Did you know that Ontario fisheries management has grown by leaps and bounds over the years? The philosophy is quite simple, return or add fish to the water and that fishery will be sustained for years to come.
When it comes to fish stocking programs, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry aren’t alone. Many lodges and even fishing clubs are teaming up with the ministry to help upgrade and maintain our fantastic fisheries.
Please take note, in Ontario it’s illegal for the general public to transport live game-fish or operate a fish stocking program without the approval of the MNRF.
One of Ontario’s biggest success stories is Hawk Lake Lodge. They implement it in a 100% catch and release policy. And get this, their shore lunch fish are imported from Manitoba. The resulting fishery has never been better!
Although you aren’t likely to create a fish stocking program, what you can do is practice catch and release to help ensure the future of great fishing.
Just another reason to Go Fish In Ontario!
