0:43
program Outdoor Journal Radio the podcast uh Peter Bowman Angela Viola hi hi we got a bunch of people here behind
0:49
the scenes and stuff we don't even crew like it's unbelievable the amount of people that we have to run this show
0:55
this little tiny little show right y yeah and and did you notice I put this
1:01
on just for Get the pick one back on we should do a pickroll one we should have one that says pick roll on it for the
1:06
old school boys you know what i'll be That's not bad that's not a bad idea not bad i bet you sell them things i think
1:13
you're on to something mark that down mark that down buddy pickrol picks yes
1:19
sir all right you like the pick rolls and uh if you want one of these beauties that I got on all you need to do is go
1:26
to shop.fishingcanada.com there it is right there for those of you that aren't
1:31
watching and but listening Angel has one of our nice walleye hoodies on the most popular uh hoodie that we have correct
1:38
we have we can't exclude our listeners only right true true i apologize for that profusely see how I see how you've
1:44
advanced in life it was all about the listeners before and then we moved to this and now it's kind of you've shifted
1:49
to the viewers now so you gota got to remember your original peeps right wow i
1:56
want to see my peeps wearing all them beautiful hoodies that I'm looking at up there right now get on that YouTube and
2:03
look at them hoodies would you anyways uh all kinds of interesting
2:08
stuff there the new stuff is coming in spring is a has sprung and all the new
2:14
summer wear is coming in well it's here hard ass spring isn't it this year it's all in our minds right well it's all
2:20
about the You see you walk out there today in a t-shirt and I'll show you if it's in your mind or not yeah no kidding i said Dandy and what a wonderful guest
2:27
speaking of spring and sunshine and bright lights and just that whole thing
2:32
our special guest Chris Kinger hell yeah kinger is going to join us here shortly
2:39
uh for those of you who may not be familiar with him uh uh an illustrious hockey career uh spent some time with
2:45
Detroit New York Rangers Winnipeg Phoenix Chicago and then of course our
2:51
beloved Leafs as well come on now i think that's because they wanted to get rid of him or they wanted to obtain him
2:57
i've often wondered I've often wondered how does a player that travels a lot you the journeyman how do they view it is it
3:04
because everybody want Because if they didn't want him he wouldn't be going that's right and they wouldn't have taken him right i think in Kinger's case
3:11
I think they wanted him bad everybody was like arm wrestling for him you know and who wouldn't with a look at the the
3:17
the stats 151 points baby 2,000 penalty minutes over 2,000 penalty minutes
3:22
that's what I'm talking right there usually it's reverse right usually it's inverted but Kanger was a bit of an
3:29
inversion wasn't he uh he now winner of the King Clansancy Memorial Trophy as well um he um that's that's something
3:38
that's given to a player that best exemplifies leadership and if there's one thing that Ker does that's nice uh
3:44
he is a leader who would get that in this uh in this year right now current employees who would get that award the
3:50
King Clansancy and you're included in that you could be like we'd have somebody voting that well I don't it's
3:57
fair to you rest of you people but he's also uh now he is senior vice
4:03
president of hockey operations that's not even laughing he's not even listening nobody's nobody's listening dean was listening i know Dean He
4:10
listens he is senior vice president of hockey operations for NHL's central office in Tyrana he runs the war room
4:19
yeah the war room yeah but really all that's nothing he's an avid angler good buddy of ours so are we getting to see
4:25
the war room today is he going to come from the war room or is it I've heard the war room it It might be in play
4:30
today oh nice that'd be cool just to see it eh that would be great that would be awesome but first let's get to listener
4:37
feedback mr bowman from Baron von Schlag jesus come on now that is the best
4:44
YouTube or Instagram name I've heard yet whatever all von Schlag all one baron
4:50
von Schlag via Instagram awesome oh my god in response to our Frederick shoot
4:56
okay bvs here we go uh uh it says "A lot of
5:02
locals don't even realize it's in response to Frederick and uh New Brunswick." Shoot um realize that what
5:08
kind of fishery we have here in New Brunswick you can easily go slam bass all day long or you can get a a great
5:14
try and do five or six different species all within an hour's drive from the Frederickton area and that is so true
5:20
that is exactly what that show showed right come on that's right that's right
5:25
we had we had largemouth bass on the upper what's that called what is that called head pond the head pond macquack
5:33
no yeah macquack head pond or whatever there's a lot there's a there's a bunch of people calling Yeah people call it
5:38
all different things you get a controversial when you call it one thing you say "No but anyways it's got a large
5:44
mouth and small mouth in it." So we did the large mouth there we went down south of Frederickton just you know a boat
5:50
like a nice little quick boat ride down the small mouth right in front of Frederickton Nikki got into the sturgeon
5:56
the shortnse or was it a shovel nose short nose I'm sure which we like sturgeon is a sturgeon right doesn't
6:03
matter and then uh and then uh and then and then Adena went down quite a ways on
6:08
a night shoot for stripers and it wasn't quite a ways in the sense of less than an hour for sure and then an did the
6:14
musky um up in Woodstock which is half an hour maybe drive and it's and all
6:19
world class like it really is a crazy is a tremendous history it's good you're right there but what he's saying von
6:25
Schlaggin there whatever it is he's saying that the locals just have no idea I
6:31
know hopefully our Ontario uh shoot put the from guys from Ontario put them onto
6:36
their own fishery cuz it's amazing you know what I mean I just realized they got no pickles
6:42
no they do they do have real pickles picks That's right they do they have the
6:47
real deal you can add that in there's six species there you can get all within a short distance did we get any of that
6:54
shoot any picker roller uh no up on the top end the beginning in the top end
6:59
when ants had to leave there on the uh ensuing episodes of the tournament that
7:04
we had somebody was catching there was picker in there for sure they're there and that's right up there in area yep
7:10
anything you could possibly want fishery wise is all some big ones too like I
7:17
mean musky that one you got was ridiculous as a gorgeous and then and then there's giant stripers there
7:23
muskies and or stripers the same day if you want same spot it's crazy it's a it's a cool fishery
7:30
uh so there you go Baron von Schlag via Instagram you are correct sir absolutely
7:36
100% correct uh conservation corner for Mr bowman the grass carp Angelo the
7:42
grass carp one of four species of them dirty rotten Asian carp species that we don't like too much and this guy is the
7:48
one that eats all the weeds that kill all our fish that we need well you're not doing it yet because they're not
7:53
here yet no he's doing it it's just maybe not here they are doing it no matter where they are right that's just what they do they're very dangerous uh
8:01
and not positive invasive species that we So that's what they do so what do we
8:06
do we get rid of them we get rid of We get rid of them and if they we get them in here thick enough you and I are going
8:12
to go on a ramp i'm going to show you some techniques i'm going to show you some [ __ ] you ain't never seen before buddy okay i'm good at that stuff yeah
8:19
no really we have to you have to obviously be able to as in anything as in duck hunting you have to identify the
8:25
the species of bird before you shoot it yep right you have to know what you're doing here right so yeah exactly so it's
8:31
the same thing with the with these Asia with any invas are you proposing we go out shooting them well why wouldn't we
8:38
bow and arrow if we could do some bow and arrow that'd be fun an Asian car and
8:43
