0:04
oh every right you hide your own Easter egg forgot about this music I keep
0:09
thinking of the other stuff welcome to the show that's Willie launching another on the road again version of Outdoor
0:16
Journal Radio podcast come on now we are coming to you wow we're we're at uh Lon
0:24
Lodge on tagami Lake I was going to get into this whole story we're going to save that for just a moment cuz it's it's pretty exciting Peter Bowman over
0:30
there hi uh Volvo over there Dean Taylor over here I'm Angelo Viola thanks for
0:36
joining us from the road again shooting the fishing Canada Show episode which
0:42
will air sometime January I thought you were going to give a number episode number I thought that's what you were going to say no I wish I knew all that
0:49
stuff episode that would have made it hard on us later that would have been tough yeah yeah 347 and a half cuz we're not quite done
0:56
yet so there you 300o yeah a little higher than
1:02
that um Lake tamogami brother Lake tamogami and it's been a long time since
1:08
we've been here I think about 10 or 12 years yeah I yeah yeah we come up with Roy we stayed at Blue Haven right and uh
1:16
before that you guys you and Roland were up here many time many years ago like that
1:21
was 20 years ago probably and and and the every other time we've been up here
1:27
the primary target has been smallmouth bass why I'm not really sure but yeah but
1:34
it's always been smallmouth bass this time we came for a totally different reason and we're going to get into that
1:40
in just a moment but you want to hang around for that it is exciting yeah uh but before we do any of that couple of
1:47
exciting things we want to announce some new uh advertisers coming up very soon
1:52
give me a hell yeah H yeah for Partnerships I like that I like that a lot who we got who we got we got uh Rob
1:58
rine from JB second now Rob has been on the program for those of you who follow the show regularly you know uh Rob was
2:04
on talking about uh one of his companies called Freedom Boat Company it was a a Brand New Concept for boat rentals
2:12
long-term boat rentals best idea ever think about it he do they do great here
2:17
be the perfect spot for him right here bet he he probably does this is his area yeah this yeah you might be right yeah
2:22
he probably is on he's Tim right he's based out of Timmons and subury but they do Moka even yeah so that's well see I
2:30
don't think it would do as well in Moka to be honest with you I think boat rental on Moka I'll bring my yacht
2:38
instead Fifi prefer the the yacht but anyways uh
2:43
so Freedom Boat Rental along with JB cycle his other company um cycle and
2:49
Marine will be uh sponsoring this very podcast as well as sale
2:56
Outdoors back again love it we were with sale for a number of years on the
3:02
fishing Canada side yeah uh when they first opened up and right through in Ontario when the first moved intario
3:09
that's right um anyways uh so they're back we're and we're happy to have them back and back again speaking of back
3:16
again invasive species Center nice comes in for another uh term
3:24
I'm very happy with that one because it does spread the word right people I mean most people in in general most Anglers
3:29
they really don't know what's going on out there under the water except for let's catch some bass and Wallings Lake Dr or whatever right so it's important
3:36
to know everything about it right so yeah if you don't I mean things can be taken away from you pretty quick and as
3:42
you know from the last tour with invasive species that we did it was all about the invasive uh carp that were
3:49
coming in or no at that time they hadn't come in yet right since then of course
3:55
they're here uh still uh we need to be vigilant with that but uh there's a whole new thing that they're going to be
4:01
talking to us about Dean on yeah we're going to be highlighting it like we're going to try to make it more where we're highlighting like a a different species
4:08
every now and then nice perfect does cons did I hear conservation Corners coming out of the
4:14
dark wow how many years is that ago that started in the late 80s with DFO as a
4:21
sponsor of that corner fish Canada show Canada show conservation court and every week we would highlight a different DFO
4:28
initiative that was taking place around the country and that was cool and uh so
4:33
they're resurrecting that ex yeah that'll be the goal for this you know
4:38
it'll be interesting too Dean we were talking before the podcast and we'll get into it once we get inva species on there but the the the species of fish
4:47
that are classed as invasive in general sometimes are a Target species even a
4:53
Canadians we just talking about can there's a tench for instance this tench fish we're going to be talking about there I got buddies that are say oh I
4:59
got tench the other day high five like that you know it's like big exciting thing so what the hell's a tench it's just it's just I don't know I don't
5:06
don't think they're very big they look Cut to me I think they look like a uh is it a CO fish yeah it's a CO fish here
5:12
but out in England it's like a sportfish England they Lo minnow a d
5:17
minnow is it's a sportfish they load the sack with tenses you know they have those Long Live Well sacks sorry for you
5:23
English people they load them up with tenses in their tournaments and that so okay yeah but so what it's here now and
5:29
we have to well they're yeah they're here now and uh some guys they're it's a Target species for the carp fisherman
5:34
carp Anglers here like in the same vein as like goes kind of thing no it's bigger than goes much bigger than bigger
5:41
goes yeah so but yes a kind of a it's a sought after species by some very few but it is sought after by some yet it is
5:47
