on the road again look at us boys on the road again everybody Welcome to The
0:35
Outdoor Journal Radio podcast on the Outdoor Journal Radio podcast Network Pete Bowman here sitting uh uh with my
0:43
boys Steve Niki hell yeah Mr
0:49
Nick Mr Nick and my own Dean Taylor our de Taylor and vaa on the camera over
0:56
there and for those of you you really should be watching this on um on YouTube because we are sitting at a campfire on
1:04
the shores of the minus Basin which is attached to the Bay of fundi in Nova
1:11
Scotia and uh we are on a again on a road trip on our East Coast uh what do
1:17
you call it just a swing what's all that clicking noise any what do you got going on there I was getting Halls I'm little
1:24
coffee these days Nick has a called we yeah it's okay that's a good idea buddy Nick's got a nasty nasty cough it is and
1:31
it is brutal so I got 30 halls and that's going to going to be just crunch
1:36
them up do it all right now then and then it's all over here we go got a couple more out here the is going to
1:42
love this part enjoy the ASMR folks yeah Dean's going to hate this he's going to try and get rid might leave the sounds
1:47
right in there do that's fire sounds yeah so we again we are in Nova
1:54
Scotia on our East Coast trip so we started in New Brunswick uh we are now in Nova Scotia and we are going to end
2:00
this trip in New Brunswick for a 20-day total uh fishing Canada shoot which we
2:05
have never done before I I know and and I have been on the road a lot and done some extended trips but uh but this one
2:11
is really you know this is the longest just the way it worked out we have some days in between so we just said why are
2:16
we going to drive all the way home or fly home and then come back a day or two later and and finish this off so we
2:22
decided let's just stay here and uh and so far boys it's been pretty uh pretty it's been pretty awesome for sure oh
2:28
yeah no doubt we've done a lot of fish species in both provinces but we'll stick on the Nova Scotia side here now
2:33
on this one um again we're fishing the Bay of fund minus Basin um basically if you look on a map you're going to see
2:40
the bay ofun is a massive big Bay coming in from the Atlantic Ocean kind of Narrows down then it opens up again into
2:46
the back end of the bay that's the minus Basin and that's where this big tide this up to 50 plus foot tide every day
2:53
comes in well not 50 foot every day the tide comes in every day but the highest tides are 50 plus feet and we see it
2:58
here every day right now it's coming coming in and it fills the minus Basin in right to the end just sort of fills
3:03
it up like a a bathtub and then all these little Rivers like the Stak the shanak river and all that all that water
3:10
flows into these Rivers creates a tidle boore and then flows back out and it all goes back out to the ocean every twice a
3:16
day right twice a day it's a it's an incredible it's absolutely incredible so it's pretty breathtaking for sure it
3:22
really is it really is like what was it yesterday we were watching the water level drop on the Garmin yeah but every
3:27
15 minutes we would look over we were at 52 feet 51 feet 50 feet 49 48 47 it was
3:35
yeah you'd never see that anywhere else right you could watch the water drop in real time yeah yeah and our our species
3:40
here is strip bass sorry Stevie I'll just go quickly our our species list is is strip bass here is what we're looking
3:46
for and big stripers we're catching other shitfish they call them there's a there's a sand sharks or are more like a
3:53
dog fish and we see that in BC skates we got a bunch of skates again today uh we
4:00
those look like little manta rays they're like little Ray guys they're a weird looking dude was have we caught anything else guys on this trip or no no
4:08
that's it skates skates and Sharkies yeah and and the stripers so what are what are your boys thoughts so far on on
4:13
Nova Scotia theun fishing the one uh then this goes back to the tide and Greg
4:21
uh Bello our guide gave us a stat that blew my mind and into the Bay of Fundy
4:30
every day more water rushes than all of the freshwater rivers in all of North
4:39
America no the world he said the world freshwater rivers in the world in the world there's more water coming in and
4:45
out of this out of the Bay of fundi in the minus Basin that in one day than all
4:51
of the fresh water that's running in the world in the rivers yeah he stated that on the in and out of this tide that
4:57
comes in it's hundreds of billions of gallons per minute coming in and out
5:03
like that's that's an insane amount of stat we have we had the number on the
5:08
episode that I did here a few years back did you yeah I remember doing it for the for the vo but I can't remember what the number is tell us about that trip and
5:15
then we'll go move on to this trip that trip was really cool it was similar to this one obviously um in the episode it
5:21
was me and Grandpa yeah this one's going to be me and you yep and um no it was neat it was basically just a big drop
5:27
shot rig the piece of uh in drop it down and wait mhm then you uh you feel that
5:34
Rod load up and you know do you remember the comparison of where we're fishing this year as to where we were fishing last year yeah last year we were at that
5:40
big rock time or last time sorry last time we were at a big rock um you can actually see it when the tide is out you
5:46
can see how massive this rock truly is M then when that tag comes up you're just seeing the top part like just to let you
5:53
know Nick and and the audience will sort of get live through us here and that so our first day our first day out well we
6:01
fished two areas so we went over to the across the bay with with the uh with Vol the first time that was nice and flat
6:08
and the yester yesterday it was or whatever we went back to that rock that's where we filmed so we filmed both areas so far so back to your area and
6:15
it's that's my point I didn't know you're fishing The Rock cuz you can't even see it when the Tide's up yeah it's just flat water well it's not quite Flat
