1:17

1:23
we have that's that's real it almost sounds like it's made up like a quick Sten Smith it's your YouTube name
1:30
right um Step Smith uh has been among other things he he produces some
1:37
wonderful howto videos in the outdoors uh Arena um does a lot of product
1:43
comparisons a lot of product use a lot of product reviews but he put two
1:50
particular pieces out that caught our attention because they're very near and dear to our life and that is about uh
1:58
waterproof outerwear and in particular uh membranes like
2:03
gortex because I grew up on gortex much like you did everything out there using
2:08
gortex in the in the in the form of good rainwear that's what it is all about right hey it's a gortex yeah okay that's
2:14
exactly soon as soon as that name you know that you are going to be high and dry yes sir he might tell us how high
2:22
we're going to get on that stuff you never know well uh posos is a product byproduct of these uh outer layers in
2:30
layers sprays a whole we'll find out all about that but in the studies um that um
2:36
Stephen conducted showed that posos was the byproduct that comes out of this
2:42
stuff that we need to be concerned with so we'll uh got over 84 million views
2:48
and over 204 videos that's a lot of views right there doing good is pretty good so so he'll join us in a bit and
2:54
dispel some of the myths maybe about the things that I love and that that is
3:00
waterproof breathable you got breathable braines yeah yeah hell yeah uh moving
3:08

3:27
well so there you go but let's not forget that we also have uh the store
3:32
there Dean you had it up there and then you took it away on me well cuz I threw one into yeah you did kind we're always
3:39
throwing these advertising I thought you know let's get the people into there maybe they want to see shows and stuff would you love one of these I'd love a
3:46
brook troat fried 14in fried Brook the brook troat you wouldn't eat a brook
3:52
troat would you are frogs green are brookies colorful God uhhuh you you've eaten
3:59
Brook before you have I have but very very very limited I've seen a picture on
4:04
a Stringer back in alonquin I've seen those in the AR yes yes and bigger than the ones I ate too very limited and I
4:11
was young and foolish and all that stuff yes okay I don't think I would eat one
4:17
today really first of all I'm not a big fan of right if I I'm not either but the
4:24
little brookies and the little Browns brown trout those little stream Browns are as good or better than Brook troat
4:30
and I got to say I've never used to be a fan of rainbow as much but rainbow troat are very good eating too if they're
4:36
smaller size and they're done right so I know Lakers you can yeah you can throw those old greasy guys back in the in the
4:42
drink not a big fan no um boltro Dean you ever eaten boltro yeah my experience
4:48
wasn't very good yeah I wanted to try it just cuz the place I was in BC is one of the only place you can cuz you can't
4:55
keep them pretty much anywhere but the place I was in you could so I thought I'd try it and it wasn't very they're big salmon eaters you think they'd be if
5:01
they were eating salmon they might be good eating scavengers a lot of the time yeah they are yeah yeah we ate gring one
5:08
time in the only place where you could yeah British BC in the mountains it was
5:14
it was as yeah yeah why wouldn't it be though when we always am beautiful water like
5:22
best water quality out there I'd probably taste good if I lived in that oh my
5:31
uh listener feedback Dave Fleming via YouTube Dave Fleming via YouTube in response to
5:39
episode 155 which was uh how to make a fishing
5:44
show yeah we did that yeah we did that remember we went through a bunch of stuff that people realiz I love you know
5:51
I love being my age for a couple of reasons I know here comes the Easter egg thing right exactly I can hide on
5:58
myself and then I'm I'm shocked when I find it what do you what about though when you accidentally hide your keys for
6:04
instance your wallet for instance that's not real fun is it then I have to ask people to help panic button that be
6:10
pushed instantly right there where the hell did it go oh my God I hate that one my uh my lovely wife called me the other
6:18
day from uh her sister's place her sister and she said can you can you that
6:24
was good do you know I like yours better than his CU those was very good together boys and she did the old key thing like
6:29
that said uh um can you come and pick me up my sisters I says well I lost my keys
6:35
I don't know where my keys are so I get 95% there driving my truck up together
6:42
for her car with a spare key that she has and she calls me oh oh I well I heard the phone ring I saw it was her I
6:48
say oh okay you found him right yes yes we found him where are they well
6:53
shell has the same coat as me and she had to put her coat in the CL but it was my coat she put in the closet my her was
7:00
it out there oh my God have a nice day there honey okie dokie speaking of lost Keys oh my god oh
7:09
uh where was I Dave Fleming yes Dave via YouTube let's not I I didn't
7:14
forget him Dave Fleming in response to episode 155 how to make a fishing show
7:20
how did we get from how to make a fishing show to your wife losing your keys that's what I want it was a memory
7:25
thing it was all about memories then we got the keys and then not Memories memor M CU in my wife's conversation the mamor
7:32
kind of like it's a lost cause that Thanks for the Memories honey and I
7:38
have to read this next line from Dave Fleming he says great show guys obviously not this one maybe Dave's
7:45
entertain with this silliness uh so Dave Fleming says great show guys I enjoy the shows uh the most with just you guys
7:53
talking and explaining things uh sometimes when the biologists and the science guys well going to today uh are
8:02
on they're they get too technical LOL I enjoy the show the most with you to
8:10
anyway uh great info as always and I will be making it up to Canada soon
8:15
thanks uh again guys and keep up to great work where is he from he doesn't he's from the US well obviously he's duh
8:24
no he could there's like a million there's like a million other spots he could be he make it up
8:30
North Alles that are down Delo you
8:37
know the Baja Peninsula there's lots of Southern places down there that's interesting tell us when you guys write
8:43
these things in uh tell us where you from it be nice to to know yeah but it's
8:48
a great comment anyways thanks Dave that appreciate that we I mean we enjoy the shows too with ourselves but I mean I
8:56
really do like getting the low down on you know technicalities on fish finding on biology fish biology and all that
9:02
stuff and it helps us it opens our eyes up too so hopefully we can keep everybody happy like to me fish talk
9:07
with the dock is is golden we just keep wanting more and more more I do the whole show as fish talk with the do yeah
9:14
yeah that's okay but I can understand I can understand why people would say it's a little too uh technical out there yeah
9:20
that's cool we try and mix it up we do a little bit of everything oh yeah we're mixed up we're mixer ERS so there you go
9:28
uh thank you for the comment Dave from wherever you are from Dave from the south
9:33
from conservation Corner brought to you by the invasive species
9:38
Center the ten the beautiful and lovely tench as you see and the for those that
9:44
are watching YouTube right now as can see this very perch-like Critter up there except for that dorsal fin is not
9:50
a spiny it's kind of a soft but he's got a very perch Look to Him me that head especially the yellow per the eye the
9:56
head yeah uh which uh which fish are the we're going to say it's the tent already it's invaded almost every corner of the
10:02
planet aside from Antarctica and has caused notable damage in reasons where it has become prolific and that is the
10:08
tench of course it's a medium-sized deep body fish with small scales tiny scales as you can see on that picture again
10:14
that means you got to look at it on YouTube you should if you're listening only uh these striking olive color fish were brought into Canada illegally in