an invasive species right so H interesting yeah it'll be good to get into it so anyway so that's just some of
5:53
the stuff that's uh coming up in the weeks to come with in terms of new sponsors and advertisers to the show
6:00
along with the existing ones and we're working on a really exciting one we're not at Liberty
6:06
to discuss we're not Liberty whisper to meis we can't say the word uh booya on
6:14
this yet oh boo we can't so don't get me
6:19
started because you'll get me in trouble so what's the company name then I can't tell you okay sorry but booah booah for
6:26
the sponsor yeah exactly exact exactly uh uh right we don't forget the store
6:32
the goodies at shop. fishing canada.com be there or be
6:38
square a lot of the goodies that that that walleye uh embroidered walleye
6:45
hoodie here we are in the dead of summer we can't keep them in stock along with the that's a bunch of
6:51
shirt thank you still selling good still number one if you like The Outdoor Journal podcast maybe one of these
6:56
little babies wouldn't hurt you either or a fish in Canada but we have the big fishing Canada logo we got the big outdoor we got them all uh check it out
7:05
where Peter shop. fishing canada.com come on
7:10
now uh speaking of fishing Canada fishing canada.com and Allgood things.com the Gateway the portal to
7:17
your next fishing Adventure you don't want to miss that too because we have a plethora of goodies there each and every
7:23
day that you go you'll be able to go through folders of goodies prizes glor
7:29
what's going on right now de speak I don't know when this comes out but right now we have a treer we have ugly Pike
7:35
has a treer Barbe smoker right yeah smoker really yeah oh yeah I entered in
7:42
that one I was going to say nobody told me about it obviously we're going to cheat a little bit on that one aren't we and we have something pretty cool from
7:48
one of our new sponsors coming up I don't know if we're allowed to tease that well let's just tease them like
7:54
that let's just CU it'll make me feel like booya if you do that okay cuz it's it's a huge that hopefully we'll have on
8:00
the website pretty soon really huge how huge is huge is this huger than huge
8:05
huger than huge is it of the same ilk as the uh Princecraft that's coming up it
8:11
is in that ilk for sure Prince motor it may be attached to that little package
8:16
oh I know know I I forgot I know I know he's right he can't say word can't say
8:22
word but yeah it's huge good good work anyways uh go there uh every day because
8:28
every day that you enter is a step closer to being one of the hundreds of winners that we've had over the course
8:35
of the last I don't know seven eight years how many winners have we I don't know somebody should do account some that' be cool to hear you know to see
8:41
and the value the value of the prizes we've given away in total have we ever had a repeat winner um yeah we did I'm curious I
8:49
think we did once at least once yeah but they weren't the same contest like we had a fishing Canada winner who won one
8:54
of Steve's contest later on yeah they're all fishing Canada contest trust me on that one no I know that but I mean like
9:01
like we have them hosted by the various podcast so we the boys right is the eating wild wild so but on fishing
9:08
canada.com yeah and speaking of the boys and eating wild don't forget while you're on fishing.com go out go there
9:15
and check out George Journal Radio podcast Network highlights where each uh
9:22
week we highlight a a program that's on the network like eating wild like uh Doo
9:31
doie of and all ugly Pike Jerry we got Under
9:38
The Canopy we got how many more we got Pursuits uname Pursuits new boys yeah if
9:43
you haven't joined the network yet it's I highly Rec do can they join can they
9:49
join as as the network not yet I don't know Spotify doesn't even really have
9:54
the network on there Apple does and our website of course does but you can't subscribe to an entire network you have
10:00
to still go in and pick and choose your show Spotify kind of suck in a way do they have a lot of sucky well they allow
10:06
us to put the videos on Spotify now which Apple doesn't Okay so if you're on Spotify right now you can turn on the
10:12
video and see where we're at which you should CU there's something pretty cool in the background yeah okay I'll give it
10:18
to I've been hearing mixed reviews on Spotify have we done enough gratuitous uh marketing and advertising no we need
10:24
we need one more uh fishing Canada YouTube please check it out check it out there always something and we're
10:30
recording stuff as we speak this week we're going to throw up there we need support and help there I'll tell you
10:35
right now we need support and help there and and and folks listening to this or
10:40
watching this on YouTube can do it very simply cost you nothing yeah a bit of
10:45
time but you know what we give you a bit of time each and every week not just on this show on the fishing candidate show
10:52
I mean we we spend hours and hours with you each week we do require a little bit
10:57
of your time if you are not currently a subscriber to uh either the Outdoor
11:03
Journal Radio Show podcast or one of the other uh podcast shows on our Network we
11:11
really really really really really need your help you need to subscribe show us a little bit of love I know I've asked
11:18
you in the past but we don't ask enough apparently when you listen to other podcasters they're constantly saying oh
11:23
and by the way before you do that can you push the button right there and subscribe because you know I'm a really
11:28
nice person well we don't like doing that too we're not nice people well that
11:34
could be that could have something to do with it I mean I don't know we could use we really appreciate it be nice I've
