usually go cottaging right either friends Cottages or family Cottage or whatever so um and I is that is is that

because you don't want to spend the big bucks going to like a resort or are taking the the family you know away on

an all-inclusive and like some exotic land or is that cuz you're too too too

emotionally involved with the dollar like what is the reason for that I I'd have to say my family absolutely loves

going to the cottage without question loves it they've grown up with it they've done all that

so um and why would you go to Florida in the middle of the summer right summer holiday I'm just saying I'm talking

taking them spend a couple of bucks and take them to I don't know Costa Rica or someplace or the Canary Islands or

Europe go on a European Vacation my wife and I are going to do that when I'm rid of you we're going to do that when

you're rid of me what do you mean you're rid of me you my life can you know put some time oh you're waiting you're

waiting for that moment no not really good luck with that one yeah so yeah

that's what we do we do a lot of cottaging and uh and it's fun right you know so we uh do a lot of drinking no I

I I I bring home a lot of beer lately like I I I bring a lot with me I just don't

drink it I know or leave it there whatever I I just don't drink it as much I anticipate drinking a good amount and

don't do it anymore so a lot of things as you get older you find you anticipate you go in with hope I smoked enough

cigars though I made up one or two big boys a day I like that that's kind of nice one or two a day sometimes too not

very often but definitely I always make sure I'm going to have a big cigar a day you know what I mean a nice time timing

is everything for those right cuz it's an hour it's an hour plus right so you have to make sure do you build your day

around that that cigar like you say okay at I'm going to have that cigar at noon no no you can't do how does it work you

can't do that the problem the problem with the cigar you have to do it outside right and the problem with the cotage

I'm assuming I'm assuming at the cottage you're outside most of the time right no you're in a cottage you have a cottage you eat inside and all that stuff too

right of course you do right um we I got a buddy that's got a cottage you know the Buddy see the name but he's got the

you'd rather be inside than outside he's got a he's got a the basement's got a stage with a full set of instruments

electric guitars bass guitar drum kit beside that he's got a slate pool table he's got a 72in TV he's got a bar set up

downstairs like that that's just the downstairs of the cottage so you sometimes you don't mind staying in if it's a rainy day or whatever like that

the cigar thing you can't the problem with when you're at a cottage you're camping or whatever you're outside is in

Ontario is that soon as that dark hits the mosquitoes come out ridiculous even to this day like right now this but it

wasn't a bad year no but this is the time they come out it gets bad at that time right so you can't enjoy your cigar

over there so you got to so I had to make sure I did it earlier in the day so I'd go fishing in the morning or something before everybody gets up so

that's my plan I get up I get up I go fishing in the mornings and then when everybody gets up I I drive back and I have brunch or something like that and

then the day Carries On from there whatever we done do so part of that my cigar a better

when you're exploring new water and you're trying to put together a pattern and and the weather is cooperating and

it just is there a better place more enjoyable it's very but see not for me because see that's why I love it I know

I like that with and you and I share that time together but the problem is you're you get oh I got to cast here I

got a cast there that cigar is in your mouth and you take an extra haul and and you're not enjoying your cigar you

everything else versus going back to the cottage sitting at down at the deck and with a beer cold beer you know and

you're just sitting there looking at the lake and say I enjoy this cigar and that's why you have to have two you have

to have one on the bow of the boat that's probably what I I didn't even realize you got me you you you you you

before and uh in was doing so I had to stop and get some ice and I stopped there and at a store and the guy hey

going home I said no no I'm going to I got to hit a lake I'm going fishing today he so all your day off you go fishing are you kidding me say yes but I

do buddy I had an opposite experience because funny we we obviously get

recognized a lot um and people do always say what are you doing here like in a

grocery store or at a at an emergency ward in a hosital you doing here you know what I mean like I always say like

you like you don't fit into this picture so on uh the day be before I left for my

vacation I uh I went to uh a car uh event um uh autof Fest or something was

called and so I've got my car up there and and the one here in aswa no they moved it to Oxbridge oh okay huge event

massive event so anyway so I drove up there and and like people are always

shocked that you would be involved in something other than fishing CU I'm sitting there Nick and I Nick was with me I'm sitting there you you know with

my car and these two guys tell everybody a car you got oh I've got a little uh

come on a nice little Camaro give me a hell yeah what year with that car will

so anyway so we're sitting there and uh these two guys come up and they love the car and him and Han and and I'm letting

them do their thing you know letting it breathe the situation breathe a little bit before I walk in on the situation

and and see if they've got any questions and so I'm sitting got like lawn chairs

away from the car sitting back here see you having a cigar I was I was having a cigar actually I was this Gods son I'm