6:21
Water the the literal the water literally upwells uh in and out of this when the when the tide comes in so these
6:28
these Cliffs are I think they're 30 feet high this Brock is something like 30 feet high and it gets covered by 20 foot
6:34
foot more of water but that that Rush of water coming in it blows up and and then up wells and you can see the White Caps
6:40
off of those islands and then it Mellows out again and then it does the same thing on the way out it's a it's it's
6:45
very impressive yeah to say the least yeah yeah yeah now now fishing the tide boys tell me about your what your
6:52
thoughts on on fishing this tide it uh it's interesting you know the tide like they say here the tide waits for no one
6:58
yeah so it's whenever it goes out that's when you got to go when it goes in that's when you you know what I mean mhm
7:03
that part's really interesting cuz normally on these shoots we're up the crack acid on we're in the boat before
7:08
light or right at light we're out and we're there the whole day y here like
7:13
what was it the other day we we got on the water one today we got on two or one between between one and two tomorrow
7:19
it's going to be even later yep it's an hour later it's like well it's Bo was dream job I'll tell you that much cuz he
7:25
always wants to start at noa's loving ita's this is his favorite time of the year
7:30
but um it's it's interesting and being able to or not being able sorry having to leave right as the fishing is getting
7:37
good because that Tide's going back out m is is bizarre yeah and it adds like another level of uh action I would call
7:45
it how long have we do you think we have out in these rocks boys what is our time on there from start to finish how much
7:50
how many hours are we four four hours four four 4 4 and a half at most and then you have to leave you have like
7:57
Nick said you got to get back or you're yeah you can't put your your truck your boat back on the trailer because the
8:02
boat launch is dry you can't drive it into the boat launch so it's it's crazy
8:07
um and and when you asked the question about how do you guys feel about fishing the tide and um I've done a lot of
8:16
fishing but you just don't understand how much current there truly is on such
8:24
a big body of water when you're fishing the tide and and we're we're basic Al
8:29
fishing slip rigs so um we've got a uh um uh about a 30in ler real heavy 120 lb
8:40
uh mono I think is what we've been using we ran some 100 lb uh Yuri hybrid too
8:45
yeah some of that on there and it work it worked really good so to a swivel and then there's a um it's basically um uh
8:52
just a snap on a slide on a plastic slide that rides above the uh swivel on
8:59
your on your uh leader and at points that's on braid that that is on our main
9:06
line is braid that's right then we have our floral leaders or nylon leaders and and we're using to give you an idea a
9:15
pound and a half of weight at some points 26 ounces we anchor into the
9:21
current we anchor and then the the the the current and it's very uh it's it's
9:27
almost ominous when you're out there there and and the anchor Hooks and it
9:32
feels like you're trolling and the current is moving at 6 to 7 uh miles an
9:39
hour okay and uh when once you hook up and you drop your lines your lines go
9:46
straight back out behind the boat and for as as um um heavy as you would think
9:54
this fishing is the fishing for these strip bass is is is a lot like walleye
10:00
fishing because you'll feel them nibbling like you'll feel them on the bait and and uh uh Greg uh uh Bello
10:09
guide he he says now just let him eat it just let him nibble it nibble it let him nibble it and you got to really and and
10:16
the other thing he always says is you got to bow to the bass and what he means is when you're feeling these fish biting
10:23
and chewing and and grabbing that bait you got to pick a time when you feel them really taking it and point Your Rod
10:30
tip down to them to give them the the slack and then pull up feel weight and
10:37
set the hook and uh it's a lot like walleye fishing when you're fishing live
10:42
bait as well you can feel them down there just pecking at it and then you got to try and time your hook set it's a
10:50
lot like that but the current is ridiculous and sometimes you can be in a
10:55
wind that uh while we were the last couple of days it's been up to 20 km an
11:02
hour winds and the tide is so strong that the way that you think you should
11:09
be anchored is exactly opposite the wind you're you're anchored into the current
11:15
and the wind is blowing at your back it's it's it's the it's a very strange
11:20
feeling and it can be very dangerous as F like there was one aluminum boat uh
11:26
that dropped the anchor and with the current the anchor rope will will drift underneath your boat and uh if it gets
11:34
caught around the motor and it hooks up or in the slack tide your boat does
11:40
exactly a 180 and if your your your um prop gets caught in your anchor rope
11:47
it'll pull the the stern of your boat right under and there were a couple of
11:52
young fellas out on on the bay a couple of days ago that basically were were
11:57
were within minutes of sinking their boat um and it's um like I mean it's
12:04
it's unbelievable fishing but the water is dangerous and it and it doesn't
12:10
really look that way but I'll tell you what when you go to a boat launch and I
12:16
haven't seen it at high tide cuz we're we've been fishing the high tide but when we drop our boats in we're driving
12:24
like 200 yard away up a hill and uh if
12:29
you don't park way up there your boat your your truck and trailer are going to go underwater like I mean tonight
12:37
tonight we had uh we didn't get uh we we
12:42
won't say who parked Greg's truck but he didn't do a great job of it cuz half of it was in the water so yeah yeah like I
12:48
mean it's it's crazy the the amount of of change that you see here on a
12:55
consistent basis and uh it's um it's ridiculous and not to mention the Sharks