11:41
lost my headset there we go here um where was I going with that I was going
11:46
someplace I don't recall where but um well we just did the podcast Network we
11:53
YouTube and all that stuff we're sitting in the front room I I guess of the
12:00
living room yeah of our cabin yes you might be wondering why have we got this old Antiquated uh Dusty Lake troat dirty
12:08
old snake troat daddy like that mount's got to be older than you oh God yeah that fish is older than me for sure I
12:15
guarantee he's a red fin I didn't notice that yeah see that yeah yeah I saw that wow so wow uh this is the front to when
12:22
you come into a cabin this this massive room is is how many bedrooms is there like he said sleeps like 14 willing to
12:29
get really tight really there's three beds in my four beds in my room did I tell you I watched you sleeping the
12:35
other night I did did that did that bother you it bothered me more when I came out of the bathroom last night and
12:41
you were at my door outside of the was I was that's not funny he got that osmo
12:48
set up in your room so what's unique about uh this this
12:56
structure uh as Dean just said it's got like five or six bedrooms but there is a
13:03
balcony uh Terrace that goes all around the building and accesses all of the
13:10
rooms right so you literally walk and I discovered that the other night uhuh sounds like you did yeah and so it was
13:18
kind of cool and I you no my curtains were closed cuz I've been around yours were closed I've been around you very
13:24
disappointed um and so I I found out where everybody was was staying and so
13:29
that was cool and and in the morning I get up early I get up way before these
13:34
guys get up so I get up with my coffee and I thought wow that Terrace that goes surrounds all of the building is perfect
13:42
for my morning walk and and uh coffee and as I'm walking around his his door
13:49
was wide open his curtains were wide open I look and there he is sliding door like the Well Screen the door was open
13:55
yeah but the screen was closed but the last door yeah yeah and there he is lying like Count Dracula on his bed and
14:02
whoa that's a freaky looking deal right there you should have taken a picture of him I thought about I thought no that's
14:09
that's that's probably that's just pushing lineing the Peeping Tom is okay pictur the night after in case you
14:16
wanted to wide open I'm not closing naked the next night there you go and
14:21
then this morning I I go do my walk and he's not in his bed when I walk by oh that's cool
14:28
you got an issue there boy you got some I do now now that I know so I walk by
14:33
and I go all around the building and now I'm walking back and as I'm walking back he had come out at the shower and he's
14:39
standing in front of his door naked by the way that I'm scarred emotionally on
14:45
that well you deserve it you deserve you deserve it anyways that's funny that's what we do on the road what do you want
14:50
me to tell you it's it's a lonely life lonely life speaking but going back to it this is a great facility and this is
14:56
available to anybody you get you call Lon Lodge up and and book your stay here this flooor you can like Dean said you
15:03
get the whole floor all the bedrooms all the beds it's it's very cool you can you have a kitchen you can cook here bring
15:08
your own food if you want or you can get the all-inclusive package and they will feed you down there at the restaurant too so which is really big and the the
15:15
cook here w unb w one for you buddy you got her but he's so good my God he's
15:20
good and talk about a smallware here so day one night one Pete and I are
15:26
sitting after dinner everybody had had gone and we're sitting at the table on
15:31
their front dock area uh which also is their outdoor dining area and we're
15:39
sitting there just chatting my phone rings because you have full service here by the way in terms of uh phone and and
15:45
Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi so my phone rings and I opened it up and there it was I show a
15:51
feet it was our our co-host a Steve NS Wiki calling so anyway so I answered it
15:57
and put it on on um on handsfree and so that P could hear and
16:03
we're having a conversation and as we're talking first thing he says to hand are you on the treadmill that's what he said
16:08
to you you on the treadmill um so we're talking away and as we're talking the chef obviously it
16:15
was the end of his day as well and uh he wandered out and sat at the
16:20
table joint adjacent from where we were and he was on his phone and looking
16:25
stuff up on on uh on emails and stuff and I left the phone on on
16:32
handsfree and we're talking to Stephen you could I could see it of the corner of my eye that he perked up a little bit
16:39
wolf did yeah yeah and he the the wolf the the chef and he kind of got
16:44
interested in the conversation and at one point he yells out is that Steve
16:50
that's Wiki I said yeah and as it turns out he was Steve's first chef at showe
16:56
lodge that was what a small world like totally freaked me out so the two of
17:02
them uh started having conversation it was cool it was good but I was getting
17:08
to this old Mount that's sitting behind me here there's a couple of old mounts behind not beside you right well there
17:15
that that was not a trophy this is a trophy this is a throwback right here
17:20
exactly and uh so as soon as we came in uh first day we checked in we we all
17:26
kind of gravitated over to this glorious old real uh trophy Mount skin Mount of a
17:35
lake trout and we just said oh my God look at that like that that is a
17:40
throwback for sure thing of the past catch those things you're going to catch something like that here in South I
