Hotspot – Dropshotting Early Season Smallies

Main Duck Island – N 43° 55.762’ W 76° 38.435’

Today’s Hotspot is a flat adjacent to Main Duck Island in Lake Ontario. The waypoint on your screen will put you right on it.

This is a pretty shallow area but remember, I was fishing here the first week in the Ontario Bass Season, so the fish were active and moving and the water was still relatively cold. A pair of polarized sunglasses are essential for this type of fishing as an angler will have plenty of sightings of moving fish. Many of these fish will take a well-presented bait. Dropshotting a Senko was the ticket for today, but definitely try other tactics like dragging a tube jig or a fast presentation like a spinnerbait or jerkbait.
