Fish Talk – Flashers Or Dodgers

Hiya folks,

I’m up here at the Queen Charlotte Islands and I’ve been catching Chinook Salmon and Coho Salmon, and it’s been out of this world.

Part of the success this week was using Flashers like Coyote Flashers. The key is, though, there are Flashers and Dodgers, and they do different things. A Flasher is meant to go 360 degrees, whereas a Dodger gives you that side-to-side motion.

The other thing you need to think about is the amount of line behind your Dodger or Flasher; the further back you go, the more subtle the action. The closer or tighter in you go, the much more rotation or the much more wobble.

You can do the same thing with line strength; the lighter the line, the more erratic. Test, experiment, and then when you get on the fish, decide whether you want to use the Flasher or a Dodger and your days are going to be fish-filled!
