Lake Temiskaming, Temiskaming Shores
Lake Temiskaming is a giant of a lake. Its total length is over 100 kilometres. It spans all the way from the town of Temiskaming Shores to the headwaters of the Ottawa River. It is also one of Ontario’s best “unknown” Walleye factories. Unknown, at least, to many anglers from the South looking for a northern fishing adventure. There are so many Walleye here that it would blow your mind. If it is big fish you want, they are here as well.
Good buddy John Blanchard has been a long-time resident of this area and now lives near the town of Temiskaming Shores (formerly known as New Liskeard, since amalgamated with the town of Haileybury and the township of Dymond in 2004). John has fished this area for many years, so his recommendation for this spot comes from genuine experience. He suggests the waterfront area for Walleye, Sauger, Smallmouth Bass, Pike, Catfish and Perch.
He says there is access at both marinas along the break walls as well as public access at the boat launch and along the shore at the mouth of the Wabi Creek.
If you want a little “fishing from the boat” entertainment, John and I shot a Fish’n Canada episode on Temiskaming a while back with excellent results.
