There are few guarantees in fishing, but here’s one of them: Buy yourself a little pan file, a little diamond file like the one I’ve got, and every time you catch a fish just touch up the point on your hook. When you buy a brand new hook—I don’t care how brand new it is— always just rub the file two or three times on that hook and you’ll put a razor-sharp edge on it.

You do that after every time you catch a fish this year, every time you bump against a rock or a log, and you will amaze yourself how many more fish you catch.

It’s gonna cost you about five dollars but you’re gonna double, triple, quadruple the number of fish you catch just from that one simple little investment.