13:00
we haven't actually had the experience there you go to see them but um
13:06
apparently last week there were multiple shark sightings and they have makos great whites um so it's it's crazy um
13:16
and you never know it's not over yet we may still uh we may still see some sharks the trip is Young you know what I
13:22
wonder if the um if this we have a constant we've been barraged by an East
13:27
or east Northeast or a Northeast wind this whole week pretty much and I wonder if that turns the Sharks off as much as
13:33
it turns fishing off it could have because they were here up until last week they were seeing sharks on a daily
13:38
basis everybody else counting yeah and then and the fishing there was a lot more 40 in plus fish being caught right
13:46
I understand the the striper part it's all about fishing and Greg said the same thing East Wind is the is the worst but
13:51
I wonder if that affects the Sharks too I bet you it would you know what I mean why wouldn't it I don't know well they're all the you know what I mean so
13:58
the other thing uh we'll get a little technical here I don't know if Steve mentioned he was talking about the bait we're using Herring here so um Amanda
14:06
Perry so Greg Bello's wife she prepares all the Herring and gets it all like they they have a great a little process
14:11
that they do to make their Herring a little different from everybody else you buy the Herring off of them and uh we
14:17
can we cut it a certain sizes it depends on on the on the bite what's going on if you want big fish you should use almost
14:23
a full Herring or a big one but then you can cut it down if the current's strong you kind of cut it down cuz it pulls so hard like Stevie was saying
14:29
hour all that stuff and the uh and what they do is they use either the smallest hook they use is an 8 Hook and the
14:36
largest they uses a 10 so anybody that's listening that knows their hook sizes a 10 Hook is huge it's a big hook big ass
14:43
hook they are yeah and even just tying tying your 100 lb 120 lb uh um mono or
14:51
floral on there or hybrid it's it's it's a chore to do you know what I mean so St and two job St and I did it as a two-man
14:58
job you with with pulling it and and wetting it and all that yeah so it's pretty neat and
15:03
and they use ball bearing swivels to make sure everything runs really nice and smooth and then Greg has uh there there's two types of rods and reels you
15:10
use you can use a big heavy duty spinning rod reel or you can use a heavy duty bait caster I think most of us have
15:16
been switching between them and all that I prefer the bait caster on it I just like the way the feel of it the way you
15:21
can drop it out but uh the other thing we've done uh I've been lucky to be able to do is I I brought a a b basically a
15:29
bass Rod a heavy duty swimbait rod and some of these New York xouri saltwater lures they're not they're not big but
15:36
they're 3 oz which is a big fishing lure right in the world of bats and everything else it's huge but in the
15:41
world of these guys or in muskies probably not that small not that big but um during the slack so during the high
15:48
tide or the incoming and outgoing the the peak of those Tides you can't fish a 3 o lure it will not even hit the bottom
15:54
you'll be you'll spool your line out it'll be gone it's that it's that strong but when they when Steve said a slack
15:59
tide so that's when the tide decides okay I've gone in all the way and now I'm going to start dumping out of the
16:05
Basin or vice versa and that that time your current is the is the slowest so um
16:10
I took that 3 oz out with with the it was so cool it was cast I threw it out
16:16
and I just I wasn't expecting and and I said I said Nick I just had a bite you're Miss you're missing a piece there what we were seeing on the Garmin oh
16:22
yeah I'll get i'll get into that in a second and and then uh and then B and I said Nick I just had a bite and goes no
16:28
way I says yeah and and all of a sudden thump and I got about a four or five lb striper on this bait and it was just so
16:33
cool doing it and as we did that we looked at the Garmin that Nick was saying and on the on the Liv sculp uh
16:39
LVS 62 unit so the saltwater unit the heavy duty the Blue Water unit whatever you want to call it that screen was lit
16:46
up like we've never seen a screen never seen that many fish on a screen before so awesome and it was comparing it and
16:52
the strong Tides they were all close to the bottom sometimes Midway up on this screen they were from Top top to bottom
16:59
and out about 40 ft at least and it was all it was just loaded with fish so it was no wonder that I was going to get
17:06
bit so I thought okay we are on buddy let's we were happy school he grabbed a rod I grabbed the I said let's go like
17:12
that we cast about 25 more times and we did not catch another fish fast forward
17:17
to today Nick you weren't out today so Steven Dean and I were out pre- fishing or scouting this another new hump and all that and I said the same thing slack
17:23
tide hey boys first cast I popped one but I caught him in the somewhere I think got him in the Gill little guy
17:29
two casts later threw it out same thing boom got got another one brought him in
17:34
so much fun I said boys I love this and it done it was done again it was like two fish it was just fast over so I you
17:41
would have to be like I don't know how you have to time it after the first one not to bite I don't I don't You' think
17:48
that but I don't think it is I know obviously the most bizarre thing I've ever seen in fishing how fast it goes on
17:53
and off and I could not I tried today and Stevie tried A muscu baate and D tried a sinking fly try it
17:59
all yeah and nothing happened on any of that stuff except for that big yui jig is the only thing it was a saltwater jig
18:06
but just to let you know we do try other stuff out here but when that tide is at its peak in or out I there's no way I
18:11
can even fish those baits you can't we even put some Herring on the Yer at one point I did it again today I put it on
