so we're you
50:25
know from rivers lakes dirty water clear water small Ms large Ms we kind of get
50:31
to do a little bit of everything so you know if we have to go to Florida and flip and fish grass we have that up here
50:37
and I think that I've always maintained that Canadian Anglers when they go so good Canadian Anglers that go South of
50:43
the Border to compete in these high Lev tournaments I think they have a better bag of tricks because it's so varied and
50:51
difficult I think here in Canada than than the onedimensional say Florida angler or the Arkansas angler or you
50:58
know what I mean they might be you might not you know we might not beat them on the flipping tournament but over the course of the Season maybe ex you're
51:04
able to hang in there but the other thing for me I mean you guys have been to Lake of the Woods um one of the best
51:10
multispecies lakes in the world so like I grew up fishing for everything and you
51:15
know early in my career Lakes where I could go and fish a little deeper use my electronics um just like it might sound
51:23
weird to people but like just hours and days and days of sitting in an ice shack looking at a flasher gives you a lot of
51:29
confidence in your electronics and using them and how fish react to your bait and this is going like 2D flasher time and
51:37
now with the forward sonar being so um big such a big deal I'm I'm a little
51:43
behind the eightball on that so I've been playing catch up a little bit the last couple years but it's it's all just time and um you know I I love fishing
51:51
and I have I caught the bug at an early age and just I like catch anything prototypical canadi I kid turned Big
51:59
Time fisherman as far as I'm concerned there was a you know an image of
52:04
youngsters that might be watching this program of of what you can expect if you
52:09
dedicate yourself and work hard at your passion like Gussy has uh the rewards
52:14
are fantastic uh obviously it has changed your world completely over the
52:19
last year and a half to the point where you're now here in New Brunswick fishing a de Gada against the rest of the world
52:26
how exciting is that it's a privilege it's awesome and uh yeah no I'm fishing with Cooper so we're oh my God I can't
52:33
even imagine that Dre yeah I know for sure he uh he I get mostly lickens from
52:39
him you know throughout the course of the season so I'm excited to get in the boat with them and and uh and learn a
52:45
few of his tricks maybe you and Coupe head-to-head against the Johnson's
52:51
what's the result I I think it maybe depend I wouldn't I wouldn't want to um I wouldn't be chirping off to them if we
52:58
were going on Lake Ontario they're not watching they're not watching it's okay maybe uh you know maybe out a neutral
53:03
sight but they're they're hard to beat I mean they have a they have a good system and they're they're uh they're some of
53:09
the best in the world and uh it's it's yeah it's pretty cool and for all the Canadians out there I mean it it's
53:16
doable it's possible I get a lot of questions from and mostly from young guys how do I do it how do I make it
53:23
make it and I mean the spon I mean and you guys deal with this too like the sponsorship that stuff's all important
53:29
um and everything but like the number one thing I tell everyone is you got to fish fish a lot don't go you know and
53:36
when you go don't go to the same Lake you go to all the time or the same spots where you know you can catch fish I mean
53:41
I you just don't go on the nice weather days you got to you know if you want to do it for a living whether it's guiding
53:47
or Tournament Fishing or media I mean you got to be able to catch fish and and uh the rest of it'll kind of fall into
53:53
place buddy uh shine that Crown up up and we proudly and make sure that they
53:59
all see it all right best of luck to you my friend all right thank you all righty
54:05
uh back the Gussy the Gus Meister he is he's awesome something El I remember I
54:11
remember the first Lake of the wood shoot we did when Gussy was uh he came and gave us a hand just on some you know
54:17
on areas and giv us an idea and all that and how even how laid-back he was back then so he'd go I was shooting I
54:24
remember I was up the bat and I had Walley and crappy to do and uh and Gussy
54:30
say okay Pete just go over there and fish this that and that and that and and throw jigs or whatever he gave me good
54:35
advice but it was more of it was the best thing was what I look back at gusy and he'd be sitting back in his boat
54:41
talking everybody his feet to be up on the motor he just like almost so lazily
54:46
relaxed and that was his his whole attitude the whole time he's such a relaxed dude and he's the guy we all
54:52
want to be yeah and he put us on the like he put us on the remember catching a couple of Walley like 26 27 Ines real
54:59
quick on Jigs and he says do you want some crappies and he took us the most obscure spot on Lake of the Woods and said there you go Pete right there and
55:05
crap crap he's Gussy just try it and B B B B he just he just knew so he's he's a
55:11
smart angler that guy and he's totally unassuming too that's what I love about Jessie it doesn't matter like this guy
55:17
is the world champion bass angler he is you know on a
55:22
Shelf with maybe well for sure with no other Canadian but in terms of angling
55:30
Community he's probably on a Shelf with maybe a dozen well a dozen Ang has Roland Martin
55:36
ever won the classic no no he's done what Roland Martin has never done Martin
55:41
qualified that uh I could be wrong but I think he qualified for 27 of them and
55:47
never won one yeah yeah gy Gussy does it in his first time out
55:53
or second time out I think it is right I think qualified the year before yeah I'm not sure I know he won won a tournament
55:59
on that same body of water before and he was a favorite going in for sure if it was you and me that have just won this
56:06
thing like we'd have the shirt and the hat and the ring and the belt and the
56:11
hel yeah and Entourage and thing this guy like he would never even know it
56:18
like he is just so unassuming and that's what you love about him and you know we said during the interview the
