[Music] and now another exciting episode in The Adventures of Outdoor Journal
0:06
radio all righty then we are back thanks you thanks you thanks you everybody thanks you I thanks you Peter thanks you
0:13
everybody here at Outdoor Journal thanks you H I'm and we really loves you too we
0:19
loves you too he's Peter Bowman we have vaa over there behind the screen uh Nick
0:25
will be in and out periodically I doubt it he's not there now chair now we
0:30
should you know what we should do is we should put a picture of him on that i' put that mannequin in there but I think he's got a little more muscle than neck
0:37
do to be honest little different shape and over there is our good friend Dean Taylor Bo I'm Angelo vof in case I speak
0:46
Dean Taylor on the board right oh he's muscle all right he's all muscle he's got pipes oh baby he must be a plumber
0:51
cuz he's got a massive set of pipes on him that's that's for sure yeah him and his wife here your wife actually maybe
0:57
should get together a plumber and a welder oh well I was going to say her pipes are well she was snoring pretty
1:02
good the other night I recorded my wife snoring the other night oh yeah the other morning can't do that I did it and
1:08
I texted it to her because at the very end of it God you can't do that Peter I
1:14
I I did about 10 snores okay this was a this is all this is very organic for
1:19
here folks all night long she was doing the old snorm because my wife has some sleeping issues so she has sleeping aid
1:25
and help right and and that this was after her alarm went off she gets up
1:32
before me after her alarm she was still into the heavy snoring so she went and on a snooze she still got back into the
1:38
snor and I said that's it I had picked up my phone I picked up my phone I held
1:44
it over her head and then I texted it to her after that you can't do that and I said and at the very end of that last
1:50
snore I went back I said all fan night that's all I said and I and send you
1:57
can't do that anymore why it's my wife it doesn't matter you that's tot you're
2:02
insensitive when you do things like that I'm I've ever been sensitive well no but now you need to be more aware of your
2:10
you know surroundings be a little more if I go to jail for this one buddy then then the system has totally crushed and
2:17
and forget it let's all just hang ourselves because that's it there's nothing worse let's talk let's be honest
2:22
about it you know I both been exposed to some of the we've been exposed to world
2:28
class snores in our tenure yeah yeah we have world class nothing short of world
2:33
and and I got to tell you no matter how you want a foot around it no matter how you want to be delicate about it no matter how you it's just an awful
2:41
no delicate maneuvering involved just an awful thing it is so if you're SN I love
2:46
you honey sorry but that's you know the reality of it is and and the unfortunate part is that the person doing snoring
2:53
obviously is innocent I mean they're getting a great sleep they're getting a great sleep they get the best sleep ever when they're deep like that that's it
2:59
they're they're in heaven while you're in Hell God Almighty I I it just brings
3:05
back all the memories of of getting caught with we heard Stevie when the power went
3:12
off this year St is about St Steve n Wiki world class world class first sure
3:18
world class maybe the champ Big Brother Reno Viola Reno he'd be like legendary yeah yeah yeah yeah Dave
3:25
delori oh my God Dave delori about the size of Dean right he was wasn't a big guy he wasn't even not even as bigest
3:32
Dean and that Davey yeah Davey had some some beef to that snore didn't he and
3:37
would we say that the greatest you know the goat of snores in our world would be
3:44
I thought it would have been one of those three guys but you got somebody else coming up um oh my god um um um um um how can I
3:54
say can I oh you're trying to hint you know the name I know I just want to give you a hint okay uh we we had to throw
4:00
Footwear at her oh Blair Blair lock Blair lock Blair lock literally yeah he
4:07
ripped up the tent there's no doubt about it he he lit her up good there's there's no doubt about the volume and
4:14
the depth of Blair snor Budd I think it put him on a slightly different level
4:21
than the other three characters that we just met you remember though the lodge owner he was in the next cabin we could hear him snoring to he was in a
4:28
cabin 100 by the way guys I I tend to snore a little bit what why is he
4:34
telling us this he's not even in the same building we're at he was he like across the field in another
4:39
Shack well we know what he meant yeah we've met some pros in our day we need to have an international snoring contest
4:46
or something God anyway sorry if we offended all of snorers but you know
4:52
they don't care they sleep well they're good they're good with it the worst part about snores I gotta tell you
5:00
is that they also and it's got to be part of the mechanism that's involved in
5:05
the snoring process because all snores can sleep at the snap of a finger yeah yeah
5:12
they go down quick they can be talking to you and just in mid sentence start
5:17
snoring well we know the champ Reno was the champ of that he could he was still taking his clothes off he he was still
5:24
he was still getting into his pajamas as he starts sing and it it's something inherent in in snorers that they can
5:31
sleep like that and the problem with that is that generally on the other side
5:37
of that track is the non snore and inherent with non snores is that they
5:42
don't generally sleep too good well that's right my we'll get off of this real quick my favorite memory of Reno
5:49
was when we were at uh pilot Lake in that little cabin we're all sitting there so Reno says guys I'm going to bed
5:55
cuz Reno always tapped out early I'm out I'm going boys I don't care Maro we're we're having a beer here and we're
6:01
talking I don't care I'll sleep but so we're like we're literally at the same level that we're talking right now and
6:07
all of us laughing and hooting and hollering and within a second of hitting that pillow he is snoring while we're
6:12
yelling and screaming and and having a good time unreal the guy was the pro of all Pros like he was the best at that
6:19
camp then get up of course you get up earlier than everybody else cuz you got the best s hey hey hey everybody get up he what are you doing you sleep all day
6:25
let's go it's like freaking dark for four more hours and
6:31
oh we had some great times God the best a crew we had was the best REO we love you buddy we got to get you on the road
6:37
again I was just talking to him the other day nothing's changed he's still the same old guy I love him anyways
6:44
let's get on with the program sh uh wonderful show today we're will be joined a little later on uh gentleman's
6:50
name is Rob rine and he um aside from running a jmb Marine in Timmons and
6:58
Sudbury uh he also has recently started a new Enterprise and think of the
7:04
concept here so what they do they it's not just boat rental but it is a summer
7:11
boat rental package that they deliver to your cottage so as an example if you
7:16
want a pontoon boat because you've never owned one before and you think wow you know what pontoon boat might be great
7:22
for the cottage rather than making the investment a buying one you you rent it
7:28
for the season they drop it off they show you how to operate it comes fully equipped with everything you you need in
7:34
terms of safety gear Etc and then at the end of the season you predetermine what that end of the season is they come they
7:42
pick it up they take it away and it's all over that's awesome so he's going to join us it's a fascinating when he first
7:49
told me about this I was just beside myself cuz I think it's just such a great uh uh business it's going to it's
7:56
going to be fantastic I love that um so he'll come up in the program a little later on he's also a great guy to talk
8:02
to about the Marine industry which of course is who knows where it's at at any given time anymore up down inventory no
8:09
inventory prices interest I mean it's just all over the place y uh but first
8:14
we have to talk about fishing canada.com not because we have to because we want to yeah because it's a a wonderful place
8:20
to be heck yeah fishing canada.com uh as you go there you can also go to the shop
8:27
uh shop. fishing Canada or you can go to fishing can.com and push on the store whichever it is or
8:34
back and forth during while yeah my wife's into that now by the way oh let's
8:40
let's break off again I like this organic stuff I didn't think I'd ever see this she's into fishing canon.com
8:46
might well could be I I don't know I don't look over her shoulder my wife now watches television while doing this what
8:53
do you mean sorry on her device oh she's got she watch TV no we're watching The Voice or whatever we're watching and now
9:01
she's oh yeah I think my wife's on that finally I I I I couldn't believe it I
9:07
couldn't live she's on she's there now I do it on commercials sometimes I'll do it on commercials sometimes I'll look at
9:12
the phone do a scroll or something depends depends on why a lot of times I don't but sometimes I do but anyways if
9:20
you are uh that type you can uh read all the wonderful stories we'll highlight a
9:25
few here's a scenario on Saturday morning at 8:15 you're watching the fish and Canada television on the TV and you
9:32
are then going to our website fishing canada.com and while I go over to shop.