you'd never get any complaints you never Well you would get some complaints by certain people of course you would but uh for that would be complaining mostly
8:50
the complainers the complainers the complainers those those uh non-complacent complainers any
8:55
particular type yes the anti-bo hunters ah they might not like bowman using bows
9:02
i got Come on now right and that would be So you must have been a bow hunter like centuries ago in a in a previous
9:09
life absolutely buddy yeah bow hunter from Peter bowman peter B bowman peter B that's a bow hunter from Peter B bow
9:16
hunter from Peter pretty good hey an I like that i like that well thankfully uh
9:21
the only took you 35 40 years to figure that one out on me
9:26
uh thankfully the uh the uh grass carp is not caught hold yet here in this part
9:33
of the world i hope but they're coming so what we need to do is make sure that we arm ourselves with all of the
9:39
information uh especially identification yep that's the big one and then also uh where to
9:46
report if you do see one those are all important factors you can download on your phone from the asiancarp.ca CA
9:52
website and uh be on the lookout man that's uh that's all I could tell you
9:57
yes well said thank you uh in the news brought to you by uh J&B your outdoor
10:05
supertore come on now j&b Cycle Marine largest Ontario Princecraft Mercury
10:11
dealer wow safe to say that's probably going to be pretty close to
10:17
Canadian very close they're up there they rank in the probably the top two or three outboard Motors uh packages VA
10:26
just got his help actually actually he did it in reverse normally Nick starts
10:31
here and then he leaves during the show boba didn't start but now you walked in with his He wants to show Nick what a
10:38
professional looks like exactly you know what I mean this is how you do it Nick okay don't walk out on the boys walk in
10:43
you look like a hero walk out you look like a zero nikki you got it you got it buddy
10:49
okay oh here he go he's reeling in a big one um yes in the news Canadian angller nets
10:57
100 dino got that a boy that's good
11:03
what was that it's kind of a shitty new sound it was Look at Look at Bob is
11:08
checking Dean's work say "What the hell?" No he's checking Dean's work making sure he pushed record on the cameras and stuff
11:16
awful nice of you to show up today Boon we really appreciate that this is his second shift he was here already today
11:22
so he's uh he's double double check where was I uh yeah in the news Canadian
11:27
angller nets $100,000 for a 4.4 lb walleye that's not
11:33
a very big fish i mean speaking of which right there not a very big fish but they
11:38
should be wearing that guy should be wearing one of these he can afford it now especially with 100 grand he could buy himself the whole family he could
11:45
buy the whole whole family one of those give us a call buddy whatever whatever yeah we'll give you a deal on that just
11:51
because you're a winner what's the story i I screwed that up no it's it's a weird
11:56
it's a It's an annual ice fishing derby it's a It's kind of a weird one and not a weird one it's a pre-drilled hole
12:03
derby so check out behind you here for those who are there's a preill a pre-drilled hole derby what it looks
12:10
like so so the organizers go out the night before the morning of whatever
12:15
before the tournament the derby starts and they drill a hole every one of those anglers is over an ice hole holy smokes
12:24
ice hole i said ice hole yes she did thank you i love the road going down there too
12:30
that That's your job can you imagine catching that one 4.4 4.3 lb that one
12:37
walleye where it went did it have to go to the center of the earth there or did it stand in an outer rim which you would
12:44
think he might be caught on this outside edge or something like that so was this the big fish is that that was the biggest fish of the entire event or not
12:52
like that's that's a couple of uh episodes we've done now where we're reporting about about uh tournaments or
12:59
derbies with where where where the shelves were pretty bleak yeah well the
13:04
one was nothing no fish at all now with all of this mayhem can you imagine what
13:10
that looks like if you're a scuba diver can you imagine what that would all those lines no kidding well you get hung
13:16
up pretty quick and all of that produced a 4.4 lb walleye that's not that good to
13:24
be proud of montreal Lake in Saskatchewan by the way is where it was not to say anything against the fishery because it's a good fishery there it's
13:30
probably could be a bad day could be the time of day you know what I mean who knows what is going on but uh they lined up at 6:00 a.m they pre- to the pre
13:37
pre-drilled holes it started at 11:00 a.m and it's one of those biggest fish wins so um Gregorio Roguel Jr roel Roel
13:48
Raul that's not the way is it i don't know gregorio
13:53
Rul Jun from Priestville Saskatchewan one with a 4.4 as said before uh so he
14:01
had he was traveling with four friends and they agreed to split any winnings so they uh four four and a half hour drive
14:07
to get there and these boys are driving home with a chunk of cash holy mackerel look at second place was 25 grand
14:12
exactly third place was 10 grand that's a damn good derby buddy to go out there and sit in that hole for probably 4
14:18
hours or whatever it was well worth it i mean the the guy Blake Charles second
14:23
place 25 grand actually actually he won as much as those boys did because they all split it so he he might have did
14:29
better if he's had four friends so there's five of them yeah he did better i noticed something here he must have
14:34
started on the outside when they were drilling the drilling guys right cuz notice how nice and straight they are
14:40
and all very uniform and then as they got in further look look what happened here look at this mess he's about He's
14:46
about eight beers in there and that I never even thought of that anyways that's good yeah yeah very interesting
14:52
layout they do that on on Lake Simco too they did that on Lake Simco for a while of pre-drill holes and stuff like that
14:57
and when you see a view you know when you look at it from the ice level you don't think anything of it but when you see an aerial view like this it shows
15:03
you that's insane that'd be fun it would be good you know you're definitely watching everybody that wins you're
15:09
catching them all so or you're seeing them all catch so now was this like a charity thing fundraiser yes it was a
15:15
fundraiser so those are always good they're very good what the heck i mean obviously they're getting uh they're
15:21
they're conjuring up some good money to give prizes like that away so all righty
15:26
uh fan question of the week brought to you by our good friends at fishfindermounts.com
15:32
come on now come on now fishfindermounts.com in case I'm just setting up our portable unit as we right
15:40
now we're getting it all organized and I'm doing portable charging that ain't much that ain't much for a portable
15:45
portable but we need Dean to carry it you need two people to carry it it ain't much yeah we we go a little excessive in
15:50
our uh this week's question uh submitted by Declan OS Sullivan from Nova Scotia
15:58
email good Irish buddy there eh declan O Sullivan from Nova Scotia via email yes
16:05
so uh I guess he's in running for some buckaroos here ain't because he emailed us oh so
16:12
this right that's correct right wow that's like a couple of weeks in a row
16:17
that we're not giving away the buckaroo like are you getting stingy or something i bet you Manique is happy about this
16:22
she's uh probably she's on the scene wow something I don't even know that make happy or not that won't make her happy
16:28
is it what makes her happy nowadays anymore is there is there a threshold that you have to sort of surpass anymore
16:34
attention uh all flights loading for Las Vegas uh gate number 14 please be that
16:42
would make her happy that makes her happy nothing else no no no um that's awesome
16:50
so Declan says "Do you notice a difference between fishing for from a
16:55
big fully rigged boat like FNC1?" That's the second week in a row that somebody's talked about FNC1 i like that wow they
17:02
remember even though she's been in retirement now for what two seasons oh you brought it out on the Nova Scotia
