0:32
Yes, sir. Bobby, welcome Bobby to the show. Don't start the mouthing off to me
0:39
cuz there's not a good I like Bobby Bobby. I got Bobby. I got buddies or
0:45
anybody even looks like you. I fish with Bobby's all Cedar Island Lodge. That's where
0:51
we're coming to you from as our on the road podcast series continues throughout
0:57
the uh season 40th. Our 40th season mean I feel I'm hurt. Well, I'm hurt because
1:02
it's raining and we're in here instead of being out there being productive. I got you. I'm with you on that one. So,
1:08
I'm hurt. I'm right beside you on that one. I'm hurt. Come on now. Again. But it does uh give us offer us the
1:14
opportunity to come in and indoors and do a lovely podcast for you. Yeah. You know what happens here on the road is
1:21
that usually if the fishing is good, the weather's good, and we have to cram a podcast in at the very end. Go, "Oh my
1:26
god, guys, we forgot to do the podcast, right?" Cuz everything's been, you know, on the go go go. So, this is kind of a
1:32
an omen for for Dino and Va to get the podcast in. Anyway, so So, we're about
1:38
uh I don't know 100 kilometers or so from Canora, Ontario. Yep. From south
1:44
basically south of Canora, south a little bit. Uh just outside of the lovely uh uh town of Emo. Give me a hell
1:51
yeah. That's where the hell yeah. Home of Grandma Bowman. Helen Bowman. Helen Bowman. I think she was the queen of emo
1:57
I think at one time. Yeah. The queen. Yeah. Or whatever you want to call her. The count the count. Emo is not It's
2:04
kind of an obscure. It's about I think it's 700 people. 700. So what's the next
2:09
closest town? Fort Francis. We used to always go to Fort Francis. Um Sunneros is close by. Thank you. Thank you.
2:17
Hell yeah. I told him to get you a rona, but he didn't he never he doesn't listen to me. No, he listens to nobody. He listens to nobody. Oh, he stole the rona
2:24
so that he doesn't use his Budweisers up, right? I got I see the way he's working it. I got him.
2:30
I got it. I got it. Where were we? Okie dokie. Emo. Okie dokie. Emo, Ontario.
2:36
Yeah, Fort Francis. We used to travel up here every summer. Uh my grandma lived here in Nemo for the longest time to
2:43
over a hundred years by the way. Over 100 years old. Grandma Bowman. Over 100. I think she's 101 she made it to. And uh
2:49
we used to always come here and I had relatives in Fort Francis. So we used to travel back and forth to these uh little
2:56
places on our way. We'd stop at Sbury and and have all those mum on a Saturday night. So on a Saturday night, I think
3:04
uh uh we're going to get slapped here pretty soon if we don't stop begging these.
3:09
Boba's going to give us it's on the road again. Anyways, welcome to the program, Angelo. He is Peter. That's Boba. That's
3:15
Nick. And that's Dean coming to you live from Emo, Ontario. Live from Emo, Ontario. As you probably have now
3:21
surmised, we're in the middle of an extended road trip. We started uh a few
3:27
days ago, maybe a week ago or so, on Hawk Lake. Um come on now. Wonderful
3:32
operation, wonderful fishing, no rain. We had absolutely wonderful weather
3:37
there, I have to say. Yeah, it was that's a first really when you think about it. Yeah, when you think about it
3:43
for sure. But here uh we have been here uh at Cedar Island Lodge now for two
3:50
days. This is our second day and we have rain. Come on now. We got a half a day in today anyways, which is good. We got
3:56
up early with the intentions because we knew it was going to rain and it did exactly what we wanted to do not want to
4:01
do. But hey, cheers brother. Happy New Year. Give me a hell yeah. And that's
4:07
Yeah. So yeah, we got we we uh we saw the rain in the forecast. So we got Dan says, "Guys, let's get up early. Let's
4:13
uh breakfast. We'll get out there early and then come back when it starts to come down." And we just Well, we had a bit of
4:19
a malfunction out there. So we were coming in for that and then it started to rain. So perfect timing. Yeah. Uh it
4:25
does screw up. Uh you know, folks ask us all the time, you know, how many shows you shoot and how long does it take you
4:30
and and uh they they want to know all about the show. And one of the things that we kept keep telling them is that
4:37
what you see is not what you get in this case because there is a lot of uh
4:44
interruptions to our production such as weather. Weather's sorry weather is probably the most serious one of all
4:50
though we do have uh technical and mechanical difficulties from time to time but weather does it rules our life
4:58