9:37
fish canada.com and I can buy a hat there I can do that read that article there I can watch Ang excuse me hey
9:44
that's a wonderful idea see see for that purpose I think it's wonderful I think
9:50
it's great Two Face bastard I think it's wonderful that you multitask it it's
9:55
good for the brain I love it as long as it's fishing fishing fishing fishing F that's great the trifactor of fishing
10:01
Canada we're good to go we're doing good uh there is a winter sale going on right now apparently on fishing Canada uh
10:07
Store the store shop. you got some more merch in too didn't you brand new I haven't even seen it up there yet but
10:13
I'm assuming it's there now uh there's some great new stuff we're adding stuff as we go I know I know um you might look
10:20
at it say well hell where was this stuff a few weeks ago when I did my Christmas shopping
10:27
well you know what uh going on every day it's it's going up all the time and and
10:32
this is not the only Christmas that we are going to be together we'll have Christmas next year and the year after
10:38
that and year after that so we're just going to keep adding just keep adding and then keep buying and keep telling us what you want and then uh we'll all live
10:45
happily ever after and there's also a poll there we really appreciate if you would participate uh when you go to the
10:51
store and check out all the new wonderful uh winter sale items uh there's a poll that we'd like you to
10:58
take and it it will help us better understand what your wants and needs are because you'll tell us you'll check off
11:05
all the items that we've got listed there check this I need this I want that and I need the other I particularly love
11:11
the Plaid I think all those red plaids uh there's some new ones there's three or four new pieces canadi the hats the I
11:20
think anything plaid is just wonderful absolutely absolutely agreed all righty
11:25
listener feedback yes sir we got one from d Buran I'm going to call it Buran
11:31
hopefully B Buran Buran yeah that's kind of an interesting uh via Spotify and
11:37
Daren says greatest outdoor podcast well I could just leave it at that you know what I mean we that's is good enough but
11:43
only thing that would make it even better is to get Black Angus and the old crew back in once in a while those were
11:50
the good days and you are so right there thanks thanks for saying that they were so special like that like black angle
11:57
Sean Kelly what a character I remember the transition of Sean when he got in there the first time he didn't even want
12:02
to do it he was so nervous he was like a train wreck his first episode by the end
12:07
he was the one of our favorite you know holy smokes W stellic yeah and
12:14
reeno and obviously who's this guy who's that hippie only mael I like that shirt he's got on there Mellow Yellow um with
12:22
Sean by the end of that remember how his character just transformed into one of the funniest guys he had this this sense
12:28
of cold oh my God he was such a talent you're right we got to get that team back they
12:34
all were schy I mean oh my God schy was outstanding Jonathan winter character
12:39
they right of course that's where gour piser um first got his uh moniker and
12:45
and personality when when he graduated University to become a doctor when when I anointed him a doctor you know how
12:51
that came about eh what well because by the way for those of you wondering what the hell we're talking
12:57
about uh Darren B buan uh is referencing
13:02
the old Outdoor Journal radio show before it became a podcast and for the
13:08
better part of 20 some odd years we had about four or five characters that were
13:14
sort of co-hosting the episode each and every week and they all kind of developed their own style and their own
13:21
character and after a while I mean they became uh you know I I think I think
13:26
Black Angus and and Sean Kelly probably was as recognizable a character
13:33
in terms of voice um as as the show itself oh absolutely you know absolutely
13:39
and same with with Brad Scher of course all your little segments that you had G Jack Summers were all great characters
13:45
they were fantastic but anyways and everybody looked forward to it you always got letters you know we always emails and stuff great for sure and the
13:52
CEST don't forget the Countess she was big on the radio show from Sand stash yes um she was
13:59
another character we should we should bring them all on Dean can we can we do that that' be a good Show A Reunion Show
14:05
oh my be nice yeah Reunion Show I like that we have the desk and there's no
14:11
time limits time constraints you know what I mean cuz back then okay guys we're going to cut you short and if they want to throw a little in there
14:18
or something like that they can do that too you know what I mean there's a there's lots of uh I like stuff we could use I like it thank you Darren for
14:25
pointing that out to us and yes we will endeavor to bring the crew back at some point uh and thank you to Darren for
14:31
being a longtime listener because obviously he's stuck with this whole system no kidding a lot of people transition from the I remember I have to
14:39
be honest with you um one of the characters on that show was the actual producer Steve
14:45
labid Stevie he became like a regular guy on show right because I used to talk to him on yeah you know constantly like
14:53
right kind Dean yeah and uh I remember him telling me one time I don't know
14:59
what the year was but let's let's say it was 10 years ago um he said you know
15:04
boss he says we should really do put this out as a podcast this show as a
15:10
podcast imagine podcast what do you mean podcast what the hell is a podcast he says yeah he says yeah he says well we
15:17
record it and uh and then we'll make it available for people to listen to
15:22
whenever they want and I said why the hell would I want to do that is well because that's no you would
15:29
never say that swear God no I know you would say that I know I said so let me understand this so you want me to spend
15:34
more money cuz I know there's going to be production money involved right this is some yeah okay and you want me to to
15:41
to to put up a what do I what is it a a platform of some kind I have to pay into
15:46
to have podcast yeah yeah yeah I said okay so you want me to spend more money in order for people not to tune in
15:54
live every Saturday morning at 8:00 can you tell me in what universe that makes
15:59
any sense well yeah I never thought of it that way you're right you're probably
16:07
right so anyways another good character though Stevie he was great love that guy
16:12
he was fantastic he was great the the relationship and I had on Great
16:18
fantastic going together yeah I missed them all those were the good old days man I I so much look you know this
16:23
podcast thing is fun and I'm having a an absolute blast doing it but I have to tell you there is something about
16:31
live that just cannot be replaced yeah yeah You' always likeed that you've always liked that yeah it's live there's
16:38
no replacing it you you're on everything counts everything matters so so it's
16:44
different than this this is a little more laid-back it's fun it's great because it gives us I mean we have
16:50
virtually no boundaries which you do in live um you you your delivery can be
16:57
whatever it it needs to be that particular moment in time which you can't do in live everything is timed
17:05
there it's not here so it's a different world I love it but there's nothing like
17:10
live I always used to tell people live is like jumping out of a plane yeah every Saturday morning when that red
17:16
light went on jump and hope that the shoot will open at some point before you hit the ground yeah and sometimes it did
17:23
sometimes it didn't you're dead seor anyways uh thanks for bringing back
17:29
to Memories Darren yeah uh if you want to give us some feedback uh how do they
17:35
do that Dean like Darren just did what what did they I'm pulling them from everywhere now so he left his on Spotify
17:40
in the comments I pulled them from YouTube off the videos I'm taking them from everywhere now but preferent if
17:47
we'd prefer you to go to Apple podcast and leave an actual review because that helps us in the rankings it helps us
17:53
everywhere the YouTube stuff is awesome it helps with engagement but if you can and you listen to it on Apple if you
17:59
could go there and leave a review it' be appreciated so the Spotify rating just to get is not as effective for us it
18:05
doesn't help us no we have like 700 reviews there they do nothing for us in the charts wow yeah that crazy mhm can
18:13
we can we folks can we do anything to alter that send them to Apple yeah
18:19
that's all you can do go buy an iPhone yeah do you have to have an iPhone Apple don't okay another good point there too
18:26
yeah people should know that so cool speaking of uh podcasts uh how about the
18:31
network our podcast Network the Highlight it's not just a a show although that's how it started life it
18:39
uh is a full Network now we have a bevy of talented uh podcasters on the Outdoor
18:46
Journal Network one of the group is it's the program is called eating wild and uh I know I can't say stuff
18:54
like this because the other guys get back to me and oh here we go no but they do you know and I feel for each and
19:01
every one of them listen it's it's a starting a new gig is never easy uh it's
19:07
increasingly more difficult when the boss doesn't Pat you on the back near enough but the folks at eating wild
19:13
though they get a lot of Pats in the back anonio and the boys are doing a great job they are doing a good job um
19:20
episode 21 is highlighted right now as we speak it's called The Power of be
19:25
meat with Dave Gray is this the latest one Dean their latest one uh not not by
19:31
the time this comes out but it's a good one it's a good one that's why we're highlighting this y I like the sound uh
19:38
uh guest is Dave gray and he cured his MS symptoms wow through a wild game diet
19:47
that's amazing you got to go there you got to listen to this podcast I have not heard this one yet so I'm you have to go
19:53
there it is so compelling now that is listen whether it works for for
19:58
everybody or not I do not know but I do believe that in this particular case it worked and it worked extremely well hey
20:06
V hey eating meat isn't so bad sometimes buddy if it does you know if it does
20:12
that kind of stuff V's always shaking no he doesn't give a I'll say that anyways he uh he ate primarily fish and
20:20
bare meat I wonder if it's like if wonder if he'd have done moose or venison or boy I had venison last night
20:27
night before I had Vena I rarely get venisa but Mike Mikey burus gave us four chops one per family member and oh my
20:34
God that stuff is good I love it it's moose is we didn't even marinate it so
20:39
normally you marinate because there's the gy stuff and the fatty stuff I just love I love the gaming stuff even more I
20:46
like better non marin oh my sorry I interrupted but it was so good so good that I love I wonder if if there's
20:52
something too bare meat Dean do you know if there's something too bare meat that it makes it uh I think the like the F
20:58
content was really helpful but he mostly talked about um just cutting out carbs and any like processed meat was the
21:06
biggest one because you don't really know what you're like what you have a lot of the time when you buy it from the
21:11
store so I think like honestly if you went to the like the Butcher and really knew what you were eating you could probably get similar results but so
21:18
because because let's be honest our our North American at least are Canadian let's just say but I'm sure North
21:23
American diets are not very good even when you try to be good at it you're probably not doing yourself a whole lot
21:30
of good even though we you know what the hell you want to live and have fun and eat what you like to taste and all that stuff but there's a lot of in food
21:37
nowadays that probably isn't helping you and this kind of goes the opposite ways that you know like there's foods that
21:43
are out there that could be a benefit the opposite of that so I I I think this is amazing I I can't wait to listen to
21:49
this one a it's a must it's an absolute must I listened to their their I just listened to the St Clair one I don't