56:24
prototypical Canadian young angler well he is he is what what we think every
56:32
young Canadian angler should be or is and that's and and Gussy another thing
56:37
about Gussy for those that just see him in the classic and just see him fishing bass tournaments this guy is a stick on
56:43
every species alive especially like Lake of the Woods is a perfect example if you look at the species list in Lake of the
56:49
Woods Gussy is topnotch on any and every one of those things too so he knows a lot about a lot of fish so and don't
56:55
forget he cut his teeth on Hunting oh my God that guy's a white tail be Hunter
57:00
extraordinaire he's a guide right he guides or did was before a white tail guide wolf guide I don't imagine he's
57:06
guiding too much these days not much yeah maybe that time of year he might be because there the you know maybe the tournaments are over maybe he does we
57:12
should I didn't ask him if the money went to his head but uh I I should have I see with a guy like him I don't I
57:18
don't think money is is even a part of it reinvested into the into the tournament world for sure because he
57:24
needed it back then for sure you still need it now but the things are changing as we speak um but yeah he was very
57:31
exciting hope you enjoyed that interview as much as we did uh having it in the news we didn't do this in the first
57:38
section but maybe we weren't supposed to this is an interesting story yeah speaking of Americans and and in keeping
57:43
with the whole uh tournaments tournament thing and two American Anglers fined for
57:48
over fishing Walley at a tournament once again walleye rears its ugly head the
57:54
tournament thing yeah and a us-based uh wall I think too right before it was the
58:00
northern us Minnesota or somewhere like the Michigan or something like that yeah this is there's the max Wilson we'll say
58:06
name names because they were Nam Max Wilson and Isaac lakic leic or Lage L uh
58:11
from the national Walley Tour event held in Sue St Marie in Michigan the Sue St Marie in the US side because there's two s St Marie uh following the event invest
58:19
investigation was launched and after allegations were made that Wilson and Lich broke Ontario fishing laws and sub
58:25
subsequently won the tournament the investigation went on to say that one of them Wilson caught retained six Walley
58:32
in Ontario Waters and the RO Channel like hiran and Lich CAU and retained
58:37
five Walle in the Ontario Waters and apparently the limit is four right I
58:43
believe and and these other so it doesn't say so so so let me see if I get this correct yeah I got a the on the the
58:52
tournament uh number that was deemed to be legal was F fish was it had to be
58:59
based out of Michigan out of yeah out of uh right so that's us us so the tournament rules in that part of the
59:06
lake have a number let's say that numberers five or six five or six exactly these
59:13
guys caught over five or six fish and brought them back to the US that's what
59:21
it seems one but then it was discovered that those fish came from Canadian water
59:27
where it is illegal to catch and keep five fish see I I know we've discussed this
59:36
before they must have had somebody else in their boat I would think that maybe they're because a lot of these walleye tournaments are like a proam sort of
59:42
sort of thing so maybe the another guy witnessed this or something or I don't know how that worked I mean how do you
59:48
catch these guys they came clean right they both pleaded guilty I can't imagine it was intentional that's what I was
59:54
going to say that's yeah listen I I think anybody who breaks the law with a game and you know Wildlife and Fish and
1:00:01
all that stuff I think we we have to be harsh on them but but you also have to be realistic like you have to look at
1:00:07
the the situation and assess it now if this is what happened that they were
1:00:13
allowed to weigh in five fish on the US side and they went out about their
1:00:19
business fishing this tournament thinking five fish is what I have to bring back now the fact that they caught
1:00:26
those fish which obviously was not off limits obviously they could fish Ontario
1:00:31
Canadian Waters yeah the fact that they went there and caught their five fish
1:00:37
bag which are allowed to weigh in see unless they did it knowingly and
1:00:43
we will never know whether they did it knowingly if they did it but the question is or the point is they should
1:00:50
have known going into Canadian waters you know the laws are going to be different or you don't know the laws you
1:00:55
should be checking that out how many times have you and I fished the reverse of that scenario where we're fishing a
1:01:02
Canadian tournament but we fished us Waters right we've done that right and
1:01:08
and there may be and I'm not suggesting we have but there may be situations where we fished in a pocket of water
1:01:14
that was in this specific area that maybe had different yeah laws that we
1:01:23
understand could have been barbis could have been limit differences could have been size difference who knows yeah we
1:01:29
didn't do it intentionally right we just did know that the law in that particular
1:01:37
little I wonder if we ever did look at that when in the early days of that that's a good it's a good point right
1:01:43
because the I mean the good thing that would the Saving Grace or something like that is in a team tournament you're
1:01:48
allowed we're allowed five fish in Ontario you're probably not going to be over the limit over there either if you
1:01:53
have a license you're probably even if you're allowed three as a person you're still under your limit right I was going to
1:01:59
say I wonder then if maybe they did not have an Ontario
1:02:04
License because if you have an Ontario License you're right you should be aware
1:02:10
of what the rules and regulations are in Ontario and I'm wondering maybe these guys didn't have an Ontario License
1:02:17
because you'd have to pick between conservation and Sport and right there it tells you what exactly yeah so yeah
1:02:24
there's probably wouldn't they be charged with uh fishing without a license as well though something like