17:09
shoot but not not filming it well we did film it probably that's true little bit uh boat like FNG1 and something uh
17:16
smaller like a a tin or a canoe i know the big uh setups have their perks but
17:22
there's something I've always loved about doing it the old school way you know he's definitely got a point
17:30
declan's got a point because yeah it's great our our uh you know running our Expedition Prince crafts the brand new
17:36
ones we're spoiled in that sense you know big double console with the flip up seats and the whole nine yards and all
17:42
that it's great but they get in that little tiner you know on on a you don't like it obviously you don't like it
17:49
you're giving me that look no no i Okay it's not a fair question because No it's not but and you're trying to sort of
17:55
you're trying to hide the fact that deep down inside you're saying "Are you kidding?" So if I give you a choice I
18:02
think any body of water pond a creek it doesn't matter correct if I give you a
18:08
choice to go on the great here's your little 14 foot t all right right there
18:14
or there's FNC1 right there needs one take one go enjoy yourself take one out
18:20
you're going to take the little t up that creek i would that FNC1 you're going to be up the creek for be stuck
18:27
you don't like it fishing out of a nice 14t 16 let me tell you let me tell you a nice boat let me tell you let me tell
18:34
you what a 14 ft t means to me and why I do enjoy those moments it means that I'm
18:41
in some remote part of the world of course where I cannot get my 20 plus
18:47
foot this is what I'm talking about boat in so what I'm enjoying is not necessarily fishing out of the 14t t i'm
18:55
enjoying the experience of being in an area where I don't have access for my
19:03
bigger equipment so I'm enjoying that moment you realize there's an outhouse up on the shoreline over there right
19:09
well and that's the other thing that you want to talk about you always want to get down that you want to go down that road I'll go down that road with you
19:15
okay i I enjoy sitting on like one of those northern lakes it's it's uh I think what
19:22
we're going to do is I want you to enjoy yourself all right i want you to enjoy yourself as much as you possibly you
19:28
should leave that prince craft back on every shoot oh no the shoots I'm on I
19:33
will be taking it oh I got a feeling that's the way it's going to be anyway however because I want to bring you joy
19:39
and and to your to your life I am going to make sure that every shoot you are on
19:44
you'll be fishing your your butt will be in a nice little 14 that hasn't changed any other year this is exactly what we
19:51
do so this is what we do i'm going to make sure of it the difference is I'm going to make sure of it that
19:56
fishfindermounts.com portable setup there in that boat with a beautiful four-stroke Merc on the back i'm telling
20:01
you what you can catch some fish doing that you're going to be four stroking in that little tin yeah you're stroking
20:06
that big one bobby Dazzler stroking on the lake obviously um Declan you have uh you have
20:15
an opinion uh two opinions here but my opinion is that uh it's much better to
20:21
be fishing out of a fishing boat if you can make that happen if you can't then
20:29
you make do with what you can but you can't you can't really say that if you have the option you'd rather do that
20:36
nobody's going to do that right and I love being in a canoe fishing out of canoes i did that for years literal pain
20:42
in the ass it is it is but but what is special about that is the reason that
20:47
you're fishing out of a canoe is because that's all you can Absolutely bring about everything around you for sure
20:53
it's not the boat because the boat is a pain in the butt it's about everything else around you which is what we got to
20:59
do this year in that little smile we were talking about there the sportsman show uhhuh you know what I'm talking about time to move on i think this
21:06
show's dragging because you know why because I I can't wait for for Kinger to come on here
21:11
kinger oh that's not very nice uh main segment of the show brought to you by sale s A I L the uh what do they call
21:20
themselves look at you spelling it out and everything they call it Well because people don't they say sale s a L E
21:26
thinking right what on sale s A I L baby it's home for all things
21:33
fishing uh camping hiking clothing footwear boats tin boats there you go how about a
21:40
canoe or a inflatable or kayak kayak lots of kayak stuff uhhuh they got it all do they have a little name Dean to
21:46
say all the so and so the other the outdoor store is what they're going with
21:51
now that's what I thought yeah yeah um the outdoor specialist was us right that
21:57
was Barkclays oh yeah the outdoor specialist i was going to say the outdoor specialist pipe there Mr barklay
22:04
yeah wonder i always wonder what he had in that pipe oh you know what he had in that you figure oh yeah yeah he looked a
22:09
little bit dozy oh yeah he was uh hitting the crack pipe pretty good there uh so head on over if you have a store
22:15
near you it's it's a great opportunity to just go in there and immerse yourself in all this wonderful outdoor stuff uh
22:21
in lie of being in the outdoors yourself go in there and make yourself feel like you're in the outdoors but chances are
22:27
real good if you go you're going to buy something i always do i go in with good intentions not to buy can't be done you
22:33
can't come out of there without a little bit of a purchase of some type uh but if not you could always go to the website
22:38
if you don't have one near you go to uh sale.ca that's sale.ca and I understand that there all
22:45
are all kinds of goodies on there right now always there's always sales on a sale always
22:55
sliamundo ca correct mundo kinger welcome to the show brother look at you
23:02
how you One second one second oh oh there we go got to practice my goal call
23:08
tonight uh no no for Toronto goal interference don't start okay i wasn't even going to
23:15
go there so don't start there is no way that you're not going to go there you have to i was not going to go there you
23:20
had the opportunity with him in the war room i was not going to go there because he he did uh the favorable did us a
23:28
solid and then is the Lord giveth and then the Lord taketh away okay immediately after so it's it at best you
23:36
know it it's it's a neutral so I'm not going to pick on him okay cuz I I want him in good spirits tonight while he's
23:42
watching the game i'm always in good spirits when I see you two guys well thank you hey do you want to see where I
23:48
am yeah we do show us around this is the war room people this is uh what we do
23:53
here most nights so there's our screens getting ready to be set up oh that's cool there is one you're looking at
23:59
toronto nice florida big game big game of Detroit huge game wow jersey big game
24:07
for them pittsburgh and then we have our work stations back here how many how many people are going
24:13
to be coming into that room tonight Chris uh well let's have a look here fellas we've got uh 2 4 6 8 10 13 14 18
24:25
people will be working here tonight 18 people are going to be working here and it it it's so exciting we've had three
24:31
big ones yeah yeah do tell on one of them
24:38
um it's so exciting we've had the uh privilege of of uh going in there during
24:44
a game and checking it out man I'll tell you it's got to be hustle and bustle it's truly the war room i mean it's very
24:50
appropriately named the war room because Oh it's just so much pressure and tension like keep in mind every game
24:57
that's going on is on playing in that room right and you've got a team of guys watching every one of those games and it
25:03
they watch everything it they like it's you got to see it it's it's an incredible experience you guys do a
25:08
great job that's why I drink in the afternoon yeah no kidding no kidding i like that lighting bubbly water bubbly
25:15
water a boy now before we get into the fishing stuff because I want to talk to you about a couple of things fishing
25:21
wise but couple things but more importantly you're hockey and here we go
25:28
you guys have got correct me if I'm wrong you guys have got even more responsibilities this year uh over last