21:55
know an if you heard that one the Lake St Clair one that was great Mr Mr Dean drop shot Taylor on there they gave a
22:02
nickname on there they even told me that you gave yourself that nickname I did not tell you they they're bullshitting
22:08
everybody now they're saying yeah Dean gave that to himself cuz he catch his smallo all the way I got to I got to call those boys out again but it was a
22:15
great it was a listen to that you got to listen to that episode as well folks because um there was something in there
22:21
that I heard and I could not believe my ears about the competitive factor of
22:26
musky Anglers on Lake St CLA and what they're doing and how close they're fishing to each other and and these
22:32
little uh inner battles that they're getting it's insane so it's a great podcast to listen to It's called eating
22:37
wild and it's on the Outdoor Journal radio network uh podcast Network as we
22:43
speak uh there are as I said before there's more than just them um you'll
22:48
also find the rest of our podcasters Dean yep which are the ugly Pike podcast
22:54
yep Doo di of a doo he doesn't like that he Under The Canopy
23:01
of course Stevie Doo Under The Canopy y yep with Jerry wallette yep and uh we
23:08
miss anybody you we have the The Tackle Box as well tackle box as well perfect
23:13
there you go all happening right now uh if you want podcast this is the place to be and uh check it out and leave a
23:21
comment check let us know what you in the news Mr Bowman yes uh this is a good
23:27
story Northern United States uh DNR capture 323 invasive carb so this is a
23:35
what no I'm just saying that in itself is not big news but well just capturing
23:40
them I mean you know but the way they capture so the natural resources uh in
23:46
Minnesota and Wisconsin they teamed up for this uh in a in a a pool basically it's called a pool six of Miss
23:52
Mississippi River and uh they captured 296 silver carp 23 grass carp and four
24:00
bige head carp but the interesting uh Story the part of the story is how they captured them so they literally
24:07
precapture some invasive carp put a tagging system in Electro tagging system
24:13
into these fish re-released them back into the water tracked those fish and by
24:19
those by most fish being a schooling type of uh you know grouping type of species they could capture a bunch so
24:26
they Dro one or two tag in and all of a sudden they're catching 300 fish because of it you know Ian I'm sure this is not the first time that somebody at DNR or
24:35
M&R F or any of the other came up with that idea probably not but it's very
24:41
obviously very effective fish that are schooler muskies maybe not musky being
24:46
individual fish if you're trying you know they turn into individual fish so much but these guys being School a few years ago I'll let you in on a little
24:52
secret oh finally okay this we're out in the water all the time you should be be telling me
24:58
every secret ago I I a few years ago I met a gentleman an
25:05
American on um Eerie no St Clair one of
25:12
those two Lakes we were we were probably pre-fishing a tournament or shooting a show wear your hockey helmet on St Clair
25:18
after you listen to that podcast ad yeah want to wear a football helmet it's rough out there so so an American
25:25
tournament anger that I ran into to I'm going back now 30 years maybe
25:32
35 he was doing that oh yeah he was
25:38
implanting it was smallmouth bass or maybe walleye can Garlock was a Dicky
25:43
Garlock was Dicky gar I think it was Garlock he used to do scuba diving I think it was Garlock really so he was
25:49
doing a program very similar to that except he was doing it for his own purposes and that was to find schooling
25:56
fish and you shouldn't be saying this somebody's going to be doing this now well I think it's totally illegal oh it's got to be totally illegal uh but he
26:04
was doing it back 35 years ago wow and uh and then doing the same thing an
26:09
electro tag in a six PB small mouth in the mouth of the St Lawrence River and have follow have it follow its
26:17
buddies let her go and then um Wow have at it yeah so it's totally illegal do
26:24
not do that I only brought it up because it's kind connected to the news story that's funny what a great way of of
26:31
capturing then then I'm sure through netting and electros shocking what they did here to capture the you know you get
26:37
the area that you know where these fish are in especially with electroshocking you got your tag sending out a signal
26:43
okay boys let's shock right in this little area right here as big as this office but all we've been involved in
26:48
shocking programs pretty they're pretty cool Dean did it DEA oh yeah you guys watch that too
26:55
we got a bow fin yeah yeah that was pretty cool to see surpris knock one of those things out because they're freaking tough as Nails we did it in uh
27:03
in B large bass in Florida somewhere a few years back oh my God a lot of years back that was crazy pretty neat how they
27:10
how they do that just we'll we'll get just talk we quick about that but they got these probes that go into the water and they set a certain amount of voltage
27:15
I think there's hardly any amperage I think it's all about voltage on that one and we have to be cuz if you had
27:22
amperage going on usually amperage kills the humans I don't know what it does you know in water through water and all that stuff but
27:28
um but anyways these fish they turn up they it shocks them they turn up real quick up the surface and you're thinking okay it'll be easy picking uhuh they
27:34
come too as fast as they come up so they come up to the they they have to get their Nets out there real quick and scoop them up and put them into a big
27:39
cooler then they uh you know they do little fin samples and their little scale samples and all of a sudden these fish are perfect they drop them back in
27:46
the water and they swim away like like nothing happen so it was crazy that was ex and you see you see wouldn't believe
27:51
how many fish would come up like in one area what was surprising about that experience for me was it just showed you
27:58
because you know we will we'll fish miles and miles of undercut you know
28:03
bank for example if your large Mo bass fishing you'll go miles without a snip and all of a sudden boop boop boop three
28:09
fish well this really exemplified that because we would go literally for for
28:16
several hundred yards with nothing and then all of a sudden one little part would have 20 30 fish come up to the
28:23
surface how they all group together different sizes your B fish group with your pan fish or pan fish group with
28:28
your bass because they're all kind of feeding on each other sort of thing right and the bait fish are there because the maybe the microorganisms or
28:34
whatever it is like yeah crazy anyway an interesting story it's on fishing canada.com as we speak it's in the news
28:41
section I'm assuming that's correct Dean you feel free to jump in and and straighten me out any time I when you're
28:47
correct he doesn't need to straighten you out I see see you're on the straight and narrow F you know very very quickly again that in that same sense I was just
28:54
on the bay quiny with Mikey bur last weekend and we drove our garment traditional screen over so much dead
29:00
water dead water dead water trying to get and finally that thing started to light up Bait fish Walley leg throat
29:06
everything boom started catching fish it's funny that they are you're right they just group up in certain areas you
29:12
know what I mean so bait is obviously the key we think it's the key we think the Predators are there because the bait
29:17
is there but there's got to be a reason why the bait is there and I think that's
29:23
probably the most important key of all yeah it is is is why is food there you
29:28
know what you know what my quick theory on that one was and that instance we found the fish in the deepest water out
29:36
there so 120 plus feet of water they weren't in the 80s they weren't in the 60s or so maybe the bait fish feel
29:42
secure maybe more secure in that deep dark water where they can go up or down
29:47
or whatever maybe think about it in shallower water they've got limitations
29:52
they got the surface and they've got the feel confined too exactly whereas in big open water they have that's my comfort
30:00
level yeah H so it's nothing really that draws them there other than the vastness
30:06
of their surroundings it's not like they're there because of temperature not because they're feeding on for sure not
30:11
temperature for sure now maybe it's food but it's for sure not temperature you know what I mean so interesting fishing
30:18
so interesting all the time uh fan question of the week Mr Bowman yes this
30:23
is submitted by another name I'm going to have to try and not butcher here Anthony starich starich now there's a
30:30
youu in there buddy starich starich staruch St St I would go with s a r
30:38
UA sorry about that Anthony Manitoba Canada I'm assuming it came into us by
30:44
via yeah email fishing info fishing canada.com y so uh Anthony States
30:51
obviously the first rule should be it's up to you to check conditions and work within your own personal risk level but
30:58
with the slow freeze of this season what is your Angelo is mine I'm assuming
31:04
Comfort level for getting out on first ice that's a great question it's timed
31:09
perfectly as it's about to happen it's happening North there are some standards that uh are put out in this part of the
31:16
World by M&R each year uh and I believe that's what we're quoting here yeah so
31:22
they're stating that 4 in is the absolute minimum amount of Bice Anglers should look for when heading out onto a
31:30
lake I think that um that may be correct according to them
31:41
I would not suggest and the problem I say this and and hear me out before we go any further there is never going to
31:47
be a totally consistent sheet of ice that you can run for Miles without it
31:53
changing from you know 10 in to 6 in to 7 in to to 2 in to 4 in etc etc and and
32:00
and that's dictated by all kinds of natural elements so you're never going to find an absolute perfect sheet of ice
32:06
so when they're saying 4 in you can't feel really comfortable
32:13
knowing full well that there could be some two two 2 and 1/2 in areas up ahead
32:18
without you knowing yet right so picture what Angelo is saying ice surface is like this beautiful it's flat all the
32:25
way along but underneath that changes up and down up and down all over the place place so 4 in they're saying
32:32
is bare minimum yeah okay but but it have to has to be consistently 4 in in order to to really feel
32:39
comfortable uh for those with sleds and ATVs and other motorized vehicles other than you know a truck or a car um you
32:47
got to have at least in my opinion 6 in they're saying five I always like to error on the side of caution uh I would
32:55
say 6 in if you're going to run a snowmobile or an ATV across a she device
33:00
6 in as a bare minimum uh according to M&R that uh that will hold support
33:07
around 1,200 lb 6 Ines so that's perfectly fine tv sco sleds you know
33:13
snow machine stuff like that the most important one and this is the one where I used to report every Saturday morning
33:20
from you know first week of January till mid-march um
33:27
this is where you want to drive your vehicle out on the ice where you want to take a truck you want to tow a a a Hut
33:33
you want to you know like that whole business to me
33:40
uh I would say that 12 to 15 in would be the depth of ice that I would look
33:47
for although once again &r is saying 8 to 15 mhm my problem with 8 to 15 is
33:53
what I said about the 4 in it's not consistent you you could get some 6
33:59
in uh ice some 4in ice while you're traveling along and that's when I used
34:04
to report every Saturday morning the people that would go through the ice on Lake Simco that the op and RCMP
34:10
helicopters had to go out and it seems to happen there more than anywhere Brut
34:16
but quiny ice is horrible too but I just had a thought here I bet you if you said
34:21
if you were up on Lake of the Woods or smaller way up North Northwestern Ontario you said you had 5 in of ice up
34:27
there I bet it's a lot different than 5 in of ice down here I think down here in the South this got we got such crazy
