Fish Talk – Let Them Bite

Hiya folks,

I just pulled up on shore here because something unique happened. Well, actually not that unique. I’m sure it’s happened to all of us.

I was out fishing here for Smallmouth Bass, made a cast out with the topwater lure, I leaned over—put my rod down, actually—to get a cool drink, surface explosion!

I grabbed the rod and hooked a beautiful Smallmouth Bass. What the fish are telling you when they do that—whether you’re casting a topwater or a jig or a worm that just falls down to the bottom—is that they’re feeding naturally, instinctively. Far too often, we power fish, throwing big crankbaits,
spinner baits, buzz baits, those sorts of things, and we’re looking for the reaction bite.

If the reaction bite isn’t going, throw out a much subtler bait. Let it sit there to drive the fish crazy and you’re gonna catch more than you ever anticipated.

Happy Fish’n,Gord “The Doc” Pyzer