10:20
1986 that's a usual too they brought in illegally that seems to be a real ongoing issue see it seems like it's
10:27
almost the issue with fish be 1986 that's when we started I was trying to figure what the hell's 1986 see that
10:34
when they somebody said I'll get you guys you're going to and that was the birth of the fishing Canada show because
10:39
they they knew whoever that was that one day fishing Canada would be talking
10:45
about this their illegal introduction of that species of fish the tench to Canada
10:51
w wow not good not cool but here we go we we're giving him his attention that he wanted her whatever uh they are
10:57
highly adaptable uh to new environments that compete with Native fish like minnows in our case blue uh bluehead
11:04
suckers uh any anything that they uh cohabitate with they compete heavily and
11:10
in most cases will outdo um they eat significant amounts of snails insects and other Ben thick
11:19
invertebrates I'm going to learn that word one day I'm going to learn that I'm going to leave it for now you going to say just I don't need to know what that
11:25
is I just like the not only bottom oh dude you had to ruin a DE a bottom bottom
11:31
dwellers not only uh could they out compete native species for food but it
11:36
is predicted that tench could decrease water quality and increase the
11:42
transmission of different parasites and diseases between other fish in the great lak so they're a bit of a of a of a what
11:51
do you call it V Vector uh vector vector what's your vector vector as well yeah
11:59
this is why Ontario has made them a prohibited species under the invasive species act meaning it is illegal to
12:05
import possess transport or release them anywhere in the province that's the big one release them anywhere in the
12:11
province I mean I would think if they've been here since 1986 that that they should
12:17
be they should be there should be a few of them out there yeah never yeah no
12:24
we're not we don't put ourselves in country T we have to do that but you
12:29
think you know when you're back in the days when you're smelt fishing you're doing all that kind stff maybe we did
12:34
get some and we didn't know what we were maybe baby and that's the baby it's happening right now and that's why more
12:40
than anything else we need to arm ourselves with knowledge first of all we need to know what these things look like
12:48
because as we just mentioned great point because if we even though we're looking we're looking at that fish and we're thinking it's a a one pound or a 2 lb
12:54
what if it's a two incher right you know you're taking a look real close you got to say wait a minute that's not not a mud menal yeah you know uh you need to
13:02
uh arm yourself with all kinds of knowledge uh you can do that at the invasive species Center
13:08
website uh where I think they have a downloadable image that you can actually put on your phone your phone yeah and uh
13:15
you'd be good to go uh more importantly uh by having all this information you can help hopefully curve it certainly
13:23
not eradicated if it's been here since ' 86 but definitely that'd be a tough one but definitely get more more information
13:29
in the right hands of people by reporting uh sightings um to the invading species
13:36
hotline or online at Ed mapss that's maps with an s.com Ed do
13:44
anybody ever figure out what Ed Maps yeah we talked about it one time on show I know but I've forgotten already
13:50
refresh my I remember but I'd rather go back it was Ed's Maps but they just wanted to change it Ed brought them over
13:56
it was Ed's maps and he said here you guys can borrow my maps be good thanks Ed that's uh e d
14:04
maps.com and help keep our waterways free of Invaders very good in the news Mr Gman
14:13
damn T in the news Lake de Baker named
14:18
as top ice fishing destination in Canada this how does that happen I know this
14:23
has brought to us courtesy of Calvin pennel again we just mentioned Calvin not that long ago on the fishing can
14:28
thean page and Facebook fish from Canada fan page um this is from a uh a website
14:34
called fishing Booker it's an online platform for booking fishing trips I don't know uh where they're based out of
14:41
or not I I took a quick look at that before this and it does have some some good advice you know it came up to they
14:46
knew where I was it said the charters and whbe Charters and Pickering and all that stuff so it's it seems like a
14:51
decent website but how do they how do they determine how do they determine this that de Baker is is number one
14:59
fishing destination candidate I'm not to take anything away from De Baker I'm sure it's a wonderful fish exactly how
15:06
do I'm just curious how I'm looking at this list of there's nine Lakes we'll go through them but um well I'll go through
15:13
them right now Lake def Baker number one Cam Loops in BC is number two Lake Simco
15:18
in Ontario is number three LAX sampier in Quebec we remember that miss your W
15:24
first ranger boat in Canada there ever and Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba uh Gull
15:30
Lake Alberta Grand Lake New Brunswick Grand
15:36
Lake Newland Newland NL buddy NL Newland two Grand Lakes that's confusing okay
15:41
and Lake Georgia Nova Scotia how many round lakes are in the world yeah true true so and Gull Lakes Gull rivers and
15:48
Gull Lakes right but I'm I wonder yeah I mean we never even honestly I've never heard of half these leges no offense to
15:54
the provinces but I haven't heard of uh yeah I was wondering how they do it as well no Scotia how do you compare that
16:00
Lake George Nova Scotia over the Bay of quiny in Ontario I'm not I'm not going to say bay of Quint is better than all
16:05
but I mean there's a lot of people that catch a lot of fish in B Quinny right Lake nipping huge for fishing so I don't
16:11
know where they came up with they do and I know that like Lake Moka was on it last year we covered this story yeah we
16:17
kind of laughed at not laughed at we thought okay that's kind of so maybe it's like where people are traveling to
16:23
the most wait a minute hold it hold time out I like where going here call a time out I like where we're going here you
16:30
too just said you remember last year's version of this he reminded me of that I
16:37
I wouldn't remember because I was going to call immediately on that there's a bunch of thank you
16:43
you can do that because there's no way in hell that you remember from a year ago no you're right I wouldn't have
16:50
remembered unless until Dean reminded me then I thought hey we because we talked about this we said wait a second why is
16:55
that on that we did the same thing we did didn't we Dean be Dean where have to look 38 cameras
17:02
and then Deans over here you can't even remember where to look for God's sake I'll tell you what they said about Lake de and Baker here and I'm going to add
17:08
something in Lake de de and Baker species include giant walleye Pike perch white fish and even lake trout and
17:14
bouret during the winter months now what they in my mind forgot was rainbow trout
17:20
which I think is the biggest wow the most uh astounding fish species in Lake
17:26
deepen Baker these are are stock trout triy trout and they are gigantic from what I've ever seen and heard in history
17:33
they were like how' you make out there kid they were like big like I mean thick solid beautiful rainbows that the guys
17:40
are getting at night time and all that mostly through the Open Water but they are getting them through the ice too so I don't know if why they didn't include
17:46
that either that's just um we're not slagging you guys our fishing Booker we're just saying we'd like to know maybe a little more maybe we should get
17:52
them on a we uh podcast sometime I think they're robots ah see maybe that's it if
17:58
we could get one of uh the runners here today pick up my cup you what the hell the Cup's doing nothing down there it's
18:04
empty just leave it there it plays a very important role in the show I got
18:11
you well you pick I I got exactly like I have to think about that's the problem
18:16