34:33
weather patterns hot cold H it's insane you know what I mean up there when it gets cold and there's 5 Ines of ice I'll
34:39
bet you or Manitoba maybe for Anthony here you know if he's in Northern Manitoba I bet you 5 inches up there no
34:45
matter what it's probably good ice solid ice yeah it could be all I know is when I was young and for all you younger
34:52
Anglers that like to get out there and do your thing oh I got to get out there yeah don't do what I did I used to take
34:59
that Spud and I'd walk around on the Bay of quiny and I'd go pop okay that's good take another step oh no pop okay
35:07
that's good through the don't do that I've done that before and I'm not proud of it because I did it once in my life
35:13
and I was so scared and I didn't get any fish that day I didn't get any I I will not be doing that again I didn't go that
35:19
far offshore but I was so stupid just that my Spud was just I could pop you know your the best ice I had was an inch
35:26
and a half so maybe you know something like that and age has nothing to do with it by the way stupidity is not limited
35:33
is not limited to like I know now back if I still had that much Gung honess I
35:38
don't think I would have I don't have that much maybe but so my age to me now what you were doing was relatively safe
35:44
relatively yeah cuz I didn't die I'm here today no no no no I mean relatively safe is could be because before you took
35:50
a step you would check the ice absolutely and if it went through you would move I'm assuming you would check
35:57
the ice over here then you would check the ice over there until you which means exactly what Angelo was saying that
36:02
underneath was not as good but I was doing that the reason I say a it's not limited to age is that our good friend
36:09
Stephen n Wiki and I speaking of dummies did exactly that not more than
36:16
wow four or five years ago just prior to pandemic whenever that was yeah okay we
36:22
wanted to go there was a cottage for sale on Lake m you guys weren't even
36:27
fishing no it was dead winter and uh we wanted to go look at it and it was on an
36:35
island and so we said well this doesn't look like it's that far from
36:40
Shore why don't we just walk it we'll stop at the local Canadian Tire and get
36:47
a couple of you know big spuds and uh we'll do that we thought yeah how bad
36:53
can it be we looked at it on the map it looked like about a half a mile you know Max to go out there maybe a
37:00
little bit longer but anyways it wasn't that far and so we did
37:05
and it was a nightmare yeah how we ended up making it there and back was totally
37:11
Beyond me cuz for the most part the ice was not thick enough it's scary isn't it like when you start Pop That Thing
37:16
through it that and what started out as a straight half mile yeah it was like 3 miles before we got we got there and
37:23
even longer coming back because by the time we decided to come back things had
37:29
changed and so we had a whole new route it was like a 5 Mile track which zigzag
37:34
bet de's done it I bet you spotted your way I've done it and it's worse in the dark it's terrifying God I would not
37:41
even in all fairness to us in all fairness to us we wore our life
37:48
inflatable life jackets yeah I think I probably had a float suit on the time so if you are going to be stupid and do
37:55
that first two things number One never ever ever do it on your own always have
38:02
at least one person with you for sure and then always always have some kind of
38:08
flotation device and make sure a big guy like Steve goes first oh I've made sure
38:14
that don't you worry about that you lead the way Steve you're pretty experienced buddy what a nightmare that was but
38:21
anyways we made it it's not something I'd recommend yeah we don't recommend it at all but that the floater suit thing
38:28
and life ja and or whatever that's a great idea that's mandatory down here like I wouldn't go out without it
38:34
anymore you have to and there's so many good ice fishing suits available now too right the float suitsy they're actually
38:41
nice exactly so and they're warm it's worth the money y y and the little spikes yes H that you have to have what
38:47
is talking about there around your neck just keep them around your neck and that that will that right there could save your life so easily but most important
38:54
don't do it on your own that's if you're up Northern Manitoba that four you know 4 Ines something like that might be a
39:00
good number um if you're in the South uh you might want to be more cautious at that so there you
39:16
go there's an adventure just outside these walls it's something you'll hate to leave and can't wait to get back to
39:23
it's a place where memories are made and bonds are forged for some it's hitting the trails for others it's a weekend at
39:30
the lake it's a place full of campfires and quality time this year takes some time to reconnect with friends family
39:37
and nature no matter what Adventures await you Coleman has the gear you need
39:43
visit Coleman canada.ca to gear up today the outside is calling answer the
39:54
call what brings people together more than fishing and hunting how about food I'm Chef Antonio Mala and I have spent
40:01
years catering to the stars now on Outdoor Journal radios eaten wild podcast luig hookset and I are bringing
40:07
our expertise and rolled X to our real passion the outdoors each week we're bringing you inside the boat tree stand
40:14
or Duck Blind and giving you real advice that you can use to make the most out of your fishing game you're going to flip
40:20
that duck breast over once you get a nice hard sear on that breast you don't want to sear the actual meat and it's
40:26
not just us chatting here if you can name a celebrity we've probably worked with them and I think you might be
40:32
surprised who likes to hunt and fish when kit Harrington asked me to prepare him sushimi with his bass I couldn't say
40:38
no whatever Taylor shared and wanted I made sure I had it Burgers Ste anything off the barbecue that's a true Cowboy
40:44
all Jeremy rener wanted to have was lemon ginger shots all day find eating wild now on Spotify Apple podcast or
40:51
wherever else you get your podcast all righty let's jump into the meat and potatoes of the episode as we mentioned
40:57
at the beginning of the program a very unique uh uh company although it's not a separate
41:03
company I don't think we'll find out here in a minute uh just it came to light for us about boat rentals in this
41:08
country which is something that's been needed for such a long time joining us now is the president of jmb cycle uh Rob
41:15
rine Rob how you doing bud hey I'm good how you guys doing we're doing great Rob
41:20
great um am I right is is J and B psycho and Marine sort of spearheading this
41:27
Freedom um uh Cruise seasonal boat rental thing or is it all one or separate or how's it work so it is a
41:34
separate Corporation um although it is tied to J B cyc and Marine um from an
41:39
inventory standpoint so that's where the boats are purchased from so from J&B cycle how did you come up with J&B cycle
41:46
your name's Rob rine yeah that goes back you knew that was com I was a year old
41:52
when it was founded so oh right I wasn't involved at that time I didn't get involved with j b cycle till 2006 so
41:59
yeah it uh okay okay A little bit of history for both of you gentlemen uh this is not my first brush with jmb
42:05
cycle okay uh I met the original jmbb cycle uh
42:11
owner I'm trying to think of the year but it it would have been I'm going to
42:17
say I'm going to say 78 wow 77 on the number 77 19 78 uh we
42:27
were my brother and I were um Distributing a product called Vespa scooters the company was actually piao
42:35
which is Fiat and uh we were the Canadian Distributors for the scooter
42:40
and mopeds and and three wheeled little uh truck things that they they had and
42:47
uh I remember making a trek in the dead of winter to Northern Ontario to visit
42:53
with jmb cycle w and they may have been they may have been the very first Ontario
43:01
Northern Ontario let me straighten that out because we had a shop in Toronto that was handling them um Northern
43:07
Ontario retailer of vesa scooters yeah that's cool and it was J&B cycle look at that look at the history you brought out
43:13
here this morning I know so that's kind of cool beautiful um so I guess it's no
43:19
uh it shouldn't be strange to think that J andb cycle can wander off the beaten path every once in a while if they can
43:24
sell vesa scooters surely to they can rent boats which is a fantastic idea
43:29
tell us about it Rob well that's the one thing about being as far north as we are is the you have to be diverse so you
43:37
have to be everything to everyone in in many cases because our seasons are far
43:43
too short so we couldn't be sustainable at the level that we are you know volume
43:49
wise with just marine or just snowmobiles or anything else for that matter so we need to be we what what I I
43:56
call a family big box so when you come into our store it's very diverse clothing Parts uh you know we sell I
44:02
always say we sell everything but airplanes wow literally we do you know from hot hot tubs to barbecues to
44:10
tractors name it yeah we've got it all so okay cool the the notion of renting a
44:16
boat for a season well it's not new because we used to be able to rent fishing small fishing boats right that
44:23
used to be the deal when you go camping my remember my dad and I and my and my brother we used to go rent in in Pickton
44:28
we'd rent a boat for a week and go we' brought our own motor and we put it on a rental boat you could rent the motor and boat that was different that's a little
44:35
14ot aluminum fishing boat sort of thing right now we're moving on this is different and when I when Rob first told
44:40
me about it I thought you know what I got to look into this but I don't think anybody's doing that in Canada and sure as hell I checked I couldn't find
44:47
anybody that's doing what they're doing what they're doing is delivering a boat to your cottage for the season totally
44:53
tell us about that Rob yeah so it's uh you're right in saying that the boat rental uh concept
45:00
is not new so you know but it's been daily rentals hourly rentals in some cases weekly and then now monthly and
45:07
the monthly stuff I think is playing into the Airbnb uh product as well that's where you're seeing the monthly
45:14
um boat rental play in in the US we saw um something called the boat clubs so
45:20
this is where you put down x amount of dollars you became a club member and then for so many dollars a month
45:27
basically you could access a boat well in Canada that's a little more difficult because you know we we don't have 11 and
45:34
a half months of boating like they do in Florida um so when we first explored that concept it just didn't work um in
45:42
in the sense of a business model and having someone make payments over the course of you know the winter The Long
45:48
Winter so this idea uh played off some of what um the automotive industry has
45:54
done with uh automobile wheel leasing or car leasing you know that everybody is driving around with today and that's
46:01
kind of where we began um exploring how that would work for us in our Market
46:08
where you know we would get good used product back um and also for the consumer that it made sense from a
46:14
price-wise for them I I correct me if I'm wrong but I
46:20
thought that there was somebody trying this in Toronto um the Freedom so there is
46:27
freedom uh boat club that's out of the US and I believe they have locations in Toronto
46:33
Hamilton they may be Kingston uh area I'm not quite sure you'd have to look
46:38
them up but yes they are they are making their way in the bigger centers it it might make S sense in you know
46:45
accessibility and that sort of thing as you go further north again with the season being so short it's a little
46:51
tougher that's where our concept is a little bit um more catered
46:56
uh to that market The Cottage Country and north right so those boats behind you rob those two big Princecraft uh
47:03
pontoon boats they are available for people to rent for an entire summer sort of thing something like that yeah
47:09
exactly so um the ponon boat platform has been the thrust behind our program