and unfortunately when it does what it's doing right now uh out on the lake we just can't be out there. We can we can
5:05
but um in terms of being able to produce it for the Fishing Canada show, it is an impossibility. So, here we are. Yeah. Uh
5:13
to talk to you folks about a lake that neither one of us has been on before. It's called Pine Stone. Pipe Stone. Pine
5:20
Pipe. Is there a Pine Stone? Of course. There's every stone out there, buddy. There you just There's stones unturned
5:26
that have legs. Pipe stone. Thanks, Dino. Pipe. Pipe stone. That's a weird name for lake, is it not? I think
5:32
there's probably a story to it. Pipe and a stone, right? Maybe our crack research team over there when he's on his
5:38
internet, he can look it up for us. He's got it. He's getting it for us right now. And he's going to he's going to look that up in a second. He's going to
5:44
look No, no. I saw what he's doing. He's working for us right now. Oh, is he? Are you with us or against us, Nick? See,
5:50
he's with us. That's my old auto shop Peter teacher would say. I'd be looking up in the start. Peter, are you with us
5:56
or against us? That's all he say. How do you get this Minionello going, Peter? Why do you call it? I can't see. You
6:02
won't see it. Just carry on. And how do you know what it is? Well, it is what it is.
6:08
Come on, man. So, you have What's a meilo mean? Majino is um is a
6:19
tiny piece of machinery, but it's it's a very um negative something like myself.
6:26
It's like, you know, if somebody's got an expensive watch, you say, "What kind of mushy needle is that?" Like a cheap
6:32
little like your garment. That's not a mushy needle though. That that is mine. No, it no if anything.
6:41
Uh, so Pipstone Lake, it's already in two days I can tell you it's
6:47
one of the most unique lakes I've ever been on because it is not a lake. To me, this is a
6:54
series of lakes. It's it's like you can in one day I feel you could probably fish five or six different lakes without
7:00
ever leaving the water cuz every time you go around a band there is another
7:07
type of water that you're confronted with different conditions different everything and it just feels like it
7:13
fishes like multiple lakes all very unique body of water for sure. And to go along with that has a a plethora of
7:19
species smallmouth and largemouth bass both. Yep. Uh, it has, of course,
7:24
walleye, which every northwestern Ontario lake has. It has an incredible
7:30
population, we're told, of musky. We've seen a couple already, evidence. Look at that guy behind us. Hopefully, he's in
7:36
the shot. That's a giant, huge, huge musky. It's a great musky fishery here. It's got to be It's got to be one of the
7:41
better kept secrets of the musky fish. nice thing about it and they have lake trout as well here but the nice thing about this lake and as was saying the
7:47
uniqueness of and reason that the fishing pressure is less here than before is because you have to come in
7:53
from another lake so the other lake the landing is down in near or near emo on I think it's clear water lake I think
7:58
that's the name of it you drive your boat all the way was 20 something kilometers wasn't it or of that lake and
8:04
then you come to a a dead end there's a waterfalls there a little creek there and then you look on the land and there's this double rails like a like
8:12
don't do that my phone. That's how it works. My imagin I just wanted to see how we were rolling. That was pretty
8:18
good actually. I never knew it could do that. And then so you go and you see these rails, the little rail track going
8:23
up the hill. That's the best part. And then you drive your boat up. There's a dock there. You drive your boat weight there and they bring this little train
8:30
car sort of thing down. You drive your boat onto it like a boat trailer and they literally don't no tie it down or
8:35
anything like that. It leans over to the side a bit. It lifts you up over the burm and then it drops you back down into this lake and pipe stone lake. So
8:42
cool. So that and that makes it obviously much more difficult to to fish in a day because you got to drive all the way up through that one lake, go
8:48
over that and then there's a there's a fee too as well. And it's a very smart thing is that they don't charge you on
8:54
the way up. They just charge you on the way home. So if you want to stay up here the rest of your life, you're good. But if you want to go home, they charge you
8:59
like a launching fee, but it's it's a lift fee, I guess you call it. But interesting story behind that lift and
9:05
and the people that have owned it operated it throughout the throughout the years. Yeah.