in this show I'm going to get right up in the middle of the show I'm going to get that for you well you know what it' be the it's the least that you could do
18:26
actually it's the least you could do buddy it's the least I thank you very much while the
18:32
other people we'll get Nick to get it oh wait Nick's not here the other people are too busy look V's relaxed in this sh
18:40
like that that would have been a good move for vaa to do right there he should have said Mr don't Pete I'll get that
18:45
for you no it's not his his job description Steve was here I'll get that for you let me get that for you but he's
18:51
a nice guy exactly he would have done well he'd have waited till I got it and then he'd have said Peter I could have got that for him
18:59
a fed question of the week thank you Peter I will finish that that you might
19:04
need that later the show little there's a little bit there is yes we spilled a bit on the floor but uh Moni will get that cuz vva is not going to clean it up
19:11
I'll guarantee you well I doubt that very much I think we stand a better chance of uh becoming a a state yeah
19:21
better chance of Canada becoming a state exactly him getting off that chair God forbid you know it's not his job
19:27
description that was a big run for me to get over there you know that I'm kind of Blended but that's all right it was
19:33
first time you had some physical activity dur on yeah yeah actually I don't mind that yeah you might have to
19:39

19:44

22:03
feet together I've done I'm not proud of it I'm not proud of it Tang got a little
22:09
bit of kinky going on there at home not proud of it but uh B question of the week Mr that's
22:16
awesome this from Josh Everett wait a minute who's bringing it to you oh well
22:21
you're supposed to do that brought to you by fishfindermounts.com thank you very much Fishfinder mounts
22:30
.c established in 2012 by the way somebody asked me to day why they why' they call themselves
22:35
fishfindermounts.com I said well because that's what they do so I know but GM didn't call itself cars or
22:43
trucks made a good point and and they have the dotom in their name which is very rare right that you don't see that
22:49
too often but fish in Canada fish canada.com but so then I asked them how did you find them oh is I went to fish
22:56
Fishfinder mous.com brilliant it is it's brilliant anyways the question is
23:03
submitted by Josh Everett via YouTube oh so this so Josh might be eligible maybe
23:09
for okay this is this a qualifier D yeah it's qualif did he did he subscribe and
23:14
everything did okay Josh here we go here we go you want to tell folks what they have to do or do you want to do it after
23:20
you go ahead you can do it right now and then I'll go back questions because that's important because uh if you don't
23:25
we read this question but if you haven't complied with uh Dean Taylor's requirements then even though it could
23:32
be a wonderful question and we enjoy it and everything else we'd have to say x x
23:39
so what you need to do is uh go to YouTube you need to uh subscribe to this
23:46
YouTube channel you need to write a as a
23:52
thought-provoking question how's that thought-provoking question and the emphasis on question
23:59
I was going to say thought-provoking but that's okay no either one so now we're
24:04
now all of it is highlighted thought-provoking question yes question
24:09
mark does that have a question mark it does if you asked Mr Taylor about that that was a key to a couple other uh
24:17
possible questions and then not questions because that was it it was it wasn't a question it's his uh rule book
24:22
and he wrote it so and what what happens if they do this and they get selected what do they get I don't know we'll
24:30
see you get a 100 buckaroos that's what you get kitties 100 bucks 100 buckaroos
24:36
uh redeemable on the fishing Canada store for any of the goodies including
24:42
your Las Vegas Matt there whatever his name come in he's going to start going for that money now too he's going after everybody else's surpris good you too
24:49
can get one of these if you win uh this uh the trout that Pete eats I love that
24:54
fish man beautiful yeah it's a beautiful fish car on Mr the question again from Josh Everett via
25:01
YouTube Hey ANS and Pete what's the best piece of advice you've ever received or
25:08
a quote that you remember throughout your time with the fishing Canada
25:13
show that's a good one because that one that's one like uh an and I need a week to uh to prep for right because we got
25:19
to go through everything in our mind he doesn't say whether it was okay so he
25:26
says what's the best piece of a advice so that's ask what it was good
25:32
advice you've received or a quote that you remember throughout your time with
25:40
the fishing Canada show so I can I the latter I can do oh I know that one too I know the one you're going to say because
25:46
I got the same one that you do I'll let you take that one really yeah no okay no no I've got a
25:54
good one too okay go for it the quote the as far as the quote goes
25:59
this is something that somebody told me a long time ago ah right that I have uh
26:07
kept not constantly so I don't know this I'm not going to get the same one am I okay you will once I get going oh yeah
26:13
okay it came to me it was given to me at the ripe old age I think I was eight
26:18
what the okay we don't have the same one sister Mary rosilia oh my God after she
26:25
finished strapping me because I played hookie and got caught on yosua creck fishing for suckers strapping your socks
26:33
on or what she what do you mean she yeah she gave me the old whoopity Doo with the rubber uh strap and afterward she
26:40
said because i' had been caught fishing on the yosha creek many times that year and the year said there's no fish in
26:46
there Angela exactly what are you do wasting your time she said Viola cuz they called us by our last name back
26:52
then uh how many times good old Catholic way oh yeah they were the best they were the most brutal
26:59
I'm telling you I think nuns um we underutilize them and I and I apologize
27:06
if there's any nuns watching or listening to this back in the day back in the day I think we underutilize them
27:13
because I think they should have been used as military weapons I think we could have sent them overseas and to the
27:20
front lines to win Wars a they'd be going in like a SWAT team everybody oh my God they come come the nuns hide she
27:28
said to me Viola how many times do I have to tell you you're never going to make a living by fishing W there's a
27:34
quote and uh I have never forgotten those words wow go Sister Mary rosilia
27:40
God bless you take that Mary he showed you didn't he I'd love to i' I've said
27:46
this a million times I'd love to talk to her she's obviously passed away but I
27:52
would love to talk to her uh all these years later and uh the the one quote
27:57
that I remember since throughout my time with the fishing Canada show this is more literal is uh the slogan that you
28:04
and Reno made up catch your limit but limit your catch that's the one I think of the most and that and that it comes
28:10
so quickly to me still to this day I mean I heard it before I even started working with you guys when I back when I
28:16
knew you guys and uh I think it's it's still to this day is such a a strong
28:21
statement and uh catchy but when you really listen to it you say catch your limit but limit your catch hey you know
28:26
what that's that's pretty smart why have we not like we used it for about a decade bring it back on another on a
28:33
shirt on a hoodie oh my God the next a
28:39
sportsman show special that's a sportsman show special catch your limit but limit your catch oh my God by the
28:44
way I get two bucks on every one of those absolutely absolutely I'll give you two bucks no problem at all you I'm
28:51
going to say the advice thing I don't remember I've gotten so much advice
28:57
through throughout time and all that but I'll I'll give some advice that I've used on this and that I did it to myself
29:04
is that um if you want to learn something specific in fishing you need
29:10
to push everything else aside and I'll give you an example of that when I was very young fishing tournaments etc etc I
