Did You Know? – Record Walleye

Did you know the Ontario Walleye record holder was also the world record status holder for 39 years?

On May 26, 1943 near Fort Erie, Patrick Noon set his anchor on a sandbar called the Pickerel Hump.

Patrick cast out onto the sandbar with a hook, sinker and big worm, and hooked into a monster! Not much is documented about the actual fight of this fish but, once landed, the fish weighed in at 22 lb 4 oz. It was 36.5 inches long with an amazing 21 inch girth.

In 1982, a 22 lb 11 oz Walleye was caught in Arkansas that broke it. But Patrick’s Niagara River goldie remains the Ontario record Walleye to this day.

Just another reason to Go Fish in Ontario today.