9:11
It's kind of like the old uh I can't remember the title of the book, but Dean, you'll probably know you. You're a bit of a thespian. I know. Come on now.
9:18
Um Yes, he is. You know that. No, I did not. I thought he like girls.
9:24
Oh my. And uh the lighthouse book, the the
9:30
there was a story about the lighthouse keeper who was crazy and lived there all
9:35
his life. You don't remember that one? No. All right. Maybe you're not a thespian. I somewhere I read that you
9:42
were but but that's kind of the story that's going on here with with this uh
9:47
maybe it's a marilo after that could be could be some what did you say the big
9:52
one was the majango mono majono um the people who have owned and
9:59
operated it kind of disappear end up disappearing after a number and I can understand why I mean there's a little
10:06
there's a I don't know little booth there's a guard shack guard shack like that with the operator in it who's
10:11
pulling levers back and forth like a I don't know like bulldozer operator. That'd be a pretty lonely life if that's
10:17
what you did all day. You got to be on call there. I would imagine you're on call like from morning until night. I
10:23
would assume so. There's people that come in. They have to come out. They just they just drive up and like we just drove up three or four boats in a row
10:30
and they just and they were there for us. So I don't know how long they're and there were people who needed out the other night. Yeah. So they had the
10:36
emergency night. So how does that work? They have to be on call like I would assume so. Maybe they live right there.
10:42
Maybe there's a a house beside the shack. I don't know. Anyway, so here we are. And when it's all said and done and
10:49
weather breaks and hopefully we can get out and do our thing. Uh we will be producing another episode 40 40th
10:56
season, the 40th anniversary season of Fish and Can Show. This one will be featuring u multiple hosts once again.
11:04
Uh come on now. and multiple species because of the nature of this fishery. Come on now. Not specialize in just one
11:10
thing. We'll we'll make it a pulpery. Okay. I like that. You like that? So far so good. All right. You and I haven't
11:16
had to do anything yet. So I was going to say you got to get working at all.
11:22
And you can't forget that we are uh we are being hosted at Cedar Island Lodge on Pipstone Lake, right? which is uh um
11:29
when we when we do these shoot setups um we talked to different tourism people
11:34
and in this case this is sunset country in northwestern Ontario and we were talking to Jerry Kerio and he said hey
11:40
you guys want a really unique location to go great laws great people great fishing you got to check out Cedar Island Lodge so we made the call and uh
11:47
talked to Carrie and Carrie Baker who runs the place and uh she said yeah let's work together we uh we can make
11:54
this happen so it's very uh I love this place it's nice we're going I'm going to endeavor to get an interview with uh
12:00
Carrie before we leave here for the fish and cat show because I think it's a very unique situation here. First of all,
12:06
there are not that many uh female owner operators of fishing
12:11
lodges. There's just there aren't no matter how you twist and turn it. Betty McGee, that was the one. God bless
12:18
Betty. That's all I got to say. The patriarch Yeah, exactly. of uh female
12:23
ownership of lodges. But there there just aren't that many. So when we run into them, um, we want to we want the
12:30
backstory. We really want to know what got them to that point, you know, to cuz
12:35
listen, owning a a fishing lodge, a fishing operation is akin to owning a
12:43
fishing show. Very similar. Yeah, we all get into it because of the love of
12:49
fishing. And we all get into it with with the mindset, oh my god, I can
12:54
actually make a living and fish all the time. That's all I have to do is just go fish and people will throw money at me.
13:02
That's kind of like lodge ownership. And then uh the stark reality sets in pretty early in their tenure. Usually about the
13:08
first two or three years, they realize, "Oh boy, my fishing days are behind me."
13:13
Oh, she Gary said that to us. She never gets to fish. So just it's just they're they're busy morning until night. Um and
13:20
then that's if everything goes well. If things don't go well, they're busier not even. So there you go. We're going to
13:26
try to get an interview with her uh later on for the Fishing Canada show. Hey anglers, why not turn your next

14:36
interesting side note to this uh is Carrie's daughter Jess who is a fishing
14:44
fanatic uh making I believe musky as her main quest now along with her husband.