25:34
year there's a few other things that I mean aside from goalie uh goal related
25:39
calls um you're also doing are you doing the off you're doing the offsides oh
25:45
yeah yeah so we review all goals like these loggers that are at the stations
25:50
behind me yeah they uh they're assigned a game and their job is to watch that game and and let us up front here at
25:58
where on the stage we call it uh uh whether we have to deal with something
26:03
in that specific game or not so uh we're looking at kick pucks high stick pucks
26:08
pucks batted in uh pucks over the goal line or not uh so that's always been
26:15
something that we've done and the goalie interference and the offside challenges you mentioned has come in i think we're six years into that now then they
26:22
brought in the missame stoppages in the offensive zone that could be played with a high stick to a teammate hits the
26:27
glass or hits the netting drops in the gu score anything where the whistle
26:33
should have went teams can challenge that but now what you're talking about is with our retired official in the room
26:39
the referees can review all fiveminute major penalties they call or fourminute double minor high sticking penalty to
26:45
make sure they got it right cuz sometimes like four minutes is a tough penalty it's you know you can score two
26:50
goals on it uh if they get it wrong and there's no way to fix it it's a really
26:56
hard one to eat so they can review all those we'll get that we'll get on the headset with the guys show them replays
27:02
and then they'll confirm their call they can also look at a fiveminute major and if they call a major in real time they
27:08
look at it and say "Oh you know what that wasn't as bad as I thought i could call a two-minute penalty." or they can
27:14
actually take the penalty right off the board if they feel it's not worthy so has that happened has that happened this
27:19
year where Oh yeah it's happened it's happened yeah you know you see a guy go into the board's funny you turn around
27:24
and and the guy's right over him and they're like "Oh man did he cross check him in but he actually you know one time
27:29
a guy stepped on the puck and fell in." And so we look at it and instead of the guy sitting in the box for 5 minutes
27:35
he's uh he's free you know so we it's it's hard ones to defend when they get
27:42
them wrong so we're not officiating from this room so to speak but we're fixing problems that uh we have the ability to
27:48
do by looking again at replay referees see it once they call it put their arm in the air they call it now they get a
27:55
chance to look at it and fix how many guys are in your position Kanger you said what do you call that where you're where you're sitting you said there's So
28:01
this is Let me show you here so this is kind of the front desk where we watch all the games from and uh there's 16 uh
28:08
Smitty how big are these TVs those are 86 86 in TVs and then you're
28:13
in the old room we had we had eight of them now we have 16 wow so uh there's
28:19
three of us up here in most nights coley Campbell's a boss as you know and you've met him he lives in Tilsonburg and he's
28:25
got a miniature setup like this and his zoom came up above us here right there
28:32
there and he he watches all of us in here and we talk to him throughout the night because he's the one getting the shitty calls from the owners the GMs and
28:40
such and uh so he has to be involved in all of this so it's uh Wow you know it's
28:45
it's no what happens when you got like you got multiple calls is there ever a
28:50
time when all you guys on the front desk there are busy on a different game you know what it's it's a great question and
28:56
and it's uh something we call it the less than perfect storm we've had a couple where we've had two a goal review
29:03
a goalie interference challenge and a and a a referee challenge that's why we staff it with the number of people that
29:09
we do we just cannot not be ready you know so right so now as an avid fan of
29:17
your operation and hockey in general I have to tell you that most of the most of the things that you guys do I can
29:24
understand because it's black and white right the puck either went over the line or it didn't go over the line the stick
29:30
was either above your shoulders or it wasn't although the other night was questionable but you know it's pretty
29:36
easy there is a black and white but the goalie interference I'm having a difficult time with Kinger i'm really
29:42
struggling with this one because it's I think it's very subjective i mean how how do you know
29:50
from sitting there that the goalie was impeded how do you know like you you
29:56
don't right well because I've done every single one of them since the beginning of time you know i mean your but your
30:03
point's right and uh I hope you're not sounding like a media person no no toronto fan but no God no they're
30:11
they're snowflakes seriously they're snowflakes none of them are the same and coaches will say and GMs will say and
30:18
goalie coaches God goalie coaches will say "Well that is the exact same play that happened to us the other night and
30:24
you ruled different." Well no first of all you got to remember the referee makes a call on the ice that's what we
30:29
work off of so he makes a call good goal or no goal the team can then challenge his call so he calls a goal the team
30:37
looks at it they think their goalie was impeded they challenge it we look at it we're looking at a lot of different
30:42
things was he able to do his job in the crease was the player in the blue paint not allow him to do his job was he
30:48
shoved in there by the defending player did he go there on his own accord and and uh get deep enough that the guy
30:54
couldn't come out uh you can still be in the crease and have goals scored we're not in the foot in the crease rule
31:00
anymore could the goalie reset after he got bumped so all these things come into uh the equation and then by giving the
31:07
referee a chance to look at it again both referees uh myself or one of the guys that are in here and the retired
31:13
official the four of us will come up with the answer and if there's not enough evidence to get those two
31:18
referees that made the call in real time to change their mind we're going to stay with their call uh if they get a chance
31:24
to look at and go "Ah you know what i didn't see his skate clip that goalie skate there in the blue from where I was
31:30
standing they'll change their call." So uh there was a time at the start of this where they thought the referees might
31:35
not like this setup but uh we've learned to work together and we educate everybody every call that's made every
31:42
week goes out to the entire staff of 90 both referees and linesmen and they they
31:47
study them because some guys might have three a year some guys might have 13 but we do them all exactly exactly this is
31:55
consistent it's going to get how much pressure is there on you guys when that
32:00
call I know from a viewer standpoint but I'm just wondering being in that room
32:06
how much pressure is on you guys when that you know that that minute turns into two minutes and 3 minutes like are
32:13
you guys do you are you cognizant of the time or is this are you so full of adrenaline that at that moment you don't
32:19
even know that it's been five minutes well a lot of the times you know when it's starting to lag a bit and but
32:26
you've got to understand you're in TV and you get it like you're only uh well
32:31
let's just say we're at the mercy of what our broadcast gives us as far as replays right because we're we're relying on replays to get better looks
32:38
at it they've got lots of cameras national games have way more cameras than uh a regional game so a game in
32:45
Toronto on Sportsnet may have twice the amount of cameras that a game in Columbus would have on a Tuesday night
32:50
so uh we rely on them and we understand the importance of it uh we can't wait
32:56
forever we've got fans sitting at home we got fans in the building we got fans uh you know watching on TV that you just
33:04
can't hold them hostage for five and six minutes our average on our challenges are just over 2 minutes 2 minutes and 15
33:10
seconds the old offside challenge used take forever because you had to tell if this much of a little blade was touching