1:02:29
that yeah it's it's kind of gray I wish somebody could uh explain that but that's this is the story that we got I
1:02:35
know Dean and I both talked about and we wondered if we had the same questions as an just have now so they got fine five
1:02:41
plus three so eight grand five yeah 5,000 for for uh Wilson and lackage was
1:02:46
3,000 so both for over limit wow H
1:02:51
that's uh it's an interesting one I'd like to get more like you said like get a little more detail on that yeah uh in
1:02:59
keeping with our interview theme that we did uh in frederickton New Brunswick earlier this year while we were filming
1:03:05
a fishing Canada episode that was covering the Pan-American uh black bass
1:03:10
championships that were held there in frederickton uh you had a chance to uh
1:03:16
interview a young Canadian up and the youngest Canadian probably tournament
1:03:22
angler right now at least in the yeah I'm I'm assuming so in the BS for sure is Cooper Galant yeah Cooper from uh
1:03:28
Ontario another Ontario Boy southern Ontario um yeah let's listen to it okay
1:03:33
I am with Cooper Gant who is Canada's youngest professional active
1:03:39
professional bass anger on the circuits Coop how are you brother good how are you good to see you man happy to be here
1:03:45
I'm happy to I'm happy you're here happy gusy here I'm Happy Candy this is a great a great event so as I said Cooper
1:03:51
is the is the youngest Elite angle of our four professionals we have out there right now so we got Gussy that's fishing
1:03:57
with cop right now and then we have the Johnston Brothers as well um Cooper first off before we get to this stuff
1:04:04
let's talk about you how you got to this level so start with your Ontario stuff cuz I know you were kicking butt like
1:04:10
you were doing well I know you're a humble guy but you were kicking bot in Ontario and then we'll talk about the uh
1:04:16
nation in the elite how how does it get here yeah so I started Tournament Fishing like back home like club stuff
1:04:21
and a lot of stuff through Ontario vaccination so started doing that stuff the high school and Junior program Y and
1:04:28
uh got off fished a lot of really cool people growing up learned a lot that's a key isn't it that's a key right there
1:04:33
yeah y time on the water I spent as much time on the water as I could so did the high school program the junior program
1:04:40
uh was able to go down south to fish like the junior Championship the High School National Championship and that's
1:04:45
where it all started Y and uh that was through the Ontario bass Nation um both the Port Perry Bass Masters and the
1:04:51
quiny Bass Masters and then uh you know it just I got obsessed with Tournament Fishing
1:04:58
um fishing in general I mean I love fishing for everything but how did you make the opens how did you qualify to
1:05:03
the opens so for the opens anyone can fish the opens okay anyone can go in and
1:05:08
fish the boss Master opens so I started fishing them in 2020 the first year I fished them uh had some mechanical
1:05:15
issues that year and I remember that was kind of out of it after the first event I needed to save some money so went to
1:05:22
2021 missed it by two spots and then fish it again 2022 and that was the year
1:05:27
I qualified right on and you did well in qualifying you won a tournament that didn't you that year yeah on uh Cherokee
1:05:32
in Tennessee that's you you blew everybody's mind with that one that was one anybody that wants to go back and
1:05:37
look at Cooper's history on that that tournament everybody was wondering where all these fish were and Cooper was
1:05:43
literally watching them on his electronics he basically luring them up cracking them and everybody's going
1:05:49
where's he getting all these fish so that was a good job buddy that was awesome thanks and then and then you got to the elite so let's youve got two
1:05:54
years in the elite and he's finished 17th overall and you
1:06:00
might not think wow 17th is that is fantastic for a young Canadian angler to go against world class Anglers and
1:06:06
especially from the US those guys are just hammers like that so how is your quickly how is your Elite seasons's been
1:06:12
so far yeah they've been good I mean you know the whole tournament thing it's it can be stressful absolutely you know
1:06:18
what I mean especially when you first get into it cuz like once you qualify for the elites doesn't mean you're like
1:06:24
in for good right if you stop catching them they'll boot you so there's a lot of pressure and you know I'm thankful to
1:06:30
have a couple good years finished 17th overall in points last year and then finished 17th again this year how many I
1:06:37
asked him earlier how many kilometers did you put on your truck last year driving through these tournaments yeah so had a brand new truck at the
1:06:42
beginning of this season and I've already got 55,000 on it that's a lot of driving we do a lot with with fishing
1:06:48
Canada show nothing compared to that stuff so okay let's move on to to this tournament um when you got the call to
1:06:54
be on the team obviously it must have been a nice surprise for you yeah yeah I uh you know when I got the call I was
1:07:00
all over it um I've heard nothing but good things about the previous tournaments uh with this program and uh
1:07:07
yeah when I got the call I was fired up I remember talking on the phone with Gussy and we're like yeah let's let's do this did you guys get together for this
1:07:13
you and Gussy or did they say hey can we get Gussy and Cooper together for this team did somebody create that team or did you guys create this team yeah yeah
1:07:19
yeah y okay perfect so you've had a day one day on the water so far yep on the
1:07:25
same St John River what do you think so far it's cool really cool place it's uh chalk full of big ones yeah or not big
1:07:31
ones sorry chalk full full of fish big ones are hard to come by right that see that seems to be the normal even an and
1:07:37
I we fish here before for many years now and it's the same thing you got a I mean to get a good TV show here you got to
1:07:44
work your ass off for days you know just about to get that one you know quality of fish but that said have you found