14:52
YouTube. Yeah, he's got a great YouTube channel and uh and they uh Yeah. So, you
14:58
can tell you just when you watch the videos of that, you can tell that Jess is an experienced musky angler and when
15:04
you're talk we're talking to her here about all the little spots for walleye bass, everything. You can just she was going out every night on her own just go
15:10
and catch some fish or try and find new spots and all that stuff. So, very cool. But she's Yeah, you can see it when you watch the videos. She knows what she's
15:16
doing for muskies. So, she sets the hook hard. So, and what's their uh uh YouTube channel called? I think it's Doug Wagner
15:24
um fishing or something like that. I think Doug Wagner uh Musky Doug Wagner Musky maybe or something like that. So,
15:30
from Wisconsin from northern Wisconsin. That's where he's from. Are we allowed to uh um say things here that people
15:39
will see on the Fishing Canada show later on? Can we kind of unveil some
15:44
things or are we not allowed to do that? What? Yeah. What are you talking about? An interesting thing happened this
15:50
morning. Yeah. Uh Dean Taylor, our very own lovely Dean Taylor, the producer of
15:55
this very program, was out shooting a segment for the Fishing Canada show and um it was yesterday actually yesterday.
16:03
Yesterday all your troubles were so far away and well maybe you can tell the story, Dean. Yeah, we were out. So Nick
16:09
and I got kind of the assignment to do. So you can catch pretty much everything up here. So now can I just interrupt?
16:14
So, I'm going to assume now because we don't have a camera on you today that when this gets posted, there'll be a
16:20
lovely picture of you on the screen when when you're talking. Yeah, I'll find one for everyone to see. Just checking. Just
16:25
want to make sure. Um, sure. So, I'm I was doing large mouth and Nick is doing
16:31
small mouth. So, I did large mouth yesterday cuz we weren't really sure how long it would take, how it would go. Um,
16:37
so I went out for that and we were getting a few pretty good ones. I think by the time uh we were wrapping up, I
16:43
had a couple TV fish and then a few other ones that were just like good for the like the story. I guess we're trying
16:48
to depict like a multiecies show. So, we didn't need any monsters. Um, but then
16:53
right at the end I hooked into maybe like a 9 inch largemouth under a log and
17:00
Nick had the camera underwater and and uh all of a sudden a musky peeled out
17:05
from under the log and grabbed the large mouth and just like took off right beside the camera. So, we captured all
17:11
that and I got it. It it it like it held on as if I had it hooked. Like we got it right to the boat and then it spit it
17:17
out and then the bass kind of like flopped on the surface and then hit it again. And that happened like two more
17:23
times all on camera. Um but then when I finally got the large mouth up, uh it
17:29
was pretty much like ripped in half. Like its stomach was open. You could see its rib cage and everything, but it gave
17:34
one last shake and shot pretty much all of its guts into Nick's mouth. that was
17:40
open right beside it and he was dry heaving behind the camera and he's miked
17:46
so people on TV won't hear it because we'll just probably cut that audio but I I think you should leave it in. I
17:51
thought it was great. We can hear him dry heaving behind the camera and I'm trying to like stay composed like trying
17:57
to close out the set cuz I know something like that even though it was a small bass is going to end up on camera.
18:03
So I'm trying to pretend like what's happening behind the camera isn't there and I have no idea what I even said. You're a true professional, Dean. You're
18:10
a true professional. I don't even know how it turned out, but I was like like as soon as the camera stopped, we all
18:15
just lost it. Oh, that's a once in a lifetime. And then you released the bass and he ate it again. Right. Is that what
18:21
you're saying? He ate it again. Like he was sitting there like a dog just waiting for it. We threw it back to him
18:27
and he ate it again. Wow. I love the dry heave uh sound that was coming from behind the scene. That was the best.
18:35
But anyways, that's just one of the many things that happens happens to us on these road trips that uh in past years
18:42
we kind of buried and nobody really ever saw it. But I think this certainly this season
18:49
we got a new 360 cam underwater cam so that we can show that kind of stuff when
18:54
if you have that you know fortunately you have it rolling. Boy, you got some great footage there. So, and that probably happens up here, I'd imagine,
19:00
all the time. Cuz the amount of musky we've seen already is crazy. Like every bay you go into, they're in there. Yeah.