33:16
that boot line so with putting the foot in the air which we changed just for reviews it's really sped them up but uh
33:23
to back to your original question how much pressure sometimes you leave this room and you feel sufficient as low as
33:29
whale [ __ ] sometimes because you know that you were you were part of it you know and but the beauty of this room is
33:36
you have there's no there's no dog in the fight you're just doing your job like you did the night before and you're
33:42
going to do tomorrow night and you take the uh you know the video that's in
33:47
front of you and the expertise and the consistency that you've done in doing this for six years and you apply it to
33:53
every call and and uh you're going to have one team that agrees with you and have one team that doesn't and you you
33:59
have to have thick skin boys or you can't do this job does any of it go home with you do you ever take that one call that you just and you take it with you
34:06
for a few days and that's why I live 15 minutes from here walking which usually takes me about a half an hour to drive
34:12
the same distance but I always walk home after work uh unless it's really cold
34:17
out and I'll beg of one of the guys for a ride but it kind of settles me down and gives me a chance to think about but
34:23
but you know what uh we're just doing our job i mean we uh we we we there is a
34:30
lot of pressure on it again we're not officiating from here we're just doing what we're asked to do and uh you know it's more than goals and and and and
34:37
goalie challenges and the whole thing it's keepers of the game and eyes in the game and and and monitoring officiating
34:43
to make it better monitoring injuries trends within the game so we can take them to the general managers and and a
34:49
lot of the rule changes come from what these guys see in this room and what we see on a nightly basis so uh it's it's
34:55
uh it's a heck of a good way to stay in the game that you love after playing a long time and uh you know I played 15
35:01
years and now this is my 24th year in in the office so I was I was going to say what a great way to extend your career
35:10
in the game that you love i mean you these guys can't play till they're 65 years old and retired you know what I
35:15
mean i better now than when I get paid his wife made him quit he was just a
35:21
[ __ ] his wife made him actually when I retired she got me another job because I
35:27
was bugging the [ __ ] out of her i was crawling around the house like a lost puppy i didn't know what to do it's so
35:32
funny when you play though you have your routine we get up in the morning you maybe drop the kids off at school you go
35:38
see the guys in the room and you you have fun you practice hard you always go for lunch then you go home kids come
35:44
home and you have dinner and then sometimes you go on the road and and you do it all over again but when when you
35:50
retire all that's gone and some guys can handle it some guys can't that's tough why do you think I'm Why do you think
35:56
I'm still here because I I I say to myself what am I going to do i like what
36:02
I met your wife she doesn't want you at home that's true too that's a good point and the problem is Kinger she's still
36:08
here too she's with them everywhere they go they go together that's okay that's okay at least you like Vegas that's uh
36:14
There's no I think this has got to be one of the most exciting NHL and I've
36:20
been watching this game before you even started playing as you know um but this
36:26
season has got to be the most exciting season the NHL has ever had there's so many things so many pieces uh in in this
36:34
one you had the the four on four series which was
36:39
unbelievable well it's fantastic it was awesome it was better than we thought it was oh that's a home run double home run
36:47
then you've got Ovetka and at the beginning of the year we're saying there's no way there's no way it's Well you know what maybe next year he'll and
36:54
all of a sudden [ __ ] starts happening there and now you did that
36:59
and well we got this big thing called a TV deal just done last week that's right too that little little deal happened and
37:06
and actually I'm going to knock on wood or whatever they make these countertops out of now but we've had a really uh
37:13
good year it just keeps getting better i just pulled up on my computer here the standings and uh Oh my god i mean you
37:19
got Toronto Tampa and Florida all battling for home ice but what does it
37:25
mean because Toronto Tampa or Florida are going to play probably Ottawa who's
37:33
just been lights out a little bit and they haven't been in the playoffs forever and those four teams are going to be
37:40
gone then you look at the other side you got Winnipeg who's had an incredible season Dallas Colorado like who do you
37:46
want to play who don't you want to play like you don't want to play any of that murderers row of of of great hockey
37:53
teams like there is nine you're right i mean it it's been it's been an incredible season uh I'm looking at this
37:59
game tonight we got 2 4 6 8 10 and of the 10 eight of them mean something like
38:04
Carolina's playing Buffalo carolina's work looking for home ice montreal Detroit huge for both those teams
38:11
montreal wants to get that last spot toronto Florida we know what that means you know New Jersey still looking ottawa
38:17
Columbus huge for Ottawa oh uh then we got Chicago Pittsburgh
38:22
the Islanders Nashville Islanders think they're still in it vancouver Dallas a little bit of hope for Vancouver but
38:28
probably not seattle Utah another one we'll let somebody else watch and then Vegas Colorado both those teams are
38:34
looking to move up so every night it's like this i cannot remember a season that has gone this far uh into the final
38:42
couple of weeks where where everything is meaningful right everything is is meaning every game is a must mustwatch
38:49
you know well you guys all have your favorite teams and we know who yours is but you can turn on any TV any channel
38:56
and watch any of these games and be intrigued because of what they're playing for and there's a lot of teams
39:01
been playing playoff hockey for the last month already montreal Ottawa half to win have to win and And uh I'm looking
39:07
at the East side again like Detroit's only five out rangers same thing
39:12
islanders six Columbus seven i mean they they've got five six games left but you
39:19
win them you get a chance but you got to worry about the teams in front of you we have we could have Ottawa Montreal
39:26
Toronto in the East and then Winnipeg for sure and Edmonton for sure and maybe
39:33
Calgary we could have six to seven in there crazy wow yeah yeah it's great
39:38
speaking speaking of Canada uh I guess we we we cannot just totally avoid this
39:45
discussion um are are things uh how are how are
39:50
things looking with Canada US relationships uh you know I'm hearing
39:56
booing of the anthems and all this stuff how are we dealing with this stuff what's what's what's the general mood
40:01
there you brought up the Four Nations earlier and I was lucky enough to be there and and partially running it with
40:07
with all of our NHL people and and Montreal was a fabulous place to host yeah but like the best of times
40:15
Quebecers they don't usually take sides in politics right they just they just love
40:20
their best time is when the first ter I tried to stick handle around that you
40:27
seen handle so I beat the piss out of that one uh it was incredible like they
40:34
looked so forward to that American Canada game and the people were going crazy and then those street fights to
40:39
start it out like I never even I never thought that was going to happen and uh you know then they lose that game
40:45
they go to Boston and and then they have to win uh they both have to win big games to get there and then you know we
40:52
we all saw what happened in the final game but there's a little bit of animosity in the world right now and
40:58
there's a lot of animosity in North America and and then you know we we're feeling the brunt of of of something
41:05
that one guy down there thinks is going to be good for his country and I don't think it's affecting our games so to
41:12