18:17
afterwards nothing it's it's bizarre it was craziness it was I don't know what the what there must be a certain maybe a
18:23
10-minute window that you 5 minute window that's what it seems like two days doing it so I'm going to try the
18:29
the actual slack water doesn't it there's not a very long period of time
18:35
it's not even slack really is it no and uh like I mean but you when you're using
18:40
the kind of weight we're constantly either upping weight and and uh Greg's got you know a 3 o 5 o 10 o 16 o weights
18:50
and as the the tide weakens as you're coming closer to the the slack period
18:56
when it's going to when it it's gone in and it's going to come out or vice versa we're constantly adjusting that weight
19:04
because like I mean at the slack period you're right under the boat you're
19:10
straight under the boat yeah yeah yeah yeah and we had to we had to worry about tangling lines we did it a couple times
19:15
today when it says slack tide is there's more control when there's pull and tide on that speaking of the tide I I don't
19:21
know if anybody listening or watching has ever fished either the Niagara River
19:26
or the St Lawrence River or any strong River in let's say Canada and the Inland rivers and all that stuff but those
19:33
rivers are usually running at the French would be slower probably lot slower but
19:38
but those Rivers I know that we used to fish this excuse me and night the St Lawrence two if it was 3 miles hour it
19:44
was ripping at 3 m hour this is seven see drinks up to eight and it doesn't
19:49
look it the water is is very dangerous cuz it's unassuming oh my God it's yeah it's unassuming yeah it does look it
19:56
when you see that up while looks like you're trolling the Wake off
20:02
the back of the boat it's ridiculous isn't it like it's and the and the scariest part to me basically you are is
20:08
yeah the scariest part to me is that anchoring set setup now these guys have it all set up right they have electric
20:13
anchors on the front of their boats well we don't have that on our Prince crap because we don't hardly ever use anchors we have power poles we have an trolling
20:19
motor with anchor mode on it we don't really use anchors that much so we made up an anchor for this we got a a SE we
20:25
bored a 7 PB anchor off Greg we have a 2 put a chain cuz the chain brings your anchor down to the bottom so your rope
20:32
isn't floating up and giving you a bad angle so you can drag into the Rocks we have we put I think 150 foot of rope on
20:38
our anchor on top of that and then basically we have to let there sit there and Dean was doing it Dean has to drop
20:43
the anchor straight down straight down as I'm take the boat and put it in neutral so that they it kind of and then
20:49
Bump It Forward bump it back so it goes right down to the bottom then we got to put it in either reverse or let it drift
20:55
away from the Rope Dean lets all the Rope Rope Rope Rope Rope and then then all of a sudden we come to the end of the Rope we just we just let it all out
21:01
we don't care about where we are sitting exactly and then all of a sudden you got to wait for that anchor to grab now it's
21:07
dragging along this Rocky ocean floor now and and all that and if it grabs it grabs if it doesn't remember last year
21:13
Nick last time here we had a hard time this time it grabbed a couple of good times and we had a good couple of good grabs it finally dug in twice I
21:20
yesterday it let go right we were just fishing away and all of a sudden we're seeing the boats all moving this way and we're thinking what the hell's going on
21:26
well that's us moving backwards because our anchor let go but the hardest part is lifting that sucker back in you I got
21:31
to give I got to give Dean I got to give you some props CU me and vaa did it twice yesterday yesterday and it took
21:38
both of us like I the first one I did about 70% and I couldn't feel my hands anymore yeah vaa came in and saved my
21:44
ass the next time I said vaa you're you're getting up here with me I'm not doing it alone yeah and it it left both
21:51
of us oh yeah tired it's a hard job you couldn't do it without the the assist of
21:57
the motor we I have to put the motor in gear and steer forward very slow trolling speed just so it stays up with
22:03
the boys and then I'm watching them pull that rope in because as Steve said if the Rope gets too far behind it gets around the the motor or something like
22:10
that then you're in real trouble or you cut your anchor up with a prop it could be many things that happen like that right so it's that that's one of the
22:16
freakiest things to me is that anchoring when you're when you have hand baling in and out like that that's a that's a
22:21
tough gig and when it when it doesn't catch like or when it breaks loose sorry it's freaky oh yeah happen you're moving
22:28
oh you got snagged up in it broke loose yeah the yesterday that was that was like Panic that's right cuz you know
22:36
that yeri uh leader and the braid like you can't break that yeah it's ridiculous it does not you it will tow
22:42
the boat I said I I started to panic I said boys I called the other boat I said boys I'm snagged up the anchor gave in
22:48
my an my either my bait hung up or my my weights hung up and I let and there was
22:53
no cleat to you could really wrap it around because basically what you do is you wrap it around a cleat and try and break your line but even that can get
22:58
you in trouble if you got a heavy enough braid it can hold both you I mean so and then all of a sudden you snapped yeah it
23:04
just very weird finally popped and wait till the braid it was the braid somewhere in there so that was that was
23:10
a scary moment of my life so and and and you would be surprised even with your
23:15
with your with the braid how much resistance it has in the water against
23:23
that tide so um when you drop your rope down that rope gets pull hold in in the
23:30
in the force of the tide just like whenever you're dropping those big weights down on the slide if you don't