29:17
love throwing plastic worms and Jigs and I was all about slow fishing and all that and I used to get these stories of
29:24
guys kicking ARS on spinner baits uh all day long we C 30 40 fish and Mike burus
29:29
and I are an and I whatever come in with six we we got good ones but we didn't get 30 fish the day whatever so and
29:35
these guys were winning tournaments so I said well obviously there's something to spinner baits I got to learn how to use
29:41
it and they go out and throw it a few times then a I pick up my jig back to your old stuff I no jigs in the boat no
29:47
worms in the boat no nothing I went out and threw spinner baits spinner baits spinner baits for a season basically a
29:52
bass season and I got damn good with it I was very confident in it and I started to catch fish same thing now in this
29:57
modern day day with plastics I'm starting to use the free rig and stuff like that you but you have to concentrate on that you have to be able
30:03
to say to yourself the hardest one is is Glide baits and big swimbaits it's a hard one to say I'm going to use that
30:10
all day long when I know I can catch them on everything else that in my boat you know what I mean but if you can concentrate so hard on that and finally
30:17
you know learn you're going to learn through mistakes and read and YouTube and everything else but to me that's
30:23
I've given that myself that extra boost by just challenging myself I guess some
30:28
people might be listening to you right now and saying well okay let me see if I get your advice that you're giving me
30:34
right so you're telling me that I've got to put away my tried and true
30:41
presentation that I catch fish with all the time I got to put it away so I can try some different whacked out yes only
30:50
only presentation I don't even like no no if you want to I said that's the thing if you want to or need to I wanted
30:56
to learn because these guys were telling me they were catching 30 and 40 fish a day in a day and I was catching six fish in a day I'm saying okay I'm doing
31:02
something wrong if I'm catching three fish in a day and he's catching 35 fish in a day I'm doing something wrong on that same day that he's out there so
31:09
that was just me saying okay I got to get better at at something so you yourself yet another way to catch fish
31:17
and that's added to the Arsenal added to The Tackle Box ex the key is to be versatile I don't think there is a
31:24
fisherman out there that uh has is worth as weight her weight and has been
31:31
successful that is one-dimensional it just doesn't happen it's
31:36
impossible impossible so uh versatility and that's how you learn you put away
31:42
your stuff your comfort zone has to go I'm assuming that's in everything in life if you want to learn how to how to
31:49
throw a curve ball you got to stop throwing fast balls you know what I mean so whatever so all righty the main
31:55
segment of the show brought to you by sale The Outdoor Store sale and how
32:01
appropriate that they uh they bring going to work perfect for that as we mentioned at the beginning of the program uh this is going to be all about
32:09
you the audience going wow I did not know that uh before we get there though
32:15
uh visit a sales store in your area for all good things outdoors uh rods reels
32:20
clothing of course this time of year are we still in ice fishing season yeah we
32:25
sure are I was on the site this morning and just looking to see what's going on they got a great big orange flag there
32:31
it says sale 50% Plus off they got like 50 off plus 15 off on some of the stuff right now so they they do any more offs
32:38
they're going to they're going to ow losing money yeah okay here's your jacket sir here's 50 bucks thanks for coming in uh if you don't have a sale in
32:45
your neighborhood which is quite likely we do have one we're fortunate enough to have one just around the corner uh but
32:51
if you do not have one uh visit them at sale.ca for what's where Peter was he
32:56
just mentioned correct sale . CAA for all your outdoor goodies that's SS
33:03
a.ca well done Angelo now now they carry a lot of the stuff
33:10
that talk right now absolutely uh his name is Stephen Smith
33:15
uh my life Outdoors on YouTube is where he hangs out and lives and uh does very
33:22
well there in terms of audience great job uh focusing on backpacking gear offering insight tips you know all that
33:28
usual stuff but I think one of the really interesting things certainly what caught our attention uh was that he
33:35
sometimes does these downto Earth uh I don't know what you want to call them
33:40
exposes maybe on brands that we have been so familiar with and using for for
33:47
a number of years um still used still used exactly uh joining us now uh Steve
33:53
Smith how are you buddy doing good thanks for having me oh our wow you
33:59
knocked our socks off with this gortex thing man holy smokes I bet you've
34:04
knocked a lot of socks out with that and knocking a lot of jackets off with that probably right I'm ass yeah I'm sure I'm
34:10
sure we have good for you uh the one we're talking about is called your gear is poisoning you big exclamation mark
34:17
and the other one was the scam outdoor Brands don't want you to know uh both of them were almost three million views
34:25
million each wow fantastic woo so um first of all maybe you can give us a bit
34:31
of background on uh how you got into this this business and and what you
34:37
do well I guess what I do is I just I make videos that I find interesting that
34:43
I hope other people will find interesting and so um I'm a big outdoor Enthusiast uh I love hiking backpacking
34:51
camping um and a few other things skiing and and different stuff like that but um
34:57
back in uh well I mean it depends on how far you want to go back all the way back in 2009 I started a Blog and just
35:04
started kind of writing about uh outdoor activities I was doing Adventures uh did
35:09
a little bit of gear reviews and then fast forward 10 years later to 2019 I had a good buddy of mine that was
35:16
reading some of the stuff that I was writing and he was like Hey you know like you're a terrible
35:22
writer nice he was he was like you you should stop with this blog business and
35:29
you should make videos cuz see I'd made some videos for some other things before and he was like you're you're much
35:34
better making videos than you are writing and it's true I mean I've got dyslexia I I can't spell to save my life
35:41
and so I was like all right I'll I'll try and making some videos so I did started making videos started doing Gear
35:47
reviews got to a point where I I wanted to offer something more than just my
35:53
opinion on the gear that I was reviewing you know because it's really easy to say yeah well you can uh I mean this is good
35:59
or this is bad because because I like it or I don't like it but I wanted to offer something a little more than that and so
36:05
I started trying to do a little more scientific based testing of the gear and
36:10
found out about posos that we're going to be talking about today and decided that I wanted to find out how prevalent
36:18
is posos what is it doing and so did some testing and um so made some
36:24
discoveries first off is are you paying your buddy a little bit of commission he put you in the right direction obviously
36:29
I think he owes a he owe him a little bit of money at least so I I'm sending him some uh some outdoor gear from from
36:35
time to time I would imagine um do you have
36:41
any you mentioned you started using science a little bit more uh as you did
36:46
these reviews do you have any background in that area at all like do you are you a bit of a a scientist nerd at heart or
36:55
I it's probably more the latter I mean I certainly have any like formal training in in Sciences um but um I've always
37:03
loved science um I've always loved like evidence-based type stuff grew up watching The MythBusters and you know
37:10
well I guess I didn't technically grow up but I guess I I I matured in my adult life watching The MythBusters you know
37:17