47:15
uh although we do have um fiberglass run boats um we have uh fishing boats uh
47:22
that you can have as well the pontoon boat has has certainly been uh the one
47:28
vehicle that has been the most popular and I think the reason for that is is the number of people that you can get on
47:34
board so the number of people that get to experience that uh is far greater than than it would be in a let's say a
47:41
16 foot side console right um and price-wise you know we've tried to to
47:46
kind of you know hit that sweet spot where it makes sense for someone to rent for the season rather than to own a boat
47:54
for 10 15 years yeah I think the interesting concept too
47:59
and and and those boats that you just referred to um the pontoon boats are the perfect example of that some people that
48:05
have Cottages you know maybe have had a Runabout a family Runabout for the last 20 years and they've always thought boy
48:12
it'd be kind of cool to see see everybody drive by neighbors but they got to be I don't
48:17
know whether I want to get one buy one of those or not but boy what a great opportunity now no kidding to try it
48:23
because it's relatively inexpensive Rob will give us some see here in a minute but what a great opportunity to try your
48:29
boat before you make that investment of buying the boat and see I think it's fantastic or or even the the the
48:35
opposite what I was talking about earlier if you got your little 14ot tinner that's all you fish out of and you're always seeing these guys in the
48:41
nice fishing boats going by a big Prince craft a 17ft Princecraft whatever maybe you know I'm not sure what Rob is
48:46
available they you can probably get you into something close to that you know in in your life and try it for a year and say wow okay that's it now I'm ready to
48:54
go or you might think hey you know what I don't mind this because every year I get to get a new
48:59
boat I can get some new toys on it I can get a different size I can get a different configuration why would I want
49:06
to buy one y that's got to be what's happening with your customers I'm sure Rob and oddly enough 50% of our
49:13
clientele own other boats okay okay so when we when we deliver specifically
49:18
with the pontoon boat when we deliver the pontoon boat odds are that there is another boat on the dock when we get
49:24
there or in the boat house M wow so you know to give you a couple of examples um you've got the
49:31
grandparents who have a cottage that they've had for you know ever in the family they have an older glass boat or
49:38
they have a a woody or they have something else that sits there that they use that they enjoy to you know to run a
49:43
boat the lake with but all of a sudden now they're having the extended family or the grandkids are coming up for a
49:49
couple weeks or a month this summer well for them to to go and buy a boat to suit
49:55
that those couple of weeks or a month it really you know it doesn't really make sense where this way as I said we
50:01
deliver the boat in the spring uh it comes fully equipped so the life jackets
50:07
the the all the safety equipment the licensing the insurance
50:12
uhing insurance the moing lines the bumpers everything's there we put it on your dock uh we give you an instruction
50:20
on on obviously how to use it all the features benefits all that good stuff and we're always phone call away if you
50:26
have any questions and basically you know it's your boat for this for the whole summer when you're done with it in
50:32
the fall you basically call us a week prior or or something like that and say okay guys I'm done we're leaving here
50:39
next week we we show up we pick up the boat it goes away that's it see that's huge too the no storage thing right like
50:45
that's just storage is always no wintering EXA exactly in your driveway
50:51
if you got a storage place how much is that going to cost you for storage and all the yeah yeah that's that's pretty amazing actually now these are new boats
50:59
I'm assuming Rob so that yeah that's that's the the other beauty of this program we've all rented cars we've all
51:06
you know booked the Mustang convertible and and got there and they said wellow we're sorry sir you know the the Mustang
51:13
didn't make it back it's l but we have the Toyota Camry over here really nice car by the way it's the same color is
51:19
the Mustang yeah exactly so this in this case again you there is flexibility in
51:26
color and models we have everything from 14 foot to 23 foot in the fleet and we
51:31
can go larger for those customers that want something kind of off the menu but
51:37
for all intensive purposes we have a you know kind of the the cookie cutter models that kind of fit the fit the best
51:43
mold sort of thing and uh yeah you can get so we have rear Lounge models we
51:49
have uh trune models and we have as small as a 14 foot fishing model in a
51:54
pontoon all right let me ask you a question so I'm a customer of yours and I had a wonderful experience with one of
52:00
those beautiful little Princecraft uh boats behind you but um during the
52:07
summer my neighbor showed me this beautiful
52:12
trune 40-footer with two 300s on the back and it had the electric bimy cover
52:20
and all the bar and the thing and stuff like that and hey guess what Princecraft makes that boat
52:25
could they come to you a year in advance and say hey Rob next year I want to rent
52:31
that beautiful 40ft trune with the two 300 horsepower motors on the back
52:37
absolutely there there's definitely as I said we'll go off menu for any any of those requests and we've had a couple of
52:44
them um and we're working through those actually for this for this spring some people that want a specific model so
52:52
there's two parts to that one is when when we deliver the the boat uh we have the rental agreement which is pretty
52:57
standard and then we give you uh a copy of the bill of sale so in a in a sense that if you wanted to we'll call it a
53:04
quotation so when if you wanted to purchase the boat at the end of the season when we wouldn't pick it up you
53:10
know the number if your neighbor wants to buy the boat or your brother-in-law your sister-in-law your cousin whatever
53:15
it doesn't really matter to us we will extend that price to them as well okay the other side of it is if you said uh
53:23
after you've experienced this that you really enjoy enjy the boat and maybe you want that boat or you want something
53:30
different color different interior engine log configuration whatever the case may be and you were to order a boat
53:38
or purchase a boat from our our existing inventory we would give you 50% of the rental back
53:44
towards the purchase of that boat oh wow cool so it's it's almost a rent to buy
53:50
kind of a setup kind try before you buy wow that's fantastic and that same boat
53:56
let's say I I run that boat for a year and uh that's great Rob but I'm going to
54:02
get something else next year and an walks into your showroom is that boat now for sale to the general public or is
54:07
it going to be a renter next year again or so uh every boat that's delivered at
54:13
the beginning of the season is new and every one of those new boats will be sold in the fall so they go on the
54:18
market uh Midsummer we start to put them out there and we'll start taking deposits through the summer through the
54:25
fall so most all of our Fleet from this past year is sold with the exception I think there's two left that's it and I
54:32
think the important thing there because I was going to ask a question earlier on um and that was about repairs and and
54:38
you know problems that do from time to time crop up uh in boats and motors but
54:44
the fact that this is brand new product it'd be no different than you buying that product if it was going to have a
54:49
fault it'll have a fault anyways the difference here I'm sure is that if there's a problem they customer just
54:55
picks up the phone and says Rob this boat's not running and you send somebody down to fix
55:01
that yeah so I mean and to your point about being a new boat we're limiting
55:07
the exposure of there being an issue so that that is the first part of being the new boat and the same reason why we want
55:13
to uh renew the fleet every year to have a three-year-old boat with you know a couple hundred hours you're just you're
55:20
uh increasing the probability of there being an issue which we don't want to have
55:25
um you know again for with being in business for for you know 53 years um
55:31
we've got a you know pretty strong service team uh we have locations in Tim and Sudbury and now we've we've signed
55:37
up with uh Trailer World in Branford uh so we've got the Southwest covered we've got the mokas covered we've got Northern
55:44
Ontario covered so we can respond in a pretty quick fashion if we need to be obviously we're going to try to filter
55:50
through those issues over the phone uh we did see some smaller issues this last last year and as a result every boat
55:57
this year will have a battery switch ah there you go everybody's going to the battery switch you you know what
56:04
happened and why we need that oh yeah oh yeah that's a great idea I'm surprised
56:10
all boat manufactures aren't automatically putting them on the boats now although a lot of them are um yeah
56:15
now we got to get people to use the battery that's the other thing turn her off that's all you got to do people so
56:21
in you mentioned you mentioned Insurance earlier on we kind of brush through it I think it's important that we talk about
56:27
that as well and the reason being is that if if I have one of those pontoons tied to my Dock and my my son-in-law
56:37
comes up for the weekend and decides that he wants to take it out and he runs it I don't know into another boat he
56:44
runs at the ground runs it somewhere he's screwed up I'm not suggesting that my son-in-law is a screw up I don't
56:50
think would I would I be suggesting that no comment he's pretty
56:55
big uh but what happens in that case I mean is the insurance limited to the uh
57:03
contracted individual or does it extend to his family or how does how would that would that
57:08
work so um the insurance is treated very similarly to if you own the boat
57:14
yourself so think of it again if we go to the automotive leasing um the insurance is in your name
57:21
and it's also in the automaker's name or the leasing company's name right so there's two names on there our insurance
57:28
works the same way uh essentially the boat is treated as if you owned it so
57:33
the liability would be yours uh in the sense of you know something of your
57:38
actions that happened out on the water okay to your to your point about your son-in-law or anyone else for that
57:44
matter if they're a licensed voter um they they can operate the watercraft
57:50
there's no there's no issue with that however if uh I don't know if if I'm
57:56
trying to think of an example of where uh if they did something then it would fall on your record sort of thing no
58:02
differently than it would be on anything else that you owned right so that we have to drill into the the background of
58:08
you know what insurance companies do in those cases but for all intensive purposes it's just like you own the boat
58:14
it's the same thing same thing that is that is a great concept I love the idea of of uh we haven't talked price yet I'm
58:22
going to make an assumption at this point that it is priced at at a point
58:27
where people do have to look at it say wow this is this makes a lot of sense
58:32
what what we give us an indication of pricing so once again uh we deliver the
58:38
boat to you so there's the one uh caveat is there's no trailer and we've we've
58:44
eliminated the trailer from the equation because that really reduces the liability absolutely that's good
58:51
thinking right there that's good thinking right there yeah for sure when we talk about you know tow
58:57
vehicles uh you know backing down the boat ramp exact all of that stuff right
59:04
so we we kind of take that out of the picture and we we we look after that for you with by delivering it with our own
59:10
truck so our truck puts it in the water as I said it comes with everything that you need to run the boat you just add
59:16
the water um for a starting at a 14ot pontoon boat you're
59:23
looking at about uh $4200 for the season plus tax and our