23:36
drop it down and then wait for the weight to catch up that weight drops and
23:42
then there's a it creates a a loop in your line like a bow yeah and that that
23:47
bowl can it it just it it it's it's very strong and it's something that you got
23:52
to get used to the feel for for sure mhm speaking online the stripers have the
23:58
snack of being able to twist your leader around the slide and we we saw that a
24:03
couple times when you pull it back up to check your bait and it is so tangled and
24:08
mangled looking we had a a straper today I had a straper today that literally put my put my Herring above the swivel
24:16
remember that boys 2 and a half three feet up current it was above the Greg says how the hell did you do that how
24:22
did that happen like that was that the bizarre stuff happens down let's talk about the fish we haven't got any Giants
24:27
yet no but uh we've got some good ones some good ones that mid 30s the other
24:33
day numbers yeah yeah Greg got a 30 in today we're just farting around hitting a new SP spots Steve got a 27 I think
24:38
today uh today and then uh that one at the end of yesterday was really cool the one I got that was a big one too it was
24:44
big but it wasn't long that was the problem if it it was it was disproportionately fat right so if it
24:51
was as long as it was fat it would have been a massive Beast for sure it shows that they're they're probably different
24:57
stage of eating too because some of them are really fat and there are some like some that are quite lean in here couple
25:03
of the ones today were fairly lean yeah I was surprised to seeing that least long fish but they didn't seem to be
25:08
full of bellies but I I'm not sure but I know I know uh Greg and all the boys
25:14
they they all talk about that 40in Mark is the number here it's like a pike right that 40 in is the number it's like
25:20
a 50in Musky exactly it's like a 20in bass it's like a 30-in walleye you know
25:26
what I mean they're they're all they always have these numbers and that and that 40in number is what they're all
25:31
striving for and that would be over 20 lbs for sure because I I think he was saying that uh
25:37
he uh Greg got a 41 and it was um 35 lbs and a 42 and a
25:46
half was 37 lb really yeah okay yeah I got a 36 the first day and I'll tell you
25:54
these fish are so strong oh man um our buddy Jeff Wilson over in the miror
26:00
Machi calls them uh South Compton Fish you know because they're so tough yeah
26:06
they are right and and you couple a 36 in fish that's strong because they're
26:12
constantly swimming in current with a 7 mph current it's it's
26:19
crazy how hard they pull you know and they eat it they I was asking them today
26:25
I said okay what's their diet down there because they're they going to be eating fish etc etc he say but they're a tough fish their mouths are tough everything
26:31
they seem to have you know this this this different attitude than any other bass in the world or whatever and he
26:36
says they catch so many with crabs and full lobsters and everything in their
26:42
guts they say they eat they'll just crush and kill anything as long as it's edible they eat it yeah so pretty insane
26:50
to to you know to hear stuff like that these guys are they're Predators they are absolute apex predator except for
26:55
the shark and anything bigger than them down here right but speaking of shark it was interesting that um that first day
27:01
that me and you went out when the dogf fish came in yeah the stripers went away Gandhi gone they done gone the second
27:08
that we started getting multiple dog fish mhm we didn't get a single striper the rest of the day yeah I agree I don't
27:14
know what that was at the slack tie too that was for some reason after the turn yeah it slacked after the turn slacked
27:19
the dog fish came in the stripers went out and that could be to do with the structure too cuz we're fishing see
27:24
basically we're we're not fishing like we normally would do normally we are moving and grooving and moving and
27:30
looking and looking and moving and everything else and this stuff we're anchored in one spot and we're fishing too because we're anchored one way and
27:36
then we're the tide changes we're anchored and we're moving the other way 200 feet away and it's uh and it's kind
27:42
of bizarre that we don't move around but there's not enough time there's only 5 hours or four hours or whatever and the
27:47
anchoring system as we just told you is just nuts to to uh try and and lift and drop and lift and drop uh the ultimately
27:54
Ultimate Way of fishing these guys would be to move around a little bit at least you know what I mean especially on slack high and low tide so if there was a way
28:01
to have a an electric trolling motor on the front that powerful enough yeah to
28:07
be able to get through that tide efficiently yeah we could that yeah our garmer wouldn't do it ANS and I done it
28:12
so many times in the St Lawrence River with a 36 volt Garmin um and that's a 100 you know 100ish pounds thrust and it
28:20
does a great job in 2 to 3 m an hour current but we need three batteries
28:27
three batteries to last all day long on it you know what I mean two batteries one single battery I don't think would do it and out here there's no way you
28:33
could do it you'd need three trolling motors all you know just stacked to do it 99 on the back just to help out yeah
28:40
yeah it's just it be the only way you could do it so that that's the downfall to what we're doing here is a in my
28:45
opinion is just we're not fishing the structure the way we we we should be but we can't just you can't you have to
28:51
Anchor and hope the fish come to you sort of thing right so that's the that's the weird part to me yeah you know it's kind of bizarre but the the bite is the
29:00
like Stevie said the the bite is insane numbers are ridiculous you that bite yeah 40 inch
29:07
it'll do you'll think there a perch down there what's he doing down there and all of a sudden loads up but uh it's it's
29:14