17:48
would call it Southern Ontario not completely South but 5 hours north of
17:53
the GTA so to me that's South I don't care what everybody says it's not even
17:58
the near North it's south of the near North to me anyway so we looked at well
18:05
those were the Glory Days when they were catching fish that big on on a lake trout that big on this Lake and so we
18:11
went on our business and uh the next day we went out Lake tro
18:17
fishing and the first fish we caught was one of those yeah now we were told by by
18:23
the way uh Adam and Caleb Hugh are the owners of this fine establishment uh
18:29
called Lon Lodge and uh in all fairness Adam did tell us uh prior to us coming
18:36
up that yeah you know what you could get uh 30 to 40 inch lake trout here quite
18:42
regularly but we hear that a lot we hear it all the time D let's be honest about selling point he wants to get they want
18:48
to get us up there to shoot the show and he said that you could get some of those wonderful 8 PB to 10 PB Whiley although
18:55
you know his biggest P personal best was 12 on this Lake in South Central Ontario
19:03
we said yeah okie dokie then so we kind of had our his his website does have a
19:09
lot of big fish on the pictur and they're current looking fish so that for sure does it does and so we uh we you
19:16
know we we didn't set our the bar too high we managed our expectations I in my
19:21
mind if we could get a half a dozen 15 lb lake trout might have been
19:29
happy with 8 to 10 you know honestly and then you get a 15 for your big fish right you think about it so bottom line
19:36
is he wasn't lying in they're here right now in lro
19:41
terms this is not out of the question in fact you're going to see an upcoming fishing Canada episode that will premere
19:49
somewhere January of 2025 you're going to see a whole
19:55
episode of those give me a hell yeah I'll give you a hell yeah on that like
20:01
we were shocked after the first one tougher and a Bag of Nails those things oh my God they beat you up and then the
20:07
second one we were a little less shocked the third one we like whoa this is this is crazy and then the fourth one as
20:15
we're as we're recording this podcast we put three of those in the boat this morning before this podcast by what time
20:22
oh God I don't know boys 9 yeah 9 at the late we got up early but
20:29
weren't out that two hours we hours we bang these three Giants the only three fish we caught they were giants and
20:35
these would be personal best for pretty much anybody who has not ventured
20:42
into of Northwest Territories Manitoba way Northern like Lake nun
20:49
May um Great Bear for sure Superior Superior maybe but we're talking 5 hour
20:58
Drive we're talking like to me a 5H hour drive is like blink and you're going to miss it yeah right yeah so doable by
21:05
everybody you know what I mean really it's nothing and you don't need to bring a boat we brought our boat Adam's got a guiding service here too you don't need
21:11
to bring a boat he's got a great boat for guiding you out there and he will put you on the spots so it's uh it's a
21:17
surprise man we were we're pleasantly surprised especially after this morning and we got some such cool footage we got
21:24
Liv scope footage that Dean was recording Liv scope on his phone because we can you can tether with the uh Wi-Fi
21:29
on your units now and we got all kinds of footage like that we had uh we did a uh we caught one that was full of air
21:36
she didn't burp on the way up so we were trying to figure things out we said you know what I brought a descending device we put the descending device on dropped
21:43
her down and these Bo burped it about a half a dozen times like a newborn by the way that was a very good nice job I
21:49
didn't realize you were so I didn't do it that was Adam okay I was I was going to give it to you we dropped this thing
21:56
back down on this device and engine I was I was working it down so I wasn't on the screen an and Dean were both just an
22:01
was freaking out he said oh my God is see going down is he go hey it just took off sideways we dropped that fish down from floating to swimming away uh to
22:08
live another day it was so cool and you're going to see all that as well we we had we had the enjoyment of watching it live but you're going to see it on
22:15
the fishing Canada episode I think it's going to be one of the greatest fishing Canada episodes we've ever produced it's going to be very technical too like we
22:21
literally CAU them every way including cherry picking them or whatever you want to call them like picking out the fish
22:26
seeing on the scope dropping down 60 F feet of water and all of a sudden whoosh goes over and eats it that is cool stuff
22:33
so we've talked about it uh probably at nauseum for most of you but we talked about um trying this
22:41
new way of using Liv scope by uh using two separate units one in the vertical
22:48
position and one horizontal which is perspective mode but when we tried it
22:54
originally there was there was an issue because uh two of the 34s in unison tend
23:01
to run a lot of interference in fact U Garmin will tell you that it's
23:06
impossible to do that so we quickly said well what's the alternative uh the 62
23:13
the XR 62 version of Liv scope bigger stronger uh punchier unit uh does not
23:21
interfere with the 34 uh the uh LVS 34 and we we've been talking about using
23:29
the two of them and marrying those two signals to kind of overlap so that we can really pinpoint where those fish are
23:37
and I think this episode of the fishing Canada show is finally we've we've we've
23:42
come to a head now it does work it's really cool to be able to say yeah it's
23:48
that fish is 52 feet to the port side of the boat but now when we look at the
23:56