59:31
most popular last year was a 21 foot with a 60 uh which was
59:37
49.95 so for five grand I've got a 20 foot pontoon boat with a 60 horsepower
59:45
motor on it for the summer yeah so there's two fees that get tacked on to that of course there's the
59:51
delivery fee and pickup which is 500 bucks so we've done that uh whether you
59:57
if we're coming from Sudbury and going to msca if we're coming from Branford and going to Lake Erie it's 500 bucks I
1:00:04
was going to ask you is there is there a delivery area that you won't go or do you go all over Ontario sort of thing or
1:00:11
so I would say we would you know from right now we're looking at uh the
1:00:16
korthas the mokas southwestern onaro that's kind of where you know um if
1:00:22
we're going to go beyond that it would be again off menu but it would be very small very small addition to that right
1:00:28
so right it's not that much more off menu from where you are I mean You' be you're talking eastern Ontario basically
1:00:34
you know like or something like that so it's not that much different really so good that's great I was wondering if it was just going to be a northern thing
1:00:40
you know or or you bran out that much further that's awesome so if I'm in the koras or the muscas and for
1:00:49
2024 next year I want to have a pontoon boat I want a 20 foot or 21 22t pontoon
1:00:58
boat sitting at my dock when I open up the cottage yep I would call you up yep
1:01:06
we would cut a deal I pay you the $4,900 I'm assuming that's paid in advance so this time year we take a
1:01:14
deposit and uh we earmark a boat uh for you and then prior to delivery call it a
1:01:21
week whatever then we uh we take balance of the payment and deliver the boat and
1:01:26
we do we could take maor credit cards we can do e transfers uh you can do a brown bag of
1:01:32
cash it really doesn't matter to us so what's the value what's the value uh he
1:01:38
knows uh he knows some of my dealings the best scooter guy started that up there I guarantee you what uh give me an
1:01:45
indication of what the value of that $5,000 boat that I'm paying you $5,000
1:01:50
for what's the value of it yeah um just to clarify so your
1:01:55
$5,000 like when we when we add the $500 delivery from we have we have to add uh
1:02:01
the uh the HST to that component so this past year for 21 footbolt with a 60
1:02:07
horsepower delivered for the season you were about $6,100 all in okay
1:02:13
61 I got it my card my card will handle that so I'm good with that now what's
1:02:19
the value of that boat so uh new to purchase the value of
1:02:25
that boat is uh we'll call it $40,000 $40,000 so for about 25% of the value of
1:02:33
the boat rough figures don't quote me on that um I can have a boat delivered I
1:02:41
can be WorryFree it's going to be there on the 15th of June whatever the date we
1:02:46
arrange somebody's going to drop it off put it in the water tie it up to my dock it's going to be fully equipped I don't
1:02:53
need to do anything short of adding gasoline to the tank I'm assuming unless you guys deliver it with gasoline I
1:02:59
don't Know full of gas full of gas there you go and I pay you the the value 20
1:03:05
roughly 25% of the value of it I use it I abuse it I do whatever I want with it
1:03:11
all season long you come in at the end of the season with your trailer I don't
1:03:16
have to get my waiters on I don't have to get wet at all you pick up the boat take it away shake hands thank you very
1:03:22
much off you go it's a it's a no-brainer and these are all I'm
1:03:29
assuming they're all four-stroke Motors so nobody has to add oil or anything like that uh no yeah they're all four stroke uh we of course run every one of
1:03:37
them before we deliver them yep um in some cases we'll we'll uh wet test them
1:03:43
before they go if if they have things like trolling motors and other things that are going on them then we'll want
1:03:49
to you know confirm that all that stuff is networked it's working in the boat before we take it
1:03:55
um so yeah and you said you said use and abuse which you know you've heard the
1:04:01
saying you know drive it like you stole it or right right right dri stole it it really isn't that
1:04:09
way we haven't we haven't experienced that at all everything has been uh kept as good as people owned it and that that
1:04:16
is the thing about this seasonal rental is people are treating it as if it was their own right so there's there there's
1:04:22
a sense of of ownership with our product because it is on your dock
1:04:28
247 it's not like the weekend Mustang that I I'm going to wake up at six and and run the wheels off it because I got
1:04:34
to return it tomorrow by 4 right right right and you know something else just occurred to me the old keeping up with
1:04:41
the Joneses uh I mean who has to know about this other than you and and the
1:04:47
customers I mean I might have got a new I just got Bobby dazzler look at
1:04:55
not only that but I'm going to get rid of it at the end of the year and get a new one next year that's right look at you look at you go might well start
1:05:02
doing that with your Cottages too I think it's a great idea man it's fantastic where did this whole how did
1:05:09
this come about so uh once again you know looking
1:05:15
back backwards uh preco U you know we were looking to try to capture more uh
1:05:22
used boats in our on in our yards right so especially pontoon boats they're just
1:05:27
so hard to find and at the same time um I had been down in the Florida area and
1:05:33
had seen the um the boat club concept down there and wondered how we could
1:05:40
bring that to Canada and how we could make that work and again um to what I was saying earlier is the model didn't
1:05:46
didn't fit our Northern geography uh and climate so uh this is where we you know
1:05:53
we got together with Prince graph we discussed you know if we were to add x amount of boats to our order is this
1:05:59
something you could fulfill um they've been great working with us and making that happen because we only have so much
1:06:07
space in our yards and uh you can only get three maybe four pontoons per load
1:06:14
so you know we have to time those in such a way that that we can get them into our yard get them pded and get them
1:06:20
out there so there's quite a bit that goes on behind the scenes um even though Winters are long in Northern Ontario
1:06:27
there isn't a day that goes by that we're not touching something to do with boating right um so basically yeah we
1:06:33
put the program together we work through the insurance and legal aspects of it um
1:06:39
and we did a pilot project last year which was extremely successful the
1:06:44
number of boats that we allocated for the pilot uh all went and then we added
1:06:50
I think another I think there was another dozen that went on top of that that were uh many of those were off menu
1:06:57
so they were different models and that sort of thing so that kind of gave us the recipe for what would probably work
1:07:03
best for this year and so far it's been it's been good I'm assuming pontoon boats are the most popular is that is
1:07:09
that the most absolutely absolutely what the 95 95% of our Fleet are Pon right
1:07:15
have you had any uh higher-end Princecraft fishing boats that anybody wanted to rent for the for the year uh
1:07:22
not yet um we just took a really nice one on trade that's a really nice one by the
1:07:29
way everybody just to let everybody know uh not fnc1 buty pretty close if you
1:07:34
could somebody could rent that boat oh my God we just uh we just delivered
1:07:39
actually Rob came in and picked up uh our boat our Princecraft boat that we used on the fishing Canada show this
1:07:45
year uh it was part of the we had predetermined that Rob was going to end up with that boat so and She's a Beauty
1:07:51
she is a beauty you buy it or if Rob putes through the freedom system you get a chance to rent that for a year oh my
1:07:58
God you're going to look good out there you know you know though I I now that I
1:08:03
think of it I think the pontoon boat is perfectly built for this program because
1:08:09
you know and we'll take we'll take a a 20 foot boat with a 300 on the back or whatever it's not something that that
1:08:16
just anybody can jump into whereas a pontoon you literally could you could take a novice boat driver uh um or even
1:08:24
a firsttime boat driver put them in a in a in a pontoon boat a 16 foot 18 or even
1:08:30
a 20 foot pontoon boat and they it's not a big learning curve is it it's not that
1:08:35
big of a deal that's the nice thing about it yeah no they're fairly they're daunting in the sense when you look at
1:08:41
them especially on the trailer they look so big but but they're actually you know they're very light um they're very basic
1:08:47
in the sense of I don't have to worry about a boat plug if we get heavy rain I don't have to lose sleep over the
1:08:55
like there's a lot of those things and again like I said earlier is that um you know everybody can take part the whole
1:09:00
family can take part yeah and and part of our pitch is that you know you can have a boat on your dock for the entire
1:09:08
summer at your you know at arms length for less than taking your family to a
1:09:14
beach vacation for a week let's think about that yeah yeah that's absolutely true you know if it rains for three of
1:09:22
those days while at the resort you don't get those back that's right that's right I was thinking about when you guys were
1:09:28
seeing the the intimidation factor of the size of the boat and driving it I've never driven a big pontoon boat so I
1:09:33
don't know what it's like but I'll give it an example when we when we started running that big RV remember the big we
1:09:39
ran these fullsize RVs Rob for a couple of years and I got behind that wheel and I was in my pants I said I can't I
1:09:45
can't this is like a freaking tractor trailer I within minutes you're driving that thing like you're just you're a PE
1:09:51
we started to Towing our our U 198 behind it we were backing that into spots with the RV and all that so it's
1:09:58
not as bad as people think don't be so intimidated by the size of these rigs CU a lot of times when they're bigger they're actually easier to drive you
1:10:04
know especially pontoon bols I think it's one of the easiest watercrafts to to handle from without question yeah
1:10:11
they excellent visibility for the driver so you've got basically 360 view they
1:10:16
are you know they float like a cork so they are a little bit susceptible to to win but I mean you you can adjust to
1:10:22
that fairly easy and we'll go through that with you when we deliver at your dock we'll show you the best angle to
1:10:29
come in you know low and slow uh you know the only place that
1:10:34
that really matters is getting into a lock when you have to go through a lock yeah then it becomes and there's 80
1:10:41
people watching you okay Martha you take the wheel please and your wife's screaming and yelling at over to the
1:10:47
right oh my God I want to die other than that they're uh they're
1:10:53
pretty cool they've really come a long way with these things too now with the TR Tunes terms of performance oh my God
1:11:00
up on the pad and everything like they're fast some of and that's the Princecraft totally uh redesigned the
1:11:06
their Vector series for 2024 which is the you know perfect fit for our model
1:11:13
lineup um so you're getting a completely redesigned boat for this year uh and
1:11:18
we've added the rear Lounge models we've added the dry tune models and we're
1:11:23
keeping the uh the traditional L-shaped Furniture model as well to keep that price point uh where we want it to be
1:11:31
and at the same time offering those added benefits so I recently had a customer from North Bay we'll be
1:11:37
delivering that one in the spring they chose to add a full camper enclosure and a ski bar so oh nice and we'll do that
1:11:45
nice is it safe to assume that um a customer can get a pretty good idea of what the price is going to be if they
1:11:51
use that 25% number that we talked about uh in terms it's amaz it's amazing the number
1:11:57
of people that crunched those numbers before and I had one gentleman last year he says I could do this for 12 years
1:12:03
before um it would have been yeah and I and at that you know on that note there