you compared it to Walley fishing but Walley hit relatively light on those Taps these Taps you know something's oh
29:21
yeah it's it's it's you we're saying nibbles and Taps it's like a Punch Yeah it's getting punched you know it's that
29:28
you know it's there now what's the most unique thing that's happened in this shoot so far
29:34
boys I got it in my head right now I got mine it's the first ever I think huh go
29:41
ahead Nick it's a the skate and the pliers oh you had to bring that up
29:47
didn't you go you go ahead you can tell the story this the first ever skate like
29:52
I said this little Stingray that that we caught out there and I didn't know I got one truth be told I was was reeling in
29:59
to check if I had any Herring left cuz you got to do that every few minutes check if you got bait left on the line
30:05
there some reeling up it's just it's just way heavier than it should be and three quars away then there's some sort
30:11
of small fight but it's nothing and there's a little skate on the end of the line on the hook and I got him right in
30:16
the side in the fin like like I said they're like manta rays right so right in that that Wing he's got Wing yeah
30:23
exactly that's a good way to it his wing and um right through the meat right right through through like it was good
30:28
it was a few inches into that Wing like I snagged him bad I felt bad for the for the Ray and uh Pete we you've seen them on
30:36
the show for years this pair of blue needle nose pliers yeah with a nice
30:41
little hand strap on nice hand strap nice wrist strap you put around no chance of dropping it nowhere yeah and
30:47
Pete being the the kind scholar that he is said I'm going to get the hook out for you next so you don't kind of get
30:52
stung by this the skate I said well thank you so he's trying in this skate like we got it all camera it is doing
30:59
its damnedest to sting Pete like like Pete it would stop he stops Pete goes
31:04
right towards it's tails up and it's trying to hit him it gets to a point where we think it's calmed down and Pete
31:11
goes again and it snaps real quick Pete screams throws the pliers it just
31:17
dropped them just Dro in the ocean gone gone I looked like the biggest
31:25
[ __ ] wimpy [ __ ] that ever fished in a I screamed like a little girl almost I
31:30
didn't scream but I scared the [ __ ] out of me it was so cuz and apparently I Nick could kind of put the fear of God
31:37
in it he's talking about Steve dying from that but they made me think they they're poisonous but today I
31:42
found out they're not poisonous but they will give you a good a good uh coton you
31:48
know Elation of Sting and it'll last and same with the dog fish and all that so dog fish are they do have um Venom on
31:55
there doish got a Venom yeah but he says still not your just St you're not going to die you're not going to die the big
32:01
ones the big ones will get but all these fish folks I'm telling you the skates and these dog fish they have on their
32:07
tails they have these stingers and they try to nail you with it every time it's they are pissed off they're accurate oh
32:12
yeah they want to get you every time and and they're meaty so you can't you got to get your pliers as when you try to
32:19
take a hook out of a a fish you got to get around that round part of the plier well you're trying to do that this
32:24
asshole's Tails coming up and trying to whack you times like in a if anybody's everever held a a snake by the tail yeah
32:33
that's what you're kind of trying to deal with yeah yeah exactly yeah that's exactly it's it's insane
32:44

34:41
one of the most unique things for me coming out east and I've been out east a couple of times but um it's the people a
34:51
when we got here um they had uh Greg had organized this uh uh Lobster meal and
35:01
and um live entertainment and and I I mean the town of economy where we're at
35:07
it's not a big town and I am pretty sure that just about everybody that lives here was here with us you know with the
35:17
live band and um and and that Hospitality uh from start to finish
35:25
hasn't hasn't changed M you know um and it's it's so wonderful to come to
35:31
a place where the people are just so
35:36
freaking nice like I mean it's everybody it's everybody you know we had the door
35:42
open the garage door one night and uh we were sitting on a picnic table playing poker and you know Brandon rolls in and
35:50
hey boys how you doing you mind if we come in for a beer and the next thing you know there's a party in the garage
35:55
yeah and and great people yeah Absol salt of the earth man salt of the earth I thought you guys would get this I was
36:01
hinting at it so uh This fishing Canada shoot has a one of and it'll probably never happen again and our good friend
36:08
Joe Anthony from K Breton Island been with us here for a couple days fishing and God love him and then all of a
36:14
sudden Joe Joe owns a now owns a hel as part owner of a helicopter company and they do all the you know whatever search
36:19
and rescue to firefighting to whatever the helicopters they need say you boys want to go for a helicopter ride oh yeah
36:26
wasit came over to Greg Bello's Place landed her on the grass we all get in
36:31
the helicopter and we are flying up and down the Bay of Fundy shorelines it was just the most extraordinary thing it was
36:37
the coolest thing ever Joe didn't even go he just said you go boys have fun you know what I mean we'll get some of those up on Instagram after this I drove yeah
36:45
Joe got in pretend he was going to drive I say get the hell out of here I said you're not doing that uh so like that
36:50
that was pretty damn cool Jo pilot Matt is a pretty cool dude dude great guy
36:55
that was pretty neat a that right boys no it was neat well for Matt the ride was awesome he was a what it the sea
37:03
sea horse Commander was in the Navy right in the Navy he by the age of 23 or
37:09
was it the Air Force was an Air Force Squad command huge helicopters and
37:15
you're right it was it's a one of the largest helicopters that we have here in Canada I forgot the name of it we don't
