The first episode follows the lifecycle of our “hero” species, the lake whitefish, with never-before seen footage of spawning, eggs hatching, baby fish struggling to find food, and adult fish trying to survive in an ecosystem totally transformed by invasive mussels. We join the scientists who are studying how mussels have completely changed the way the Great Lakes work, re-ordered the food web, and made the lakes about three times clearer.
