Hiya folks,

Crankbaits are one of the best baits you can throw for just about everything that swims.

But anglers make a mistake when they choose their crankbaits. Let’s say they’re fishing in ten feet of water. They’ll pick a crankbait that runs ten feet deep. It kind of makes sense—but it doesn’t.

What you always want to do is pick a crankbait that runs two, three, even five feet deeper than the area you’re fishing. That way, when you make your casts, the bait will run down quickly into that strike zone and it’ll stay there for the maximum amount of time. But more importantly, it’ll grind into the bottom. It’ll bang off rocks, ricochet off logs, and it’ll create that reaction strike that crankbaits are famous for.
