Yesterday, January 13th, 2022, New Hampshire angler, Ryan Scott Ashely landed a massive Burbot through the ice that now holds the state record.
According to New Hampshire Fish and Game (via Facebook), the fish weighed in at a whopping 12lbs 8.48 ounces and measured 35 inches long.
So, you may be asking, “how does this stack up to our Canadian fish?”
Well, in Ontario, 2017 saw a 39 inch long, 19-inch girth, 18.3-pound monster pulled in by Lake Simcoe angler Sebastian Roy.
Just a year before that, Landan Brochu, a Thunder Bay resident landed his 16.8 pounder near Nipigon, Ontario.
And to take the cake…
Sean Konrad, a Saskatchewan native, landed an unheard-of 25.2-pound Burbot on Lake Diefenbaker in Saskatchewan back in 2010.