1:07:51
anything that you can Bank on or think you can Bank on you and gasi as little tactic a little technique I mean this is
1:07:57
a going to after the fact so you can say anything you want here now you're yeah yeah no yeah it's yeah it's just one of
1:08:03
those things like we were out yesterday and we had two good bites and we caught a lot of fish didn't catch many big ones
1:08:10
um like I said there's a lot of fish out here we're just going to kind of like we have one more day practice so we're kind of like still really open-minded we're
1:08:16
not really 100% sure on what we're going to be using what we're going to be doing but tomorrow do you have a game plan for
1:08:21
tomorrow's pre-fish day so you got to you got one in now so you what you found out what you did the other day what are
1:08:27
you going to do tomorrow to try and find out yeah I think we're going to we got to talk to the team again too cuz we're all working together right so that's a
1:08:34
good one yeah yeah we're going to we're going to like talk to other guys and like see where they want us to go and we're going to tell them like we're
1:08:40
working together so we don't really have like a set in stone game plan but uh by the sounds of it I think we're going to
1:08:45
go to one section of the lake on the lower end right and uh apparently there's not as many down there but some
1:08:51
of the guys are getting bigger bikes so we're going to go down there and now is the whole team going to go down or just you and Gussy uh from what I know just
1:08:57
me and Gussy as of now I'm sure other guys will be down there but uh yeah go down there poke around and and that's a
1:09:02
key for this tournament that's a key that all other tournaments you cannot use a cell phone right and I mean
1:09:08
especially in your Elites and all that in this tournament they encourage you like these guys can call Joe Ford they can call whoever they want on the team
1:09:14
like toomi up and say hey what's happening right that's going to be a big thing right that's got to help oh absolutely it was funny I was saying the
1:09:20
other day I'm like this is kind of weird like I feel like I'm breaking rules I'm breaking rules but we're not it's like
1:09:25
something that the whole team wants everyone to do exct work together and keep everyone posted predictions on the
1:09:31
win for weight what do you think two days fishing in this water what do you think you think might win like for the
1:09:37
top first place winning yeah let's say the final overall I'm going to
1:09:43
say 17 a day 17 a day I think that's a pretty damn good guess that's my guess
1:09:48
as Cooper Gad fishing with Jeff Gussy Gerson on the Canadian team buddy knock
1:09:53
him dead brother appreciate it looking forward to it we're hoping for you bro thank you all right great
1:10:00
interview thank you great interview um how how wonderful is it for some kids
1:10:07
to be watching him right now and say oh my God I imagine because it it's it's so
1:10:13
achievable oh my God right what he's done is so achievable so far and it's and it's I don't know if it's out there
1:10:19
as much as when you and I were young or maybe there's out there more I mean in the saying the inspiring these young
1:10:26
just angling tournament angling in general because it see almost seems like the license numbers are down and all
1:10:32
that kind of stuff so where are the kids really in there and are the enthusiastic but I know the ones that are when they watch a guy like Cooper I'm telling you
1:10:39
because you remember you and I as kids when we're I mean this Roland Martin I watch oh my when I the first time I ever
1:10:45
got to see him on television I just died I just went to heaven I said what the and that was later in my life you know what I mean so but just so these kids
1:10:51
get to see a guy like Cooper and all the all the other guys but I mean Cooper so young um it it's so cool and they just
1:10:58
they absorb it and they lap it up and he's their he's their man you know what I mean I remember meeting him and his dad at a at a I think it was the Toronto
1:11:05
Sportsman Show when he was just I think he was 13 14 years old wow um and the
1:11:11
reason I remember is because immediately after that that year you started hearing about
1:11:18
him you know what I mean and and you started seeing him more and I that's the
1:11:24
guy cuz and what I remember about about meeting him for the first time at that show was how Keen he was oh God you know
1:11:32
we meet a lot of kids with their dads and and and they're all wonderful kid you know there's certain level of
1:11:38
excitement in their eyes but with him with him I remembered it like it was
1:11:43
it it's it stuck with me yeah and lo and behold a couple of years after that um
1:11:50
he reached out to us for something I don't remember what it was I think it was a tournament he was fishing and if
1:11:56
there was a sponsorship opportunity or something and I remember once again saying that's that kid I remember from
1:12:02
and then he actually entered one of our contests on fishing
1:12:07
canada.com right and ended up winning so his name has always been floating around from the first day that we met the
1:12:13
contest and now now he's he's coup I
1:12:19
mean he is as hot a stick I think and
1:12:24
not just speaking about Canadians here I'm I'm talking he's a good angler he's about as hottest stick as you're ever
1:12:29
going to find in the fishing world and he's like he's like Gussy in the sense of he's a multi-species angler so Cooper
1:12:35
you can follow him on his his YouTube site and you'll see him fishing carp you'll see him fishing steel head you
1:12:42
see a large mouth Smallmouth Walley musky and I remember uh one of the only times I've ever maybe the only time I
1:12:47
ever saw Cooper on the water I was fishing the Whitby Harbor and I had you know the big boat out there and then I
1:12:53
see this guy in this tiny little red tinner was painted red with like house paint whatever and he calls that boat
1:12:59
little red or something like that but I looked closer and the guy was just I think it was one or two guys but anyways the guy fishing I think he was filming
1:13:06