perspective version of that you know dead nuts where it is it's not just five
24:03
or 10 ft off now you can pinpoint exactly where that cast needs to go and
24:08
I got perfect sub too that perspective mode you just see that little line you
24:14
see them swimming you can see them some of and these fish move so much fish move way more than people think you're thinking oh they're stuck on the bottom
24:20
eh how many we didn't see any stuck well we saw one this morning stuck in the bottom that was it I think he stayed in
24:25
that one spot suspender the rest of them they're moving all time they they're down there feeding right that's what they're doing they're chasing stuff
24:31
they're maybe they're afraid of your boat who knows what they're doing they're always moving like just constantly I think what impressed me
24:37
more than anything else was to see that you know much like humans fish are individuals and some fish could tolerate
24:44
the intrusion the intrusion being us uh other fish couldn't I mean we had fish
24:51
that you could clearly see spooking at 70 ft away and another fish that would
24:56
allow us and by the way those must must have been the dumb fish because we
25:01
usually caught those uh that would allow us to sit right over top of them and drop baits to them yeah and those were
25:08
the catchable fish versus the ones that at 100 feet away they would start scurrying maybe it's a hunger thing
25:14
maybe these guys are just totally hungry and they want to eat and those guys have already eaten a couple of smelt and they're saying oh maybe I'll get
25:20
something here what are they're just cruising who knows right could be full versus uh starving we got two two boys
25:25
on our boat that are starving all the time they're going to grab any hot doggy thr in front of them you know what I mean you and I were going to be picky
25:31
well no true V dog it's got to be a veggie dog yeah yeah yeah not there's anything wrong with that cuz I'm I'm
25:37
almost uh at your level now in terms of diet except the chunks of meat that I
25:43
still eat both like those sausages you had this morning oh were they wonderful sausages and boiled eggs the boat oh my
25:50
God that was good uh the weather's been a little spectacular we we got caught in
25:55
a situation yesterday that I don't mind telling you you would think a couple of seasoned veterans like Pete and
26:01
I we've been exposed to a lot of environmental you know those special wow
26:08
M moments in life this one was uh going to probably sit in the top 12 for me
26:14
because there was a lot of uh I wasn't afraid I was just curious as to how we
26:20
were going to deal with what was coming uh our way we were in the middle I mean
26:25
the weather has been absolutely spectacular until uh midafternoon yesterday a storm
26:32
moved in we're far end the lake a storm moved in and we could see it at the top
26:38
end we could see it kind of forming and we're saying boy I wonder if it's going to go that way that way or is it going
26:43
to come this way and we could see it we could see the rain coming down and all of a sudden then we could see
26:50
lightning happening and and thunder and it was starting to come this way and uh
26:56
we were all wondering in fact Dean and V started getting into their rain suits right away yeah uh Pete and I toughed it
27:03
out uh Pete was the last one to give in by the way I do want to give him credit for that it was pouring rain he was
27:08
still standing there until somebody knocks some sense into hey Pete you might want to put on some rain GE it's
27:14
raining oh is it raining yet but we could see the storm shifting
27:20
so it was at the South and we could just see it shifting and shifting and we so Ang and I knew hey it is breaking a little bit so we're were hoping and I
27:26
was going to outrun it my I was trying to formulate you know what direction do I start running to first
27:33
cuz I wanted to out the you going to we were going to go North to the other fishing spot that we have up there and
27:38
uh but we avoided it but I'll tell you what that's what I want to talk about it was dead flat flat flat flat C so there
27:45
was no wind zero wind and how many shocks did I get boys I must have got 10
27:50
to 15 static electricity shots it was insane and nobody else got them I was touching the Liv scope handle I got one
27:57
of my foot through the base plate I got everything I touched it was everything I touched the the Fishfinder decom handle
28:05
the fishfindermounts.com fishfindermounts.com that's how good is it's electricity It's So Good by the way
28:12
we don't recommend doing what we did I know we always say that do as we say not as we do generally speaking I think I
28:20
honestly believe that we should have got out of there for sure we should have got
28:26
out of there should have got because we got lucky last minute because it was coming our way last minute uh it started
28:34
moving in another Direction and we could see it sort of going off to the east
28:40
nasty looking but when you were confronted with to the point where he starts getting shocks lots of shocks
28:47
lots of shocks you need to get the hell out of there I couldn't touch I couldn't anything I'm moved but I want
28:53
to go back to that fishan mouse.com for a second so we're working with these guys very close mostly in a sponsorship
28:59
package with the fish and Canada show etc etc and and through working with us we have found some faults and flaws in
29:06
the older systems that they had they gave us a prototype which is going to be available probably by next year they now
29:13
have the the best fish finder Mount I I swear pole mount like they have this
29:18
this clip that uh or I don't even know how to call it's a handle a pop-up handle half screw the thing comes up
29:25