37:21
know the name see something and uh he was the commander at the age of 23 yeah
37:27
Captain he was a captain remember you said the captain Captain sorry Captain commander and all that we got a great
37:32
pilot great guy and uh him and Joe I think they're doing they're doing an awesome job they're buying more
37:37
helicopters any thank you Joel for that right that was for the boys that was pretty amazing that was all all three of
37:44
you guys was your first helicopter R right yes it was yeah and and this was not just any freaking helicopter this
37:50
this this isn't the uh the helicopter that you see on uh on TV on that 1980s
37:56
show you Magnum PI Magnum PI this this is this is a Cadillac it was all leather
38:03
interior it it would it would hold five in the pilot um do you remember what he
38:08
said that interior is worth yeah I remember what he said the interior is worth it's like 30 G's Canadian I think
38:16
like I mean but everything Hey listen it's a helicopter everything on a helicopter is is is expensive for those
38:22
who who know helicopters it was a Bell 407 is that 407 yeah 47 or 409 this one
38:29
was the 407 I think he has a 409 47 it was a Bell 407 it's a coolest helicopter
38:36
sweet ever what a great what a great way to to literally view the Bay of Fundy I
38:42
mean it was just incredible the site and it was at low tide too yeah it was so cool you can see the banks well we got
38:47
some pictures going up as we speak of uh some from the helicopter the aerial pictures and stuff like that and videos
38:53
and and it'll be included in the show too cuz cuz wva shot it all too so I'm sure we can put you know punch a little bit of that into the show and all that
38:59
stuff so yeah it was pretty cool so anything else boys camera guys always get the best seat oh we gave it to
39:07
them rock paper scissors and then is that okay Bo yeah that's okay yeah yeah
39:13
no it's more like yes I should go there no I asked him when we got off how was that you was cool yeah it was was that's
39:21
like a n and a half he's a chill attitude know what I
39:26
mean shalant anything else boys I'm I'm just pulling this o only because I have some special thanks to do at the end of
39:32
this so what else you guys want to I want to talk about how the dra the the tide changes how strong that fish can
39:40
fight yeah right oh Abol like we said it's up to 8 8 m an hour at Max for that
39:47
current and that big fat fish the skinny one I was talking about earlier it was pulling drags when I caught it so I I
39:54
immediately thought I got a 40 plus like I was I was like Pete you got to get the net get get [ __ ] together because this
40:00
fish is pulling yeah and pulling and pulling and once we got in we we
40:05
realized it's only pulling drag cuz it's fight going with the current yeah but it was a big fish it was still a big fish
40:10
don't get me wrong but we had a bigger one a few days before and it didn't pull yeah yeah this one smaller with the
40:16
current was rip and drag out yeah yeah yeah the current they they use it to their advantage and they and they fight
40:23
the thing about current fish current related fish be in tide be at a river be it whatever is these fish live in this
40:31
current tide whatever every day of their life so they build it's like Mr Taylor beside me here going to the gym every
40:37
day he ain't getting weaker going to the gym he's getting stronger going to the gym every day these fish are the same thing they just go they just fight that
40:43
current they learn how to swim as best they can to save energy but they're stronger and stronger and stronger so
40:49
when you take a small mold bass that's in St Lawrence River versus a small M bass in Lake Ontario and you put them tail to tail I pretty much guarantee if
40:56
they're the same size that St Lawrence riverfish is going to out pull the other on bu strength they just build they're just stronger they got they got more
41:03
working out to do yeah there's lots of muscle on it so there's that and and there's and and for those of you out
41:09
there listening and and have heard we're fishing for stripe bass that's exactly what we're doing but it's also called
41:16
sea bass yeah and when you go to the store and you see seab bass that is what
41:22
we're fishing it tastes and oh yeah we had a fish oh it tastes so standing yeah
41:28
another special thanks to Joe Anthony cuz he set up set us up some crab cuz that's another business is a crab business so you did that and we kept two
41:34
fish and yeah we had we're going to do it again tomorrow aren't we oh yeah oh the the the seafood out here in Nova
41:43
Scotia is Second To None like I mean I'm going to have to do this in Prince Edward Island and in new newfinland too
41:50
to compare but um so far man the seafood
41:56
and the CL fried clams God yeah world class for
42:01
sure I'll tell you I have some friends who say they don't like seafood mhm and they've never eaten fresh seafood before
42:08
yeah exactly like Dean for example he had never actually had crab up until the other day right I don't think I would
42:14
say I like crab if I never actually had fresh crab yeah yeah you're probably
42:20
right right you're probably right it's a game changer you know what the crab is one thing but just to let people know
42:25
the stripe bass this sea bass as Steve called it Chile and sea bass it is one of the finest eating fish you will ever
42:32
have it's honest honestly it is so flaky so perfect it's it's like if you love
42:38
walleye and Pike it is as close to that as you're ever going to get maybe better the way you cooked it the other
42:45
day I think was better than W when when we braded that and you you slow seared it in the pan and and we wrapped some up
42:53
and took it in the boat the next day that [ __ ] cold was better than KFC cold
42:59
man oh I'm not [ __ ] you I it Wasing like I mean it's like chicken wow
43:07
it it it it is really truly I was glad that we had cuz Stevie said oh we only have butter to cook it and I said that's
43:14