speak it's affecting the Canadian teams that pay can you know American dollars to their players that that's reality in
41:19
it for sure and uh uh travelwise it hasn't been an issue yet but we've been
41:25
told in our office if we're traveling to the States give yourself more time because they're a little harder at the border right now and I don't know
41:32
whether that's uh part of this or not but uh we just you know what we just
41:37
hope that it all kind of stays the same and we can get through this playoff because it's going to be good but uh you
41:43
know I think I think we're we're as unsure as everybody else is of what's going to happen it's a lot a lot to do with the fans too though right like it
41:49
it creates a real a real huge event instead of a big event it just makes it
41:54
that much bigger it's like the Canada Russia way back in the day stuff like that it's just it's like you I love that
42:01
that that emotion that you can cut with a knife at games and stuff i think it's great you mentioned something there a
42:07
moment ago and I' I've been meaning to to ask you this question how is there any mechanism in
42:14
place to help the Canadian teams when it comes to the dollar or is everything
42:20
just as it is it's American dollars that we're dealing in and it's tough to be a
42:25
Canadian uh entrepreneur with Canadian money that you have to hire players and and pay the staff right how does that
42:32
work because it would be totally unbalanced right it's called revenue sharing and it's uh it's it's been in
42:38
place for a while uh unfortunately the teams make a lot of money subsidize the teams that don't and
42:45
uh it's been an agreed upon thing that they put in place amongst the owners and uh you know some of these teams that
42:51
struggle not just north of the border but in in the United States as well uh they will be subsidized uh depending on
42:59
the amount of monies that they uh they generate so uh I'm not completely sure how that all works and the formula that
43:05
they use to follow but uh teams are made whole by what they consider what they
43:10
call uh revenue sharing okay so when they when they do a $10 million contract
43:16
times eight or seven or whatever that is that's in US currency if it's a Canadian
43:21
team though that's 10 million it's it's it's really in in their in their world it's 14
43:29
million right so look look at specific and and it's it's absolutely right uh
43:35
but you look at even some states that have no state tax right florida playing Nashville in Florida and compared to
43:43
playing in New York and California you're making $10 million in Nashville you're making 75 in California after
43:50
taxes right so wow that's why that's why Florida tends to get some good players
43:56
vegas gets to get some good players a lot of guys like to go to Nashville and not because they're great cities because
44:01
the the taxes involved hell yeah can't blame them that's true wow and it's it's the same in all sport yeah you know same
44:08
major league baseball same in in in football nice little deal Guerrero made the other day right yeah you just got
44:14
cool little signed up half a what's he getting half a billion no 500 million
44:19
500 million yeah that's pretty good yeah your cable's going up boys no kidding
44:24
buddy no kidding do you ever kick yourself do you ever say "Man if I if
44:30
only I was born 20 years you know later I could be enjoying all of the the
44:36
fruits that uh all this money that these guys are making when you were in the
44:41
game i mean money was not the main no focus right you guys just love the game
44:47
you love playing and that's why you did it." And I was 20 years later I wouldn't be talking to you handsome bastard there
44:54
you go true we wouldn't have made the friendships that we did and maybe you know I'd be
44:59
pushing you in a wheelchair onto your boat thank you on your yacht and not been on your yacht buddy okay well
45:06
that's a good point too that's a good point too you know what i I love the time that I played uh the 80s 90s early
45:13
2000s was a different game uh you're right too money didn't play a big factor
45:18
no guys were so much closer in the amount of monies that they that they made and and I mean I never regret when
45:26
I played or or or how I played it was just a different time and and fortunate enough to play this great game i don't
45:32
know if I could would have been able to play the style of game that they play now because they're you know you know
45:37
the role I played but they're uh yes to a good point there's different there's different rules in place now uh but you
45:44
know I talked to all my buddies and your buddies and I think they'd be lying if they didn't say they may have enjoyed
45:49
the game a little bit better in the 80s and 90s without question i mean that
45:55
doesn't take anything away from today cuz these players today are ridiculous how skilled they are almost to the to to
46:01
a fault though i mean because the skill level is so incredibly high every night like you get you're going to see six
46:07
seven games tonight and and and every one of those games there's going to be that moment where you say "Holy shit."
46:12
Yeah how the hell did they do that how did they do that whereas back in your era we didn't like if you had one or two
46:18
of those moments a year that was huge so I guess you know in terms of we'll
46:23
bring it to down to our level now it's like uh fishing in a pond that's got
46:29
nothing but 10 lb largemouth bass well you know what after a while you kind of
46:34
grow callous to that whole 10 lb bass thing but if you Yeah absolutely i want
46:40
to go King you want to go let's go buddy let's take it but you know if it only happens
46:47
once in a while there's a certain level of excitement that's what you guys did with the game back then it was uh it was
46:53
there were the emotions that were in that game when you played it were Well we'll obviously we'll never see that
46:59
again it's fantastic yeah but I think and again I I think our game's in great
47:05
shape i think these young players are are brilliant i'm just looking at Matthews getting interviewed on here for
47:11
ESPN they're on ESPN tonight and like this guy's incredible like he I'd have a
47:17
hundred pucks and never shoot the way he did like this guy's so good and but
47:22
they're uh you know you you look at your team you got him you got Marner you got Matthews uh uh
47:30
and now Martin T having the year that he's had holy cow man like holy cow yeah
47:36
there's there's a guy who caught uh you know he he just grabbed that ring at the
47:41
right time at the end of his career at the end of his contract and M he right the way he's playing right now
47:47
uh who wouldn't sign him up for another four or five years all these old guys
47:52
they're they're hoping to stay in the game and have a chance and take a cut in their pay and this guy's been sought after by teams he's got almost 40 goals
47:59
or he does have 40 but you know what that's that's the beauty of the game you got to play the games you know uh anyway
48:07
let's talk fishing how's that I need to I need to talk to you about one thing in
48:13
particular I wanted to mention to you that's in my notes you are starting to get you're starting to embrace
48:19
technology a little bit you know and we want to talk Yeah i want to talk to you
48:25
about that how uh how did you how did your fishing season go with with technology in your boat well uh actually
48:34
pretty well like we uh I I didn't Here I'm going to I got grandkids now
48:42
right so here we go i like it my my seven day window decreased to four and a
48:49
half or five so then I got to take two of those four and a half for our club
48:55
tournaments in Mskoka which are all my buddies and I told you you know most of them you know they got good jobs but you
49:03
know they've got great boats and we try to sneak out and have a little bit of fun you bet a lot of those guys are all good guys guys I grew up with guys I
49:10
love fishing with yeah and then uh Coupe who you know too uh him and I joined
49:15
that uh Rawfish Attorney on Georgian Bay right a new body of water for us and uh
49:21
we really uh relied on our electronics on a body of water we weren't really familiar with you know you ask people of
49:29
