released and that if you are fishing those you're better off keeping what you get and then moving on yes and versus

the fish go back to the bottom of the lake that's not all you saw you no with Liv scope you watch that you watch the

fish go down the bot but that doesn't mean they survived no they could die within an hour two hours two days two

weeks whatever because of the bar we don't know that because an and I were talking about this earlier and that there's really not a lot that we've

heard from experts in the world of Barat trauma and freshw fish at least there isn't the reason being it is such a

difficult and subjective study and think engage depends it depends on which way

just thinking that they see hey that fish went back to the bottom that's it that's good good right we all think it's

so it's just it's very gray it's a very gray area so there just isn't enough uh information available we don't have the

technology available we don't have the scientists willing to invest the time

and effort and money into the studies and so anything that we see now we kind of have to take with a graen of salt use

so I did a um the last trip the Mikey and I were out in in the boat um I kept

some nice smaller small walleye it had three in the in the box and two of them were upside down so I thought and I have

fish to Fizz those two little fish and they were they weren't big they were small ones like three Pounders when I grabbed those fish to Fizz they've just

really laid there kind of Lac aicle and did nothing as I was fizzing you could

start to feel them getting some strength back strength back and by the time it was almost done they were like wanting

they so this this air in the must how long how long did it take you minute maybe something like that I'm

well but but when you when you let them go they look like a different fish it's just totally and how did you determine

know from personal experiences and I'm talking with largemouth bass now not Smallmouth or

walleye or anything else but I'm talking specifically with largemouth bass that shallow water largemouth bass and

shallow water can be it's kind of relative to what you believe is shallow

but you know we're talking talking anywhere from from 2T to 8 ft let's call

that shallow water and anything beyond 8 ft we start maybe calling it mid mid um

depth but anything in shallow water as it pertains to largemouth bass I can tell you from personal experiences that

the release success is nothing short of amazing phenomenal being reason being is

because we've caught those fish again from the same spot absolutely they or

weeks later so or years later years have one fish that I a large mouth that in

about 10 ft of water eight8 to 10 ft I caught three times and I know it's was the same fish and that was over a span of seven years yeah they live there

that's home that's home they know and it's got markings on it so and I've released that fish two other times I got

the third time so yeah absolutely large is a great example for a Survivor right

they are like uh zombie fish they just they just go and go and go right so

perfect release uh specimen if you're doing a release study Catch and Release

study a large mouth are good to work with if you want that study to prove conclusively that they will survive and

go on and Thrive and reproduce and all that stuff however two things there the

species and the depth if you take those two off the table I think most of the

other studies and information certainly that I'm familiar with are I use the

word subjective because it depends on where the author of that study wants to

take you if he's on the side The Catch and Release works the study is going to take you to proving you know positively

that it works if that study is being done by somebody who is anti- fishing and anti- releasing a fish that study it

can be turned to prove that we shouldn't be fishing or should not be releasing

fish that's why I say there objective there is not a study yet that I'm familiar with that is scientifically

based uh and without a Shadow of Doubt will tell you that that the Catch and

know what the one that came to mind most often was a very familiar Lake to us

which is only 20 minutes away from from the studio here which is now completely closed for walleye fishing right because

at one point you know we talk about transparency and we talk about governments and M&R Etc at one point M&R

uh asked for input from Anglers um to the possibility because

the walleye fishing was starting to WAN and the populations were dropping there there were this Lake skoog you're

talking yeah Lake skoog there were other circumstances that led to this as well by the way I don't want to put the blame

strictly on the winter harvesting of walleye on skoog for this but um at one

point &r had to make a decision because they did not want to see the collapse of this unique uh genan pool of walleye

that are on that Lake and so they asked the Anglers if they would consider the

moratorium at least a temporary one on ice fishing and uh the answer was a
1:16:29
resounding no from the users and so &r had no choice but to shut her all down

and they did and it's still shut down they did for sure you know I heard an interesting thing from uh from our buddy

Chris hawkley uh he told me about there's a couple of invasive weed species in that Lake that have taken

over the Walley spawning areas and so I mean when they were saying it's all about the people killing the fish and

all that well it wasn't just the people maybe it was part of it but these apparently what's going on under the

water right now is ridiculous apparently these these spawning areas these Rocky areas and the shorelines are getting

wiped out by this I can't remember what what the species of plant was but just another invasive in you know involved in

and ruining uh what was a great fish or helping to ruin what was a great fish how the hell would that even happen

though I wonder I don't know I have because skog is at the top of the mountain right everything flows out it's

not like it flows in everything is moving out so in order for invasives to

get into a lake like that they would have had to in this case aquatic uh plants they would have had to been