and the scientific approach that they took the kind of like backyard scientific approach that they took and
37:23
and that had a big influence on me and in the way that I wanted to approach the
37:29
videos that I was making wow well and you've never worked in the clothing industry or anything like that and the
37:35
in the gortex industry or anything like that in the past I I have not I I am not
37:40
an expert and so we should probably just get that out there I'm I'm just a guy with a camera right up and and a guy who
37:46
uses this stuff in the outdoors that's probably the most important thing that you bring to the table I I used to tell
37:51
my customers all the time I was in the retail business selling this stuff for years AG you know it's people who use
37:58
this stuff that sometimes know more than the people who are making it because the
38:03
quite honestly and I know a couple and so does Pete uh big time um clothing uh
38:11
manufacturers and Distributors and they know their business but they don't know
38:16
the outdoors right so people like you that use the stuff and you sleep in it and you live in it you eat in it and you
38:23
you know you get the good days and the bad days in the outdoors all with this this clothing you guys are the experts I
38:30
mean let's be honest about it you know science are not you guys are the experts you know what's what feels good you know
38:35
what's cold what you know what's waterproof you know what's not waterproof you know all that stuff you practical versus Theory exactly stuff
38:42
that wears doesn't wear I mean it's all there um on the other hand of we have
38:48
been using gortex in our careers and both our business life and our personal
38:54
life since I don't know when since it was in yeah since it was invented for sure and and we you to this day until we
39:01
saw Steven Stu to this day we still you know swear by it it keeps us dry it's supposed to breathe etc etc so yeah we
39:08
you know so let's get right to that can we uh let's talk about the uh now gortex
39:14
is a is the brand is the membrane right um this uh posos situation is not
39:23
something that just exists within the gortex world it's any body that's using that product right in making it
39:30
waterproof that's correct yeah yeah and so up until um well just recently almost
39:38
well I shouldn't say that there are a lot of different brands that are making um posos based or or
39:44
ppfe um is what it's called and that's what they're using to make their membranes there are other membranes that
39:50
have been used and some of those were used by other brands uh there was an expanded polyurethane or something like
39:56
that it's e is what they refer to it as and they were using that because for a long time gortex had the patent on the
40:04
etfe which was the posos based membrane and so there's just because there just
40:11
because it has a membrane doesn't necessarily mean it has posos but the real kicker is that if it has dwr or a
40:18
durable water repellent finish it is most likely using posos to achieve that
40:23
that dwr so the membrane that we're alluding to to in most cases that's an
40:30
an inner layer of the Garment and then on top of that you've got the exterior
40:36
which we all look at and think you know we say oh that's cortex no it's not it's an exterior skin now the
40:43
posos is that on the outside on that exterior skin or is it inside in the
40:50
membrane it's both if if the membrane is using etfe which is what gortex has been
40:55
pretty much since its invention um is etfe that is that is a posos base
41:02
fluoropolymer is what it is and that's the that's the thing that that gortex has said is very stable and for the most
41:08
part I I think that it is very stable based on what I'm reading and researching and all that kind of stuff
41:13
but in order for that membrane or any membrane to to function the way that
41:19
it's marketed it has to have a dwr coding on the outside because um and so
41:26
the dwr coating whenever you get your jacket wet that's what makes it beat up you know so you see the water kind of beat up almost like a like a well waxed
41:33
car or something like that and if it doesn't beat up like that it kind of soaks into the outer layer so most rain
41:40
jackets are sandwiched you know the the membrane the the waterproof membrane is sandwiched between two other pieces of
41:47
material and so that outer material soaks in water it can't get through the membrane but it can soak into that outer
41:53
water into that outer layer and if that gets saturated it can't breathe the membrane can't let
42:00
any water out because humidity essentially immediately goes up to 100% And once humidity is up to 100% you're
42:07
not going to get any evaporation at all okay so what about those sprays we spray our jacket when when it starts to lose
42:14
the beating we spray our Jack are they toxic or there anything of those that are that are bad or is that something
42:19
totally different it depends on who you use so Nick Wax if Nick Wax I think is the most um prevalent out there that
42:25
people use it is it's good and so they have not used POS since the beginning of
42:31
the company so from the very beginning of the company I can't remember the the name of the guy that started that but he
42:37
he started looking at all this stuff and he's like I don't like the idea of these chemicals before long before we even
42:44
knew that anything bad was happening with them he said I don't like the idea of these chemicals and so he started looking for a different way to um to
42:51
make his formula and I'm not exactly sure what's in that formula and I'm not sure if there's other concerns are not
42:57
with that formula but I know that that the Nick Wax formula does not contain posos and never has okay Sal s is that
43:04
by the way yeah the other one U that I use I thinker you know that one I don't know
43:11
anything about Granger okay yeah um okay so aside from
43:18
gortex which is the brand that we all recognize as being waterproof
43:24
breathable uh in the business uh are there other brands that are using this stuff as well that we should be aware of
43:30
oh yeah for sure I I mean pretty much anything that is touting as water or oil
43:36
proof um is probably using some sort of posos I mean it's it's in all kinds of
43:42
stuff not just an outdoor Brands um you're talking about I mean we're talking about dental floss um it's made
43:47
out of posos we're talking about the tape that they put around um the plumbing to try to you know seal the the
43:54
seals on your on your plug yeah the Teflon tape yeah Teflon um cooking pants that's made out of Posas it's the same
44:00
stuff so I mean gortex is just expanded P Teflon that's what the E stands for in
44:06
the PTFE the efe so so I mean it's it's in firefighting Foams it's all over the
44:11
place if it's been used it's the use is obviously widespread why is it that now all of a
44:18
sudden it's an issue I mean I'm I'm assuming all of these different applications for uh posos have all been
44:26
tested and I'm I would imagine they all had to go through a rigorous process to
44:32
get approved and the jurisdictions that they're being sold in I would think but
44:38
that's not the case um so as far as I understand um and I and I admit that I
44:43
could be wrong in this but as far as I understand it's not that they get approved to be sold it's that they get
44:50
um what's the word I'm looking for they they find out that they're toxic and then they ban them and so and once they
44:56
get banned and because some because testing has been being done um they come up with a different and So like um
45:02
different poses some of the most toxic ones were are what we called Eight chain
45:08
um floral polymer compounds and they started to figure out that those were super toxic and people in the plants
45:14
were making them were getting very very sick there was this whole big cover up by um Dupont who originally invented um
45:21
posos and and PTFE and the what ended up happening
45:27
was a farmer who was very near to the camp or very near to the plant all of his cows died and he got a lawyer
45:33
involved that started working pro bono and they found out this big cover up that they had known since the early
