The thirst to be first. That’s what I want to talk about today. Fish go through very predictable stages—whether it’s pre-spawn, post-spawn, summer peak, into the fall, etc. And with each one of those seasonal periods, they tend to change location.
What I’ve discovered over the years is the biggest fish always tend to move first and they always tend to be the first that show up on that next, new seasonal location. So what I always say is keep testing those. It may be the middle of summer but test those late-summer locations. Test those early-fall locations.
When you’re the first, what you’ll discover is you catch the fish ahead of everybody else. And you’ll often catch the biggest fish of the season. The early bird always catches the worm. Or in this case, if you’re the angler, you always catch the biggest fish.