19:07
Yeah. Yeah. And the size of the bass here. There's a lot of smaller bass here, too, right? So, the musky's got to snack. They probably just wait for these
19:13
things to be spawning and then move in there and bang them off and in the shallows like that. Be an easy target
19:19
for them, I would think. Oh, this has got to be food for them. Smallies have got to be right on top of the Yeah. the
19:24
list. There's no doubt about it. Yep. Anyways, we're going to find out in the next couple days just we're not be we
19:30
won't be fishing musky uh because it's closed right now. So, I think it opens
19:35
next week. It opens Saturday and we're this Saturday coming up. Come on now. Yep. So, but it would be uh would be fun
19:41
to go out and see. We can hunt some of them down at some point later. There's some big musky in this lake and big you
19:46
mentioned lake trout. There's I think this lake is probably certainly to the local angling community is probably even
19:53
better known for its lake trout fishery. That's right. It's a tremendous fishery.
19:59
Big fish, too. There's There's one at You won't see it, but it's at the end of this dining room here. It to me, it's
20:05
bigger than this monster behind us. It It looks It looks like a legit 45
20:10
pounder to me. It looks that big. It's not, but but it looks every bit of it. So, they got some tanks here, that's for
20:16
sure. And we're going to be fishing for them uh tomorrow, weather permitting. Yep. We're going to try and uh get a
20:23
lake trout episode or a lake trout segment as well. When it's all said and done, like Dean said, it's going to be a bit of a popery of different species
20:30
that you can find in northwestern Ontario all in one show. And that's I think what this lodge is known for is
20:36
that you can come up here, if you take three or four days um to come to Cedar
20:41
Island Lodge, you can pretty much guarantee yourself a full day in each
20:46
one of the species and you'll have a great time. you or a full day or like two species a day or something like that. My god, you can do it all here.
20:53
Well, one species they don't have, thank God. Thank God they don't have is the uh
20:58
the uh invasive species known as the grass carp. Yes, indeed, Danelo. That
21:04
was a good one, buddy. You're getting good at this. No, but this is important. Could you imagine the grass carp getting into this water? It would just f it up.
21:12
it would do that superiorly, supremely, and so the Invasive Species Center wants
21:17
us to be vigilant, wants us to be on the lookout all the time. We won't be this week because there aren't any here. But
21:24
for you folks in southern Ontario, for example, uh fishing any of the Great
21:29
Lakes and tributaries thereof need to be on the lookout uh for this critter
21:35
because it if it gets out at large, it can devastate the sport fishery. um
21:42
throughout we say we say they they they'll never get here, they can't get here, but they can get here. They can
21:47
through somebody having one as a pet like that happens all the time and then they won't kill it. Hell would have a
21:53
grass carp as a pet in their aquarium and they have it like this. That's the way it happens all the time with invasive species. And they say, "Well, I
21:59
don't want to kill it, so I don't want to flush. I'll just let it go in the local pond, the local river, the local lake." That's what happens. It happens.
22:06
Don't give anybody ideas. I'm not. see anybody driving around the grass car flat their tires, beat them up. Uh we
22:14
need to know what it looks like. We need to know all of its habits. We need to know everything about this critter so
22:20
that if we do encounter one in the wilds of uh southern Ontario or the Great
22:25
Lakes and its tributaries, we need to take appropriate actions and those include what, Mr. Bowman? Well, you need
22:32
to know what these things look like. The first thing you go to ascarb.ca A and you get download as many pictures as you
22:37
can will in your phone hold and you study those up good and then just in the case or you don't have to study them up
22:43
as long as you have them and then when you get a fish if you encounter a fish that you don't know what it is you pull up these images and you say hey wait a
22:50
second this might be one of them and then you get a hold of Asian carp.ca or the Ministry of Natural Resources and
22:55
Forestry and uh and report these things and that's it. And if you would you yourself would encounter one out in the
23:01
field and drop kick them at a boy. Yeah. Right under the shore. It never hit the water again. Right
23:08
on the shoreline. I'd drive for a punt or something like that. There you go. That or it uh did I mention at the top
23:14
of the program I'm wearing one of our beautiful And thank God I've got it cuz with this rain and the dampness of this
23:21
No, but it's damp. And this thing has got such a great hand. You wouldn't even know what hand means. Okay. It's got
23:27
such great hand. It's unbelievable in this kind of weather. Your wine has legs and your shirt has hand. That's correct.
