Fish Talk – Jumping Fish

Hiya folks,

The most exciting moment in all of fishing is when that fish comes out of the water. Whether it’s a big Salmon, a muskie, or a Smallmouth Bass—any kind of fish—and they jump.

But then all of a sudden you realize: Hey, I want to land this fish! If you really want to land that big trophy that’s jumping, get it back down under the water, keep it under the water, don’t let it jump. And the best way to do that is to keep your rod tip low.

If you have your rod tip high, you’re pulling it up. Always keep it low. Try to pull it back under the surface. Keep constant tension, reel as quickly as possible. In fact, what I would suggest you do is watch a couple of the tournament anglers. How they fish in a tournament when that Bass starts to leap, they start reeling quickly, pull down, and they land the vast majority of the fish they hook.