fine he saids no it'll burn I said not the way I cook it but I cook it nice and slow and Stevie I don't think Stevie had
43:19
really expected how slow I cooked I just watch it you know no it was beautiful like it took 20 minutes to cook these
43:25
these fillets on on like low to not even
43:31
close to medium and uh uh it browned up beautifully and it was it was uh crispy
43:39
the next day it wasn't all that crispy but it was so with only with breadcrumbs on it so
43:46
this time Nick mutton got us some garlic powder today so we're going to put some nice garlic I'm excited for that I'm a
43:51
garlic head I love garlic so that was outstanding for sure boys and we're going to have it again tomorrow night so
43:58
uh anything else Les before weo what do you got the fire's going out is driving me nuts I hear you I'm in charge of that
44:06
thing you can't do it with that so I'm going to just throw some special thanks here for this trip here guys because I think we really need to do this we
44:13
talked about Greg Bello and Amanda and uh they are for Bass Barn Charters so
44:19
Amanda Perry is his his um his wife they just different and uh Amanda does
44:26
prepares the baits repairs the leaders does all that Greg does all the chartering she looks after Greg she
44:31
looks after Greg for sure he's got a he's got a big uh VY boat with you know with a 140 horsepower motor on it it's a
44:39
solid boat when when you go out with Greg you're going to you're not going to get wet uh he knows this stuff he's he's
44:45
he's very unique he's a very unique East coaster I'll tell you what he's such a riot he'll have you in stitches all day
44:52
long he'll have you uh easy up easy down he'll have you doing all his techniques and all that he's the best he's like a
44:59
master in the Kate k and then as Stevie said Diane's Restaurant with the with the baked clams they they literally they
45:05
have people coming from Halifax over to here for the baked clams you know they drive for hours two of them or fried
45:11
clams and they have their own Clam Factory with 0 Pickers right here right out the on the on the that's how fresh
45:18
it is uh it's right from right from the shore here yeah yeah Davis food market and seafood uh we uh we got a lot of our
45:26
Goods for the boat there and they're right up the road here again cuz this is the economy I didn't even think we said
45:31
that it's in economy Nova Scotia and it's a very small like a town of 300 or something like that at most I think I
45:37
heard say 300 yeah it's very tiny but all this stuff is all together and again with the hospitality he was talking
45:42
about these places it is ridiculous we're we're staying at K Lighthouse rentals so you can't see it but right
45:49
there behind baa is where Stevie and I are staying in the in a lighthouse we're literally living in a lighthouse in the
45:59
Love Shack baby yeah yeah Stevie was snoring Stevie got snoring one night Bo
46:04
said said freaking light going around there just have to listen for Stevie snoring for Christ sakes he had her
46:09
going good um and then the boys are up at the top in a in a bed and breakfast area up there a beautiful uh Kenny M
46:17
Kenny ma K KY Kenny likes to fish too he's got a boat right in the garage he goes out every day with us he's going
46:23
out there with us so um we're going to the four season's next uh so it's another facility that Nick and I and an
46:29
stayed at the last time we were here in 2019 another beautiful place and there's some Shoreline fishing if you want to do
46:35
it there too it's just it's down the road a little bit further from us but not far go ahead fun fact I gra my
46:41
grandfather gave me this jacket at that four seasons 5 years ago wow that is just cool that was not planned by the
46:47
way that just popped in my head right now you're almost as bunch of dick as Dem stop it
46:53
Sten the Four Seasons I'm just un and I want to throw a special thanks out for
46:59
uh for Peter swim who's uh we met here uh he's he supplied the lobster for us
47:04
at this uh at this Lobster Fest we had the other night so thanks so much Peter for that Peter um works in the lobster
47:11
industry and all that stuff and he just supplied everybody with these great lobsters and lobster meal so and that's
47:17
typical of the East Coast oh you guys need lobsters here you go you know here's here's 20 lb 30 lb whatever they
47:23
give you or 30 lobsters it it doesn't matter to them there's no there's no price on it the value was just just such
47:30
a great guy oh my God and and folks attitude he laughs get laughing I had
47:35
him laughing Today iard Him howling and Donnie his buddy his fishing buddy they're all so good and whenever you're
47:42
watching the episode that airs from here if our time lapse uh makes the uh makes
47:47
the uh cut um that was right from uh Peter's backyard yeah so we need a place
47:53
to watch the tide come in and out and Peter says hey go to my backyard Vol put the camera up there we picked it up today V thumbs up thumbs down what do
48:00
you think you're going to get a good one thumbs up from V you know it's going to be good you know it's going to be good
48:05
had the thumbs up that's all was so uh yeah so it's a special thanks to all those people and then everybody we've met here and again to this East Coast to
48:13
anybody who has not been to Canada's East Coast I am telling you we are telling you it is the place to go for
48:20
Hospitality for things to do for sightseeing we stopped in antique shops today I mean everything it just doesn't
48:27
matter our waitress over at the dou restaurant and I don't even know
48:32
what town that's in she is freaking hilarious like we she had us in stitches and everybody is like everybody's like
48:39
that they just it's just an insane attitude that they have here and I mean well nobody gets offended no and I've
48:45
never heard anyone been able to shut up Pete before she well I did not shut up yeah
48:51
shut up shut you down put put you in your place a little bit for sure she said uh I'll come on your fish show and