having a cigar and these two guys are drooling on my car and they're touching it

and and so I get up as I'm getting up he's he's the the one guy looks at me

and he wants to talk to me but something happened something

happened that completely screwed him up from like he probably had three or four questions

already in line you know car questions right but he completely lost his

any fishing Canada paraphernalia on no I've got my Harley-Davidson uh hat sort

of backwards that that that drooping hat and I got I got a meum auto auction

know you from you freaked him out right there and just then just then his buddy

turned around he heard the commotion he said for God's sakes it's the fishing

guy the fish that's what we always get to is the fishing guy it's never an it's never Pete the fishing guy just freaked out

needless to say there was no car questions or answers at that point it just went totally but he he did say

first thing he said when he got his wits about it what the hell are you doing here you know as if to say because it

was Saturday morning as if to say like Saturday morning you should be on TV doing your fishing show yeah yeah yeah

no we get it all the time for any we love we're not making fun guys trust me we love it we love it we we live we work

those 12 and 14 hour days and those 10 days stints out in the field in all

kinds of condition year in and year out for that very moment when

you say I know you yeah yeah and it always turns into always turns into a

good conversation afterwards it always you know it goes into the fishing World finally you guys talk cars but I'm sure

you eventually you get a little bit of fish talk in there oh always turns into fishing talk and it's great information you know you you can help them if they

there where's that Lake again what you say so what happened because of this chance meeting the one guy who

originally was in shock he took me aside at one point and

the other guy his buddy uh was talking to Nick and he says you got to help my buddy you got to help him he's got a kid

who's screaming out dad take me fishing and he's not doing it and he used to

fish as a kid his dad took him out all the time and now he's not doing you got to talk to my buddy you've got to

convince him that he's got and so the conversation for the most part after

that was me you know talking to this guy he's got a 14-year-old kid who wants to go

fishing and Dad's saying he doesn't have time and like it like this whole thing

by the time I was finished I think Buddy was ready to buy a boat beautiful so beautiful uh if you're watching this

shock there's a shocker where'd you go good man um I have a cabin up north in Ontario like8 hours north of here in

oswa um the cabin is in aswa 8 hours hours North from asa8 hours around

driving around aswa again traffic B traffic around here now lately yeah so I went up there I go up

like once a year it's only worth like you need to take more time to make it worthwhile cuz it's just it's a whole

day in a whole day out who can afford to have a cabin for one day a year I can't

it's a land lease it's been in my family forever oh it's not yours personally no no it's a it's a family thing okay and

and and and so you went there by yourself no my dad and my brother and then two friends went up too awesome

family thing bun beds in this little cabin oh my God any snoring going on oh nonstop all kinds of sounds sounds all

kinds of sounds a little bit of farting a little bit of snoring I was going to say there is an Essence oh there's an

Essence there is an Essence that that that permeates little cabins like that after

about 3 days of Five Guys sleeping in one room in bunk

beds there's a a an aura about it or an

aroma I don't know which one it is but there is something magical that happens in that little Shack that [ __ ] and as

soon as you walk in it hits you right in the face yeah if somebody else walked in there it' probably be a bit of a shock

my God you got used to it after a few days and you got to drink a few beers to make sure you go to sleep right you got to you got to have a little bit sleeping

be with that beer could you imagine uh Steve this our buddy uh if we were trapped in

that situation how much whiskey we would have Steve would not be invited okay as as much as we love him and as much as he

loves fishing if we're going to be with him for the next 3 weeks it was one room cabin Steve and no electricity Steve

would not be invited we just you can't do it it's like uh it would be like uh I

don't know I don't even know what it would be like walking on glass with bare feet it would be like okay go over there the fish are over there but you got to

walk across this glass H I might just leave those fish alone then uh lots of fishing lots of fish

caught lots of fish food preparation typ it was great we did we did mostly Pike up there the smalles are huge but we eat

a lot of the pike ni um hasn't been walleye up there in a long time except for last year uh we caught a bunch last

year and I was hoping we'd find more this year but the weather was kind of weird like 40 km winds the entire time

every freaking day it's nuts like that we talked about on a podcast that was like that down here too by way you didn't miss it I mean it wasn't just up

you yeah it was bad all last we it was brutal nonstop so like the walleye was tough the bass were they were everywhere

so that was good and then we ate Pike almost every day nice yeah did you eat any smalles cuz you normally like the no

I nor no we didn't actually oh good I I normally only only keep them if they're going to die right and everyone was

setting the hook properly so good no dead fish excellent a good time was had by all by sounds of it our vacations are

now behind us we are better people for them and we are eagerly anticipating our

course that being there with an open fire there's something special about that it would make any fish taste good

reservoirs slow warm Souther so he's this person he or she has tried them