places you might need to go or want to go but on a huge body of water that like that it's it's it's not easy so we uh we
49:37
both got really dialed in i think Coup's a little better at it than I am i'm still old school a little bit with I
49:44
caught one there before there's got to be another one but uh we we did quite
49:49
well for two guys that hadn't fished a lot on Georgian Bay uh we made it to the classic weekend uh we fished on the
49:56
Saturday finished uh just just out of the cut line to make the Sunday so we we
50:01
thought it was a pretty successful turn do you both fish out of the front of the boat uh Kanger or you in the back not
50:08
always not always we will when we see them right that's what I was going to say with the electronics it's it can be
50:14
an advantage to be both at the front for sure yeah i like to I like to bomb them you know so big old bomb of top water or
50:21
something out there smallies i don't want to be taking Coup's hat with me when I'm doing that so what's the uh
50:27
what's the biggest difference that you've noted uh maybe you know last year versus previous years what's the biggest
50:33
difference you've noted um when you rely a little bit more on electronics than in
50:39
the past what's what how has it changed you it's it's the speed of fishing it
50:44
really is like uh Great point we We see
50:50
fish and you know maybe we didn't see them there before but now we find a
50:56
group of fish and they're around but they're not biting right away but then we'll see that they're reacting to
51:01
different things and then we're able to change things up a little bit and get that one bite and uh whereas before we'd
51:09
see them we'd throw them and with what we like and we're all comfortable with certain groups right we really are uh so
51:16
we we just slowed down a lot more and found that to be very successful for us
51:21
and what we do is if we would find fish and we couldn't get them to to to play
51:26
with us at that time we'd move on a little bit but we knew where we were coming back and then we would change it up a little bit so uh we we weren't as
51:34
running and gunning as we used to be and I think that uh that kind of became a strength for us where we were
51:40
comfortable enough to slow down and and maybe sneak back and and see if that same group was there and if they were
51:46
whether they were hungry this time so uh it took us a little while because we both like to run and gun but uh we just
51:53
started to to change baits a little more and and and spend a little more time in places where we actually knew there was
51:59
fish and we go to places and another we go to places where we always caught fish
52:04
and they weren't there and then we just go right right exactly that's the beauty of it right that's the beauty of it you
52:10
don't have to waste time that's right it does it does that or the opposite of you see them oh my god there are fish here
52:15
we never thought there were fish here and then you stay out at least now your your mind can go into a confidence mode and a fishing mode right versus trying
52:21
you know is there something going on wasting all that time casting and casting so yeah it makes a big difference it really does so and and and
52:28
listen I've got so much more to learn and uh and I know Coupe will say the same thing but it's you got to you got
52:35
to put your time in you do and uh I watch you guys and I I know
52:41
like you're you're both real good and uh it it takes some time but it's it's
52:46
actually really really cool way to fish when they're when you see them oh my god it's and you present it to them and they
52:53
come and you got them and he's in the live well and you're going like that was pretty i'll tell you Kanger the first
52:59
couple of years was tough the making that transition for us and I'm talking in particular now Liv scope uh even
53:06
before we were talking about forward view just just the whole concept of Liv scope we spent a couple of years
53:13
struggling cuz we knew we knew that this was the direction that
53:19
we needed to go in uh but we we we we didn't understand
53:25
it old school boys that used to casting to a lily pad right we We didn't know what we were watching we
53:31
couldn't We couldn't uh We It And then all of a sudden and it happened just
53:37
like one day it just clicks in it's like a switch i wish I could remember what what our TSN turning point was there was
53:44
It was a It just clicked in oh I think the biggest our biggest problem back
53:50
when we first started we did a lot of trying it on large mouth and that's very specific small mouth is the fish to
53:56
learn it on small mouth and walleye but smallies are a great if you're going to look to learn live scope that's a great
54:02
fish species to use it on because they're just first time that you and I
54:07
put panoptics on the boat do you remember where we went over to the carp the power plant shallow water where we
54:14
could see fish we knew that they were fish so we This is the original panoptics live that big ugly transducer
54:21
or it was PS21 we had on there yeah so it was it's still around like an ultrasound you know if you're looking at a baby through ultrasound it's kind of
54:27
what what the image was and we couldn't figure it out we couldn't figure but So we said "Okay we got to all right we got
54:34
to see what we're looking at to understand what we're seeing."
54:39
Water's so clear and bickering there exactly and you could see these big massive uh carp you know moving around
54:46
so we started working with those and that's kind of where we started that is where we started seeing Oh that's what
54:52
that is isn't that a great little fishery though oh my god what a place what a freaking place there's like
54:59
there's like seven lb smallmouth sitting in there at any given moment nothing like pitching into a into a outtake and
55:07
the guy standing on the shore with a machine gun on his arm watching the fish true enough true enough a fisherman
55:14
somebody told me that that's completely shut down no so from what I I've told I
55:19
went there a couple of years ago three four years ago and they blocked it all off with the big buoys they had it all blocked with the big yellow buoys i've
55:26
heard since then I think last year they pulled them out again they said "No we can't do that or we're not doing that." I don't know what the reasoning was but
55:31
they opened it back up so that's what I've heard i haven't seen it that way cuz they haven't gone back cuz it was you were access denied right around it
55:37
was yellowed up everywhere just like you know on a dam or something like that cornwwell yeah yeah they just not you
55:42
just can't get in with a boat so but I think it's opened since then and it's a great fishery man there's multiecies you
55:48
could get a steel head on one cast a carp on one cast a bass on one cast the next one exactly brown one of those you
55:55
get one of those great big carp up by the fast water outtake and then you takes the boat takes you right out my
56:01
god I got spooled there one time on a carp so somebody is somebody is listening to this right now
56:07
saying "Are you guys serious do you realize how dangerous that could be that's why they shut it down do you
56:14
realize you guys are dangerous though well no it's not we don't think it is and you have to be careful when you're
56:19
fishing in that type of water um the only the most dangerous part about that
56:24
is the blow hole when that thing starts going that they got this releaser that blows big bubbles of air up if your
56:30
boat's on top of that you might be in trouble then but that's a cool fishery though but that's right we learned it we
56:36
learned our first live forward viewing on on the panoptics on carp yeah and
56:41
every year guys they they just keep making these things better like you can almost tell what kind of fish it is now yeah you're getting Yeah yeah you can
56:48
you can tell the head to the tail on a lot of times you can see the the difference in that sense yeah i I mean it's And you can see positioning of fish
56:55
king i was telling an I was fishing uh bass last year and muskies were in the lake and I could see the muskies turning
57:01
up like this on the screen and then all of a sudden boop they go down and take the bait so you It's like insane seeing
57:07
that kind of stuff i know you're you've got the uh LBS 32 or 34 Live Scope Plus