and he was throwing these great big pounder uh musky baits and all that stuff so I knew he was after Pike and I thought that's got to be Cooper so I
1:13:11
went over and I was say Coop he goes who is that say Pete oh my God so we started laughing and I see this 12 foot like I
1:13:18
mean a 12 foot tinner uh painted red and he's firing these great big giant Pike baits out there to try and catch a pike
1:13:24
and October you know it was so cool I uh saw a video of him that because they
1:13:30
went I think along with his dad and and a couple other guys including moose by
1:13:36
the way who we had the chance to meet uh down east uh I think moose was the the videographer if I'm not mistaken but
1:13:42
anyways regardless they went on for a summer um or two actually uh depicting
1:13:50
all of their travels a road trip wasn't Road was like a road trip and talk about
1:13:55
great little Productions man oh dude those guys do a good job Cooper's brother they do a great job he's not
1:14:01
onedimensional for sure that's for sure and I I I think it won't be long before
1:14:06
uh he will be the next Canadian that will be crowned South of the Border as the uh the big he's going to win an
1:14:12
elite for sure that's that's a given right so yeah for sure uh fan question
1:14:19
of the week my friend brought to you by fishfindermounts.com yeah
1:14:25
she got a like find your mounts I was talking to somebody just the other day look at that setup look at that
1:14:30
beautiful setup with somebody just the other day a good friend of ours uh he said what are you guys doing how do you
1:14:36
figuring out this this whole thing with the with the polls and how do you I'm trying to build and what are you doing
1:14:44
you're wasting your time go to fishfindermounts.com he's trying to build his own yeah what you do and this
1:14:50
guy's got more money than God okay so he's asking me how long and then then
1:14:56
can you should I go to Fishfinder dots dot fishfindermounts.com why are you
1:15:02
wasting your time for that they have so many different options and buy what you need yeah that's funny that's especially
1:15:08
if he has money like that anyways the question is submitted by Kevin Bryant from Ontario via email
1:15:16
that's and our email address is info@ fishing canada.com or you can do it through Facebook or
1:15:22
Instagram Kevin's question is how how often have you introduced someone to fishing for the first time did they stay
1:15:30
with uh did they stay with fall in love with it stay with it fall in love with it or really didn't enjoy
1:15:38
it good question good question good question I think I'd like to get a little more in depth as to what he means
1:15:44
by introduce uh because I if it's just
1:15:49
introduction in passing we've probably done it a million times in our careers
1:15:55
right um if it's actual Hands-On introduction out on the water that's
1:16:03
obviously a little more workable number right right for sure um you know I'll give you a very tough or it's tough to
1:16:11
to find that person that's never fished cuz most people have sampled it in one way shape or form or another off the
1:16:17
bank went at a cottage one weekend so they've all most a lot of people have tried to fish right I don't know when
1:16:23
modern day again I'll go to the modern day angland maybe not so much or the modern day kid but back in my day every
1:16:29
kid tried fishing at least once or twice they might not have liked it but they tried it you know what I mean so I do
1:16:35
know somebody who I did introduce for the very first
1:16:41
time and and as an adult not as a kid I'm an adult now and did I fail or did
1:16:49
in other words did he uh did he stick with it stick with it no and and and the only reason would go fishing if I called
1:16:56
him tomorrow he'd go fishing tomorrow with you not with himself he's not
1:17:01
really into fishing that right and that's Ian mure oh wow yeah I could see
1:17:06
that and uh if I call he never fished up until then wow if I called him I mean
1:17:11
he'd go but um you he wouldn't go tomorrow though in this weather not this weather he say ah an can you call me
1:17:18
next summer um other than that I can't think of the the scenario
1:17:25
where somebody had never fished before and I had the opportunity to take him out fish and then follow his path
1:17:34
to I I um very tough tough tough tough the interview you just did with Coupe
1:17:40
that young man we we met him as I said early in his fishing life and uh man
1:17:48
that uh maybe we had a maybe we had something to do with it maybe we played a part in in convincing him to bet we
1:17:54
were a part little small percent of convincing him I know like this this
1:17:59
summer um I took out my boys and their
1:18:04
friends so one or two of their friends and I know they don't fish a whole lot
1:18:09
and they had a great day out there so I'm hoping that maybe they'll fish some more I don't have no idea how that's
1:18:15
progressed and if they will or not but I know they had a great time we CAU some fish I showed them some you know little tricks and the Fish Finder stuff and all
1:18:21
that and I think I think it made an influence on them I it was just a fun day out in the water for me just having the boys out there and you know getting
1:18:28
them all catching fish and all that so um we Ang and I certainly try I know you do it when you go up to the balam lake
1:18:34
there with the kids and all that stuff so we certainly try and hopefully it makes an impact uh on the kids and on
1:18:40
the future for sure but I don't know it's hard to say we we don't we don't follow it we don't document yeah it's hard to follow yeah but I think anybody
1:18:47
who has an opportunity to uh influence especially a child but just a human
1:18:53
being in general anybody who has the opportunity to influence them to spend a day out there out there can be on the
1:19:01
banks of a river on a lake on a boat just out there if you have an
1:19:08
opportunity to reach out to another human being and take them out there for the first time please please do it yeah
1:19:17
please because you could be changing their life forever right and or or even
1:19:23
