This month’s Hotspot is a flat covered with boulders off of an island on Shawnigan Lake. Boulders on long tapering flats are a Smallmouth magnet on any lake, and Shawnigan is no exception! Start out the day throwing a topwater bait, like Mighty Mo, for active fish and explosive strikes. As the day moves on, try Jerkbaits, Tubes or soft Stickbaits, like 4” Senkos. The key to catching the biggest fish in the area is to look for boulders with the aid of your polarized glasses, and then cast to them. Big Smallies love big boulders.