drops back in it's it is fantastic I I'm just brag about it is it's so good but the best part is that little tur now you
29:32
don't have to turn with a your handle you know turn like this you have to go all the way back like that it's got to twist handle you just twist the handle
29:38
and that little fish Arrow they give you a little fishy Arrow there that points back and forth and to and fro this is
29:43
the deal if you're looking for a pole mount fish uh for your Liv scope this is for Liv scope this is the deal
29:59

30:24
over to fishing canada.com while you listen to the rest of this episode click contests and sign up for all the latest
30:29
fishing Canada giveaways and now back to the episode so the um Garmin units the the
30:40
Kraken the Garmin Kraken which is their latest uh um rendition of their electric
30:46
motor although the force is still um there yeah yeah of course um you'll
30:52
never get the bass guys to go to a kraken no and the W guys won't go to the forest exactly but the Kraken is their
30:57
latest uh version of the electric trolling motor and what sets it apart from most
31:04
other trolling motors I believe is that you can uh fish the Liv scul cable down
31:12
through the shaft so one of the problems with livescope if you call it a problem although it's a minor inconvenience as
31:19
far as I'm concerned for the benefits that you get using Liv scope but um with the Kraken you fish the the big life
31:27
scope cable right down through and into the head and which connects to
31:32
transducer etc etc and that would be the normal way most people would use the
31:40
Kraken I believe it's kind of sold with that feature right yeah it's all personal so I think it's about 50/50
31:47
5050 and I'll tell you why because nothing is more annoying when you are um
31:55
on to fish like we are here on the lake trout now these lake trout as Pete said sometimes they'll move sometimes they
32:01
won't you got to constantly be looking for them and a lot of times we we've been locking on those fish and trying to
32:09
stay away from them so we don't spook them we lock the the motor and now we
32:14
cherry-pick them and start casting to them well when you're on lock mode on electric motor depending on where the
32:20
wind's coming from how much when you've got uh current I mean there's a lot of factors that keep moving that boat and
32:27
the motor is doing what you asked it to do and that is lock on a specific GPS coordinate that you punched in as soon
32:35
as you punch the lock button it sends up a signal satellite satellite says boat you must stay in this one spot but as
32:43
the elements are working against the boat that trolling motor is constantly turning left right forward back because
32:49
it was told by you to stay on the one spot well when your transducer for Liv
32:55
scope is hooked up to the shaft of this motor motor whether it's through the shaft of the Kraken or whether it's
33:00
attached to the outside of the force that turns the
33:06
transducer so you can't keep a lookout on the spot that you want to cast to if
33:11
that's going like this all the time we decided to hook up with these folks that
33:17
have produced these wonderful um mounts
33:22
that allow us to lock in on a spot and stay totally focused and targeted to the
33:30
fish at all times oh my finally really
33:36
finally and I believe it it's a game changer completely oh man it I'm telling you you want to lock on a fish it's like
33:43
it's like locking on right it's like a radar onto a fish so it's cool it works so well it it was for this kind of stuff
33:50
sniping no they're not cheap but again if you're going into a Liv scope system the whole nine yards you're trolling
33:56
motor everything on in this game is expensive now I've cheaped out on them before and I've bought like three of
34:01
them so did we our first one eventually you're going to spend that much money they're trash yeah it's just garbage if
34:07
you're looking at the one any of these clamp on the side of your boat for 70 bucks don't buy it don't buy it it's no
34:13
the money don't go it it's no good for sure totally that's another thing we get very quickly they make the best gunnel
34:20
mount for a portable fish finder kit that we've ever used to the clamp alone which you can use you can take it from your big boat to that if you want if
34:27
you're not mounted through the boat and all that with your wiring and it is the most amazing clamp again for that it's
34:32
the only one we've ever used that that works for us otherwise there they tip up they spin they you know what I mean so
34:38
these guys are U Cutting Edge for sure so getting back to we're way off topic
34:43
and we apologize but you could tell we're pretty excited about this new technology that we've had the fortune to work with uh but getting back to this
34:51
episode one thing I'm curious about it it's and and by the way I'm as
34:56
guilty as an expert when people say when's When's the best time to go lake trout fishing and I always say well you
35:03
know you got to do it early right after ice out they they come up and they're
35:09
shallower and they're easier to catch and otherwise once you know July comes
35:14
around forget it by August good luck this is the end of July we're talking
35:21
about mhm the last day of July is it yeah yeah July 31st and apparently these
35:27
fish are like this the whole season that they're fishable mhm so yeah my question
35:35
is is this a unique situation or is it that most lake trout Anglers
35:41
automatically because they've been told that you can't fish them after after you
35:47
know mid June or early June at the latest that they just scratch them off
35:52
the calendar as opposed to now with this technology that we're talking about being able to fish these fish all year
35:59