23:33
Wow. That's correct. You are something. We had wine last night. Full body. You're a full body part man. Absolutely.
23:40
Dressed to the night. Boba's look. Bo's got to go. He's got a date. He's going to He's going like this to me now. I
23:45
don't know what the hell that means. It means you guys need to shut up soon. We're We're 22 in. Boba. I think we got
23:51
to go a little longer than that. I think. Oh god. But uh No, I was saying I
23:56
was No, I was talking. I got my nice waterproof hat on, too. What's this hat got? That's got leg legs and arms or
24:02
what you call that hands. Okay, with all kidding aside, that's one of the best fitting formed hats that you will ever
24:09
have. Right. But it got ears or is he
24:14
got a wiener or what the hell's this thing got? You got body parts on your stuff. I got nothing. Well, make some
24:21
up. It's got a wiener underneath it. That's me. It sucks to be you. God
24:26
tried to get me to take this hat off. Everybody, this lovely FishingCanada hat that's for sale on fishing.com and
24:31
shop.fishcanada.com. Your eyes aren't showing because you got a you had a shadow like that. There you go. That's
24:37
better. Can you see my logo though? There. I have to talk like that. That's better.
24:43
All of All of this is available at uh fishingcanada.com and or the store. Um we have other
24:51
goodies there too that we haven't met. I just wanted to mention this cuz it's so comfortable right now. They are amazing
24:56
buddies, I have to say. Yep. That are it for me? You got anything? I'm pretty much uh passed out. So, anything else
25:03
about this place? No, really. No, we're we're Jason. Jason is our the sort of
25:08
the the dude. The dude. The uh the jack of all trades around here. He was cooking us breakfast this morning. He
25:15
was fixing one of the guests outboard. You can bring your own boats here, by the way. We did that with ours. He was fixing one of the guests outboard last
25:21
night. And as an said, it's tireless. this it's morning to evening work around here for all the people and he was uh he
25:27
was working and he's worked with us so far and we're going to have a we have a little issue we're going to be hitting
25:32
on him to get some uh nuts and bolts for our boat and so he uh another great addition to this Cedar Island Lodge. So,
25:39
by the way, you mentioned you can bring your own boat if you don't have a boat or you don't want to bring your own
25:44
boat. They have a fleet of wonderful stuff. Absolutely. We were talking about how nice they are, how fishable they are
25:49
today. Gans and I were in one of them today and it was uh very fishable rigs. So, they pretty much have everything you
25:55
could possibly Go ahead, Dean. Sorry. No, no, you go ahead. You finish your thoughts. Sorry. No, my thoughts are believe you. You don't want my thoughts
26:01
to ever finish. I just thought we could move into uh the fan question brought to you by fishfindermounts.com.
26:07
Oh, I didn't know we even had one of those. Okay. Well, here we go. I thought of I thought of one. It's time for the fan question of the week brought to you
26:13
by Fishfinder. Fish Fisher. My god. Come on now. There you
26:19
go. Come on now. I was curious. Bo was Bo was embarrassed. Now, I was wondering
26:24
what uh how your experience was in the boat because this is probably the first time I've ever seen you guys not on
26:30
camera out on the water in what we call like the trailer boat, right? How was
26:36
that experience being on a Fishing Canada episode and kind of watching us from afar? Well, watching you and Nick
26:44
was painful, but that's not what you're asking. That's not what you want to know, right? No. Um in a trailer park.
