I want to talk about night and day changes. And what I mean by that is making very subtle differences or changes to your retrieve speed based on the time of day.

I might be fishing for Walleyes, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, muskies—really doesn’t matter. During the day, under high-light conditions like this, I want to make my bait look like a dying baitfish. I’m gonna fish it fairly aggressively and really erratically back and forth, trying to get that reaction bite.

Now, same lake, same fish, same day, but early morning and late in the evening, maybe even in the dark? When you’re fishing in those low-light conditions, you actually slow down. Make it a little easier for the fish to get in behind and track your bait. Fish it much more deliberately, much more slowly, and much less erratically, and the differences are like night and day.