1:12:09
was no he hasn't factored in storage and servicing and all the other stuff that
1:12:14
goes with that so it's and and and just the benefit of having a brand new boat
1:12:20
every year oh my God I mean that alone nice is that you know is worth and and the cottage is all about entertaining
1:12:26
too right even if you're just entertaining your own family just going up for a cruise but when you have friends over every weekend that pontoon
1:12:32
boo becomes a huge part of that weekend too right funny you say that Cottage but could this also be just a boat that you
1:12:41
Moore at a Marina and yeah you could you could you could rent a slip and have uh one of our
1:12:47
boats at that Marina no issue with that or your trailer park or your you don't necessarily have to own a car ctage but
1:12:54
you do need somewhere to keep the boat um when it's not in use yeah at a marina
1:13:00
the perfect scenario would be to rent a slip at your favorite Lake a Marina and then get Rob's team to bring you a boat
1:13:07
you wouldn't need a cottage you need a cottage you go up there you don't have to be there every weekend the boat is mored in the slip in the marina so it's
1:13:15
safe and sound and then when you need to get out boating you just get up there and go oh yeah easier for Rob too they
1:13:21
just got to drop at the marina right there you don't have to drive it the spot or like so fantastic business I I
1:13:27
love the model the absolute Fantastic Model for especially for this part of the country I don't know whether that
1:13:34
model uh translates to um expanding Beyond this province are
1:13:41
there any thoughts have you got anything cooking that you might want to expand Beyond this the borders of this province
1:13:47
I think the model will work anywhere um obviously for us uh from our location
1:13:53
you know in subre Timmons Branford that becomes a little bit you know going out of Province so we'd have to obviously
1:13:59
have some sort of association with another Marina or dealer uh in those
1:14:05
markets to really make it work to you know to properly yeah it might work though might like you say Rob teams up
1:14:11
with four or five Mariners across Canada exactly good God a great system going on there love it the only thing I'm worried
1:14:18
about in this whole system m is Rob mentioned uh the boats up in north and he said Grandpa's got a Woody and I
1:14:25
don't know what the hell I'm trying to expect on that one but I've never heard that before in my life it's playing on
1:14:31
you just it's I don't know if I want to go north anymore to be honest if he's out in the lake showing that off
1:14:36
you know what I mean or something so uh that's typical Mr Bowman right
1:14:41
there so it's called Freedom cruises and how can people find it how how can they contact you so Freedom Cruise Canada we
1:14:49
are on Facebook uh and we have a website for Freedom Cru
1:14:54
canada.ca um go ahead fire away the questions uh send us an email call us uh
1:15:00
we'll fill you in on you know your specific needs and uh send you a quote
1:15:06
and uh you'll you'll find that after you go through that information and and weigh the numbers that um if it makes
1:15:13
sense for you then you know we can make it happen there's we're by no means trying to you know beat up on
1:15:20
traditional boat buying because we sell far more boat and we'll continue to sell far more boats than we
1:15:25
rent um but it it's it's definitely something um for some people for a lot
1:15:32
of the things that you mentioned the reasons that you mentioned uh that it works for them and uh I I really love
1:15:39
the uh the story that you painted earlier on about uh you know maybe your
1:15:44
grandkids decided that they want to come up for a month to the cottage this year and you've got your your 1978 to
1:15:53
uh bow Rider 16t bow Rider that you've had since the beginning of time and you know it's not going to be adequate for
1:16:00
the whole family now you got another 12 people to worry about you can't just go out and buy a boat on a whim right why
1:16:06
not just rent one for the summer I mean it is it's spectacular I mean and that's
1:16:11
just one that's just one small example I mean there's there's a multitude of examples where this makes sense um
1:16:19
versus just going out and purchasing one not the least of which by the way is when you go out and and and I don't want
1:16:27
to say anything like you just said I don't want to say anything bad about buying a boat because that's still the number one uh dream that we all have as
1:16:34
Canadians but um you don't have to make a firm
1:16:39
decision right away you can try a boat for a year for a season you don't have to commit to this style of boat or that
1:16:46
style of boat knowing full well that once you've bought it you've spent the 50 60 70 $80,000 for that boat once once you got
1:16:55
it you're stuck with it because depreciation is going to keep you from being able to flip that boat the next
1:17:01
year we all know what that's all about which we haven't even talked about that benefit by the way but you don't have to
1:17:08
worry about that anymore you know you can say hey you know what let's try it let's try just a regular pontoon let's
1:17:13
try a trune let's try a an 18 foot bow Rider I mean I it it just it goes on and
1:17:19
on and on are you putting the deckboats into this program by the way so we can we um it's it is a product
1:17:27
that we we sell so we can we can certainly put that in there as we can any other any other model that we sell
1:17:34
um it's once again it comes down to the financial uh you know model in the sense
1:17:42
that what works best you know at what point do we cross that threshold where you know for example if I'm going to
1:17:48
tell you that I have to charge you 15 grand for the use of a deck booat for the summer are you going to want to do
1:17:53
that or would you rather buy the boat and then maybe sell it in two or three years well what's depreciation on a boat
1:17:59
every year so depreciation on boats is uh any as Recreational Products go is
1:18:06
the very least amount of depreciation on a boat when we compare that to motorcycle snowmobile ATV anything else
1:18:13
a boat uh does not has nowhere near and I don't know what that is today because
1:18:19
you know through the last couple of years the industry has seen obviously uh you know huge surge in demand uh we had
1:18:27
customers coming in that had bought uh 2008 2009 Bay liners from us 175s you
1:18:33
know the little IO with a 3 ler and they were getting as much for that boat on
1:18:39
trade than they paid for them in 2008 200 wow yeah it's it's been crazy so it's not
1:18:56

1:19:30
up for all the latest fishing Canada giveaways and now back to the
1:19:36
show I I want to talk to you about that um if we could kind of stray off this
1:19:41
particular subject and and get into the me Marine industry in particular because it's it's been uh a real roller coaster
1:19:49
since I would say 2018 probably 19 was the real start of it it's had so many
1:19:54
ups and downs so many changes so many strange things in this industry uh that
1:20:01
um I think it's it's worth spending a couple of minutes talking about now the latest thing obviously is the interest
1:20:07
rates like that's got to be a real kick in the pants for you guys with it's one
1:20:12
thing you know paying 6% interest on your home cuz you need a place to live
1:20:19
uh maybe it even makes sense paying that on car because you need your car to make
1:20:25
a living and get to work but it's got to be mentally difficult for people to look
1:20:31
at that on a recreational vehicle like a boat it just seems like that you know once we get into that five six seven 8%
1:20:39
interest rate it's got to be prohibitive in terms of buying ownership of boat which is another reason why this program
1:20:45
you've got going is perfect yeah so yeah on the on the interest I
1:20:50
mean the interest rate is definitely uh top of mind I mean it's in the media every day it's uh you know we don't see
1:20:57
it as being a huge deterrent it is definitely a question that consumers ask
1:21:03
it is something that we work through um but I mean historically you
1:21:08
know I've been in the Marine industry for over 30 years and the the dealership's been around for 20 years
1:21:13
longer than that we've seen the ups and downs of of interest rates and right now we're probably middle of the road if we
1:21:20
took you know the 30-year average I think the media has kind of played that up as being uh a lot worse than it
1:21:27
actually is at the end of the day uh you know in any uh most loans that you're
1:21:34
doing they renew in five years so although you're taking out a loan for 10 or 15 or maybe even 20 years depending
1:21:41
on on the value of that boat that interest rate is going to turn in five years and all indicators are that we
1:21:49
will we should see a decrease in the next two to three years so by the time your five-year term comes up um you know
1:21:57
we would expect that that that uh rate would decrease uh but once again that you know
1:22:03
I remember I bought my first new snowmobile in 1989 and I think I paid like 13%
1:22:10
interest at that time and that was normal I was going to say as I asked you the question about how difficult is it
1:22:17
at 6% interest I it just threw me back when I was in the boat dealer business
1:22:22
we were at 12 and 133% selling boats six sounds good right now when you look at it that way it wasn't an issue it was
1:22:29
not an issue at all I think I think one of the biggest problems is that we've had that nice you know one and 2%
1:22:34
interest rate for a few years everybody and it's now we're spoiled right but you mean you're obviously now when you look
1:22:40
at the price of boats it's like what the hell this is crazy but we heard this week Rob that that the price might be
1:22:46
starting to come down on boats too I don't know if you've heard anything about that because the materials now are getting back postco and they're starting
1:22:51
to get a little easier e to to get and cheaper again is is that a possibility that boat prices will be going down yeah
1:22:58
I don't know if they're going to come down in the sense from um you know what we purchase them for because as you said
1:23:04
the price of materials and the price of Labor have not changed um although some
1:23:10
stuff has become a little bit more uh kind of fixed in the sense there's no surprises in that you know when they're
1:23:17
budgeting for production for the season and they're buying aluminum they're buying components they they have a fix
1:23:22
costs now two years ago there was no fixed cost that changed by the week in some cases right uh what you what you
1:23:30
will see in the Marine industry are um retail programs so we saw them late fall
1:23:36
and we'll fully expect to see them again at the boat show where manufacturers will be bringing rebates um and those
1:23:43
will those will be focused in on the inventory that's in the field so for
1:23:49
example if you know a certain segment um there's more of that well then those
1:23:54
that particular product will Encompass a greater rebate than let's say something that's not you know very plentiful in
1:24:01
the field part of the issue that we ran into was there was so much Demand on factories and they they were trying so
1:24:08
hard to spool up and by the time that they did uh we got um basically out of
1:24:15
season so we were getting you know boat products late summer for that model year
1:24:21
and the same happened with snowmobiles and many other products so we ended up with our inventories being out of cycle
1:24:27
so it's going to take us we figure about 18 months to get back into cycle so
1:24:32
we're we're not top loaded with snowmobiles in the summer and top loaded with boats you know when we shouldn't be
1:24:39
what does this mean for the average consumer though Rob what does that mean to somebody who's looking to get into
1:24:45
that market it's a buyer's market it is a buyer's market it's a buyer's market
1:24:51
okay well that's that's positive news for change cuz it sure as hell has not been a buyer's
1:24:57
market for the last three years so uh this is uh this is great news you
1:25:02
mentioned the boat show I'm I'm assuming you're talking about the International Boat or the Toronto boat show Toronto