round well you know during Open Season I think you still get the the trollers the downrigger guys they'll go out all year
36:05
for sure right they're going to stay on it all year because they know they can catch a couple trolling here and there what we're doing is totally different so
36:11
maybe that's the the different game you know we're we're we're literally cast into our every one of our fish we're not
36:17
there's no steel line involved there's I mean they're heavy weights but they're only 2 ounces 2 to three ounces whatever they are ounce and a half even but the
36:23
trollers they are I mean we saw one this morning out there but you see them in you know all the Lakes North of Kingston
36:29
that have lake trout uh Lakes North of oswa even that have lake trout those trollers rad all year like you're
36:34
talking Lake Rosso msca yeah not even that far yeah any lake trout Lakes any of them like foris foris lake is north
36:42
of us uh and they're they're trolling all year but they're they're down 80 you know 60 80 90 ft on their ball down rer
36:49
balls all day long sort of thing like that so we're fishing that depth now yeah no I know it's good it's I think
36:55
the the casters what I'm saying is I don't think the casting people realize they can catch fish this time of year trollers no so this is a whole new thing
37:01
and maybe it's because of the Advent of this forward view oh God scoping systems
37:07
that de you fish them in the summer at your Camp don't you I fish them in the summer but if I can repeat the this will
37:14
take over what I do because that's what I was saying we have so many wonderful uh lake trout opportunities that are
37:20
untouched from from you know early June till when when's it 30th of September
37:27
October yeah these fish really truly are untouched now when we're talking the
37:33
northern reaches of the country obviously the lakes that we talked about earlier like great slave and Great Bear
37:39
Etc um they're almost done now they're done in August they're pretty much done I would but coming into the southern
37:47
parts of the country I'm sure there are a thousand lakes tons that have got huge
37:53
lake trout that are totally unexploited I'll tell you a guy who's been doing it lately again I mentioned him a thousand
37:59
times Michael burus he's been doing it north of napan him and his buddies are going out and they're scoping him and
38:04
they are catching literally a bad day is 20 to 30 fish lake trout yeah and sometimes 50 to 60 lake trout not big
38:11
like these guys but tons of them he says it's unbelievable so wow yeah so it's
38:17
been done by some guys they're definitely doing it through the summer but uh so this whole scoping thing is kind of opened up a new a new brand new
38:24
fishery far absolutely abs the traditional fish like you know
38:30
walleye um and bass I think scoping has kind of changed that sport as well yeah
38:36
and you know what you don't need Liv scope to do this you can do this with your this is the best use of your traditional fish finder ever I've tried
38:44
it though like that's how I've been doing it forever it's tough because you're just behind yeah like you can't
38:49
react to them as they're moving absolutely you're just like a few seconds behind and that matters out on
38:55
but you can do it for those fish under the boat you can do it that's that's the one you're going to be targeting you're not going casting out to anything what
39:00
the guys are referring to is that scoping as we're calling it or live scope um it's realtime technology right
39:08
so what you see is actually happening right now up until now everything that we've had has been in the rear view
39:16
mirror so yeah you see what you think is a fish because you're not sure but you
39:22
think it's a fish but unfortunately what you just saw happened four five six seconds ago you see how quick these are
39:28
moving exactly think about that you know what moves the most is walleye oh my
39:34
they're freaking ridiculous they're just always like we always thought small Mo were the only on was did it they all do
39:40
it except for large Mo they're lazy bastards stay here
39:47
today I apologize to all you large most viewers out there don't mean to me love
39:53
larg moou me loves them C my first five pounder this year so far get out of here I got a good for you yeah was happy for
40:00
very happy um yeah that's it you do not want to miss this episode I don't know
40:06
exactly when it's going to air but uh we will be talking about let's call it tanks on the on the tamogami tanks the
40:12
tanks of Tomy I like that something with the word tanks I like uh we will be uh putting it out on
40:20
socials and on our website and probably doing pod about it it'll be all over oh
40:26
yeah this is good fishing here folks this is world class you don't want to miss it it's uh it's like I said earlier
40:32
on it's probably going to be one of our top 10 episodes ever produced it's that
40:38
spect we got a nice season we got those MacKenzie River Pike coming up too we got some nice big coming up this year
40:45
Dean mentioned that that this was an incredible year that we're having there's and we still have a lot more to
40:50
like we have some cool trips lined up still oh my God a feeling based on
40:55
what's been happening this year we're going to break our striper uh bass
41:00
personal best records I feel and you know how big yours was oh my God beat
41:05
that and he might have a great white shark on his tail oh my God how cool would that
41:12
be so anyways um that are it we uh just wanted to take a few moments and fill
41:18
you in on what's going on on the road with the fishing cada show and of course Outdoor Journal podcast as well uh
41:26
unless you guys got anything else to than so contribute I am pretty much spent on behalf of the entire team we're
