A Newmarket seafood retailer has been fined after admitting to selling a muskellunge that had been caught by an angler, a practice prohibited under Ontario regulations.

P&T Seafood Limited pleaded guilty to attempting to sell the fish, commonly known as a musky or muskie. The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources says muskellunge is managed as a sport fish in the province and cannot be commercially sold if it was caught through recreational angling.

The case began after the ministry received a report in April that a 30-inch muskellunge was being offered for sale at the business. A conservation officer investigated the complaint and determined the fish had been caught using angling methods.

According to the ministry, the investigation confirmed that the muskellunge was being sold by P&T Seafood Limited. The business was unable to provide documentation identifying the fish’s source.

The matter was heard in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Sept. 25, 2025. P&T Seafood Limited was fined $2,000 for the violation.