45:39
1970s that this stuff was harming their employees and harming the uh the communities around them covering it up
45:46
so they they made moves to ban it and then they moved to what we know as a six chain uh fluoropolymer compound so they
45:54
they took off two of the floral polymer not the floral polymer they took off two of the the carbon Florine Bonds on the
46:01
chain and it still was doing pretty much what it was doing before it was just a
46:06
different chemical compound and so they were like okay well you ban that one we're going to make this one and then
46:12
they banned that one and was okay we're going to make that one and they just kept changing the formula just slightly
46:17
as people started studying them and it takes years and years and years to study each one of these and as as of right now
46:24
we have somewhere between 10 to 15,00 thousand variations of these posos chemicals but
46:31
we've only studied around I I don't know the exact number but we we have
46:37
regulations on about 25 to 30 of them out of 10 to 15,000 oh my God here's a
46:44
question for you now with this posos in uh Teflon pans you said DL floss you
46:52
said and of course the jackets and all that just as us as humans is it we when
46:58
we touch it when we floss our teeth uh we cook our food is this stuff getting
47:03
into our systems like when you touch your jacket like that is it is it dangerous to touch your
47:09
jacket I I don't know that it's dangerous to touch your jacket I don't know that that's the harm the harm is
47:14
that it's shedding off of the jacket it's shedding off of um your your cooking surfaces it's shedding off of
47:20
these firefighting Foams and it's getting into water sources and the problem with these chemicals the things
47:26
that make them make them so good at what they do and they're they're really really good at what they do is that they
47:32
they essentially never break down they're what is known as a forever chemical and so never you know is is a
47:38
relative term so it actually takes around a thousand years for them to break down naturally but that means that
47:44
once they get into the water sources once they get into your bloodstream once they get into the environment they they never go away and they're biou
47:51
cumulative which means that they just start building up inside those sources and so because they never go away more
47:58
keeps getting in there more keeps getting in there the concentrations keep getting higher and higher and higher and
48:03
that's the problem and so even the test that I did you know I mean the the amounts that I was measuring I mean these are very very small minuscule
48:11
amounts and and that's that's not necessarily the the problem the problem is that it's going to continue to build
48:18
the more that we use these chemicals the more that these chemicals are just going to build up and build up and build up
48:23
and build up until they are points that it's it's a huge concern okay what uh does it manifest
48:30
itself into so let it gets into our water table and then we consume it what
48:36
happens to us at that point so Studies have shown and again we haven't studied all of the different
48:43
posos um chemical compounds but from the ones that we have studied um we have found that there are connections to
48:50
liver kidney and thyroid damage that there are immune and nervous system damage that there are productive and um
48:58
developmental problems that um there's metabolism and body weight issues that
49:03
there are cancer causing compounds associated with this and so pretty much
49:09
all the the posos chemicals that that people have studied they have found reasons to suggest that they are that
49:16
they are contributing to some of these health issues and these are health issues that that millions of people
49:21
every day are dealing with and and probably have no idea why all of a sudden they've just developed you know
49:27
some sort of liver issue or kidney disease or thyroid problem um and they just they just think well you know I
49:33
just did but probably a big part of it is the fact that it's in their drinking water it's in their dental floss it's in
49:39
the pans that they've been cooking with it's in all these things that we use on a on a daily basis it's in food
49:45
packaging it's in all kinds of different things that we food packaging oh my God
49:51
yeah that it's crazy and and and they do that they do that with the food packaging because a lot of foods greasy
49:57
and oily andos is really good at at repelling grease and oil and so they
50:02
line the packaging with that so that the packaging doesn't get soaked up with the grease wow it's on our food is there
50:08
okay now let's I maybe this is too soon in this conversation but I'm wondering is there anything out now I'm I'm sure
50:14
there's companies working on an alternative to G gortex that is as good as but without peos is there anything
50:21
out there yet yes and so that that expanded poly the I can't remember the
50:26
exactly what it stands for but it's the epe membrane um and that's and gortex
50:31
now is producing an EP membrane they just started at the end of last year
50:37
producing an epe membrane and part of that is because um California which is the the fifth largest economy in the
50:43
world and the state of New York the state of Maine um I'm not exactly sure what's what's going on in Canada I know
50:49
that Canada has made some some moves to regulate pasos and drinking water but as far as in textiles you know so Canada
50:56
Maine New York and a handful of other states have started making moves to ban posos in those textiles and um REI which
51:06
in the United States is a huge you know Outdoor Retailer they have said that they are no longer going to sell um gear
51:13
and garments of posos and so that has kind of forced the hand of gortex yeah
51:19
to say okay we're going to we're going to come out with an alternative it doesn't mean that they're going to stop
51:24
producing or making the membranes that do have the P chemicals but they are at least providing Alternatives so that
51:31
they can continue to make sales in those areas with those restrictions is that the first um retailer to make that
51:38
announcement in the US um I I don't know that for sure I know that they did make that
51:43
announcement and that it went into effect at the end of 2024 and so basically starting with 2025 all their
51:50
gear is posos free if it's being if if it's being uh sold inside REI and so I
51:56
don't know other retailers have done that or not um but and I know that even REI had to be pressured into it and so
52:03
there was a there was a group of activists and you know and and concerned people that uh that put a lot of
52:08
pressure on them to opt out of these chemicals are you an activist I mean I don't know that I
52:15
would consider myself an activist um I am someone who is wanting
52:23
to support people in the outdoors and and and and help them make good informed
52:29
decisions on the products that they are buying um it was people in my comment sections the first put me on to the
52:35
posos in DWS and other things and know some other videos that I was making and I was just talking about dwr and and
52:42
treating your jackets and how important that was and people were like yeah but you need to be concerned about posos and I'm like what is what is posos and so I
52:50
started looking into it started learning more about it learned that it is in all
52:55
these different or or that is um reportedly in all these different water sources and that made me curious and so
53:01
I thought um and I I'm also kind of a person that I want to find out for myself right and so I I was like well if
53:07
it really is in all these different water sources I want to go find out and
53:13
so I contacted a lab found somebody that would do the testing for me decided I was going to go out take the water
53:18
samples of the different water sources and find out is it really in all these water sources water sources that that
53:25
shouldn't have anything because they're so far away from Human civilization um and then during that process of of kind