the person that's been not a little bit here a little bit there doesn't get out a whole lot get them out too if they want to go out and they keep bugging you
1:19:29
get them out because you I guarantee you that means there's still there's some passion in there they can't get out they don't have a boat they don't have a
1:19:35
truck they don't have whatever you know what I mean so get them out there and they're going to love it now I know what's going to happen Ian's going to
1:19:41
call me now that he's okay when we going out I love it
1:19:46
that's awesome anyways our final interview of the big four that we did down in frederickton New Brunswick
1:19:52
earlier this year uh is a non Canadian but uh a already a legend in
1:20:00
the fishing Community South of the Border uh I mentioned at the top of the program mentioned that uh he has great
1:20:06
lineage and pedigree because he is The Offspring of one of the greatest most
1:20:12
recognized winningest professional Anglers on the planet and that is our good friend Roland Martin uh he is Scott
1:20:19
Martin son to Roland all right joining us now uh Scott Martin I don't think he
1:20:25
needs a big introduction although I will tell you for those of you who might not know uh aside from television
1:20:31
personality aside from tournament Superstar uh he's probably one of the hottest things on the internet both
1:20:37
YouTube Instagram followers Galore welcome Scotty I appreciate you having me thanks for taking the time oh it's
1:20:42
our pleasure uh and and a captain or co- Captain is it of Team us yeah Captain
1:20:48
I've been captain of Team USA now for man you know I'm not sure exactly 5 years at least yeah you know we had that
1:20:54
little blip with Co kind of slowed things down it kind of we kind of lost track there for a bit but I think it's
1:21:00
been since 2019 we've been doing these and um it's been so much fun okay first
1:21:05
of all I got to ask you how do you find the time like how do you find the time to do all this yeah that it is becoming
1:21:11
more difficult but you know good thing is we do most of these events in the fall and all of our tournament season is is kind of windling down in August so
1:21:18
it's you know it's off season for hardcore Tournament Fishing right so you've got a little break in the good so
1:21:24
Scott tell us about this event I mean you were one of the original guys involved in this one how did they get
1:21:30
come together and tell us a little bit about well you know Charlie Evans and then Tony and and and John Knight and
1:21:35
they all reached out to me you know with this idea and I'd heard heard some chatter about it and um Charlie Evans
1:21:42
and I have done working together for many years to the FLW tour and Charlie said that he wanted to get involved but
1:21:47
he was real adant about getting me involved as well and um you know it it's I just enjoy it it's my honor to be part
1:21:55
of the team and you know be part of it from the beginning and be a voice for this because you know for me you know
1:22:02
I've been fishing tournaments for 25 years I'm the bass master all 25 years yeah so you know starting is your 2000
1:22:11
on my Pro side on FLW and then finishing up now with the basm B Master it's just
1:22:17
this is neat and what I see for the future of fishing it was special to me here's what happened whenever I went to
1:22:24
the first event EV and I was around Team Canada team Mexico and and uh uh uh the
1:22:31
guys from Africa team Africa South Africa all the and I'm looking at them and I'm talking fishing to these people
1:22:37
that are around the world and in my mind I thought you know America's really the only place people bass fish of course
1:22:43
but yeah I'm talking to the South Africans and they're ate up with it just like me and I can see it in their eye and hear it their passion in their voice
1:22:50
and then I meet you know the people from all around the world France Italy Spain and I realized quickly that
1:22:58
bass fishings loved around the world and so what a great opportunity to help spread that you know when you look at
1:23:04
you look at North America and you look at what's happened over the last 20 years 25 years sure really 40 years from
1:23:12
when my dad started with Ray Scott years ago maybe 50 years I might be out I might even going back far enough yeah
1:23:19
but where where it's gone to in North America from all the tournaments to then
1:23:24
High School events College events and now where we're at and then you say man
1:23:31
what else can we do in North America I mean there's not a whole lot more we can add to it we can keep adding people
1:23:37
sometimes people forget that I'm glad you brought up the school thing because South of the Border it's a big thing now
1:23:43
in in high school and college you've got College programs for for Tournament Fishing it's become huge and I'm not
1:23:50
going to say I'm not going to drve fool you for one minute say that it's on the same level as has golf or tennis but
1:23:57
it's in terms of sheer numbers I'll bet you it is there it it I don't know of a
1:24:04
school honestly a high school or a college it doesn't have a fishing team not a single one I mean it's it's
1:24:10
amazing and so I look at this and say okay this is what's happened in North America now we have an opportunity to do
1:24:17
that same thing in worldwide you know think about where the Sport's going to be in 50 years from
1:24:23
now in Spain and in France and South Africa you know it's it's just how many
1:24:28
teams how many teams have you got on this circuit we'll call it how many teams for Team USA how many votes do we
1:24:34
have how many countries sorry not not teams how many countries are involved I don't know the exact amount for this particular one but but but it's quite a
1:24:41
bit quite a bit we I know there's uh I know China I think China's here which which is awesome crazy uh yeah you know
1:24:48
and I I think there's nine or so that's what I'm kind of thinking that is absolutely
1:24:54
and and it's just growing you know we do the world championship each year um there's 14 15 16 17 countries involved
1:25:02
no I remember your dad years ago I think it was sort of in the infancy stages of this whole
1:25:08