41:32
heading home in a couple of days and we will be um grounded I think for a week
41:39
we're for a week we head up to obaba that's right and it's right here it's
41:44
right not far from here North from here yeah didn't somebody say that that's the way to he said he called it obaba Bay or
41:51
Baba reach or something like that yeah something like that something like that so that's cool and he thinks that might be where you were with Roland 25 30
41:57
years ago that's what he saying for all I know I might have been I have no idea all I know from that that's an
42:03
interesting one too I just want to quickly share that with folks so R and I
42:08
were sitting uh here um oh God I'm going to say 20 years ago at least yeah it's
42:14
got to be we had come up here to do a smallmouth bass show and um the first
42:22
day that we were here there was an American couple of American guys that were at the dock and of course they
42:28
recognized Roland they didn't know who the hell I was surprise uh but of course they recognized Roland and uh it's the first
42:37
time I ever really saw Roland operate if you know what I mean I know
42:44
exactly where you're going Roland is one of the best people on the planet and I mean this with all due respect this is
42:50
not a negative uh comment here he can extrapolate information from Anglers
42:57
like I have never seen before he is really good so anyways so hey how you
43:04
doing guys you know good Roland boy you know we've been watching you all our lives really love you and he said yeah
43:09
yeah this is my good friend Angelo he's got a he's got a little little little TV show here in Canada but anyway never
43:16
mind him so how long you guys been up here well Roland we we've been coming up here for well three generations my daddy
43:22
and his Granddaddy and we become so really so just the way Rand talk like you
43:30
really know this Lake huh and he gave him that roling look huh it's well yeah
43:35
we know wow wow I just my first time been up here you know uh me and Angela
43:42
we want to we want to find some small mouth but you know thing is shooting TV shows you just don't have a whole lot of
43:48
time on the water like you guys for example like uh like you guys have got hundreds and hours we just you know we
43:55
go in and we got to do all our thing and we we're going to see if we can Mosey around here and find some some small
44:02
mouth here or there I certainly hope we find a few because we got to shoot a show well Roland for God's sakes you
44:09
don't have to do that how come well we got all kinds of
44:14
smallmouth here on this body you do yeah a matter of fact I know a spot
44:20
that you guys do you like top water fishing oh I love that's my best like I'm listening to this it was like
44:25
theater I'm listening cuz I know what Roland's doing and these guys open the book they
44:32
literally opened the book uh the like years of expertise and and hard fishing
44:42
and working to get these sacred spots these guys just handed them all to
44:47
Roland it was the best wow and Roland was so unassuming about it and so
44:54
genuinely appreciative obviously but he didn't make them feel afterwards like okay see you guys later I know where I'm
45:01
going fishing like it was all just it was a wonderful experience and needless to say the next day um we cuz they they
45:09
actually marked our map that's how good they were back then there was no GPS coordinates or anything right but so
45:15
they actually physically marked our map and and uh the next day we went into
45:20
spot one and oh my God spent two days on it it was most spectacular small most bad fishing on the plan that's where I
45:27
learned from Roland that yes yes you can catch small B bass on
45:35
top water baits in 40 feet of water yeah yeah 43 feet to be exact because that's
45:43
what we did they were smacking top water baits between two points of land one was
45:49
Island and one was Mainland but a narrow little stretch of granite walls on either side 43 feet deep in the middle
45:57
and a stretcher boat a half a mile in length and we just filled the boat with
46:02
big giant smalles on top water bait so I bet you if you had Liv scope then you'd have seen a bunch of bait balls like you
46:09
see why they're up there right they're on that bait like we see here all the time now they'd be on see we didn't know to be honest with you we were just
46:14
thankful that we got this great gift from these two guys from Virginia uh but we had no idea what they
46:21
were on they were on this bait for sure cuz we're seeing tons of it here tons of it this lake has got more bait in it
46:26
than I I've ever seen think I mean it's just everywhere you go and no wonder and the Northeast Arm is even more he said
46:32
that's the one said the most so I know wow and by the way we're about to experience in a few hours are going to
46:37
go out and test and now we have no reason to believe that uh Adam Pew is
46:43
anything other than completely 100% right when he says this could be the
46:48
best Walley fishing as well as Lake truck fishing that we'll ever experience
46:55
I now believe he was telling the truth about them Critters but we're about to
47:00
test the uh the Walley the he says 10 and 12 are are totally
47:06
doable blow I like those big 30 plus Ines they were fun blow my mind so we'll
47:11
uh fill you in on that at a subsequent episode uh but anyways for now we're way
47:16
overdue uh to sign off on behalf of the entire Outdoor Journal Radio podcast
47:22
Network team uh Volvo over there Nick is not here cuz he's back home studying for
47:28
school uh Dean Taylor we we hope we can only pray uh Dean Taylor a producer uh
47:35
Peter Bowman my co-host dienel well thanks for joining us folks we'll talk to you from the road next time