57:15
or 34 34 wait till you try the 62
57:22
well I tend to like to go with somebody to see it work first before I purchase it check out where I'm getting the money
57:28
from this year we're going to Man that's a double hint right there i know yes sir this year we're going to uh we're going
57:35
to make a point of uh making that happen right wow you got to see what we're
57:41
doing with this stuff now because we're we're kind of taking it to the next level and um it's not that easy to
57:49
explain and certainly it's not that easy to visualize until you're there on the deck of the boat and you say "Oh
57:56
wow that's easy." Those ones are running off the side are pretty cool are you are you dialing into those two Pete like you
58:01
no we we did like those ones off the back like that you mean no we haven't done that but uh we we would but we're
58:08
we're keeping it kind of tame i think what we're doing now is trying to use as
58:14
much um perspective view and down view
58:21
together right because one of the problems that you've got like all the rest of us that
58:26
are using you know the one-dimensional uh forward view is that you you can tell
58:31
where that fish is in terms of depth and position in the arc
58:38
but you can't tell where it is this way right
58:44
yeah you know it's somewhere there but it could be just 2 feet over from where the somewhere there is so what we're
58:50
trying to do is is bring all that together and get a a best way to explain it is get more of a a 3D look sure at
58:59
what's ahead of us right so um basketball it's been you know what we're still learning all the time from our
59:05
from my standpoint I know Pete well enough from his as well i mean it's what's keeping us in this game because
59:12
it's so exciting fishing has become brand new to us you know brand new and
59:19
that's what that's what makes it so much fun i think you know what we where we missed the boat where Ang and I missed the boat king on it is uh is when side
59:26
imaging came in and down imaging and we didn't take advantage of that we're taking advantage of it now because of
59:32
this forward viewing stuff now back in those days we had our traditional screen on and we'd have a GPS on and you mark
59:38
way points and you look for a hump you look for a water temperature and that's about it you really used all your instinct instinct instinct when people
59:44
got got onto the side fighting stuff they got good at it and they're just saying "Oh my god they're over there and they're over there and they're way and
59:50
we're sitting there going "Wow what the hell?" You know I don't need that [ __ ] i can't even understand it you know what I mean you remember the first time we saw it side imaging no out in DC oh god yeah
1:00:00
that was a perfect example sturgeon fishing yeah and we still didn't click in cuz we thought there were sturgeon they're 6 feet long so we easy to see
1:00:06
you can't see a walleye like that but you know who you guys are you're the two old pricks in the balcony in the Muppet
1:00:11
Show grumpy old men you're right that's right bucket
1:00:19
list fish and fishing trip for you there's got to be one that you haven't done
1:00:24
i want to go south of peacock bass you know so and and after watching you guys
1:00:30
I got I got to get out I got to get out to Eastern Canada and fish those those big strip those stripers bud buddy
1:00:36
that's ridiculous that just looks like the best time it is and the people you
1:00:43
talk to and the people you kind of and I mean I'm only watching a half hour show like they just seem like the best people
1:00:49
you they're see you're seeing what they are they are the best people on earth and and I want to I want to catch a I want to catch a big tune oh boy so that
1:00:58
nothing really you know nothing else you know what do you know what I've got them 50-inch musky and then you know the sail
1:01:05
fish and all that listen I' I'd go catch a perch right now instead of working here
1:01:11
i think you know me well enough i'm not picky boys i just love to be in the boat with my friends yeah that's But those
1:01:17
are good goals those are good bucket listers right there man you I really really do want to try those stripers out these days oh buddy you will not be the
1:01:23
same person you'll you'll uh you'll go nuts for it it'll save you a few days in the gym right it will trust me it will
1:01:30
man they kick your butt big time what a fishery out there though e what's that what a fishery out there oh my god it's
1:01:37
insane they have no idea what they have it's insane they Well the amount of bass fishing out there too i'm shocked when
1:01:42
you guys did your shows out there it's It is shocking that's true they have no idea they will in time they will uh as
1:01:50
the Oh you keep doing shows out there you'll have everybody out there they won't mind the hotel rooms booked
1:01:56
up though they like it trust me they like it so I was speaking to a guy this morning as funny as you say I was I had
1:02:02
a doctor's uh thing this morning and this guy comes over and I knew I knew oh
1:02:07
god here we go right fish talk fish talk and the problem is I'm sitting underneath a TV screen because it's the
1:02:13
only seat left plus the seat next to me and so I've got the sound of the TV already like filling my head with sound
1:02:21
he comes over and says "D hey how you doing i saw you here last year." He says "We must be on the same cycle." you
1:02:28
know he says "Anyways I just a good thing or not." No kidding he says "I just wanted to come over and tell you
1:02:34
man that striper fishing you guys do down in New Brunsw" oh my god he just I got to get down there and I'm thinking
1:02:40
boy you better hurry up because you haven't you don't have a whole lot more time he was He was considerably older
1:02:46
than I was god and he's going on and on and on and I'm picking up half of his
1:02:52
and I'm picking up the other half about the the the election and Carney and Trump
1:02:58
god this can't be happening to me today but he but he wanted to That's why that's why we like to go fishing we can
1:03:04
leave all that stuff exactly yeah and that's but he wanted to tell me how much he looks forward to going down and
1:03:10
fishing those stripers you know the reality of it is though like what what Kinger this first one to a second one
1:03:15
for us as Canadians especially as Ontarians but um how easy it is to go out to get that worldass fisher you you
1:03:22
either bring your boat with you or you don't bring a boat you can get hire a guide but you put your boat behind your truck and you're there in 14 hours and
1:03:29
you're into the best stripe bass fishing in the world with a straight drive to fishery that's it's that good it's that it's that you know accessible so we're
1:03:36
so lucky with what we have available we really are i think I think things are
1:03:41
going to move more in that direction in the months and years ahead i think this
1:03:46
little kick in the ass that we just got uh politically speaking I think I think
1:03:52
it's going to make us all think more about spending our vacation dollars here and here and maybe maybe
1:04:00
fishing will take up a big part of that right well we got the such a huge natural resource with our just our
1:04:06
fisheries alone let alone the hunting and everything else you know but the fishing alone is just world class from
1:04:11
coast to coast y I think you and Coupe need to drag one of your boats down there let us know we'll follow you i'm
1:04:19
telling you a weekend you know 14 hours isn't that long if you have two drivers yeah right no it takes me sometimes that
1:04:25
long to get to Msco on a Friday night up to 400 bud yeah well that's the beauty
1:04:31
of that drive though is that it's beautiful you go opposite Toronto you go away from that way yeah beautiful
1:04:38
anyways King Ker we uh we've taken enough of your time my friend um have fun tonight good luck tonight be nice be

1:06:15
individual great sense of humor i'm sure that most of the guys that played in his era didn't think he was all that
1:06:22
wonderful cuz Ker could be a little nasty bit of a menace a little nasty out on the ice but
1:06:29
wonderful guy and the game is in good shape primarily because of guys like him who are um you know looking after it for