International bass fishing thing but I remember him telling me that he had just
1:25:13
come back from Portugal there was an event gamoto and him when go over there quite a bit fish that was kind of the
1:25:20
early stages of international stuff great and now since uh you know us angling was formed and of course with
1:25:27
the with the with the the big events over around the world it's it's great you know so how does it work uh so these
1:25:34
teams have to qualify in their own country in order to participate in these events so each country has their own set
1:25:41
of parameters as far as who they're going to elect to be on the teams okay and so each country does it a little bit
1:25:46
different they a lot of these countries have qualifying events y throughout the year to then have slots for those
1:25:53
Anglers you we do it a little different here in the states we've just kind of picked our Anglers and we mix it up a
1:25:58
little bit so you know this year I think half of our team are new people that have fish we bring them in on the payams
1:26:04
and then we'll then start trading out some of the people that that you know from the PanAm and then move them over
1:26:10
to the world so because we don't have as many teams on the world championship we have three teams you're only allowed uh
1:26:16
three teams on the world championship okay I I see you uh brought in aside from yourself another ringer this year
1:26:23
uh J yeah Jacob's been a part of this for a couple years now and been part of the
1:26:29
pams when we had the last tournament last the very first one we had in Canada at Cornwall on St yeah Cornwall at St
1:26:36
Francis wheeler was part of that team as well so he's been he's been involved with us for quite a while but yeah no
1:26:42
it's awesome to have him here you know he obviously super busy himself but he has a lot of legitimacy to what we're
1:26:48
doing and and that's something I think we need to point out to the audience this is not like a tournament um event
1:26:55
where these guys are fishing for big bucks and doing it for living there's no big bucks involved in this maybe I
1:27:02
thought the gold medal was solid gold last year I was thinking like maybe I've got the weight of gold here and I actually took it into the pawn shop
1:27:08
there I was going to P it but fig to get tested for me and he said no it's not real so beautiful it hangs it hangs in
1:27:14
my trophy case but it's not real gold there's we make no money in this event and and and and that's okay in fact you
1:27:21
spend money oh yeah of course yeah we're all donating our time and of expens as you know we Team USA
1:27:29
just like Team Canada and a lot of the other teams have sponsors for each one of their teams and that helps pay for
1:27:35
some of the r board and travel expenses but so far no no big no big money to to
1:27:41
be involved which is in my mind awesome really you know it really makes it the
1:27:47
people that are here here because they really really enjoy it and that's how I like it you know I think it make for
1:27:53
great television personally because that's the business I'm in I I think a a a series following your group and and
1:28:01
and and you know capturing all of the different events in different countries in a TV format series I think it'd be
1:28:07
exciting something to maybe think about you know we we're doing a little of that on our YouTube channel with what we do
1:28:13
on the on the bassm tour and it's very popular so and we document uh each one
1:28:18
of these events uh as well and we put on the YouTube channel so it does show the whole process and people have really
1:28:23
enjoyed the videos but but you're right I mean I you know what I see the future of this turning into hopefully is more
1:28:31
events the year for sure and and the ability for us to have maybe have we
1:28:36
have two a year right now roughly be nice to have four be fantastic and then
1:28:42
then you're doing something then you're really moving the needle and then eventually maybe six and imagine if we had a series where you all your long
1:28:48
you're traveling around the world fishing these events how do you drum up that drve
1:28:54
that that little oomph cuz you're a very competitive angler probably the most
1:29:00
competitive angler that I know how do you drive up that that need to win in an
1:29:07
event that really you know there's no monetary value do you do you still get up in the morning like tomorrow morning
1:29:13
are you going to get up all P saying I got this oh yeah you know when I was traveling here I didn't know what to expect of course and so I'm traveling
1:29:19
and of course you know 3 or four days ago you're always thinking man I wish I had an extra day at home I got all this stuff to do and you start going man I
1:29:25
wish you know wish I didn't have to go right now to the tournament cuz I have XYZ to do you get on the plane you're
1:29:30
kind of like going through the process and then you step off and when I got to the river yesterday and I saw it saw the
1:29:37
leaves and the water and man it was awesome and then today you know you get around all the other competitors and you
1:29:42
see that same look in their eye I'm here to win I me I mean yeah and and so it it's so make no mistake about it he's
1:29:49
still here same feeling today and tomorrow and the next day as I do it at an elite tournament that I would fish
1:29:55
wow that's great to hear that because some people might think well there's nothing in it for you you're you're kind
1:30:02
of here just as a PR or as an ambassador but but it's not the case I it's not and I'll tell you here's the advantage
1:30:08
here's the advantage to this what we're all doing and what I've noticed so when
1:30:14
I when I meet people around the world um from different walks of life and they
1:30:19
they don't know a lot about Tournament Fishing and they'll ask me questions in regards to like what so what do you do you know I fish the Bassmaster Elite
1:30:25
tour and for the people that know a little bit about fishing they don't quite know what that is they're like is
1:30:31
that like a big tournament or big little tournament what is that and or I might tell them I won the bassm open on l a
1:30:37