26:50
Yeah, exactly. I uh I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's great. But we do that. We've
26:56
done it, Dino. Like just and let everybody else know we've done tiller boats our whole lives and and not you
27:01
know sometimes not shooting and all that and we'll do a lot of scouting and that. So, but it's great when we like Ang and I just sit there and we have the lunch
27:07
bucket in our in our boat and we have all the gear in our boat, the drone and all that. We carry all that stuff
27:13
around. When the boys need us, they call us in the walkie-talkie. Hey guys, we're going to drone now. So, and but but in the meantime, we are out looking for We
27:19
were looking this morning. Yeah. Mostly for shallow stuff for for uh to aid Nick and this uh smallmouth quest. They say,
27:26
"Okay, guys, don't waste your time all over there. We got a couple of good areas over here. We do that." And then we went out to a couple of breaks and we
27:31
looked for some walleye and some lakers here and there. So, yeah. One thing we discovered though today, the big thing
27:37
we discovered today is how spoiled we are with Liv Scope. Because these boats
27:43
don't have Liv Scope. Obviously, you can't, you know, outf these boats with live scope would be a huge expense to the lodge, but but we were out there
27:49
with a traditional fish finder and it was working. We found, you know, we saw a couple of hooks where and we know with live scope, we would have seen, you
27:55
know, 20 or 30 fish at least or something like that, knowing how to fish them, knowing what they were doing. So, we're quite spoiled in that one. You
28:01
know, that's sort of a an extension of your question, but it uh it's that's probably the most painful part I think
28:06
was having all the technology for the toys. Yeah, we didn't bring our portable, so we didn't bring it up. But
28:13
beyond that though, I I got to be honest with you. It was kind of nice just laid backill. We could say it and do whatever
28:19
we wanted to do. Um pressure's kind of off of us at the time. It's coming up
28:24
for us though in the next couple days. But but no, it was good. It was good. We uh we thoroughly enjoyed it. Don't want
28:31
to do a whole lot more of that. But anyways, in any case, how about you? Let's talk about you for a moment here.
28:36
You were this is the first time I believe that uh you No, it's not your first solo. You did another No, I did
28:42
Obaba Obacas. Okay. So, it's not your first time. But it was it was interesting. I mean, that's why I asked
28:47
it cuz for me it's such a weird experience like to grow up watching you guys and then me looking off in the in
28:55
the distance and you guys are watching me or coming in on the walkie talk. It is. It's very surreal. Like I It kind of
29:02
only clicks in every now and then because I've been working with you guys for a while now. But it definitely does every now and then. I'm like, "Holy
29:08
crap." like this is a weird experience. It definitely hits home for me. Well,
29:14
it's it uh it's hopefully there will be many more opportunities moving down the
29:20
road for both you and Nick uh to do more of that and allow us to do a little bit
29:25
more of the watching. Maybe that's in the cards after year 40. Who knows? I
29:32
got a feeling it's got to be in the cards, buddy. The way you and I more days behind us than ahead of us. I'd say
29:38
that's the writing's on the wall. Uh, we'll see. We'll see. I'm not sure these young whipper snappers are ready to go
29:45
yet. Yeah, they might not be up to snuff yet, but but they're getting there. We'll see. They're pretty good. We'll see. Pretty good. This episode is

30:23

30:29
contractually is contractually obligated to do just what I did. Yeah. Nothing else. Everything else is kind of We

no.com comment on it. Damn it. Look at it raining now. Oh my god. You
31:18
know what I think we should do for a change? It's sad. Now, normally what happens, folks, just so that you know, normally about this time, Pete and I
31:25
say, "You know what? Let's go out and scout around for some some spots for tomorrow." and we get out there, we dawn
31:32
our foul weather gear and we take the Princecraft out and we spend the rest of the daylight um and part of the
31:40
non-daylight in the rain. That's that would be normal. But I'm going to propose we do something different today.
31:46
It's our 40th season, right? Our 40th anniversary. Realize we have to fix our
31:51
boat first before we do anything. Well, no. what I was what I was what this might have something you know t I think
31:58
we should take um the boys and send them out on a scouting mission on one of the
32:04
uh wonderful craft that the folks here uh have available at Cedar Island Lodge.
32:10
I bet you Dean would be all in. I'm not sure about what Nick's feelings are, but I have a feeling Dean would. And if you have Vala go out with them, we'll let
32:16
you know. I think Va should go out with them. Well, me and Va can go find some lake trout. Perfect. Dirty old snake
32:22
drought. Perfect. That would be absolutely wonderful. Not going to happen. Not in our lifetime for sure. Uh
32:31
so we may be hitting the water again today before where I'd like to find some hikers. That'd be fun just to see them.
32:37
Yeah. Scope them up. That'd be cool. All right, that are it folks. We're going to let you go. Uh thank you for joining us