53:32
of going through that the lab was telling me that you got to be careful the way that you that you take the
53:38
samples because it sheds off the clothing you know it's all in our clothing and sheding off the clothing and you can contaminate your sources
53:44
with the clothing that you're wearing and so I started looking for posos free clothing and then that's when I found
53:50
out that FAL Raven which is one of the big manufacturers who's making posos
53:56
free gear um whenever I contacted them and and started you know figuring out what I was going to use for the video
54:02
they said we want to be careful we're not posos free we don't intentionally
54:07
use posos and and I got a chance to talk with the CEO recently after this video
54:12
came out I got a chance to talk with the CEO of FAL Raven and he told me that the Green Piece over in Europe started doing
54:19
some things where they were just pulling garments off the shelves of retail stores and testing them especially
54:25
garments that were saying posos free and testing them to find out if they truly were and um FAL Raven had done all these
54:32
moves and all these measures of trying to make this posos free gear and then Greenpeace came back and said no you still got posos in your gear and the CEO
54:40
was telling me that they they started scrambling because they're like what happened where did it come from you know all this kind of different stuff and
54:46
what it ended up being he told me was that their jackets were being were on
54:52
the Shelf next to some gortex jackets and it was rubbing off the gortex
54:58
jackets onto their garments there you go like I said you touching it yeah and so
55:03
I I learned this through the process of trying to find this posos free gear and that's what made me think it's it's
55:10
actively coming off of this off these products and so I wanted I wanted to find out for myself and so I I built a
55:17
little rain chamber I put a gortex jacket in there that was great by the way that testing that's so fantastic
55:24
blew me away I got to ask yeah how much money has it cost you cuz you got more
55:29
than one experiment going on you build all these crazy little things they're awesome how much money you put
55:35
into that do you think well I mean it depends so for the gortex video the biggest expense on the
55:40
gortex video was the testing itself so it costs about $600 to ,000 us per test
55:48
to do the posos testing it's very very expensive right and so I did how many tests did I do I did um four in the
55:55
field and I did two on the jacket and so I did a total of six different tests um
56:00
for that video plus I built the rain chamber and and all that kind of stuff and so I I put uh
56:07
probably I don't know between five and $10,000 into that video trying trying to produce it and uh and again not because
56:15
like I did not expect to make that back necessarily um I originally had a sponsor that was helping me with that
56:22
but they they decided they didn't want to be a part of it whenever whenever the the actual content of the video came
56:28
together they were like uh we don't we don't want to be associated with this so they backed out I was going to say are
56:34
you being approached Now by companies who you know have taken the high road in this whole um process the uh PF a p p um
56:47
are you being approached by these companies now saying hey hey uh can you redo us cuz look we're we're we're clean
56:54
now and and we don't want our name being being tarnished anymore you know so I I haven't been
56:59
approached by specific companies saying that we want to be retested necessarily
57:05
um and so but you know but I am curious about that and and the and the biggest hindrance to doing that is the cost of
57:12
the testing you know so I've gotten a lot of requests from viewers saying you know like oh well can you test this or can you test that you know hey well do
57:18
it again but do this you know and I'm like I'd really like to but you know every time that I do that you know
57:25
I got I got to make sure I'm not losing money at least every time I make a video like this is it safe to say that this
57:30
has been your most uh obviously I won't call it lucrative but your most
57:36
successful you've done a a couple hundred videos now right and would this be your most successful two videos the
57:43
ones that we're talking about well I mean so I mean if you if you count it specifically by by views no I've got
57:50
I've got a couple videos that have larger views than that but they've also been around longer and so they've had more time to build up those use um so
57:57
this there's a handful of videos that I've done that have become kind of these like little passion projects for me and
58:03
um and and when that happens they I invest a lot of time and money into them
58:09
and mo most of the time when I invest time of money into a video I don't
58:14
recoup it it doesn't do as well as I want it to do um and this this video was the first one that I put this much time
58:21
and money into it and it it actually started doing performing really well and
58:27
so I uh I I was pleased with that at least and so I I think at this point with the with the success of the video I
58:33
think I have made back my money on that and at least broken even if if not having earned a little bit that's why I
58:40
asked to the audience listening that's why I asked even about the money put in because you you really should go and look at these videos because you see the
58:47
the setups that he's got these testing devices that he builds and and creates it's very interesting and you can tell
58:52
is passionate about it and obviously the stuff is it's seems to be working you know for you your results it seems to be
58:58
working right so but it's really neat to watch people should check it out are you doing your own production yes yeah I do I do basically
59:06
everything myself I I write film edit all that myself I've got I got an assistant that helps me with emails and
59:13
I've got a uh a couple guys that are helping bring in sponsorships but other
59:19
than that as far as the production of the videos it's all me it's excellent I got one more question for you Stephen on
59:24
one of your videos I was watching it an alternative I think it was an alternative you're wearing a a Colombia
59:29
was a a greenish jacket or green I mean it was really it looked like it was stuck to your skin almost it looked like
59:34
it was the the way it should be was that waterproof in that like it looked you were to make it sound like it's waterproof but to me I'm looking at
59:40
saying this guy's soaked underneath that yeah so that that video what I was
59:46
trying to talk about was I'm trying to talk about that that breathable membranes in general have a lot of science going against them for them to
59:53
work and and part of the problem is that when you have rain whenever rain is falling you have quite a bit of humidity
1:00:00
in the air and in order for water to evaporate there needs to be room in the
1:00:06
air to accept more water and if you get close if you get really high humidity
1:00:11
all the way up to 100% humidity there's no room the the W the air is completely saturated with water and so evaporation
1:00:19
is just not going to happen and you're not going to get breathability without evaporation and so it doesn't matter
1:00:25
what the technology is if it says that it's waterproof and breathable it can't
1:00:31
do both of those at the same time it can be breathable and it can be waterproof
1:00:36
but it can't be waterproof and breathable at the exact same time and so it's kind of a little bit of a
1:00:42
misleading marketing and in that particular jacket one of the reasons why I started working on that video was
1:00:49
because we talked about the dwr coding earlier in the video and that the
1:00:55
breathable membranes need that dwr coding in order to work properly that jacket is a technology that has
1:01:01
eliminated the need for the dwr coating because the membrane is the outer layer
1:01:08
they haven't sandwiched it between two um pieces of material it is the outer layer what you're looking at is the
1:01:14
