Lake Diefenbaker has been recognized by FishingBooker.com as one of the best ice fishing destinations in the country for 2025, making it the only Saskatchewan location on the national list. According to the SaskToday report, the lake’s vast shoreline, multiple entry points, and ample boat launches and campgrounds create excellent conditions for ice fishing.
Vanja Polovina, speaking for FishingBooker, highlighted that anglers can expect to catch a variety of species during the winter months—including giant walleye, pike, perch, whitefish, lake trout, and even burbot, with burbot fishing after dark offering a unique challenge. The selection process for the list considered factors such as fish quality, accessibility, surrounding recreational opportunities, and feedback from government tourism boards and customer reviews.
With ice fishing already underway, this national accolade is expected to boost local interest and tourism, as anglers flock to Lake Diefenbaker in search of record-breaking catches.