1:25:08
International are you gonna be are you gonna be there I will be in the Princecraft Booth uh Freedom we looked
1:25:14
at that uh we did the cottage life show in the fall and we were blown away with
1:25:20
the the response that we had at that show and uh I think part of that reason
1:25:26
was that we were able to put a boat in the booth right and if we go to the Toronto International Boat Show because
1:25:33
Princecraft is there as a manufacturer we could not have a boat in a booth at the tral show and for that reason I
1:25:40
think we will pass on that show and we will be at the spring Cottage life show oh you you would not be allowed to have
1:25:48
a boat in your booth is that what you're saying that's correct because the the um
1:25:54
the Tron International boat show in January uh is uh supported by the
1:25:59
manufacturers and they have their own they have corporate booths right so when they have so for example I will work
1:26:06
that Booth I've worked that booth for the last 15 years I'll be in that as a Princecraft dealer yeah um but uh so you
1:26:14
could not have um another boat like I couldn't have my a Jan B Booth with a
1:26:20
Princecraft boat or a bay Liner Boat I didn't know that could you talk to the
1:26:25
about the freedom uh cruises though at the prince by the way I'm a dealer but I also have this here that look at this
1:26:32
see those suckers are all available we'll put we'll put a good word in with JP we're we're going to talk to the boys
1:26:38
Princecraft I got to wear I got to wear the hat that I got to wear where when I'm standing in that Booth you got so
1:26:43
much product right there you can say oh my God I still got snbs true enough how
1:26:49
are these shows coming along you've been doing them for for years has the internet or or if not the internet
1:26:56
certainly the digital world affected performances at these shows or or you
1:27:02
know consumers showed out what's your opinion of that we we've been asking all
1:27:07
kinds of people that not just boat shows but I'm talking shows in general yeah no I'm I'm a firm believer
1:27:14
in a show I really am and I and I think that um sometimes there's too much
1:27:20
emphasis on the B buyer and I think when we're talking about shows you got to be looking over
1:27:27
the boat buyer shoulder and at the young couple with the stroller and behind them ah and that is
1:27:35
the next buyer and that's what the really for me that's what really the show those shows do is people go in and
1:27:43
they look and then they get interested and then down the road so it's it's seeding um those future sales the boat
1:27:51
buyer themselves it has changed in the sense that when they walk into the booth they generally
1:27:57
know exactly what they're looking for they just want to see it in 3D they want to be able to touch it they want to be
1:28:02
able to sit in it they want to be able to all do that stuff that they can't do on the internet they've done all the research they know all the options they
1:28:09
know all the features they know the horsepower they know all that stuff but now they want to they want to they've zeroed it into maybe a couple different
1:28:15
models and they're that's why they're going to the show and basically that's what's sealing you know the deal in
1:28:21
their mind right it's interesting it is you're right it is the demo is changing for sure um and and the show is the only
1:28:28
place you can really touch and feel that and experience it yeah yeah yeah um sounds fantastic my friend I think
1:28:34
you've got something that uh a lot of people are going to be talking about here in the in the months and years a
1:28:40
good one right now I think so it does sound good to me uh once again folks can
1:28:45
look you up uh either at uh J&B cycle obviously that's the first place they can find you uh you have a Facebook
1:28:53
presence with the rental business as well y so uh Freedom Cruise Canada on
1:29:00
Facebook um and then we have the website Freedom Cruzan canada.ca where you can reach out in in
1:29:07
either format to get more information and uh find out more about that product for sure sounds fantastic my friend I
1:29:14
want to thank you for joining us a real pleasure having you on the show uh what's going to happen to the fishing
1:29:19
Canada boat by the way what's what is somebody going to be lucky enough to be able to buy that yeah well so we we
1:29:26
brought it in um as you know I to it back from ashaa uh got home very late uh
1:29:33
the next day put it in our detail Bay and my detail guys were were estatic
1:29:38
because it was so clean um there was no fish residue in that boat whatsoever
1:29:44
there was nothing good thing oh God we didn't catch him too good again a we were you know it's been
1:29:51
a few years since we've had to return a boat right so we were so paranoid about
1:29:56
that boat this year my God that floor with soap on my cleaners and oh yeah it
1:30:02
was good I'm glad to hear that actually normally uh normally we just come
1:30:07
crashing into docks and tire up and get in for the night with this boat we had a whole strategic Plan before we were
1:30:13
approaching the dock we had to take wind wind direction and speeds and all kinds of stuff yeah oh God no it's a it's
1:30:21
great boat package and uh so we've we've photographed it uh and used some of the photos that you supplied as well and
1:30:28
it's uh it's in storage now uh and it's available to purchase and uh so there
1:30:35
you go so if you're uh in the market for a uh like a fully rigged fully rigged
1:30:42
the fishing boat of all fishing boats uh we used it for an entire season this
1:30:48
year on the fishing Canada show so it's the boat that you'll be seeing in the broad
1:30:53
season 200 Expedition dual console and loaded we mean loaded with the 250 is it
1:31:01
is uh the the electronics on that boat are nothing short of stunning just stun
1:31:07
like 20 plus Grand in electronics isn't it 20 30 grand over 30 thank you that's that's
1:31:13
insane you know what I mean so so uh if you are looking if you're in the market for that boat there is one sitting right
1:31:20
now in Timmons and uh Rob can certainly I'm sorry with there's two we have uh we
1:31:27
have our Pro Staff demo as well which identical identical model but in a full
1:31:33
windshield wow but it does not have the uh the roster of electronics that your
1:31:39
machine had that's for sure I don't have that budget I don't have that budget it's fully loaded you could not add
1:31:48
anything to this boat you I I don't care who you are you could there's nothing that you can say oh yeah but wait a
1:31:55
minute I need to put because it doesn't it has everything available to and it's uh it's take a look take a look on the
1:32:01
website on J&B cycl Marine oh it's there too right so they can look at.com it's got to be worth a couple
1:32:08
hundred thousand do isn't it it's got to be worth it no not even close Rob Rob's
1:32:14
got it priced very well all right that's right we do we do yeah well the fact that we use it on the fishing Canada
1:32:20
show that's an extra 100,000 in well yeah I mean royalties that go back
1:32:25
that's we got no scales in it means we didn't catch any fish in it what the hell we have the proof my friend we have
1:32:33
the proof all right listen Rob we're going to cut you loose my friend thank you very much for joining us absolute
1:32:38
pleasure um we'd like to bring you back uh maybe at at in the spring of the year
1:32:43
to see how the program has gone the rental program I I definitely want to stay on top of it because I think it's
1:32:49
it's a tremendous opportunity whether you're a seasoned veteran a a brand new
1:32:54
Cottage owner or or just curious about different styles of boats I think the rental program might just fit uh into
1:33:02
what your needs would be so um let's stay on up yeah thank you on guys I
1:33:07
really appreciate the opportunity and hope to see you up uh walleye fishing
1:33:12
here in Northern Ontario you know we have some of the best walleye fishing in the world by the way your your son told
1:33:18
us all about it okay so he's he's he's already done the pitch on us for sure
1:33:24
great thanks Rob all right take care my friend you wellow that's uh that's an
1:33:30
interesting program that's cool you know what we also need to get is uh if we get Rob on again and we're you know moving
1:33:36
further into this we need to get a couple of people's opinions either written or somebody that's rented the boat for the year and say you know oh my
1:33:43
God you wouldn't because that would I think they would really sell that package even better you know what I mean it can't be any there's not going to be
1:33:49
any negatives to it I'm trying to think of the negativ as we're going through the process I was trying to think of the negatives like what could there possibly
1:33:57
be that would be negative you know how much you you know what it's costing you
1:34:02
up front you've already paid it so that part's done it's brand new Boat and Motor mm so if anything goes wrong with
1:34:08
it it's it's all taken care of they they send a service person over to look after you yeah that's that's it that doesn't
1:34:16
happen anywhere no without without a cost you know what I mean they deliver it and tie it to your dock teach you how
1:34:24
to dock it teach you little driving tips and and then then fall they pick it up yeah like what and if you wanted to buy
1:34:30
it it it comes off the price too right it's it's part of the part of although for the life of me I I think once you
1:34:36
start into this program I don't know why you would want to buy it because now that you've had a full season on this
1:34:42
boat now you're familiar with what you like and don't like now you can sit down over the winter and and upgrade you know
1:34:50
a little size 23 instead of a 21 let's see how that works different a trune instead of a no top uh shelter no I mean
1:34:57
it it goes cuz I know the options on these boats the list is endless oh yeah and by the way people listening a
1:35:04
pontoon boat cuz we that's the main boats that Rob is renting they're very fishable boats you know what I mean
1:35:09
there's not like you can't fish out of them it's not just a pleasure boat they're they're fantastic for trolling you could put the portable uh rod
1:35:16
holders on it stuff like that you can actually some of them you can put a trolling motor on if you want it but for drift fishing for trolling you know
1:35:23
stuff like that they're great they're a great vehicle for that you say some of them you can put a electric motor on any
1:35:28
of them yeah probably all of them yeah and they work pretty efficiently those the the pontoons nowadays are not like
1:35:34
the old pontoons these things are very very efficient they're they're designed
1:35:39
have the least amount of resistance on the water in fact if you look at it I mean a trune takes that to a whole new
1:35:45
level but if you look at conventional pontoon boats the newer style pontoon boats there's less drag than a
1:35:52
conventional vhul in most cases so said they're light too they're light the only downside is that that they're light and
1:35:59
they sit on top of the water and therefore they're they're you have to you have to take the wind into account a
1:36:05
lot more than you would AB you might be using just even a conventional anchor a lot you know fish a spot you drop an
1:36:11
anchor then you lift the anchor up and move you have a trolling motor then that's different but either way I think if you're looking for a serious fishing
1:36:17
boat then obviously there are a lot of other options
1:36:22
you can still fish out of a Ponto boat we fish out of house boats yeah so you know you want to fish we did a full
1:36:27
season or two seasons with a deck boat which is the same thing as a p boat so any it's a fascinating business and and
1:36:34
for you out there that might be sitting on the fence on making that new boat purchase this might be the perfect
1:36:40
alternative oh yeah to get your feet wet see if you like it if you don't so it's cost you as Rob said it cost you a trip
1:36:48
to Disney look at it that way right except had it all year absolutely fantastic anyways good show buddy that
1:36:56
was great want to remind everybody about the fishing canada.com contests that are ongoing I want to also remind people we