membrane itself and so it doesn't need the dwr because the membrane is waterproof but it's still has the
1:01:20
problem and I think a lot of people got misled in that video thinking that I was saying this jacket works and this one
1:01:26
doesn't what I was really saying is none of these jaggets work wow okay I got you I got you it's a
1:01:34
fascinating subject and I'm sure you could do part two three four and five of that video if you wanted to uh is that
1:01:41
something that you're looking at are are you looking at uh continuing down that
1:01:46
road you know so I mean I've got lots of different ideas lots of different videos that I want to make um I haven't
1:01:51
specifically thought about following up that video I am doing a posos followup video and so um one of the things that I
1:01:58
had a lot of comments asking was okay but now what do we do you know so we if we have this gear what do we do with it
1:02:04
if it's in our drinking water what do we do with it if it's in our blood what do we do with it and so I'm doing a followup to that I had several people
1:02:10
say that if if you have your blood tested and you find out that you got high levels of posos in your blood the one of the ways to get rid of it is to
1:02:17
donate um plasma and that by domaining plasma you I don't know this for sure um
1:02:24
but it as I'm saying it right now out loud it seems like you might be donating your posos I don't know right that's
1:02:30
what I was going to say so you get rid of it give it to somebody else you get the good stuff and you're off off it's a
1:02:37
good deal I think that's thing the plasma regenerates and it regenerates without peos and so I'm going to do some
1:02:43
testing I've got a uh a lab that's going to do some blood testing for me and I'm going to test my blood before see what
1:02:49
my posos levels are I'm going to go donate some plasma test it after see if my posos levels go down and so to who do
1:02:56
we owe uh this whole Madness uh the posos who who who came up with it what
1:03:03
what industry originally because there's always I know in fishing line for example you know monofilament line it
1:03:09
came from the surgical industry and then it sort of got moved around and ended up in fishing where did uh P start like
1:03:18
what did we build it for and who did it and who did it Dupont was the was the
1:03:23
company that originally discovered posos it was actually an accident that they made they were trying to do something
1:03:29
else um one of the scientists one of the the chemists spilt some of it on his shoe and then he noticed that his shoe
1:03:36
was repelling water and so he was like hey what's going on here discovered um PTFE or or posos and
1:03:46
so they're the ones that originally first started making it marketing it and producing it and they are also the ones
1:03:53
that that did a huge cover up um they started finding all these issues with
1:03:58
their employees they started removing women off of the off of the production lines because they were finding out that
1:04:04
some of the women that had been working with this their their children were being born with defects and and so they
1:04:09
had all there's there's tons of information that has been released now about all the stuff that was going on in
1:04:16
the 60s and 70s when they were first doing this and and Dupont knew about it the entire time there's a wonderful
1:04:22
movie um called Dark Waters the if you go watch dark Waters it's all it's based
1:04:28
on the true story it's based on how they found out that this was happening and the farmer who had the cows that died
1:04:34
and he was just like something's something's happening with the plant next door and and it all came unraveling
1:04:40
where was this plant what state was it oh goodness I don't I don't
1:04:45
remember if I if I tell you I'm going to be wrong um but I want to say it was
1:04:51
Michigan okay interesting yeah wow I I don't know that's if that's right or not
1:04:58
um to say that you have certainly peaked our interests we're going to have to rethink this whole waterproof uh garment
1:05:06
thing I mean we we live in it we live in it we literally live in it right uh in
1:05:12
our business so we're going to have to we we don't even wear we it could be a totally rain-free day but if it's cool
1:05:17
out we put it on as our shell our odor shell right so we use it all the time basically wow wow um are you at Liberty
1:05:27
to give us an indication of what garments what brands are out there that
1:05:33
are free of uh toxins oh yeah yeah for sure so I you know I can't remember off
1:05:39
the top of my head FAL Raven is the brand that I that I went to to try to um get all my rain gear and clothing and
1:05:46
stuff like that a lot of brands are moving that that way has been making yep
1:05:52
yeah so sorry yeah Keen shoes has been making posos free shoes for for very long time those are the shoes that I was
1:05:58
making uh in the description of the video um about I've got a long list of
1:06:04
brands that have at least made at least some products that are pasos free others have made a commitment to take their
1:06:10
entire line posos free and so there there are a lot of Brands out there and as um regulations and and retailers and
1:06:18
other things start making rules against posos there are a lot more brands that are saying okay hey we gota we got to
1:06:23
figure something out and obviously the ideal scenario would be that these
1:06:28
Brands you know AR t comes into mind because I know you use that and so do we
1:06:34
um the obviously the the perfect world would have those companies going to the
1:06:40
manufacturers and saying hey you want to stick with us and you want our brand on
1:06:45
your garments uh get rid of anything that uh yeah and so that's the other
1:06:51
problem is that um and that's something that F Hall rafen has told me is they they have a problem with the machinery
1:06:57
and so if if a piece of Machinery is used to make something with posos and then you turn around a day later and
1:07:04
start making another garment that's posos free the Machinery can can contaminate the the new posos free
1:07:10
material and a lot of these industrial machineries they use posos as lubricants
1:07:15
because because it's such a good lubricant again you know repels the oil and all that kind of stuff and so
1:07:21
they're using it as lubricant to make these machines run appropriately properly and so um I mean it's just
1:07:28
getting away from it at at this point is going to be a very very long journey yeah no kidding crazy crazy uh
1:07:37
fascinating subject Stephen appreciate you taking the time uh to come and see us the the two videos that caught our
1:07:44
interest uh your gear is poisoning you on YouTube and the scam outdoor Brands
1:07:50
don't want you to know um are both must abs absolutely
1:07:56

1:08:26
grab that up while you're at it um Stephen thank you so much uh any other
1:08:32
areas that people can get a hold of you and uh contact you yeah you know I'm I'm

1:09:09
put on garbage bags we'll just wear garbage bags in the fishing Canada show no I'm serious now what do we do with
1:09:14
all that expensive clothing I mean I know well in the in the as of now we got to start looking
1:09:21
for an alternative I think you know what I mean see if we can find something that's Voss free there's a there's
1:09:27

1:09:35
nikwax is the one company he talked about yeah protect Shield p r t x protect Shield North Face future light
1:09:43

we have to ask we're going to send him a copy of this uh this video so um that are it I mean there you go gortex is uh
1:10:19
no longer the bright shiny star that we in the outdoors have all uh and we've
1:10:25
all been promoting the hell out of it hell yeah pushing it because it is work it does what it says waterproof and
1:10:32
breathable y that's all we need right but uh now we uh have to change
1:10:37
directions it's funny it's just not outlawed just like that's it there you
1:10:42
can't use posos anymore because it sounds like it's in everywhere it sounds like it's used everywhere so all righty
1:10:50
uh I want to remind folks the we do not uh in our contest uh give away anything
1:10:56