Kobe and they go well that's great but what is that and so it's a little hard to get the to
1:30:43
get people to comprehend what that means yeah but here's the advantage to what we're doing here when I say to the same
1:30:49
group of people and I've done it many times I'll try and explain what I do then I say but I on Team USA and they go
1:30:55
oh Team USA and then I say and we fish these international events and I was we won Gold Medal in Portugal and they go
1:31:00
this guy won Gold Medal hey this guy want gold medal in Portugal like all of a sudden it clicks and all of a sudden
1:31:05
they think fishing's cool they throw gold medals and there's teams in other countries and that is like the
1:31:11
conversation that we have they don't know about bass they don't even really care about bassm you know they don't
1:31:16
know but everybody can relate to a gold medal everybody can relate to teams and countries competing in that format and
1:31:23
so it's a great introduction to people around the world and companies for that matter to get excited about what we're
1:31:28
doing speaking of gold speaking of gold I would be remiss
1:31:33
if I didn't drag you into this conversation how do you feel about our young Canadian boys coming south and uh
1:31:40
and whipping some butt the last few years oh my gosh yeah it's been good they they've they've done well they've
1:31:46
done well it's it's been absolutely amazing it seems every year we're sending new and younger comp competitors
1:31:54
South of the Border to fish against these guys um and they're doing good man they're doing great and you know to be
1:32:01
honest with you Canada's doing great look at Japan oh yeah I mean really
1:32:06
they've all and here's to my point yeah when I come to these events and I see
1:32:12
South Africa and China and and Puerto Rico Puerto Rico it's the island in the
1:32:18
Caribbean the Dominican Republic fishing bass yeah I see that same look at they're good Anglers they can comp like
1:32:24
like where where bass fishing the knowledge has grown into in The Last 5
1:32:29
Years is just the there's no walls anymore I don't care where you live or where you're from no I see how you're
1:32:35
doing um on the internet obviously YouTube uh is going sensationally for
1:32:40
you Instagram is blown up uh how's TV coming are you still are you still doing the the yeah yeah you know household
1:32:47
Universe obviously shrinks every year uh with TV but our viewership numbers are holding strong and we're able to deliver
1:32:53
so everything's been good we you know we're still shooting TV shows and everything do you aspire to uh to be
1:33:00
doing it 50 years later like Dad I don't know if TV's going to be around that long I really don't I I I mean I think I
1:33:08
think it's it's it's a everchanging platform yeah and I'm just not sure I
1:33:14
mean I am I going to be producing some type of content that has to do with the outdoors 50 years from now probably good
1:33:21
for you man probably bu thank you and the best of luck I want you to finish a
1:33:27
strong second all right we'll try all right good luck buddy Scott Martin
1:33:33
Everybody all righty Scott Martin you know I strong second I like the way you
1:33:38
ended that out there I I look at him and I see I see rolling hey isn't that
1:33:44
something the way he talks the mannerism the he's very confidence very confident
1:33:49
hey he's he's got the parts too the guy can fish man that guy I mean he's got he is he does not just uh he walks the walk
1:33:56
for sure right we have on tape and I don't know whether
1:34:02
it's airing whether it has aired whether it's going to air but we've got one of the most extraordinary 15 minutes of
1:34:09
video I think of tournament angling that we've ever seen and that was with Scott
1:34:17
and his spner Riot uh trying to land what turned out to be a a three PB fish
1:34:23
but I looked on Scott's uh YouTube site it's not up there yet so I know he has the
1:34:29
footage we gave him the footage but he hasn't put it up yet as far as I can tell so it's extraordinary you do not
1:34:36
want if you get a chance to to find it uh it may be on one of our episodes I'm not sure but uh it's an extraordinary
1:34:43
we'll have it definitely in fishing Canada in this episode this episode hits the air next year for sure but yeah that
1:34:50
was I can't believe he's been out 25 years already it's seems like was just a kid you remember when he was just
1:34:56
starting out he was a kid yeah I remember I the one thing I remember the most is we were shooting with Roland
1:35:01
when he was fishing when Scott was fishing a champagne tournament and he said yeah just that was just Scott I was just talking to him excuse me he's got
1:35:09
about 200 bedding fish Mark 200 He says Dad is that enough and I said I don't I don't think it's enough Scott you better
1:35:15
get out there and get another 200 beds Scott to go get 400 beds then he knows you're going to maybe and and
1:35:21
Scott won that tournament I believe if I'm not mistaken so anyways he's like I said before great
1:35:28
pedigree great lineage and just a wonderful human being
1:35:34
too he he just uh he's such a great Ambassador for fishing for the American
1:35:40
Fishing team uh for the outdoors any of it that's why he's doing so well on on
1:35:46
uh digitally on on his YouTube and and site and stuff uh people just gravitate
1:35:52
to him wonderful choice of captain on that team too you know what I mean you really you need somebody that's well
1:35:57
spoken and can catch fish in the whole nine yards and keep the team together he's the perfect guy for that for sure
1:36:03
anyways I hope you enjoyed it uh it was uh for it is from our standpoint for
1:36:09
special uh moments in our careers that probably will not be forgotten a chance
1:36:14
to interview these these guys uh it's always a pleasure spending time with like-minded people and even better
1:36:21
spending time with like-minded people who are driven to achieve levels that all four of these guys have and will be
1:36:28
achieving in the future for sure absolutely that are it before we sign
1:36:34
off uh I know we mentioned at the beginning of the program that we uh we have a new sponsor a new sheriff in town
1:36:41
