Fish Talk – Ninety Percent Rule

Hiya folks,

I want to talk today about “The Ninety Percent Rule.”

There are lots of ninety percent rules in fishing, and this is probably the most important one: When you make a cast, don’t fish it all the way back to the boat. If you watch the pros, what they’ve discovered are two things: He who makes the most casts over the course of the day usually catches the most fish; and because of that, they only fish about ten percent of their cast. They’ll cast to an object, maybe a stump or a tree or the edge of the weeds, they let the bait fall, they work it back about ten percent, and then they reel in really quickly.

Because what they’ve discovered is you catch ninety percent of your fish on the initial drop and the first percent of the retrieve.

If you do that, you’ll get in twice as many casts over the course of a day and you’ll catch twice as many fish.
