Did you know that lake spawning Brook Trout are only found in a small number of lakes around the world?
Algonquin Park has one of the largest groups of naturally
self-sustaining Brook Trout lakes on the planet. There are about 250 known lakes
within the park that have this unique genetic diversity and variation.
Brook Trout lakes are symbolic with wilderness. The purity of the water in these small headwater lakes is a sign of a healthy ecosystem. And although these lakes are
sensitive to human disturbance and introductions of non-native species, proper management allows them to thrive.
Each year thousands of fishermen travel to Algonquin Park in search of
some of the best Brook Trout fishing in the world.
